I used to be able to choose whether I wanted to toggle activesync mode or storage mode when plugging in my htc hd2 to my pc's usb port. Now the box doesn't appear anymore (tried two desktop computers so far) and it goes straight into storage mode, and windows pops up the window asking what to do (Play, copy, print, open folder, no action, etc.).
I searched the phone up and down for an activesync option (I thought I'd seen it somewhere), but couldn't find it.
Could anyone please tell me how to reenable activesync without hardresetting?
Thanks in advance.
P.S.: I'm running an Energy rom.
Setings -> Menu -> All Settings -> Connections -> USB to PC. Then select the 'ask me first about USB connection....'

First, make sure you mobile has connected to your pc thru usb.
"At the PC side"
next, open Microsoft ActiveSync, open menu File->Connection Settings...
and, make sure 'Allow usb connection' is checked, and the value of drop-down list 'This computer is connected to' is either 'Automatic' or 'Internet'.
"On the Mobile"
I am not sure the exact words in English edition, as my mobile is Chinese edition. So i will try to use the words which fit into the meaning that they described.
Start->Set up(maybe Setting)->Connection tab->Connection.
make sure the value of drop-down list 'Network Adapter is connected to' is 'Internet'
so, everything will be fine.
hope you enjoy it.
it's not working
On your PC
// -- Microsoft ActiveSync --//
"File"->"Connection Settings" ->
(1) check 'Allow USB connection'
(2) 'This computer is connected to' -> 'Internet'
// -- On your device -- //
"Start"->"Setting"->"Connections" tab ->
(1) "Connection" -> "Advance" tab -> "Select Network"
-> the options for "Programs that ... the Internet should connect using:"
choose the option "My Work Network"
(2) "Network Cards" -> "My Network card connects to" -> "The Internet"
(3) "Network Cards" -> "Remote-NDIS Host"
Select "Use server-assigned IP address"
// -- Now test your connection before trying the option below -- //
If "Use server-assigned IP address" above doesn't work use
"Use specific IP address"
IP address: 196.254.2.2
Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
Default gateway: 196.254.2.1
// -- How to test your connection -- //
- Unplug your USB cable (if it is plugged-in when you change the setting)
- Plug your USB cable
- Wait for your activesync to complete.
- Use IE in your device to test connection
ps: Some software (i.e. WorldMate) doesn't seems to work even I have connection on other sofware (i.e. IE).
please help, just yesterday i was able to connect to activesync but now i cant it just stays connecting then it cannot connect but windows detects it as windows CE device here's what ive tried so far:
1. tried the activetoubleshooter :still cannot connect
2. tried a dozen usb cables and connected it through the main usb port: still cannot connect
3. reinstalled activesync (from microsoft site), rebooted pc and my rw6828: still cannot connect
4. disabled windows firewall, rebooted : still cannot connect
5. unchecked the Programs>settings>connections>usb to pc> enable advanced network functionality: still cannot connect ( i noticed that if i unchecked the advanced network functionality and i would got to activesync>menu>connections> "WHEN CRADLED" there's no usb option and if i check the advanced network etc etc it shows the usb option
man this is so annoying, i cannot install anything...hope you guys know what to do, ive been fixing this for the last 7.5 hours non stop with no solution...

uncheck the USB to PC if any from your system/connection setting
Goto phone Setting -> Connections -> USB to PC, check whether USB connection is ticked or not...
did that already guys but like what i said:
unchecked the Programs>settings>connections>usb to pc> enable advanced network functionality: still cannot connect ( i noticed that if i unchecked the advanced network functionality and i would got to activesync>menu>connections> "WHEN CRADLED" there's no usb option and if i check the advanced network etc etc it shows the usb option
i finally found the culprit its the pocket mechanic app, i ran all the tests there and deleted some stuff, maybe something with the usb connection got deleted also so beware!

Whose ROM are you using? It is known that some older nhocbanme's 6.1 ROMs have this problem.
Try different ROM. helloworld1 is good.
activesync problem
try this:
download and install activesync 4.5 version
Disable firewall first and then connect the phone to pc.
Is there any way to get the phone to automatically detect usb plugged in as drives on my pc, seen quite a few automount apps in market, but they all seem to either need rooted phone or only mount the sd card, and not mount inbuilt storage. Any ideas folks, as having to go into settings, network setting and usb settings is a royal pain each time I want to put anything on the phone.
Kies doesn't work at all, says need MTP drivers which I've tried reinstalling to no effect(I digress -this is a separate issue) .
Thanks in advance for any help provided peeps.
Erhm, when you plug your phone into your PC, you just drag down your status bar and select 'connect to pc'. No need to go into settings you know.
Settings => Applications => Development => USB debuggin [X]
enable that, connect USB, then this:

It should show up as a notification (when you connect the phone to your computer) or go to Developer options and search for "Select USB Configurations"
if you can't find Developer Options, first go to About phone and tap "Build number" until it appears
check your cable
try a different USB port in your computer
if it seems to be a software error tell us about your OS (distribution, version, etc.)
Subj.
It's very annoying to have to always manually find that notification and change the mode. I'd like it to just always connect in file transfer mode as soon as USB is plugged in. Phone is rooted, open to any suggestions
I see, it's hidden in System -> Developer Options -> Select USB configuration
For some odd reason, I remember having to do this like three times (literally) before it stuck when configuring the phone... but after that, it has remained set so.
