I Need to wipe EVERYTHING from my phone and start fresh. I have been a flashoholic and now I am seeing weird things happening with my phone. I have flashed system, kernel and PIT with Odin back to original 2.2 release, wiped everything off my SD card, but I am still seeing weird things happen. For instance, wallpaper that was on my SD card randomly shows up on my phone, and it will change to other wallpapers randomly. My contacts from facebook, keep showing up, even after I delete them. I am getting random force closes on Facebook, launcher pro, BLN and titanium backup. I can delete these programs, reinstall them and they seem to work, until I reboot the phone.
So how do i completely wipe ALL from my phone, and start over so I don't see these things happening?
Could it be something to do with voodoo/non voodoo? I think I odin'd back to stock without converting voodoo back, but can't put a finger on it, if that was the cause.
I was looking to try http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=804784 and was wondering if that may help.
Thanks in advance for any advice.
anyone have any ideas? I'm dying here.

That was the first thing I tried, but I am still having issues. The random wallpaper is really confusing to me. It's like there is still some data somewhere that I can't seem to wipe. Could it have anything to do with me doing the above from voodoo and not disabling lag fix?
I used ODIN to go back to DI01, did ota to EA28, then did the ota to ED01. Shut off phone, pulled battery, ODIN cwm-recovery-all.tar, booted phone straight to recovery, flashed Adrynalyne's superuser package (includes busybox), then flashed the EC10 kernel. Phone is working great.

Couldn't hurt just to wipe n rep partition/format (make sure to backup sd card) Odin also has an option to repartition or you can do so in recovery

go here and follow the walk through, it is the only way i know of to get your phone to stop being all wonky. sorry but you have to repartition and start over.

This may be a silly question, but when you are loading a ROM, are you reinstalling apps from Titanium, or from the market?
When the ROM is reinstalled ull restore the Apps from titanium pro or u can also re download them like normal

i just backed up my apps myself (switching to evil fascinate) and astro file manager did it perfectly

Heimdall back to D101 stock with pit file and repartition. Then do the same with Odin and D101. Then, either odin again to 2.2 or update OTA.

I have done this with odin, but haven't tried Hiemdal. Is it different? I will certainly try if it is.
Just pure guessing... on the phone, does
Settings --> Privacy --> Back up my data
or
Settings --> Privacy --> Automatic restore
have anything to do with this?
Will
Settings --> Privacy --> Factory data reset
help?
I have always used ROM Manager to do everything, but seeing that might not be the best way to do things..I have been having some other problems with restoring, and talked about it on another forum, but can't post the link here yet.
So, my nightlys said it is time to upgrade, so I am going to completely back everything up with TB, and fire it all up to dropbox. All of my system settings are 100% the way I want them... I also clicked the beta migration option in the preferences, hoping that would help me.
Step 1 - Backup all user apps + system Data
Step 2 - Sync to Dropbox
Step 3 - Boot into Clockwork Mod Recovery, and do everything manually, not through ROM Manager
Step 4 - Clear cache and Dalvik
Step 5 - Run zip from SD Card
This time, it seemed like everything went as planned. When I started the phone back up, all the apps were in the same spot, and wallpaper was the same. Although, the first time, when the screen timed out, I couldn't turn it back on. Pulled the battery, and all is working fine now.
Step 6- went into TB and did a batch restore of all apps and data, but only clicked the green items. From reading somewhere else, it is only wise to do the green items, not the red, so that is what I did. Then reboot for all to take effect.
This is where I am confused. None of my data is restored. For example, I use K-9 Mail, and the settings aren't restored by the batch. But, if I go to that app, and hit the restore data, then it restores it fine. So, for me to do all my apps, the batch function isn't working, I have to go through and do 15-20 apps manually.
So, what am I doing wrong here? Why isn't the batch operation working properly for me?
Edit - Something else I noticed that didn't restore properly was any of my ring tones. Not a huge deal, but I thought might be worth mentioning in this dilemma.
So I assume you are on CM7 as you refer to nightlies.
You say that you wipe cache/dalvick cache and install. Then when you reboot all your apps are in the right place?
Then why on earth would you want restore your apps on top of the existing apps with TB? Maybe that is causing the problem. AFAIK upgrading with a nightly shouldn't touch your installed apps.
Did you check the app settings before restoring with TB?
As for the ringtones, I always had that problem when using CM7, just got used to fixing them after installing each nightly.
Hope this helps.
What version of TB are you using? I was having a similar problem doing restores on v3.9.0.1 and was having problems doing batch recovery with my SGS2. The status bar would come up but wouldn't successfully finish. I then upgraded to 4.0.0.0 and everything seems to work.. might give that a try if you're using an older version.

Yes, sorry, I am running CM7, but using the nighties.
As far as the apps, that's why I think I am doing something wrong. Last time was the first time everything was there, every other update, it was like I was starting off with a new phone. No app, no data, nothing. A brand new fresh start.
I will try it again in a few minutes and hope for the best..
Thanks for helping out with this one..

I am currently using the Pro, 4.0.2. It just seems that I have to refresh all the data for each app by themselves, but all at once won't work.
Upgrading my nightly now, so keeping my fingers crossed that it will work.
Hello Community,!
I have been using CM since the nighties unitl the early 30's before Kernel got hacked I have stopped using CM around that time and switch back to near stock rom (TSM Resurrection) due to force close on every single applications. Now that CM is official, I hope the problem is gone but it is still there. I can use the phone for couple hours and then force close everywhere.
I have tried the following with that I can find on the forums:
1. Fix Permissions.
2. Fix Permissions and then reflashing CM.
3. Wipe data and reflashing.
4. Went back to stock (with atlas and all that) and then back to CM.
5. Rebooting/pulling battery out does not fix it either.
I read that it would be running out of memory causing it, but closing apps did not help.
Could it be rogue app(s) causing it or something entirely different?
Thank You!

just went thru this the other night with another member...try going back to dl09 and reformat your sd card. worked for him
I have not tried in addition to reformatting my sd card whild doing the whole DL09 restoring. I will give that a go.
It would probably also be a good idea to redownload the apps fresh from the the market instead restoring them from titanium backup?

with tibu just make sure to restore app only w/ out data. Should be no different than redownloading the app from market.
Your solution seems to work so far, I did however redownload fresh copies of apps from the market and just restore the data from titanium backup just incase any full restore are corrupted. I do get random phantom keys from time to time.

Hi all,
I have searched in the checkrom thread and here but failed to find anything to solve my problem.
i did a wipe before flashing to checkrom 2.0. after it finished installing. i loaded up kitchenpro n was prompted to update it. thereafter i selected restore user data & ticked the sms. but there wasnt anything restored. i checked my filesystem n the backup files were present.
so whats wrong?
Ok its now working. a possible reason is perhaps my phone now doesn't have a phone signal after I installed a font pack, circular battery theme & Swype 3.0 from kitchenpro. my Sim card is now not detected, so a new problem is created...going to check whats wrong.
I just restarted my phone and the signal came back. Not sure why it wasn't there the first time it rebooted after installing the add-ons. Weird but its working.
So yes there have been other threads recommending cleaning/tightening battery connectors, using monitoring programs to assess and alert on things like high temp and process cpu spikes etc... a lot of the time the issues raised have been to with someone only recently acquiring their SGS2, or after having "upgraded" their ROM.
Mine seems not to fit any of those scenarios.
A week ago, I found the phone off, so I switched it on and it bootlooped. Nothing new had installed prior, although the was an update to the ZD Box app which I read had problems, but I'd already uninstalled that. So, I rebooted the phone and it seemed to work fine. But no...
At random times whether the phone has been in my pocket or sitting on the desk, I will find the screen is black and none of the hardware buttons do anything. I have to hold the power button for quite some time before I see the Samsung logo and the phone boots up.
It happens several times a day. Battery/CPU monitoring/stats/alert apps show nothing out of the ordinary. I've uninstalled several recentish apps just in case, and no fix. Cleared all caches, fixed permissions, changed modems, no fix.
I'm now in the process of wiping data and flashing a different ROM (a newer version of illusion-xt to the one I've been using... excellent ROM btw), and I'll see if that solves anything.
What's weird is that I've had this phone for nearly a year and it's only just started happening now.
I'm wondering whether this sort of issue has become common with the SGS2 recently. Anyone else experiencing this, and is there are solution for it?
See how you go with the new rom.
If it's still happening, go back & do a completely clean install of stock; format cache, data, system, & internal sd card then flash stock rom in Odin (don't install any apps at all) & run that for a few days. If it's still happening on a relatively 'clean' stock phone, that probably indicates a hardware issue. Could be something simple like the battery, could be the USB/charging circuitry problem we see on here a bit or some other hardware problem.
See how you go with it & post back here.

Followed your recommended steps with the newer ROM. Seemed to be good for a day. I then found my phone off again while it was sitting next to me. I had just installed an app (from "untrusted" sources) just prior to this. So I uninstalled that. Found my phone off again a few minutes ago. This time the phone was hot and about 20% of the battery had drained.
Think I need to do another wipe of everything (except external SD) in case that app was the culprit?
[got a I9100]
if i were you i do this....
save my video/mp3.. stuff
remove microsd
remove sim
using cwm format system, data cache, dalvik, sdcard/emmc (depends on your cwm)
using odin flash a GB rom (i usually go with LA2 / JPLPC [ICS])
after first boot and few minutes dial *2767*3855#
next boot ill setup google account but will not do auto restore / untick auto restore.
shutdown remove battery put the simcard and see how it goes for a day or 2
It's switched off three more times today. The last time it happened the app "Battery Monitor Widget" alerted a "Voltage out of range" warning.
So far nothing's ever gone wrong while the phone is charging.
I may try formatting as has been suggested, but I think I'll try using a new battery first.
Please forgive my daftness as it seems I've misunderstood the instructions here.
Upon booting into CWM Recovery (I have v5.0.2.7) and navigating to "Mounts and Storage" I've discovered what you both mean by "format" in your instructions.
Would this mean following the Gingerbread section of the guide at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1457458 is what I need to do to get up and running, and then continue with the remaining instructions in this thread?

I have had this issue with certain ROMs in the past where I would get a black screen and no response from the hardware buttons. I found that on installing the ROM everything worked fine. Then I would go ahead and restore my apps, still everything was fine.... but once I configured Exchange sync I would run into the issue. My only option was to go back to a ROM that I knew worked on my device correctly.
In reply to your question above, If you have a ROM downloaded that you can flash in CWM then so long as it is stored on your SDCard you can format the system, data, internal SD and wipe cache, delvik cache from CWM. In doing this I would recommend making sure you know exactly what "internal SD" CWM is talking about. To be sure you could remove your SD card. I made the mistake of formatting the wrong card once and spent the next day recovering the data from it.
If you have the same issue with a new ROM then i'd recommend going back to a stock ROM using the link you posted.
Hope this helps.
I took my sdcard and sim out and rebooted just so I could see what would show up in the file manager. It would seem like there are no apps or mp3's or pics or anything "additional" available.
Strange as I don't recall ever using app to SD, and I could've sworn I saved at least a few MP3s and pics to the phone.
Maybe I'm just not looking in the right place. Where would I normally find my app folders without the sdcard being present?
Ahh... so once you put the sim in (but still without sdcard) apps folders show up in "/sdcard"
hmm... does this sound correct?
why are you making things difficult?
put your sdcard back, open file browser goto sdcard dcim
you will find pics and videos there if they are saved on your phone storage. copy them to micro sdcard.
simple
if you are on aosp rom than the structure is little different
PS: doesn't matter your sim is in or out.
Stock ROM
/sdcard
/sdcard/external_sd
AOSP ROM
/sdcard
/emmc
As instructed I formatted partitions, installed latest official ICS ROM (for Australia) from sammobile.com using ODIN. Didn't install any apps. Didn't sync. I still have the "black-screen-freeze" at least once a day for several days. Today it's done it 5 times already. Sometimes I find the phone is hot, sometimes not, and a couple of times I've found the battery drained as well.
I can't seem to find a standard pattern that's reproducible.
What now?
