Hi guys,
I recently lost my Shure SE420's and have upgraded to a set of Ultimate Ears Triple Fi 10 Vi IEM's. I bought the 'Vi' version as it has a built in mic for handsfree and a button to answer/hang up. The box said for iphone and blackberry compatible but I assumed the x10 would have no worries as its the same 3.5mm jack.
Turns out I cannot use them as the button appears to be inverted for the x10 / Android, ie its permanently in 'hang up' position. Tring to make a call immedialty displays 'call ended', but if I hold the button down it allows me to call out and releasing it hangs up.
Listening to music is terrible, it sounds robotic and keeps chopping the sound, but when the button is pressed it works fine.
Tested the headphones on my old HTC Touch HD (wm6.5) and a friends iphone and they work perfectly so appears to be an android / x10 issue. The only work around to listen to music is using a 3.5mm extender which doesnt use the mic (one less connection on the jack)
Is there something ive missed in the settings or does anyone know a workaround? Its driving me nuts!
Thanks
its because the wires dont go to the same conections in the x10 compared to the iphone, if you know what i mean. there is no setting because they are hard wired. if you are good with that sort of thing you could make an adapter, afaik that would work but its a lot of hassle.
Does anybody have a headphone with build in mic that actually works on the X10?
yea my stock sony headset that came with the x10 have built in mic and they work fine....

Really? What model headphones are those? The ones I got with my X10 came with an extension remote/microphone that you can use with any headphones, but the extension makes the cables too long so I'm looking for heaphones with the microphone build in.
I tested my Ultimate Ears Triple Fi 10 Vi on an EVO before I bought mine and they worked great. They also worked until around the time of the latest OTA update. Now they don't control music or answer phone calls. I highly doubt the headphones broke but I ordered a replacement cable just in case so hopefully that's it but I suspect they broke something with the update.
Hi! I was wondering of an app that can live monitor my voice on my omnia, in other words I want to hear my voice on the headset so I can connect my phone with an amplified loudspeaker and hear my voice live (without delays) in the loudspeaker. Is that possible? That wold be cool, turn your phone into a speaker system. Please if you can do a reserach and give me an answer, thank you!
mic in headphone jack?
So, does the X10 have the 4 connector-type of headphone jack? Mono headphone jacks have only two conductor areas separated by an insulator; stereo headphone jacks have a third zone; and there are some devices that use a fourth zone adding a presumably mono mic to the mix.
I've been thinking Bluetooth is the only way to add a mic to the X10.
I have one of these mic/headphone combos for my ipod (for skype) and it does the same thing with my X10. I found that if I plugged it in the X10, then pulled it out by about 2-3mm, it worked fine for audio and microphone, but the button would be inactive. Best workaround I can think of.
the original headphone with mic is the best, don`t need to change it
wow so now my skullcandy's w/mic decide to work on pandora radio..
I found this adapter, which might be a fix for the hard-wiring. It's called "FiiO LU1 smart adaptor cable converter".
I am also looking for a wired headset (not in-ears). I know the one from Koss iPorta Pro isn't working.
Today, I found this other one, pretty cool, which claims to be working for most sonyericsson phones: Cresyn C550S black.
Not sure if the adapter is needed though. Maybe it would fix the problem with the
Let me know if you are using any nice wired headphone with mic that is working with x10!
I want to buy ultimate ears headset with built in microphone. Does anyone if they would work with x10 mini ? It says works with iPod, iPhone, MP3 players.
I'm guessing not, as the X10mini/pro headset has extra connectors on the side (hence the keyhole shaped earphone socket)
If you can try before you buy that would be your best bet. Ive tried many that wont play sound out of the headphones much less use the mics. It seems like A LOT of headphones especially ones with mics don't work with the phone.
I bought headset from mytrendyphone.co.uk. I bought Jabra BT3030 and its really a best buy.
It all depends on the wiring standard thats used on the TRRS mini jack..
I think this is how it is on the X10 (and also iPhone, HTC, Blackberry etc..)
1 Tip Left Audio Out
2 Ring 1 Right Audio Out
3 Ring 2 Ground
4 Sleeve Microphone Input\answer button
I know Nokia have pin 3 and 4 swapped around so wont work with the X10, and there may be more out there but I think most are trying to standardise to the above setup.. so you shouldn´t have too much trouble finding a headset to work with the X10 (just stay away from Nokia)
(the extra bits next to the mini plug are just for powering the SE portable speakers and other SE crap you will be able to buy.. nothing to do with headsets)

It doesn´t. The original SE headset that came with my X10 mini pro has absolutely normal connector (despite the fact that the socket on the X10 mini pro is keyhole shaped), and no functionality is lost.

Ahh, ok then. The headset that came with my X10mini (MH810) has the extra connectors, but also has an inline control (play/pause, next, prev, vol +/-), so perhaps the extra connectors drive those
Does anyone know a good headset like the MH810 that has music control and mic but also with removable headphones (normal mini jack)? would be nice to use over ear headphones in winter.. (was thinking of going for the MW600 BT, but would be happy with wired if anyone knows a good one?) needs to be able to change headphones.
I wanted to give these a shot :

They seem good quality, though a bit expensive, but don't know if they would work with the mini. I sent a mail to them asking if it would but didn't get any answer.

Looks like they come with a bunch of adaptors (to cater for all devices, even Nokia who went with a weird TRRS setup) so they should work on the mini.
I'm also pretty sure anything that will work for the iphone will work on the mini (same TRRS configuration) .. but I haven't tested this (it would certainly make it easier for us to find headsets) someone must have an iphone headset available to try out? so many sheep out there with those devices... (I'm living on the other side of the world at the moment to all my iphone junky friends so I can't test it myself )
Well, just got a mail from UrbanEars customer service :
Hi,
Thanks foru your mail. I´m sorry to say but Sony Ericsson Xperis X10 Mini is not compatible with Urbanears Medis.
Urbanears Medis is microphone and remote compatible with most devices from Nokia, Blackberry, HTC and iPhones.
So I won't buy them, don't want to take the risk even if there seems to be adapters.
Also, I bought UltimatEars headset with built in microphone (it says on the box it works with iPhone and most phones) and ... tada !! they don't work with the mini :-(
when I hook them up, the sound still just goes out the phone speakers, sound doesn't even come out of the headset.
So folks, I guess we're just stuck buying sony ericsson products when it comes to headsets.

weird.. I was pretty sure the pin outs were the same as iPhone (according to various sites I looked at) shows you can't believe everything you read on the intertubes! bloody sony! I guess the best thing would be to find a SE headset with mic/control and stereo headphone socket.. then you can use any headphones.. the only SE ones I have seen are for the old style (hot port?) plug like the K850/W800 etc.. I haven't seen one with a normal TRRS plug yet I just got a MW600 BT set so I can use some decent headphones over BT but would be nice to find a wired option too.
BTW apart from the song titles and caller id not showing up on the MW600 the sound quality is pretty amazing, and it auto switches from listening to music from the X10mini to Skype calls from the laptop, and visa versa.. and on Ubuntu too! sweeeeeet!
I am thinking of getting one of those, but in reality I hate having to charge the headset. how much autonomy do you get with a full charge ? how long is a complete charge ?

SE marketing claims about 10 hours Playtime/talk time and 520hrs standby! ... I only just unboxed mine yesterday so time will tell what the real world figures are.. (I mostly use it for music and not much for calls.. I hate looking like a **** talking to myself in public, but if I am driving, on the bike or skiing then headsets are o.k
I think full charge is a couple of hours.. and it comes with a wall charger (550mA) so thats my new phone charger next to the bed (as the Amperage delivered is better for the phone than the 850mA stock one) and it means the USB cable can stay with the laptop for charging both phone and headset when I'm traveling.
I'm pretty happy with the headset so far.. and if I eventually replace the X10 with something that supports track id and caller id over bluetooth.. then woot!
I have a set of these
http://www.sonyericsson.com/cws/products/accessories/overview/hbh-ds205?lc=en&cc=au
they are the BOMB on x10mini
I have tried two iphone headsets they DO NOT work with mini. A lot of headsets don't in my experience. I wish the iphone headset worked because I like it more than the headset that came with the mini.
It actually doesnt even recognize them at all when you plug them in it continues to play sounds/music from the speaker.
I got HPM-60/J on ebay and they work(including mic).
Does anyone know earbud style (not noise cancellation) with mic that are Y shaped not around the back style(i dont know what its actually called but Se loves that kind)?
Basically I want iphone headset style that works on the mini.
The problem with iphone headsets in the X10mini is the Ground and Mic wire on the plug is opposite... so there is no ground wire for the headphones or mic, this means no sound can come out.
to make an adapter all you would have to do is chop the end off an old headset (either Sony or Iphone) with a few inches of cable to play with..
work out with a multimeter which pins are which cables T(tip)-R(ring)-R(ring)-S(sleeve) and solder on a TRRS socket (available from most good electronics shops) with the last Ring and the Sleeve reversed. (remember its tricky to solder this type of cable.. you need to scrape off some of the coloured insulation with a sharp knife or razor blade so the solder sticks to the bare copper)
if this is too difficult then buy a TRRS socket and TRRS plug from you electronics store and a piece of 4 core cable and join them (swapping the last Ring and Sleeve around)
I have seen the finished adaptors for sale online for about $15-$20 USD (might be worth the investment if you are not good with a soldering iron)
http://www.kvconnection.com/product-p/km-354r3m-r2f.htm
I had some hp headphones that used a seperate jack for the mike and they work perfectly with my mini pro as do all of the headphones I've tried it with.
But they might be different as the pro's headset that comes with no media controls except a button that will pause it.

MH810 From SE are Great full Music control nice sound and CHEAP i love them!! better than the stock one
I plan to buy some cheap iphone mic headphones from ebay and mod it.
does anyone know the pin read outs on the sony plugs?
I just hate uing In-ear headphones for talking on skype. I can hear myself talking all the time.
I'll post pics of the mod here once i'm done.
Hi.
This is my first Samsung so, have mercy
None of my headphones are working.
I only get sound in one side and the other is too low. Almost inexistent.
I tried with cable to connect it to my audio system and the same.
Next step was to use the hands free from my X10.
Is working ... but not as expected. Almost no bass and no trebles.
The only ones working are the ones from the SGS2 box or using my headphones via MW600 bluetooth (which i don't like it as it drains more batter and the SGS2 is power hungry)
So, is a problem with the 3.5" ?
Or my headphones?
Or ... is a compatibility problem? Can i find somewhere an 3.5" adapter?
Thanks
Its gonna sound dumb but u have plugged the jack all the way in yeah? Takes a little bit more force than u think

Worked with other headsets for me
- Dell streak headset
-Iphone headset
Needed that extra push to fit the pin in really well
Well, i'll try one more time ... anyway, earlier i found something else using the X10 headset.
If i press the "answer" button from headset, everything is fine but as soon as is de-pressed ... it goes back.
I have a similar problem with my expensive Shure earphones. They sound much worst and "tinny" then the standard earphones that come with the S2. Even if these earphones are cheap, at least the sound is acceptable.
If I plug the output of the S2 into my car stereo, I again have terrible sound. I am not sure if this has anything to do with the fact that the stock S2 earphones have 4 contacts on the jackplug as compared to 3 on normal jackplugs. The extra contact, I presume, is to permit the switch for fast forward to work on the headphones.
I can't understand why other people don't have this problem - and yes the jack plug is pushed right in.
Yep, pretty sure, the jack is down entirely and still not working.
I tried with the SE X10 headset and normal stereo headphones
I think i will have to stick with the bluetooth if i can't find an adapter of some sorts.
SE seems to like those proprietary headphone sockets anyone know of a converter so we can use HTC/iPhone style headphones with mic?
My trusty skullcandy headset lies suddenly idle, and the SE headset is not the best headset i've tried.
the xperia mini have 3.5 audio jack, iPhone headset microphone might not work but you can listen to music on it still.
now the older lower ends se phones have the proprietary that your talking about with 3.5 jack on the other end.
correct me if I'm missing the point
The sk17 will only accept se style mic headsets, normal sound only headsets works fine. There are tons of nice headsets with mic that works in htc, samsung and iphone alike, so it's sad that se once again went with their own connection type
Sent from my GT-P1000 using Tapatalk
oooohhh ic i never notice this bc i never use wired ones anymore just the stereo bluetooth ones. the ones that comes with the box never fits in the ear. i can only use the in ear buds.
but if you really appreciate music and sound the blue tooth still isn't better than hardwires no matter how much they cost it's just not possible.
nice heads up
i dont like those earbuds there horrible, i tried my iphone earphones (the ones with the volume keys and answer button) and it cam up with an error, i cant remember exactly what the error was. then the sound only comes out the speaker
hopefully someone might make a mod or hack that lets us use other earphones
luckily in india they bundle SE mini pro with a good inear ear phones .
try other normal 3.5 mm head set it should work fine , because AFAIK its iphone who have special jack , and not sony thats why the iphone one's dont work well.
iPhone has special plug yeah, but HTC and Samsung uses the same plug, so my Skullcandy FMJ's work flawlessly in my Galaxy tab, but not in my Mini pro (which is a lot easier to have in the pocket)
I believe alle we need is a small converter as i read somewhere (engadget i think) that Sony would be coming with a set of headphones for iphone/htc/samsung, that would work with the Xperia line through a converter cable bundled in the package.
So hopefully we'll find these on ebay soon!
Buy Koss and never look back

Don't think it'll solve the problem of not having a mic on the cable.
Untill something with a mic comes out, i'll just stick with my Sony MDR-NC60.
Try the MW600 - the sounds is very close to wired. Unless I am in a silent room I can't tell the difference between my MW600 on direct wired connection on my U20i.
I saw those a few days ago, and i've been considering them, but i''ll love to avoid another powersucker connected to my phone..
Anyone by any chance have the MH700 lying around and able to test them? They list the Arc and Ray as compatible phones, so should work with the Mini Pro, but would love a confirmation before i spend ~40$ on them.
http://www.sonyericsson.com/cws/products/accessories/overview/mh700?cc=gb&lc=en#view=overview
They also list the x10 Mini Pro as compatible... if you still have the headset from your old Mini Pro, see if it will work with the new one. If it does, then the MH700 should work, too. Keep us posted, I'm curious about this as well.
dave
Thats a good idea, i'll see if i can dig em up, but i think my brother has em, and he's not really close by... but i think i got a work mate with the x10 mini aswell. I'll report bag as soon as i've testet.
edit: Just remembered the x10min got a special jack for the remote part, and wont fit in a normal 3.5mm jack
I don't remember what the extra jack on the x10 minipro was for, but the included headset didn't require it.
I can confirm that the headset from my old minipro also works with the new minipro and the remote button is fully functional... so, the MH700 headset *should* work, also.

I got a MW600, but I find that it is not fully compatible with my xperia mini pro (SK17), indeed, before I had a c905 and there was information on the MW600 screen (like the hour when no music and the title of the music when playing). On my fast test on my xperia mini pro(SK17) those informations were not onscreen.
I feel your paid, My Apple headphones wouldn't work properly. Hell, SE's stock headset doesn't work with iPod/iPhone either.
A way to use those headsets/headphones is to plug it in incorrectly, like not all the way in, mess with it and you will eventually get clear sound but this is only for output sound, not for mic.
What I have also noticed is that if I press and hold the talk button or the center button, the sound goes through but who the hell wants to hold a button in order to listen to music? No one of course. If you plug it in all the way, chances are you will get a "incompatible assesory" error, either that or you will get really bad, low depth sound without holding the button.
It's basically SE's way of being like Apple, with Apples USB charging cable, etc.
Either way, the SE Xperia Mini Pro SK17a's stock headphones (whatever the model number is, does anyone still have it?) is good enough for me though.
Probably not for anyone else in the world
btw i need a few posts before posting in dev forum,
got a xperia mini pro,
i modded hpm-77 to 3.5 mm jack
not joke
just the wiring needed to be connected, everything works as the stock earphones
in the next post i attach a pic
not the nicest but it works
Nice work!
I recently found out it's the wiring that's just wonky on iphone/ipod, but because they have such a big marketshare almost every major headphone maker, makes their headsets iphone/ipod compatible.
I found this adaptor http://www.amazon.co.uk/FiiO-adapte...MQ1Q/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1322052355&sr=8-1 that should make using iphone/ipod compatible headphones work on the Xperia line (and a couple of others), it has been dispatched from amazon today, so should have it end of this week or early next week. I'll report back about functionality.
Just received the adapter, and it works flawlessly!
My SkullCandy iphone headset now works with my Xperia Mini Pro, and damn what an improvement over the stock headset!
I got 3 headphones with mic for my old iPhone, 1 of them (mic and 1 button only) works on the lumia 920.
The other 2 with 3 buttons - sound works.
volume buttons don't work and I don't care for that.
problem is, the mic doesn't work.
I did a lot of testing, I found that if I disconnect and reconnect it 2-3 times during a call (and only during a call) the mic will work for about 20 seconds and stop working.
During these 20 seconds I can end the call and start a new one, use voice control, or continue my current call. shaking the cable doesn't make it stop working. It will work for 20 seconds and stop for no reason.
Seems to me like a software issue, but I am not sure.
Anyone here knows if one of the converters/adaptors would make it work?
I mean FiiO (LU1 or LU2), or ADPTR-TRRS-35 (google it, sorry cannot post links).
Since the 920 suppose to support both configurations of TRRS (AHJ and OMTP) I assumed it would support these headsets.
My non-working headsets:
1. yurbuds inspire pro
2. Audio-Technica ATH-CP500i
If you know of any other adaptor that might work please let me know.
Headphones made for the iPhone will not be fully compatible. You need to make sure you use headphones made for either Windows Phone devices or Android Phones. It's not a software bug. Apple moves the mic band on the headphone jack so that they will only work with an iPhones.
Apple does this so that consumers are required to buy headphones that are licensed by Apple and that they can only use those said headphones with iDevices.
EDIT: Using a converter should work. Although I recommend just buying non apple branded headphones w/ mic or a bluetooth headset.
thanks for your yhkughts but i dlnt think so

@djbrx thanks but I don't think this is true. The Nokia Lumia 920 supports both AHJ and OMTP ( MIC on last ring or on one before).
but still - the MIC does not work on a 3 button head set. On a one button headset it works.
reason I was thinking it is a software issue was that if I quickly pull it out and back in while in a call the MIC will start working perfectly until I finish my call. But I have to do that for each and every call.
its not a problem in my device I tried it on 3 Lumia 920 all behaved the same.
I'm thinking the MIC transmits on different frequency or something lika that? I have no idea exactly what is going on but it seems like software issue since I can get it to work sometimes.
any other thoughts?
There is no standard for headphones with mic. The way the extra ring on the plug works varies along with the button which often sends pulses to the device, it is how the pulses are interpreted that varies.
You need one designed for the phone you are using. iPhone headphones are awful, although the latest version seems to look better but I've not heard them.

Yes, there is:
Search for OMTP in Wikipedia (can't post links)
There are actually 2 standards for headset with mic. AHJ and OMTP. thing is, apple is apple - never follow standards...
There is no standard for headset with mic and volume buttons - and that's where things stop working. as far as I tested, iPhone one button headsets works great on the lumia 920 (I tested 2, both works). the ones with 3 buttons don't - I tested 3.
As for their quality - don't know when was the last time you tried, but they have far superior headsets on the market than windows phone or any other phone. yurbuds are awesome, audio-technical, senns - are both amazing.
Granted - I can't stand "beats", their awful but ppl seem to like them not sure why.
The stock headphones I got with my iPhone 4 were much better than the stock that came with my Nokia... this is why I am so frustrated.
Well, guess there is nothing I can do.
I now have 2 very high quality headsets that I have no use for, I guess it's time to sell them.
Thanks for everyone's help!

so true, but this is how it is everywhere
Even HTML have many different interpretations, even HTML5 which suppose to be one common standard doesn't work the same on all browsers.
The world would be a better place with just open source / standard and without these manipulative corporations.
BOSE QC?
Hi
Anyone know if the BOSE C®15/QC®2 mobile communications kit works with the Lumia 920? I mean both mic and headphones of course.
Morgan
Possible fix.
I have a set of Bang & Olufsen EarSet 3i which has 3 buttons
and is made for the iPhone so the mic dosent work for my Galaxy s3.
However if i hold down the Volume button while pluggin it in it registeres the right way and the mic works.
I dont know if it works but have a go and report back
i'am also considering going for the Lumia 920 so this would be great info
Well, these one works for all (i tried on iphone, androids, wp7.5, wp8)
1. Audio Technica AT335i : http://www.audio-technica.com.hk/index.php?op=productdetails&pid=398&lang=eng
2. Nokia Purity WH920: http://www.puritybymonster.com/en/#page_in-ear
Personally, I prefer no.1 due to I can use my own earphones and it has VOLUME CONTROL SLIDER. Nice.
As for no.2, it's monster, and it's too boomy for me. Wifey loves it though so I gave to her. Got it for free as bonus when I bought the 710
Out of all of my headphones (Shure SE102, Shure SE210, Klipsch S4i, BeyerDynamics DT250, Beats Solo HD, and Nokia Purity WH930), the only ones that work 100% properly are my Nokia Purity. However, I have successfully used the cable from the Nokias with my Beats and vice versa, so I'm tempted to get a coupler so I can at least use my Shures as they are earplugs.
