if you wanna get trapped into Apple's wonderful world then ok other than that
"LOL" thats all i have to say about the trade
the iphone 4 screen is much better
the X10 has a better design and is more comfortable, also the apps on android are by 65% free vs 30% free on Apple app store
You need to know that apple pay much attention to little details in their phones, specially on the hardware side: things like high FPS on screen, trully multi touch and high quality image view are things that lacks the X10.
One major drawback, specially for you who are an android user will be the back button, iOS lacks back function, you have to return to the home screen and do everything again in your app to get to the point you wanted to return, very annoying.
On the android side, you can get things like Flash Player 10.1, cloud messaging and Wifi tether in infrastructure modde something that will be very welcome the day you want truly mobile wifi access on a tablet for example.
Also, very important: USB Storage on android is very welcome! you can't access the iPhone memory without some hacking, and not everyone has an iphone hacking kit installed on their computer.

good post! all those reasons and several more are why i chose android over iFone.
to the OP, why choose between 1 particular android handset and a totally different device? why not choose another android device if you are not happy with x10 (i am but not everyone is). There are several handsets that are higherspec available that still have all the benefits of android

What's an iPhone? Is it that over-priced, over-hyped and under-performing piece of metal from the chewed fruit company?

Could you make a X10 vs iPhone 4 video and post it on youtube?
I'd like to see how the X10 battles the iPhone 4.
From having and x10 and a touch hd, i couldn't use the small screen with thumbnail apps. There is.no way to get info fast ie widgets or notification bar. The multitasking is gimped and the freedom is constructed. However, its a gorgeous piece of kit and super fast, with the touch screen being a show stopper. Its all about functionality versus an app for everthing really

Video? Are you kidding? Camera's photos from both phones would be more than enough! Not enough? What about multitasking?
Yes, I had iPhone 3G for around a year and after that have never ever thought about iPhone 4. Battle is over.
Hehe, did a little "face off" the other day with my xperia vs iphone in the apple store the other day. Iphone screen is brighter when both set to full and whizzing around homescreen is buttery smooth on iphone but the browser really kicks butt on the xperia. On the apple store wifi, the xperia was consistently quicker at loading apples own web pages by a couple of seconds and scrolling across the high res images on their site was alot smoother on xperia. Xperia is nicer in the hand and the screen seems alot bigger as the phones are very close to the same size. I won't even go into signal strength, on the same network the signal dropped from full to one bar when picking up the iphone :-( I turned off the wifi and it failed to fully load yahoo, whereas the xperia loaded the site through 3g as quickly as the iphone on wifi. I wasn't trying to do the death grip, just what was comfortable :'( but I guess it wouldn't be too much of a problem with the bumper case. Iphone is nice and navigating the interface is a very pleasurable experience, less frustrating than xperia but it is not an upgrade for an xperia owner. I would feel I was taking a few steps back by "upgrading" to an iphone. I really do think the xperia is a great device!

In my opinion the iphone is a good phone... But, its boring. If u are not interested in changing anything and ur happy with the easy to use ui, then iphone will be fine. But if your like me and u like to tinker and change, then iphone will frustrate u. I try using my girlfriends iphone and I hate it.
On a side note it kind of annoys me when people constantly refer to their phones as iphone... Eg, call me on my iphone... Lol not a big deal, but its not like we go around saying call me on my x10

The iPhone app store is the best right now, you can find apps and a lot of games, I have been playing with my brother's new iPod touch and the app store is overwhelming other mobile stores, much richer apps and games.
I think for you to post this topic, you should probably go for the iphone 4.
Even if you decided to keep your x10, you would still dream about the iphone everyday and diss your x10. ( we have enough people whining over the x10 already )
So its simply better to just get the iphone.
I just find it sad that all the best games like ID's RAGE and N.O.V.A 2 are both i-phone only titles..
i personally hate my x10. its a loverly looking device, very sexy on par with the iphone 4 for looks but thats where it ends. my iphone 4 out performs my x10 in every way, speed, app design, clarity and ofcourse more and better apps. it is a reall shame SE have screwed up so badly with the x10, if it wasnt for their uselessness it would be a very decent phone. but as it stands right now its just another android phone, infact its not just another because unlike most android phones we are very limited on what we can do on it thanks to an uncracked bootloader.
my list gos: (of what ive owned)
iphone 4
dell streak
G1
x10
as soon as SE pull their finger out and support their devices better i will never buy another SE phone again. total let down
The way I see it:
iPhone: It's for the general user that doesn't know how his phone works and doesn't care to know. Someone that just wants something to do what it's meant to do and loose the ability to tailor it to his specific needs.
Android phone: Needs a more careful user but you get: a cheaper phone capable or even better on a lot of functions. Ability to run apps in background, adding memory by replacing the card (iphone haves internal fixed memory), ability to switch battery (essential to me while travelling).
I would rather have an android phone then the iphone. It could be a deferent android, such as the galaxy S, but for now the X10 haves everything I need.

He's kinda had his heart set on a new iphone, coming from a 3GS and a Mac user.
I think he'd be smart to make the jump now to Droid, and if he was able to pull the trigger i think he'd never look back. He can get a new Skyrocket refurb for $150 less than the 4S he wants. He's broke so the savings alone should be huge for him! But you know how it is when you get your mind set on something like this. He's also pretty savy, so i think he'd figure out everything he wants to do. He thinks iphone will sync better with his mac and everything he wants to do already.
one thing that will make him think about it - tell him that the iphone doesnt have any porn applications, free or paid NADA....iphone is for kids 13yo below.
android has it all...u name it.
Free mp3 sharing sites on Android market. Never pay iTunes again....that alone made my 14 year old switch.

Can't really say much. You yourself said he already has a fixed mindset. Tbh iPhone does have the advantage when it comes to syncing. Personally, if it wasn't for Android's crazy level of customization, I would've gone with an iPhone. But that was the past. Its just too expensive. Especially without a plan.

Can you take the battery out or upgrade the memory via sd yet?
How about customise to your liking via themes?
Oh sorry, nevermind, iPhone SUX!
Some people will want the iPhone no matter how much you tell them about alternatives, they are buying it based on brand loyalty only. But here are most Android device advantages:
Hardware:
-Replaceable battery
-Expandable Memory (microSD)
-Non-proprietary charging/usb cable (microUSB)
-Better specs for cheaper than iPhone
The OS itself allows more customization with widgets, launchers, keyboards, etc. So even if you hate the default look it can easily be changed without rooting/flashing. Adobe flash, even though its being discontinued, is great for the full internet experience at least until HTML5 deployment catches up.
This probably doesn't apply since he has a Mac, but I hate iTunes on Windows. It feels bloated and runs useless background processes wasting resources. I keep it off my computers. I'm not sure how iPhones sync better. I can download apps from the market to my Android phone from a browser. I sync music with a small batch file that I made which uses xcopy to sync the two directories, its a lot faster than iTunes.
I guess I'm in the minority here but if he's used to iphone and mac, and got his heart set on 4S maybe its best for him to get what he wants rather than what the majority think is better for him.
As a mac and older gen iphone user he is used to that and it is easier for apple products to connect together than android with apple, if he isn't looking at other phones he is probably not ready to make a switch anyway.

the iphone is a good product if you are into a limited scope of activities and do not want to learn how to use something that is a little less intuative. If I got my wife a galaxy nexus she would hate it. She wants to turn it on, send a text, make a call, and check her facebook. for users in that class the iphone is the easiest way to go
- iphone's ugly looking waterdrop theme, lifeless, static icons, the entire interface is from the past and feels cheap - like a toy. ice cream sandwich is lightyears ahead in styles und functionality.
- caged. man you cant do anything. my droid remotely controls my dslr (iphone does too, with a laptop in between, duh), locates cables in my walls when i need to drill holes, measures my sleep patterns and wakes me outside REM-phases or sends messages into REM for lucid-dreaming/astral-travel, etc. android is full freedom, everything the device is capable of android allows. iphone is a brick, i'd be bored to heck playing angry birds all day.
- it's inability to change keyboard. most iphone users i know haven't even heard of swype. they need ages to get simple texts done or they reduce their typing to a minimum. i laugh when i see them sweating hard tapping out texts - it's a stone age thing to do really. so apple decides what's good and what's not, you have to bite the bullet and use a typing technology that was never meant to be used on a device as tiny as a smartphone. it's keyboard renders it use-less.
- multitasking on android is awesome. droid's getting real-time facebook msg's, whatsapp, skype calls, voip calls, mail, bluetooth walkitalki, company mail, dropbox, just about every service in the net. everythings coming in nicely through subtle push-notifications. personally i have stopped using countless of programs on my laptop and the browser can go screw itself, phone is collecting everything with ease wherever i go. iphone users are not even close to that experience, again coz apple has crippled the device. they argue battery power, but what the heck, one day or two at max is fine, recharging is fast.

You make good sense but regarding jailbroken iphones doing all a rooted android can do I'm sure that must be wrong.
For example on a non rooted android you can change launcher completely, have full automation using apps like tasker (eg when I'm at home turn wifi on but when at cinema go silent, auto answer calls and when films finished book me a taxi etc).
You can also change keyboard completely for example, use widgets, put toggle switches in notification bar and so on. I know at least the tasker type automation isn't possible as that's an ios restriction that stops that so at least one thing I can do on stock android a jb iphone can't.

Just let your bro get the iPhone, he might hate you for convincing him to get an Android after it starts locking up, randomly rebooting and draining battery like crazy. Your brother might also enjoy timely software updates and well design apps with consistent UI.
To be honest, I have been back and forth from Iphone 4 to Samsung Galaxy s2 over the last few months.
The ability to change, customise and tweak everything on Android has its pro's and cons. fun but takes over your life, especially when you get into Rom flashing, I swapped my SGS2 a few weeks back for another Iphone 4, I thought I had managed to quell my addiction to Android...Alas nope, I am returning yet again, OK things run along all well and good on the iOs not too many hiccups, all nice and dandy, dandy andnnnnzzzzzzzz zzzzz arrrghhh I woke up, yes the Iphone can become a little tedious to say the least.
I think iOs is brilliant on the IPAD, Android Pads just don't come close in my opinion, but for the phones there is such an amazing choice and the SGS2 is similar in style to the Iphone. There just is not a community like this one for the Iphone except for trawling through the Itunes clunky market...Androids market you can faff about on anywhere on any computer and it syncs directly to your phone, even if you dont have it with you...Google is better synced with Android and facebook on Android is far better with many more options, twitter notifications work on Android, rarely do on iOs and to top it all of Scramble has just been released for Android yesterday, so there are no more excuses

Yeah I guess I'm not the type of person who really appreciates customization capability. I realized ONLY thing I like about this particular android is the large screen.

If you are new to Android coming from the iPhone then you'll feel that way for a bit. I did miss my iPhone but once these awesome devs clear up some bugs you'll be really happy....if you like customizing. I couldn't stand iTunes so once I got around the noobness point, Android is so much nicer. The iPhone is more for people that just want to push an icon like my wife and kids.

Most likely a bad device.
I have had mine since mid December...all stock, only updates via Kies.
It's been more stable than 2.2.2 on my Dell Streak.
As for a 5" iPhone, well, Jobs is gone so anything is possible.
You watch though...if Apple comes out with a screen anywhere near the
size of 5", the iphone fanbois will trumpet it out that it is an innovation and
the best thing in the world LOL.
lol you do realize stuff crashes consistantly on the iphone it just doesnt tell you right?
Force Closes are from improperly written apps. this happens, there are so many varients in the Android world it is hard to keep up with the changes.
Apple has a set screen size depending on the device, Android has many different screen sizes.
If you like to DUMB down then go back to the iPhone.

There was actually a study published a few months ago that showed that major iPhone apps actually crash more often than their Android counterparts; however, since the iPhone doesn't display a message to the user when that happens, and it doesn't give the users an option to report the crash, most iPhone users perceive fewer crashes. (In other words, they simply think that they must have hit the Home or Close buttons since all the iPhone does is crash back to their homescreens).
The second theory on why this is the case is that it's much easier and faster to release app updates on Android markets. Android devs can easily roll out responsive updates while iPhone devs have to submit every single update to Apple's ridiculous approval process.
Story here:

The truth will set you free.
I've been running the I717 since day one and I've gotten exactly 1 FC from a weird app I downloaded. once I deleted it I was good. Try doing a factory reset and start fresh. download apps that have 4 or more stars. My phone has been a champ from day one with all the crap I throw at it (not even screen slowdowns like some are reporting). If you don't like it, you don't like it, there's no harm in that. All I know is my Ipod frustrates me something fierce when I use it so irritations go both ways. Hope you stick around, the stock ICS should be wandering through in the next couple of months. If you don't want to wait, I hear there's awesome Roms of ICS already. check it out.

What I've experienced on the Note, & why I said when I went back to the iPhone after the EVO3D that I would never go back to Android: LAG.
What good is customization if everything lags. What's the point of customization anyway? It's not like a computer that has incredible battery life & the customization is actually useful. It's just pretty widgets & UI mods.
I'm also shocked at how many ads are in the free apps compared to years ago.
Anyway, I'll go back to my sound app ecosystem with no lag. On top of that, the apps seem to run a lot smoother & take advantage of the A5 dual core vs the dual core in the Note.
+ I've spent way too much $$ on apps for iOS LOL. Sure I could get some for free on Android, but some simply aren't avail. Some I would have to buy again. Unfortunately, they all run better on iOS.

In my experience with android devices the major culprit for lag is on screen widgets that update. If you set up your device like ios with nothing but apps you will see no lag. If you use widgets and stuff you might redraw.

Interesting observations. Honestly I see my Ipod lag a whole lot more than my note (or even my streak) with much much fewer apps. I mean I use my ipod for pandora, email and rage comics and running all three at once it lags something fierce. I can do all that with my note plus play temple run and not see a stutter. As for the in app adverts, apple is just as bad, but the funnier thing is, the ration of paid vs free apps in IOS is a lot higher in favor of paid apps than in android, which is probably why you see fewer ads in IOS. One thing I noticed with IOS is most apps, especially the free ones, rarely have over 3 stars, makes me wonder if they're really worth the time... All I know is, between IOS and android, I prefer android hands down, I can customize my UI how I want to, I can have widgets if I'd like and do virtually whatever I want with it. if you want I can talk with my buddy to see if he'll trade his 4S strait across for your note.
Hey all, first off I just wanna say this is a great site and great community. You guys have been my number one destination when I need something for my phone and never disappoint. So thanks to any devs and anyone else who reads this!
Now, moving on, I purchased my GS2 back in November after having the 3 previous iPhone's before (opted for the GS2 instead of the 4s). And everything had been going pretty good up to this point and I was loving my phone. That was until I received an iPad for a graduation gift... and now I've come to a bit of a fork in the road. I returned the iPad at first because I had always told myself that if the day would ever come I would get a Samsung/Android tablet.
But I've been comparing the 2 a lot and have spent time on my phone and my friend's iPhone and iPad and I can't help but notice how much smoother the games are on iOS, not to mention the far far superior selection of apps. I spend a lot of time playing games on my phone and my GS2 often seems boring because of the poor selection. I remember my iPhone having a lot more people playing games online than I see on Android. I also feel like I've wasted a lot of time flashing new roms on my galaxy. I'm a hardcore diagnosed flashaholic and in a way I think it might be nice to have something that just works (iOS).
TBH, I've always hated Apple, everything about them, but right or wrong they've stolen a lot of good ideas from Android such as the notification bar that was once one of my biggest complaints about iOS. And they now have the chrome browser which I hear may be getting Flash NEXT when it comes out? As far as I can tell the only thing their missing is Flash.
IMHO: I hate how iOS gets the attention and the good stuff because that's what everyone and their mother is buying these days. I've always liked Android more but iOS gets so much more support.
The other thing I like about iOS is the great syncing between iPhone and iPad. I want my phone and tablet to play together nicely. Notes, reminders, apps, everything. Whereas if I get an Android tablet (looking at ASUS Pad 700 when it comes out July 16) I would have to use something like evernote and gtasks and a separate app to sync between devices if that will even work. I also don't like the limited number of tablet specific apps on the Play Store. But Android is no doubt gaining momentum, just look at 9 million GS3 preorders.
Sorry for the massive wall of text I'm just trying to sort out what I've gathered so far and get some opinions on it. So what do you guys think? For a phone/tablet combo which is better, iOS or Android?
Thanks for spending the time to read this if you did and I appreciate and input you guys can provide. I assume I'll get more Android answers but maybe there will be something I'm not seeing or haven't thought about before.
TLDR; iOS or Android for phone/tablet combo?
obviously this forum will fill with "GO ANDROID"
so i am going to buck that and say "GO IOS"
its obvious thats the direction you are leaning, based on the complaints

OP....I understand your point about how everything in ios just works right out of the box while we go crazy here trying to find that one ROM and kernel which we will be happy with but we never find one. We might settle for one for some time but then we need regular updates to keep us satisfied.
Having said that there are somethings which are easier with android....at least for me. Eg.
-File management is much more intuitive.
-Music management is awesome...no need to go thru the uber irritating iTunes. I can just copy folders of mp3 and can play whole folders Instead of albums
-Easy to sideload apps which allow you to do something extra like download YouTube videos.
-Also prefer the larger screens.
-Like the option of external memory.
- and a few other things I can't remember
On this forum you will only get iPhone sucks remarks. I personally like iPhone and ios but buy android to satisfy my above listed requirements which ios does not provide or does not provide well.
My 2 cents.

**** Apple. bad location for this.
I'd pick android, and I'd get the Nexus 7.
I'm no apple alfan boy nor am I an android fan boy. I like something that looks good works good and does what I want.
I had the iPhone 3 3gs 4. I loved the 4 by far it was just a sleek design IMO, I jail broke it to have more functionality and more open source management. I got an upgrade and I though apple 4s? Why pay extra for a few upgrades? Now mind you my iPhone 4 was never touched by human hands after I bought it. I had it cased screen protected the works I take VERY good care of my phones so it wasn't like it was all scratched so a 4s was justified.
So I stepped into android I've heard about it seen it on TV l read about it on the web. So I saw the gs2 and wanted it so I got it. Stock rom dissapointed so in a couple hours of owning the phone I had flashed roms apps the works it was soooooooo much easier then jail breaking. The cons I found was the 70$ a month warrenty while apple would replace anything I brought a jail broken iPhone in for a faulty battery and they replaced the whole phone.
I love both but both have cons why not use Google for notes and such?

I've had the first iphone and ditched it for an HTC back in the day which had 3G GPS and whatnot while the iphone was lacking about everything. I'm talking iOS 1... anyhow now I've own a lot of devices, have been able to play with a few tablets phones and whatnot. At the end it is hard to decide which pill you should take because there are good things in both products and you can't have all, I found the best combination for me was having an iPad2-3G and my current handset (Galaxy S3 ATM) which is the one I take everywhere. I've had the Motorola Xoom, and trust me I wouldn't touch an android tablet EVER. There is too much redundancy having the same OS on a tablet and your device, you can do exactly the same there is minimal to none difference between running a tablet or a handset with android. thats why I got an iPad I can have "quality software" if you want to call it that way and have my freedom/rom flashing/geek tinkering with android. And the iPad2's are pretty cheap these days

HAHAHAHAHA..bugger!!!
I switched to android, just after a jam with friends where all were just talking about how wonderful android is, as I was always a BB and iOS fanboy b4 that instance... and I too found my experiences with this enchanting and quite amazing..
After using the this SGS2 which I got from a friend moving on to some better one, I have used it in stock condition for about a month to get full gist of what android experience is all about..
now I'm also into flashing business and have already flashed my first custom rom (shostock) and kernel(NEAK) with modem (UCKH7) and really having a great time with this.. no issues whatsoever !!!
I'm so entralled by android that I have also started learrning about creating android apps (previously tried my hand on iOS app dev too) and nips n tricks of modding a kernel/rom to get the desired experience.. maybe with a little more time, I may also start making my own stuffss !!!

In all honesty and having used both myself, it sounds like you would be happier with the IOS. I personally switched from IOS to android and like it MUCH better but it's not for everyone. The IOS does work well but not near as customizable as android, but is more user friendly.
Thanks for all the replies guys!! If I do ever switch over too the iPhone I certainly will miss this forum. On a side note, is it just me or do 3 out of 4 people in the xda iPhone forums not speak English? Are iPhone users really that young? lol. But really thanks for all the help, I appreciate it.

Thanks for this idea. Thought about it shortly after posting this and wondered if I should have put a "Neither" option in the poll (not that it would have changed much by the look of it lol). It would make sense since iPad gets apps specifically made for it while Android tablets kinda get left out.

Hey everybody. I have been a longtime iPhone user and I enjoy the phone but I'm getting so bored with it. I love the androids that my friends have especially the Galaxy S3. I really want a Note or the Note 2 but worry about reliability or loss of features. Are there any iPhone converts on here that have no regrets with switching? Thanks!
I'm confused. Your prior posts indicated you owned an android phone since last year.
anyway, i owned 3 versions of iphones and last year switched to Samsung infuse (disappointing because of poor gps issues) but once I went to the NOTE I'll never turn back to iphone (u hit the nail on the head...boring).
I had the 3g and the 4 and do not regret switching to Android. Bought the Dell Streak years ago when making my switch and now own the gnote. Best move I ever made. If u are a tweaker then go with Android, if like the same old vanilla flavor stay with apple.

Do you guys have issues with force closing and app reliability? That's the stuff I worry about.

Force closing is not really an issue anymore. If you had an app on iphone close on you unexpectedly, basically its the same thing but it just didn't advertise it.

Yeah that's true come to think of it. On the iPhone it just exits out and doesn't say anything.
I migrated from iPhone a few weeks ago. Had an iPhone 4, and then bought an iPhone 4S when it was released. So it's been about 2 years of using the iPhone. I wanted a bigger screen so I switched to the Note. It has definitely not been a smooth transition, but nothing I didn't really expect. Here are some major issues I had:
Pros:
- Widgets. Seriously, how has iPhone not enabled these yet
- Screen size
- Don't need to jailbreak/root for full functionality
- Flash support (although not possible with Chrome so this will vanish soon)
- No proprietary hardware, more freedom in general
Cons:
- eMail is terrible, need to pay for third party app which still doesn't work properly
- Music app is terrible, need to pay for Poweramp or equivalent, which is still buggy
- No built-in podcast app, need to pay for DoggCatcher or equivalent
- Browser UI is clunky and slow (dealing w/ bookmarks and tabs is a nightmare, much snappier on iPhone)
Overall I still think I'll like my Note more in the long run but getting everything to work properly is a royal pain in the ass, and not cheap, either. The only app I've really had an issue with is Poweramp which I use for music, and every couple minutes I get a static white noise for about a second. And like I said eMail overall is completely terrible, to the point where I said "eff this" and just forward everything to my GMail account. maybe that was their plan all along...

Assuming you purchased it, this shouldn't be happening. I've been using PowerAmp forever and there's never been anything like that. You may have had bad luck and your Note has bad hardware.
I used iPhone since 2007, from 2G to 4, back to 3G (cuz 4 was stolen) until June this year.
The ONLY thing I miss is Bejeweled Blitz. Yes, music/email apps are not as good, but for phone/text/browsing/video, Note has been far and away better than iPhone. And I was not impressed at all with iPhone 5 either.

What the hell phone are you using? I know your not talking about the note! And the iPhone doesn't have features lmfao it has apps that's it. iPhones don't do anything. Its a cosmetic aluminum can with a screen. I've had one since 2g-4 and at 4s I said I'm not that dumb which I really started to say at 4 not doing much more than 3gs! But hey a phone is a phone if you make calls!

I think you've got some issues going on with you're phone, combined with a possible lack of general knowledge of android apps that a little google searching could help with.
The built in email app is pretty decent in the stock ics build, even then there are several free alternatives such as k9mail like was previously mentioned (it beats the pants off apple's mail app for iPhone).
For music, plenty of free apps that work great. Winamp, is one of the biggest ones that I can think of off the top of my head, Mortplayer is another.
The native browser in ics for my note compared to safari on my iphone 4 is quite a bit faster not only in rendering pages but also has quite a few features that safari lacks (dim screen, download files, save pages, desktop mode, just to name a few.) Plus scrolling pages is relatively lag free.
So I'm not sure where you're coming from on those issues you've listed. I've only had this phone for a week and I've already got everything working flawlessly.
My only one complaint is the very apparent lag when using the spen to write. I havent figured out a fix yet for the millisecond delay from the time you start writing something to the time it shows up in snote. The delay is a tad annoying (I wish it was more like actually writing on paper where the lines you draw show up instantly). I figured since this device was supppsed to be meant for note taking and drawing there should be very little lag with the spen, hopefully project butter will fix this in jb.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using xda app-developers app
K-9... no that good an app. Kaiten isn't either. I have to agree that the stock email app is week. These other alternatives aren't that great either. I have a Note, contemplated on going to iPhone 5, but I do love the Note and large screen though.

With so many improvements on android os and top notch high end phones, I'm never going back to an iPhone. When comparing high end phones..the iPhone never comes to mind anymore but that's just me. The look of the phone is tired and iOS is plain and boring. Nuff said.

Whoa! Another Streak owner. I had it too, and if Dell had actually DONE something with it, the potential was all there (though there were issues, like a battery not up to task, and build quality. I loved it, but had to abandon it for lack of development / upgrades - sheesh it took Dell 6 months to get to Froyo from Eclair!.
As for the op...Let me take a shot at this, and hopefully I can help you decide w if you are bored, and you like to tweak (not REQUIRED as some persist, but POSSIBLE, which iPhone is not designed for) you will likely wonder why you stayed with iPhone as long as you did. '
I was a Windows Mobile guy , but Windows Phone looked a but "dumbed down" and was looking less open to modding, as we called it "in the old days" So I jumped on android specifically for the hot n heavy development going on. You will NOT get bored on Android. I like to say, if there is something you can't do on Android today, you will be able to tommorow or soon, cause SOMEONE is out there developing it right now. Look at the rate that Android took over the phone market. That was not an accident. The iPhone was revolutionary, especially the original in 2007, but has gone evolutionary ever since. Did Android, and Samsung, and HTC and others "steal" iPhone stuff? Hell yeah they did, but "building and improving upon your competitors products is what all tecnical consumer companies DO. So what's the point? You want to lead in Mobile device sales and buzz? Make buzz worthy, sales worthy mobile devices. The Japanese famously cribbed European car designs, applied innovative thinking, and found ways to build EFFICIENTLY and make the cars themselves efficient, and basically outsold their competitors by building a more desirable product, on a number of levels.
That's all Samsung did vs. Apple, and Apple doesn't like it. Is Apple technically "right"? Probably. I say who freaking CARES. Samsung should perhaps pay something for cribbing things a but too obviously, but a Billion Plus?
Sorry, side tracked into all the stuff we are inundated with in the press. Basically, this is the worlds easiest decision. Every US Carrier (assuming the OP is in the US) offers a buyers remorse period. If you can;t tell in 30 days whether Android is for you, then you aren't ever going to know. Heck, I would know almost for certain in 2-3 days max, since thats enough time to use the phone for "phone stuff" and play with it as a portable computer, which is it's other persona. The OS CAN be a bit off-putting at first, and it is not a polished in some ways as iPhone. But that's MOSTLY due to the fact that you can DO so much more. You can't get power without a little complexity. As long as it's logical and intuitive, power is awesome.
One final example, and I think it is an excellent argument for Android vs. iPhone: I was in Japan on business, and found that even with a "World Phone" as AT&T calls it, I found that I had connectivity to everything, but my signal strength was poor. Like 2 bars of 4 on the signal icon. Calls weren't dropping, but were not too clear, and data (email, etc) was slow. I happened to have 3 different "radios" on my SD card (cool little memory devices that you can increase your phones memory with! Apple doesn't want you to know about them, LOL!) The phones "Radio" or Baseband is basically a software modem, of sorts, but it's the code that interacts with the transceiver in your phone, in any event. In my hotel room on the first night, I tried 2 different radios. Didn't NEED to try the 3rd. The second one bumped me to 4 bars of signal strength, and maintained 3-4 for the rest of the trip. Took me 5 minutes to do, and saved the day. Try THAT on an i Phone. Even an iPhone after "Jailbreaking it is limited as to what you can do. VERY few pwople "Develop" at the GUI or OS level for iPhone. They are all developing APPs, and iPhone apps ARE quality bits, for he most part. This is the ONLY area that Android is behind the curve, but I won;t go into some of the reasons, since I already typed a novel here. Suffice it to say that many Android apps need to get better. The killer apps already are great. There is just too much crap...
Good luck with your decision. You WILL have an adjustment period. Stay open minded, and willing to learn, and I think you can be a "convert" too in time, offering help to some other poor Apple drone (not that YOU are one, LOL!)
Has thus guy ran a custom ROM or just stock?

You're absolutely spot on with this comparison. I've seen articles talking about Google taking shots at its "Android partners". I feel they are legitimately taking a shot at Apple. This is clear spec-wise. Pure Android vs ios. 6p for the win, lol.
You can't really compare these. The ecosystem differences mean too much to let the hardware drive the discussion. Plus it's just a flame war.

What about you guys? do you feel android is superior to iOS in every subject? Personally I feel the app support and API there are better, but thats about it

6s is faster, A9 chip is better, battery life on ios is great because ios is so well optimized. Depends how you use your phone though. I was planning to switch to 6s because got tired of gps never working on android when I needed it, but on my note 5 gps locks right away so I resisted temptation.

Voted worst XDA thread of the week!
you are in the wrong place to talk about iphones on here kid

You can't really compare these. The ecosystem differences mean too much to let the hardware drive the discussion. Plus it's just a flame war.

This is the best answer, seriously. There's hardcore people in both camps that will "never switch back because blah blah blah".
I respect Apple, they make nice devices and their interface is very fluid. Android has come a LONG way and just suits me better. Personally the lack of a "back" button on iOS devices baffles me.
There are plenty of issues with IOS. Plenty of issues with Android as well. For me, Android works much better than IOS. I can't stand the home screen of folders and icons. Its like looking at nova's app list all day. Then on top of that there are device limitations like not being able to use my phones storage to move a file around like I would on a PC just drives me nuts. The way safari scrolls drives me nuts. Its one page at a time and that is it, scroll, stop, scroll, stop if I'm on a forum or skipping a couple of articles on a long tech site its annoying. Mail attachments, same file type limitations. No back button, no menu button etc etc. Their pressure gimmick reminds me of long press which again has been around forever. The list goes on and on.
Lets not mention inferior hardware, more expensive and while people from both groups can be insufferable I'll take an Android fanboi over an IOS one any day of the week.

yup, great response. that's mostly why I've been with Android and then the nexus line since the early S2 days, and didn't switch to an Iphone. Thing is though, it doesn't matter how big Android gets(as it's already the biggest OS by far) it still seems like the apps support on iOS is better(which, from what I've read, is bc app dev claim Iphone revenue is ridiculously better then Android, even when android has more phones on the market).
So the only reason I always thought about making a switch is because of the apps catalog. They have more polished apps in general, way more enjoyable games etc and to those that may of noticed( probably most didn't) iOS still gets better support from big companies- mostly because they have more API support. For those that are using Vine/Snapchat etc from day one you'd know about the time difference it took for these(and many) other apps and in build features just to get to android, sometimes an update on iOS for an app gets to android months later. and that sadly still happens.
And I got to say I'm not one of those performance is everything guy and benchmark my phone the moment I get it, but hands down 2.5k on greekbench which is 2.5x then my Note 4 which is already fast is ridiculous. they do have some good engineers(..and the 810 couldn't even not overheat:silly: )
Edit: for those that love to argue over the internet, this is really not the place. People can have a discussion about a subject and not go directly into a flame war. Saying that an Iphone is better at some areas doesn't make me an iOS fanboy, and owning many Android phones(including previous nexuses) doesn't make me an Android fanboy(mostly, anyway ; ). Yes, I like android but I wouldn't bash competitioners just for the sake of it. And it's enjoyable to talk about technology and phones. that's the point of this thread - just for some previous comments I've seen.

Well for starters the Iphone has limited ram and it limits what it can do multi task wise. Which is why when people exit out of safari and open something else, say facetime many times the browser has to refresh when you go back to it. Same for other applications. There is less room to multitask on the Iphone. Yet you pay the same as another device with perhaps double the ram.
The retina display is inferior.
There are two pretty big items right there.

Other than cpu it is. Almost every android flagship dominates in every other category minus maybe build quality

My Note 5 has 4gb's of ram but my iPhone 6 Plus, with only 1gb of ram can keep way more apps open in the background without having to reload them. Don't get me wrong, I still prefer Android but more doesn't necessarily mean better.

You can now accomplish most activities, apps & games on both platforms. You can get same work done on both platforms.
Today os platforms are more like Armani VS Gucci Vs Burberry etc. All will cover your body but decision in based on whose design you like.

With Note 5's bloated touchwiz launcher/apps eating those RAM.. yeah I agree with you.
3gb RAM Nexus 6P running stock Android gonna blow both away in multitasking...
Ahh, the age old question. I'm mainly a Android user but like and use IOS also. When the iphone came out, I really wanted it, but I didn't get it because I didn't want to switch to AT&T. When my contract was up, a friend of mine told me to checkout the Nexus One. I've been hooked ever since.
I always find it funny when people start throwing specs around. Yes the Iphone has inferior specs, but that doesn't matter. The Iphone has always operated well with the hardware it had. There are a lot of things I like about Android over IOS but the specs were never something I worried about.
