[Q] security - Droid Eris Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

whats the best way to secure an eris? its normally in my pocket but there are times when i have left it on my desk at work and in my position i get emails and messages that i would not want other co-workers to "accidentally" see.

There is a screen lock option... on non Rooted, you enter a pattern.. I'm not sure about all rooted, but mine gives me a choice of pattern, pin or password.
It's under the main settings menu ... i believe the option is security.

[Q] WidgetLocker not replacing default lockscreen

I like using WidgetLocker and it's been working generally well until I realized it does not replace the default lockscreen. After my 3 minute screen timeout for my Droid 2 to lock up, I have to unlock using WidgetLocker and then the default lockscreen. Is there a way so that I do not see the default lockscreen itself? BTW, I am using a pattern lock.
I use an app called "no lock" and it works really well.
I'm the dev of WidgetLocker.
The issue you are experiencing is because the standard swipe unlock is tied to the pattern (and pin and password) security on Motorola phones. I haven't yet found a way around this. There's two methods I may use to solve this (possibly both options)
1) Implement security into WidgetLocker.
2) Use root to bypass the intermediate swipe unlock
The advantage of using the system's security is that it's for sure protected at phone boot, it's harder for a third-party-app to guarantee that. The advantage of WidgetLocker's own security is that it wouldn't require root (Then again maybe it would for at-boot protection) and would allow more options.
I don't know when I will have a solution to this, I just know it will NOT be in the next update. If you just purchased and this issue is causing you to not use WidgetLocker email me ([email protected]) with your order number (and mention this thread) and I can cancel/refund the order.
No Lock will disable your security. I don't remember offhand if LockBot Pro just completely bypasses the security or has the same issue, but it doesn't solve the problem.
Thread moved to General.
Alright, thanks guys for the good info. I'll continue to use WidgetLocker just because I like it that much, and I hope a solution can be found some time in the future. Thanks!
So, any updates? I'm now unlock homescreen 3 times ). Widgetlocker+Standart_SlideLocker+Pattern. Temporary removed widgetlocker.

i know it's an old thread and problem, but i thought i'd just throw this idea out there...
my current security solution for Motorola phones (Droid X and Bionic) is to enable PIN security. this means that i do not have to depend on a third party app to lock my phone down at boot (which is difficult as you point out).
while using my phone at home, i temporarily disable the PIN security using Switchpro widget's "Auto ScreenLock" toggle (i think No Lock work too). when my phone is rebooted, the Motorola security is automatically active again, and i have to select Switchpro widget again to temporarily disable the PIN security if i choose, or i can leave it enabled if i'm at work or someplace else where the likelihood of losing my phone is increased.
unfortunately this means i can't really use WidgetLocker because whenever i' have PIN security enabled, i have to deal with the extra swipe of the stock lock screen. yes, the new feature for auto-swiping works and is cool, but it's a bit slow and awkward.
Possible solution: if WidgetLocker included a separate post-boot security PIN feature that was reasonably secure while the phone is on (and without disabling the stock security PIN), then i would be in heaven. this would allow me to leave system security PIN in place (protecting me during boot), i would have to swipe and enter my PIN twice the first time i enter my phone after boot (once for system PIN, once for WidgetLocker), then i could disable the system PIN via Switchpro widget (or No Lock) and only have the WidgetLocker PIN on subsequent attempts to unlock my phone until the next reboot. i used exactly this process on my Droid X with LockBot Pro, but LockBot Pro is not compatible with the Bionic.
is this description even remotely clear? i realize that it might be a confusing sequence for some folks, but it would totally address the issue of security during boot and post-boot while also being able to use this excellent app on Motorola phones.
just a thought...

Hi,
I got the same problem as the threadstarter. Any progesses made? Teslacoil hompage says:
Can I use WidgetLocker with a security lockscreen?
Yes, but it depends on your configuration. Some devices force their own slider, before the security slider. This means WidgetLocker, then system slider, then system security. Generally Samsung and HTC devices don't have this issue, and other devices don't have this issue when using Pattern security rather than PIN or Password. WidgetLocker includes a work around for root users to "auto-swipe" the system slider.

On my Galaxy S2 this workaraound does not auto-slide the systemslider... What's wrong with it?
Have a Atrix 2 here and as PhilDX said, it is kinda slow and awkward. When I have the pattern security active and swipe the Widgetlocker lock, it kinda "flashes" my homescreen then goes to the pattern. Also, even though I have autoswipe enabled, but sometimes the original lockscreen pops up.
Great program though, LOVE that I can put widgets on the lockscreen^^
Hello, My phone is SGS2-GTI9100G model.
Can I ask any method to prevent exit active applications from the task manager?
I have a similar problem

My (unrooted) Samsung Stratosphere's Default lockscreen keeps Activating and overriding WidgetLocker. WidgetLocker doesn't even show up or if it does it pops up after I've already unlocked the phone. I have tried setting WL homehelper as home but default still replaces it, then widgetlocker locks the screen at random while I'm in the middle of something. I also tried no lock which disabled all lockscreens temporarily before stock kicked in and locked the phone. is there a way to fix this without root?

[Q] Disable Swipe lock when Pattern lock is enabled?

I hope I am not double posting somewhere, but I recently enabled the pattern lock but it seems as though the swipe lock is still activated. I can't seem to find an option to turn it off. It is rather annoying to have to unlock the phone twice. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Is your phone stock? Mine is stock and when I went from swipe to pattern, it automatically canceled the finger swipe option. My only guess would be to try to turn all security locks off, then just enable the one you want.
Go back to security settings, it will ask you to swipe or enter your code, after you do that you should be at the settings screen and the top option is "none". That should turn all the security locks off for you.

Thank you for the response. A few things. The phone is stock. When I go from disabling the "security lock" to enabling it, the swipe lock is still there.
Any more help or things to try would be greatly appreciated.
I don't know then. If rebooting doesn't fix it, the phone might need the factory reset which I don't know exactly how to do. You can do a search for it. I would probably take it back to att and get an exchange since your still in the first 30 days and get a new one.

I don't think he means the finger print swipe lock. If I have the pattern lock on my atrix, after I unlock it, I still have the standard swipe right to unlock the phone.
Edit: sorry, happens the other way. Swipe right, then goes to pattern unlock.

Correct, when i enable the pattern lock, i still have to use the swipe lock to unlock then phone and then unlock the pattern lock to use to phone. This is rather quite annoying.
Ahh thanks for clearing that. Totally misunderstood that, yeah mine works as you guys described. Hopefully they will change that with a patch.

[Q] Lockscreen first before PIN code screen?

Never really notice this until now.
Basically once i set a PIN code, everytime i wake up the phone it immediately goes into this PIN code screen instead of the lockscreen where you swipe right to unlock then lets you enter the PIN code.
Is this how it's suppose to work for the SGS2?
Apologies if this has been asked before.
That's a bug, but its there. No worries.

go into settings-location and security.there you will see "screen unlock settings".Choose whatever option you want but if you only want the swype screen option to unlock then select "none".
Ahhh ok ... hopefully it can be fixed soon by Samsung or Google!
I miss my lockscreen with the date and time info without unlocking but yet able to pin protect my phone, coming from dell streak.
Thanks all for the replies!

Add Widgets to standard lock screen? WL "double swipe to unolock".

I came looking for porn, didnt find it, but figured while I was here I could ask a question:
Let me first say I sync my phone to my works Exchange and they force some security settings on my phone, like the pincode to unlock the phone. On my Desire HD and GalaxyII I had WidgetLocker installed so I could control Spotify without unlocking the phone and typing the pin.
On the Razr it kinda looks like the standard lock screen would let me add widgets to it, but I cant figure out how so i started using WidgetLocker on this as well.
However, when I am in the widget locker screen and "slide to unlock" it just takes me to the standard "lock screen" and i must slide again and enter a pin code.
I assume WL have disabled the lock screen on the Desire and Galaxy, but cant on this?
Any ideas?
All i want is to be able to control Spotify without typing the pin and unlocking the phone, so if you have any other suggestion on how to get this done I would love you long time for it
Download the free app "no lock". It should take care of your issue. I use WL on my RAZR and have the No Lock app set to disable the stock lock screen. Works great.

[Q] Change the Clock On the Lock Screen?

As odd as it sounds, are you able to change the clock on the lock screen or change the "effects" for the swipe to unlock?
I could do so before the AT&T upgrade, but I can't now (although, the upgrade may not be the cause). The selection in the Lock Screen Settings is gone and the clock widget no longer shows up in the widget list.

Well... On my phone, it used to be there. I actually ran into this issue, yesterday afternoon. I did a factory reset to see if it would fix the issue. At that point "Select Screen Lock" appeared under the Lock Screen selection in Display (which can also be reached via the Lock Screen Settings when you push the Settings button while on a home screen.
This isn't a matter of me not knowing how to make the change (I've already done so twice: 1) with my original phone and 2) with this phone, after replacing the original for the phone jack issue). The setting selection is no longer there (and the clock widget, no longer appears in my widget list and it was there before the AT&T SW update). FWIW.... the effects settings for the lock screen are also gone. This is truly bizarre.
Looks like you need to get the apk from someone and adb push it to /system/app and then reboot.

I'm probably demonstrating my ignorance, but if I was able to procure the apk and use adb to push it, what prevents it from disappearing again?

It probably was only deleted by the update. Sometimes that happens. Some samsung updates on my phone deleted the browser and gapps. As long as you push the apk, I don't see why it would disappear. Although, have you checked other places in settings? Perhaps LG reorganized.

I too don't see why it would disappear. Which has me completely baffled. I've checked every where, but I seriously doubt that it's a "reorganization" of the settings menus. The menus were exactly as laid out in the LG manual, youtube videos and as described by people who have responded to this thread (and the other one in the LGOG unbranded thread), when I first started the phone and after each factory reset. Then within an hour or two, they were no longer in the Lockscreen menu.

Even if the apk was deleted, the references to it would still be in settings.apk, so the menu option would be there, but clicking it would lead to a force close.

I gave up and returned the phone for a new one. Hopefully, they won't just turn it around and give it to someone else as a replacement, but will completely reinstall the OS and test it.
Follow up question for one of you extra smart dev types....
New phone has the same issue (several of the lock screen settings are gone). In addition to installing apps from Google Play Store, I also install apps that allow me to get my work emails and calendar (as well as work IM). The apps are: Junos Pulse (security/anti-virus), Lotus Traveler (for email and calendar) and Lotus Sametime. Lotus Traveler requires that I use a password lock. If someone enters an incorrect password, 10 consecutive times, it automatically starts factory reset, to wipe the storage.
I noticed that the lock screen menu options disappeared after I installed and activated the 3 apps listed above. Is it possible that Traveler is deleting the lock screen options menus as part of it's security settings?

Uninstall the apps and see... you can answer that question..... because I have 2 of these phones and both phone still have the options.

I noticed the same thing. For me, it was my MS Exchange account. It requires a PIN secured lock. Once activated, the clock and shortcut options disappeared in Settings. I removed the MES account and they reappeared. So, I set to my liking, then set up/activated the Exchange account afterwards.

I can't uninstall the app. From what I can tell, the only way to do so, is to do a factory reset. I haven't rooted the device. I'm certain that I could do the uninstall if I were to root the phone. At this point, it's not worth doing so (I'm considering returning it for a refund and get an N4).

Thanks for the confirmation, that someone else is experiencing this issue (and I'm not crazy).
I have noticed on mine that those lock screen settings (clock& shortcuts and screen effect) only show up if it set to "Swipe to unlock". If you set it to pattern or pin, those options disappear, however what you selected before stays in effect.
If you switch it back to "swipe to unlock", those settings will reappear and you can change them again, and then switch back to pattern or pin.
I don't know if it's by design, but I hope not.

Wow, that's very interesting. I seriously doubt that swipe to unlock vs PIN or Password unlock is supposed to result in menu items disappearing.
Update: I've figured out the method to uninstall the lotus email apps (you have to deactivate it as device manager 1st, if anyone is interested). After doing so, I can confirm that the lock screen settings that disappeared have in fact reappeared.
My issue is different, just got the phone and the 4 app shortcuts were on the lock screen. I changed the clock and now they have disappeared from the lock screen. I changed it back to the default clock and the quick apps are still missing. How do I get those back I'd like to quickly get into camera and browser from my lock screen.
