[Q] "Battery used by cell radio" - Optimus One, P500, V General

Hi,
I would like to ask you guys how much percent of battery take Cell radio (Cell standby) on yours devices.
I think, that on my device is 61% really too much. Even when I almost don't use phone, and I'm on GSM strange signal area it takes about 50% of battery. It's quite a lot I think. I also tried switch down any data (also 2g) and this high value is still same.
Somebody said that it takes over 3 days when he have to charge again. If I'm lucky, I will keep almost to 2 days.
Please report also verzion of your FW, kernel and if you have custom ROM (Prime, AmberHome, ...), customized (t-mobile, vodafone, ....) or stock one. Thank you.

radio means wifi gps bluetooth and stuff like that not necesary gsm and stuff
mine is about 40%
cheers
le : stock and optimus one by vodafon i think

I don't think so. Wifi and GPS or bluetooth are reported separately. It's just GSM.
Anyway thanks for share
Maybe will be fine also let me know next most battery consumation "parts". (my is
Cell standby - 61%
Wi-fi - 22%
Android system -11%

Im running megatron on tmo..cell stand by is 19% while android system is highest 53%
Before cell standby was 27% on AH.

To the softbank users, with good battery..How'd you do it?

...how did you freaking do it? I have tried everything from the 1.47 to the 1.54 and still nothing. I am living in Japan using the Cingular/AT&T 8525 and am always ...constantly connected to the 3G( i always have either the "3g" or "H" symbol showing. Is there some other trick i can do to get my battery to last me through the day? I cant use my phone on the weekends cause of this issue...I will be away from a usb port for too long lol.
I hear there is GPRS network in Japan...is there a way you guys are connecting to that instead when the phone is idle to conserve battery life.
The thing I dont get is there HAS to be a way to fix this because my non PDA phone (issued to me by softbank) has great battery life and it is using the 3G network as well. It must be using some other kind of band or something to preserve its life. I hate having to switch to my crappy phone on the weekends because of battery life...please help me out guys. Thanks.
P.S. I owe this site so much ...as it is because of this site I am able to even use my phone here. THx in advance.
phone: cingular 8525
rom: black satin
radio: 1.54.07.00
(got mms, live ...and all the other stuff working thx to u all..just the battery is left)
not a softbank user, but you can try and disable 3g using a comm managers that has the 3g button.
like this one:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=320239
see post #24 for the one with a 3g button.
you other option would be to get an extended battery, see the threads in the accessories subforum
I was using the Black Satin ROM for awhile and my battery life was really short. Same thing with K's Roms. They both ran nice and fast, but the battery was almost dead before I left work.
i switched to the latest HTC WWE Rom. Battery life was instantly better. Lasts almost 2 days. I have a Softbank X01HT in the US and connect to AT&T 3G service. I get corporate email, so Active Sync is constantly running too.
hmm interesting suggestions I'll have to try them (yes the xtended battery one too) However, are you connected to the 3g network constantly..cause I am, and I'm almost certain that is what the culprit is. I am just baffled how other phones here manage last long here, I know I am doing something wrong in my connection settings. If i turn 3g off, phone can no longer recieve calls and basically stops being a phone. Dayum.

Batt. Life

My mini pro was only about 8 hours standby, that is up ontil last week when danish 3 updated something on their net, now the phone is easy 2-3 days standby...
What 3 changed i dont know, but they had a big crash for a whole day here in denmark at the same time, and i didnt change anything on the phone...
Send from my X10, still without 2.1 *&%#
As i said i dont know what the operators net update was all about, but at the same time that i got mutch more standby time, many other have repported a network speed increse...
The funny thing is that i am not even using 3's 3g netwotk, as i live in an area with only 2g, and that is roamed free from an other operator here in denmark "tdc"...
But something has changed thats for shure, and it is not on my phones setup...
This was only ment as info to all of you who also have really short standby time... it can be something at the op side...
Send from my X10, still without 2.1 *&%#

Which radio?

Could someone tell me which radio I should flash? I have a T-Mobile UK Atrix. I have unlocked the bootloader and rooted it. I'm running Mega Orange 1.1 deBlurred + 2.1 update.
Thanks
Wow this rom has awful battery life. Using cyanogenmod now, its way cooler and doesn't use so much battery and my phone seems to have stopped randomly turning off
I've just bought an Atrix myself and have installed CM7. Battery seems to be draining a little faster than I expected under the stock radio included in CM7 and signal strength seems to be lower than on my old Defy. On the Defy, I had full signal at work but I only seem to get 2 bars on the Atrix.
I'm with giffgaff and have just installed the Bell radio linked in the first post of the CM7 thread. Signal strength seems to be the same but I'll have to see if battery drain is less.
I think I may have been spoilt with my undervolted Defy which easily achieved over 2 days usage with light use. Hopefully, I can set up the Atrix to manage the same in due course!

You really need to look at db for signal. My torch 9810 shows full bars at my house and my atrix shows one but the db is within like 3 of one another. The torch just has really over inflated bars. Just something to be aware of.

Yeah, I realise that this could be a possibility. My thinking is that the number of bars on show may relate to similar signal levels as both phones are Motorola devices. That's probably too logical, however!
I think I'll probably check the db levels with my Defy when I find the time - either to set my mind at rest or leave me frustrated with the Atrix reception!
Edit: Nope, reception is definitely worse with the Atrix. I was hoping for better reception due to the larger size of the phone and (I assume) a better aerial.
Testing at my desk, the Atrix has a signal between -103 to -107 dBm with 3 or 4 ASU.
Using the same SIM in my Defy, signal is between -93 and 97 dBm with 8 to 10 ASU.
This isn't too much of a problem here at work or around most of my home town where giffgaff reception is good, but I'm a bit worried I'll be without a signal too often once I'm out of town.
After trying the ATT and Bell radios which both seem to have similar reception, perhaps I need to go looking for others. I wonder if the Orange France Gingerbread will be any better? I'm in the UK but perhaps a radio designed for Europe will be an improvement over one designed for the US.

Poor reception in India

I am using an AT&T Atrix 4G (rooted and has NottachTrix ROM with 37p radio) in India on BSNL AP circle and I have been getting really poor reception. It is so bad that I can only receive or make calls about 25% of the time. Many times, the phone shows no signal, but often it can't receive or make calls even when there are full bars on it at that moment. I tried using the other popular radio posted here, which is 36p and that showed no difference. Is there another radio that is better suited for this region and mobile operator?
I also have a severe battery life problem. With a brand new battery, it lasts about 24hs on standby, but even with a bit of usage it will not last full day. Sometimes it goes from around 60% to under 10% overnight (in 8hrs or so). I am using JuiceDefender for maximum battery life, and also verified with CPU Spy that the CPU is going into deep sleep as expected. Battery usage always shows "Phone Idle" and "Cell Standby" as the biggest battery consumers. Perhaps, the same problem that is causing bad reception is also causing the battery to go down quickly? I bought it as a used phone and used it on T-Mobile for a few days before leaving US. The battery life was terrible then too, but I thought it was because the battery was getting old, so purchased a new one before leaving.
Even though the reception on T-Mobile was also bad, it was nothing compared to what I am seeing here. Besides, T-Mobile didn't have a good coverage in that area anyway, so the reception was just like most of the other phones I tried there. My guess is that there is nothing wrong with the hardware itself, and the right modem firmware will fix both issues. Could someone who is already using this model in India, preferably with this mobile network comment?

Been using the Atrix for the past 6 months. Have used in AP Docomo, AP Vodafone and Chennai Aircel networks, Reception is top notch.
Everyone knows about the quality of BSNL signal and your problem lies there, IMHO.
Battery life is also awesome.
I used CM nightly and I do not overclock. I found faux kernel to be draining my battery so not using that too.

Interesting... I have heard people say bad things about BSNL signal, but I didn't think it would be this bad, so I was still under the impression that the issue is with the phone. May be I should borrow some dumb nokia phone from someone and confirm/rule out the issue with signal quality
I have't tried CM yet on this because I wanted the blur functionality for the dock, but I am not finding much use for the dock, so may be I will switch to CM one day, if only the support for biometric scanner is added. Thanks for the helpful reply!
Well, since the signal is always alternating, it increases the battery usage, i think
Well, my first concern is the reception. With full bars showing up, i am some times unable to make or receive calls. If his can still be BSNL issue, then I might just have to switch. When the phone is in this state, I have occasionally tried to see if restart would fix it, and though I can't confirm it 100%, I was almost always able to make a call immediately after the reboot. The reason I can't confirm that a reboot fixes he issue is because, there is obviously a few minutes of gap between that might have had external change as well.

Support for the fingerprint sensor is already present in Cyanogenmod 7. Give CM7 a try. The phone is smooth and rock solid.
And as ticiano_arraes suggested, poor reception or network quality has a direct impact on the battery, as the phone keeps trying to get hold of a stronger network.

Nice, I would love to give CM7 a try. Is I said earlier, I am less concerned about the battery life than the reception, as 3 out of the 4 times when I want to make a call, I don't get the signal immediately. Also, callers complain about not able to reach me. This is not my primarily line, so I am able to somehow manage so far, but if the problem is definitely on the network side, I will consider switching to a different service. In any case, I will try CM7 and report back.
What band are you using?2g or 3g?never set it to auto.Set it to GSM ONLY
I use atrix with bsnl 3g sim, cm9 Turk, radio is 100R don't have any signal issues or battery drain if I am using only calls I switch to 2g only otherwise 3g only mode use lot of data if I switch to auto or other radios I had lots of issues but with 100R no issues good signal as well as good data speed so pls try that using for nearly 9 months without issue
This is what I have right now:
- Select network - 2G Only
- Operator selection - Select automatically
I don't have a GSM Only option anywhere.
First try 100R radio I too call& battery issues then switched to this radio now don't have network issue when using 36& 37 radios most of the time my mobile was not reachable even when signal was showing do u use data? If not select 2g only using power Widgets u can easily switch 2g or 3g mode easily try 100R with nottachtrix it was good & if u r interested try Turk cm9 & 100R it gives better battery life than others comparatively
---------- Post added at 09:35 PM ---------- Previous post was at 09:31 PM ----------
Regarding bsnl signal I have six phones in my home using bsnl I m in a poor signal area using 100R I have better signal than e71,n900 I'm using so try it with ur current from so u can check difference

Thank you, will give that a shot now. I found the 100R download link from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=21525149&postcount=8
That post also mentions 30p, did you try that?
I got my mobile with .30 then switched to 36 got severe battery issues & switched to 37 it will show signal but mobile all be not reachable then switched to 100R never looked back try with ur current rom check difference.
I'm on .30P and JB epinter's CM10 rom and signal is top notch, no reception problems, battery life great, from INDIA on tata docomo

If you have the stock ROM it's probably that the main problem is the radio that you are using right now. The radios control the way the antenna communicates and all that stuff. So if you are having bad reception, the antena is searching constantly and making more effort to keep you alive on the mobile network.
Try flashing a new radio, it's too easy. Just find in the forum a radio for your region( but it could be from anywhere, for example i'm in Finland right now but i use the normal att{usa}).
I read that you are using just 2G, that's great for improving battery life, but don't expect a huge amount. I always run in 2G and in HSPA+ when i really need the gps, fast info, etc, I'm always syncing with FB, Twitter, Instagram, listening to music and barely it last a day withe the extended battery(bh6x).
Hope this works for you
btw, ,flashing a new radio doesn't delete the data of your rom, it's so easy
I have now observed the signal quality over 24hrs with the 100R firmware and I think there is marked improvement in quality. There were times when I had no signal and I couldn't make calls, but at least I didn't have a situation when there were bars showing and yet the call didn't go through. Obviously, I need more time to see if what I am seeing is genuine.
On the other hand, I don't think the battery life increased significantly. With very light usage, it went down from 100% to 22% in about 23hrs and 70% of that is in Phone idle. I have attached 3 snapshots taken at different times of the battery usage to show what I mean. May be it is just the stock kernel not fully optimized, so I will give CM7 a try.
I installed cwm touch recovery 5.8.1.8 and wondering if the backup created by this recovery is complete enough for the stock rom so that I can switch back to it if CM7 doesn't work out.

Does this ROM also support biometric scanner? What would be the biggest reason not to use it and go with CM7 instead? Stability?

No, this ROM doesn't support biometric scanner and the stock Camcoder cannot record videos due to Nvidia Driver Issues (3rd party video recording apps work), apart from that sometimes random reboot, rest everything works like WiFi Hotspot, GPS is great, and instead of staying on GB I'd like to stay on JB with these few quirks...

Signal problem X829?

Hello guys! I have Le Max 2 (x829) for a monthz and seems like my phone have a problem with 4G signal ( im from Bulgaria). My phone reach only 3-3.5 hours SoT, with 1-2 hours music. I never stop my internet (4G) and location, bluetooth and things like that are always off. I tried with different ROMs - Small Eui by Aurel, with 5.9 20s... And no change in SoT! How can I fix that? With flash modem?

Do you have GSM transmitters in your area? It is possible that the phone does not capture coverage and increases the power to keep this coverage. The battery may also be defective. How long has this problem been with you?

I think it's not from the battery.. Look the time without signal in the photos... Above than 70%. So I'm with x829, can I flash just the modem? I live in 2 citys, one of them its Sofia (capital of Bulgaria) and here should be the best signal in Bulgaria... With my Xiaomi Redmi Note 2 I haven't this problem before. Can you prefer me some rome? I need B3 frequency for 4G signal. And thank you for the fast answer
Do you have TWRP? If you have this, you can try other ROM for example Lineage Mod and Test whether the problem has disappeared or is still appearing. You should check on original ROM too. Also, there may be a problem with antennas.
