Hi peeps... i've tried a bunch of roms on this site and i love the level of personalization that each brings to the table.. my question is, what is the best combination of 2.2 rom, kernal, and modem for responsive speed and decent battery life.. a part of me wants to odin to a stock rom and never have a problem... but that would get pretty boring!! thanks for your help in advance..
Either:
Eugene Ginger Clone + voodoo JL4
OR
Nero V2 + voodoo JL4 (this is more like what you are used to)
EVERYONE will give you their own biased answer, so here's mine
This combination is super fast as well as pretty good battery life + some 2.3 goodness:
Sombionix's Nero V2
JL5 Modem
Voodooo kernel built into Nero v2
Lightning fast plus smooth and nice life.
thanks for all of your advice!! i will flash Sombionix's Nero V2 today with the jl5 modem and see how that works for me... i'm currently running eugenes ginger clone r2 with oclf but it lags a bit and i really miss the power controls on the taskbar.. very handy.. thanks again for all of your responses

I found (at least on my phone) that Nero V2 + Ryan's OCLF 2.0 was leaps and bounds snappier and much higher Quadrant-wise. Remember, scores alone won't always translate into a more snappy feeling experience.

either of these, they both work best for me and eugene's ginger clone is the one i'm using right now and doesn't seem like i'll flash another ROM after this

Should i flash the STOCK JK6 Kernel from ROM MANAGER?
I've heard a jk6 makes your battery last more...
I'm also wondering what a kernel actually is, and what it does?
can someone guide me? i'm new to this whole KERNEL thing.
Also i do have voodoo installed.
The kernal is the modem for your phone. It basically comes down to which one you like best. I am running Nero V3 with the the JL4 and the battery life has been good. Some say the best for battery life is JK6 though, although the signal strength will propbably be a little lower than the newer ones. You can flash these through clockwork, just download it and flash it just like you did the rom. I ran both JL1 and JK6 with Axura and both worked well for me.
ALSO, I KNOW YOU HAVE TO DISABLE VOODOO TO FLASH A ROM SO TO BE SAFE I WOULD DO THAT BEFORE FLASHING THE MODEM TOO. I don't use voodoo, so can't say for sure if you would have to disable just to flash te kernal, but it would be a good idea to disable just in case.

Download destroyer of worlds aka DoW
I made mine go to 1.2 with, that
Also u need setcpu app
xriderx66 what rom are currently on vibrant 9?? and DOW is not on the market....
DOW is on Team Whiskys site in donator section last I checked. It's not an app it's a kernel.
is that kernel compatible with eugene373 vibrant9?? and do u install kernels just like roms?? with rom clockwork?? btw i am on eclair not froyo.... i need to know how i can install kernels if any1 can link me to a website or video on how to? thank you =D
btw im very thankful for all the info so far u guys are the best! i know noobs can get annoying at times but werent we all noobs at one point? haha thanks!
Kernals install through clockwork by choosing install file from SD and scrolling to the kernal.
Silly question, why flash a rom if it's still 2.1?
is 2.2 froyo suppost to be better?? i don't know myself because i am a noob =D
i am about to odin my phone right now lol.... anyways what's a great 2.2 rom out right now i heared axura is quite good... i also heared with 2.2 froyo GPS don't work =(

I currently have Nero 3 and Axura 2.2VE and they're both great Roms. I'm going to stay with Axura for now because I find myself flashing every other day and that needs to stop lol.
2.2 should have no negative effect on your GPS and it's better optimised for our hardware making everything just faster. It also has other abilities like flash support etc.
If you want to run DOW from Team Whiskey then you should go with Nero 3 as they will be compatible.
My question now is why the desire to OC the phone to 1.2?
tw core kernel should work with any 2.1 rom. i got decent battery life and performance with core.
as for 2.2 (which if you are flashing, i highly recommend going to a 2.2 rom), dow kills battery. i ran dow14bln with different nero versions (b2 and 3, and v1), and it would kill my battery in about 6 hours without even using the phone... but the performance was amazing.
just keep in mind that if you run a 2.1 rom you HAVE to use a 2.1 kernel, similarly 2.2 rom means you need a 2.2 kernel. and i'd get a rom/kernel combo working before thinking about adding in the potential headaches of a lagfix.
personally, i think nero v3 with the voodoo kernel is pretty good. not as fast as the 1.4ghz oc, but a good performance/battery life balance.
core can be found here: http://teamwhiskey.com/download.html
nero and dow can be found here: http://board.teamwhiskey.com/
ty u guys are awesome!! =D

You don't necessarily need to disable voodoo if you go from a ROM with Voodoo 5.x enabled kernel to another ROM that utilizes Voodoo infused kernel. I've done it jumping from nero beta v3 with supercurio's jl4 kernel to nerov2+voodoo jl4 to nerov3+voodoo jl5. However, it is recommended to ODIN back to stock before jumping from ROM to ROM. It is also suggested to disable Voodoo just in case, I am just playing danger ranger

You can do that as well
EDIT: just remember to boot into CWR via the power menu and not from the ROM Manager
installed fine! its freaking awesome. lighting fast and no lag!
I am wanting to know if you can flash any froyo kernels on atriac v1 and also modems. Thanks for all the help to in advance. Also the Ka7 kernel is no good in my area any suggestions
You will be fine I was using overstock 1.5 til a few minutes ago now I'm using tiger's blood v2. As far as a modem you may want to try Kb1 a lot of people seem to have good things to say about that one but it all depends on where your at.
Any Vibrant froyo 2.2 kernel/modem will work with our 2.2.1 builds.
Yes, care has been taken to ensure maximum compatibility between our 2.2.1 releases and available vibrant kernels. Be sure to read the kernels install instructions prior to flashing too.

I'm gonna make the transition from Froyo (Trigger) to Gingerbread. I've been enjoying the stability of Trigger and this has prevented me from going 2.3.4 because last time I check it was still "Experimental"
Now I look and it seems as if a lot of gingers are stable.
Is there one you guys can recommend for me. I'm used to using CWM to flash roms and doing the 3 cache clears.
Which do you recommend I try if any. Should I stick with froyo 2.2 or 2.2.1 or give a gingerrom a try?
I heard revolution rom RC1 is really stable and i'm thinking of upgrading to that

Been running Asgard V3, now V3.1. No issues, fast, GPS works (for me), Like it a lot. Asgard V2 was buggy but V3 is sweet.
Recomend that if you are going to gingerbread become friendly with Odin.
With the exception of CM7/Miui it is much better to be using gingerbread bootloaders with a gingerbread rom and you need Odin to flash them.
Thanks guys, I ended up getting Revolution for the AOSP look, so far so good! Loving it, the 15min break in period never lasted so long haha.
I appreciate the advice though, it helped me make a decision
