Need Eris 2.1 OTA update.zip file - Droid Eris Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys im having trouble finding the OTA update.zip file from the google servers. Any chance any of you might have it or a link to it? I need to do some things with a friend's Eris but its at 1.5.
An easy way to install Amon-Ra recovery would also be nice though and would eliminate my need for the 2.1 OTA zip file. The universal one click root method that also installs RA-Eris recovery does not install for some reason. I figured i needed to update the phone first. It wont update OTA as it has been flashed to MetroPCS.

Can't you just check for updates on the 1.5 phone and receive it that way?

maybe?

The OTA is not being sent out AFIK. you maybe could use the rom setup to bring you back to stock 2.1 from a rooted froyo --> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=792026 then go to root from this step.
*EDIT* They have to be rooted already to use this with Amon-Ra, sorry for not stating that earlier.

Anyways, ive found a solution. Ill just root it at 1.5. The process installs Ra-eris recovery so after that ill flash a custom 2.1 ROM and be good to go for what i need. Thanks guys.

hm, maybe try to uninstall v1.1 first (settings->applications->manage applications->Gingerbreak->uninstall). download the v1.2 apk. Install v1.2 onto your Atrix with the instructions here, something like (once your phone is connected, debugging mode enabled, USB mode none:
adb devices ->output should list a device, your atrix
adb install C:\directory where you downloaded the apk\GingerBreak-v1.20.apk
the gingerbreak app should now be on your phone, run it and then unroot

Your doing it wrong.
You could also move gladroot to an SD card and execute through file manager to install it.
I could be wrong, but you could probably just delete the su and superuser.apk and you should be unrooted.

Not true, either part. Wtf.
Safest route........flash sbf and be done with it. By time you find the magic shortcut that will fu*k your phone up you could have flashed 4.1.26 and updated OTA TO 4.1.83.

I thought the sbf made it not an "official build" and then wouldn't OTA update? Have a friend with an Atrix same issue can't seem to unroot so hoping someone can give some clear steps that I can pass on. I believe he used aRoot originally to root it...

No. SBF is the official build. SBF does not keep you from OTA update.

[Q] Rooted T-Bolt downloaded OTA update while sleeping

Ok, so last night my phone downloaded the update (guessing Gingerbread). I'm still running 2.2.1 on my Thunderbolt, as I was out of the country for the past few months. I caught the phone before it completed the installation and thought that if I removed the PG05IMG.zip file from the sd card, that would prevent it from being able to install the update. I turned the phone back on and it began to attempt to install the update again. I would like to flash a new ROM to the phone (as I was simply rooted without a custom ROM before) so that I am running 2.3+ but I don't want to have to re-root the phone. I would like to be able to back everything up before I flash a new ROM. How do I prevent the phone from installing the OTA update that was inadvertently downloaded last night , which will unroot my phone??
Please help! Thank you
Not sure if you can stop it at this point and since the phone can still be rooted with the GB update, it may just be easiest to let it go.
Otherwise, if you really want to stop the update, you probably need to boot into Fastboot and find the files that are part of the update. From my Eris days, the OTA update isn't packaged up in the PG05IMG.zip file that you removed. I'm not sure where the files are or what files are the ones you need to delete though...
Someone fee free to correct me, but if you flash the CWM recovery it will prevent the update from happening?
Essentially, I just use the phone for wireless tether, so that's mainly why I root. Doubt that changes much of anything...

That's a common problem as I recall from a few weeks back. I saw threads about it but never read them as I wasn't affected. I don't know if it's a dead-end or easily fixed or complicated to fix...

I stumbled into clockwork recovery earlier... I will see what I can accomplish if I can make it back there!
Side note.. I can get into the phone for a minute or so before it restarts again.

Two thumbs up! So far, so good as for this recommendation. Thank you!!!
Any thoughts on how to prevent VZW from pushing this update from now on?
Also need the best 2.3+ ROM... or is CM9 with 4.0 on the way??

Install a non-stock ROM. Don't worry, you can get Sense-based ones that won't be anything "new".
It appears that VZW will eventually force the update so there's no way that I'm aware of to stop it while running stock (even rooted stock).

Flash a ROM that has the update. There are a few around here that are 2.11.605.5 that you flash in Recovery so that it'll stop bugging you to update. Just pick one that is already rooted. You can do a backup of your currrent rom, flash the 2.11.605.5 then restore your data and your all set....

There are a couple threads on preventing ota updates. A quick search will tell you what file to rename and how to.

[Q] applying OTA update fail and keeping root

Hey all,
apologize in advance if this was asked before. i have performed a search and could not locate a definite answer.
i have SG3 ATT1747ucalem rooted using the guide on this forum.
since 2 days ago i have a notification for an OTA from ATT.
i have read the thread here and from users instructions installed voodoo OTA keeper.
i then tried to perform the OTA,
it keep going into recovery and then fail on "e: signature verification failed"
i have tried to temp unroot the device and try again - fail.
tried to toggle the verification off and apply the OTA - fail.
my question is this:
is there any way (or a thread to read) where there are instructions on how to apply the OTA update without loosing your root?
please let me know, thank you.

you need stock recovery to do it. you can either reflash root66 to get stock recovery back, use voodoo ota root keeper and do the ota update. or i think someone make the update into a cwm flashable zip and you can just flash that in cwm.

yea you need stock recovery. I forget if it was att or verizon (all these forums jumble in my head) but someone made the update into a cwm flashable zip. its not hard to do if you can find that.

[Q] Pushed OTA KitKat update continues to eat up my data!

I really like the way my OneMax w/verizon is and am not really interested in updating. The automatic firmware downloads is eating up my data daily. I just accepted to install it so it would stop, but it won't install due to error (it's a rooted device). I have S-Off on the phone right now and used the SuperSu unroot feature to try and let the update do it's thing just so it would stop downloading. Now, the root checker apps say I'm not rooted (but i think i still am). I tried the virtuous manual stock update but it gives me a installation aborted message while in recovery mode. Any help would be appreciated!
I think you need to have stock recovery & stock rom installed to accept the ota.

Yes, if you want the update you will.
one last question, my device won't pop up on ABD devices on my PC anymore. Am I still rooted?

you only need to have stock recovery installed AND 100% stock system files. no system mods whatsoever.
assuming you enabled USB debugging under the developer options on the phone....you may need to update your version of adb/fastboot.
The root question....are you s off? If so that question is irrelevant as you only need to flash a custom recovery and flash the latest su zip from there to root any ROM...even the stock ota.

Yeah I have S-off on the phone. I will update the ADB version and retry. I don't know why I thought the su would be able to do a one-click unroot. All it ended up doing was just confusing me. I'm new to rooting and flashing, and it's fun figuring these things out. You guys are really helpful around here. I'll look for a tutorial on how to flash a custom recovery.
