a few questions about Ginger Clone R2 and lag fixes it supports.
1)I've heard that Ginger Clone already has Super I/O, is this true?
2)I've already applied Voodoo to it, can i apply OCLF too and Super I/O if its not already there?
3) Will having more than 1 lagfix cause any problems? I'll only do it if people tell me that all 3 are good, and won't cause problems.
4)will it use more battery? or the same amount?

1. I'm not sure, but possible, either way it doesn't matter.
2. You can NOT apply multiple lag fixes, they'll just overwrite each other. A Lag fix is not necessarily a "fix". Your system uses RFS (which is slow) at default. A Lag fix changes that to either EXT2 (using OCLF) or EXT4 (voodoo) in simple.
3. Thus, you cannot have multiple lag fixes, it won't work.
4. No, using a "lagfix" won't use more battery, it's just changing your system, not running an app. Although using Super IO and voodoo *might* drain more battery, the extra drain is minute and not enough to cause alarm.

1) The kernel that comes with the rom has super IO included.
2) Voodoo requires a special kernel, so you basically replaced the Super I/O with Voodoo.
3) As stated previously, they are not compatible. However, the don't necessarily overight each other. Voodoo actually reformats the partitions whereas OCLF creates a swap file of sorts. You definately don't want to use them together though.
4) Was already answered.

Pretty much just as stated above RFS is a "slow" file system. Ext2 is the "fastest" while ext4 is faster than rfs but a little slower than ext2. So why use ext4 over ext2? Because ext4 is still hella fast and extremely safer than ext2. Ext4 uses journaling; what that means is if your phone randomly crashes all your data will be intact. Multiple crashes on ext2 can lead to corrupt data which won't permanently destroy your phone, but losing your angry birds progress would really suck. In my opinion ext4 is the only way to go, but feel free to test them all out and decide for yourself.
Oh, and the deal with Eugene's Super IO kernel is I'm pretty sure it has the .ko modules from the newly released 2.2.1 which greatly improves IO performance on RFS. While it is a vast improvement, ext4 (and ext2 for that matter) will still top IO performance hands down.
Guys I'm running ginger clone R2 and i flashed a JL5 modem. So i want to flash a voodoo, which one here is compatible with the ROM?

how can i know that type of LagFix do i have?
i remember applying Lagfix but i don't know which one.
i need to check it because many of MODS and Roms have a warning regarding if i have Voodoo Lag FIX.
Thanks
same situtation here.. how do you know if you ever installed any lagfix on your phone?
Well if you have the one I use
once installed correctly shows program called MCR Script in the program menu.
And to see if a lag fix is installed you can test your phone with quadrant benchmark and if you top the chart and get 2000 or up for score When lag fix is installed
ignore.... double post
Dirrk's Kernel Official Release
These are my kernels from samsungs crappy source! I am not responsible for you guys breaking your phone, which will happen if you do not FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS. again FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS.
Thanks to jt1134 for fixing voodoo, skeeterslint for helping me on the kernel builds and koush for clockwork and his ramdisk.
A lot of credit goes out to everyone in #samsung-fascinate on irc.freenode.net, they all helped contribute to jt1134s and my success and anyone who helped tests our 40+ versions before release.
If you want my source its all on github.
www.github.com/Dirrk
All of these kernels have the voodoo fix which is using ext4 for your /data partition. If you complain about your quadrant scores being lower you deserve a smack. Also sgtmack has confirmed that you can just install over jts if you choose to do so or any of my other versions.

These are clockwork installs. To be safe I would remove voodoo if you are using any of the older version already. To remove voodoo open your /sdcard/voodoo folder and make a new directory named disable_lagfix and restart your phone.
Enjoy
cool o mondo whats the dif between standard and low? and the highest is 1.2ghz right? do i need set cpu to make it work?
questions....
1. if we already have the latest 0.2 Voodoo Ext4 lagfix installed will this affect it?
2. do we need SetCPU?, i assume we do since this is a kernel not an app and i know we wouldn't be flashing an overclocking utility with no controllable GUI
If you don't use Setcpu, it will default to 800. So you can run it without, but it will be slower.
I did the remove_voodoo file thing to disable the first voodoo, then flashed this one. It worked great.
My phone doesn't like the 1200 lv kernel. I can run slower at lv, not 1.2. Every phone is different. If the lv kernel crashes, just flash the stock voltage one.
what scaling should we choose?
i installed SetCPU, chose autodetect
at first it showed 800Mhz max and 100Mhz min, after a few seconds it showed 1200max and 100min
"Conservative" is the default scaling, should we leave it that way?

Conservative is the way to go...others have been known to cause issues.
so if lv doesnt work do we have to unistall it to flash sv?
No, I've been flashing over them with no problems. As long as the new kernel has voodoo, you can flash over the old one.
ok, something isn't right
already had voodoo 0.2 lagfix installed, fyi
before (with 0.2 voodoo lagfix already installed)
Linpack 8.128 MFLOPS
Quadrant 1646
after installing D01 1200LV:
Linpack 7.946 MFLOPS
Quadrant 1726
so i was like why is it slower on Linpack? rebooted
went into SetCPU, shows 1200max 100min, Set on Boot has never been checked and still isn't. conservative scaling still selected
i never had to re-do the autodetect, it went straight for 1200max 100min at boot without me doing anything
and now im getting 6.4's in Linpack......rebooted ran it, got 6.4, said meh, flaked out...ran again....6.4.....ran Quadrant, got 1481....
how exactly do we uninstall this?
Dirrk, can you share/quantify the actual voltage differences between standard and low. I'll assume standard is the max 1300mV??

Just a suggestion: Before you uninstall, try wiping data/cache. When I was flashing all the earlier jt and Dirrk kernels, it always seemed to help with the quadrants.
I know it's not SUPPOSED to affect any of that stuff, but after a few flashes, my phone would start to act funny, and that cleared it up 100% of the time.
Good luck!

I just did the 1200 standard voltage and it is working beautifully

doing the 1200 sv d01 dropped my quadrant score from 1805 to 1494. probably going to go back to the voodoo .02 lagfix.

1750 quadrant/7.99 mflops on LV 1200
LV seems stable through a few rounds of benchmarks
Does LV not go up to 1200 that often or is that just me?
Q: If I install one of these kernel's would re-flashing/reverting back to the stock kernel be an easy task (just some Odin work)? Or would it be more involved?
Edit: I see that you can flash these kernel's on top of each other. I'm just wondering if you can flash the stock kernel on top of these as well or if that would cause problems. Thanks!

run a Quadrant test. if you dont know what that is,search "quadrant" in market and download. after you run the test,if your results are in 900s, voodoo is not enabled. if your results are around 1500(can be 1400,1600 or 1700) then voodoo IS ENABLED. if your results are 2000+,then the ext2 lagfix from oclf is installed.

navigate your sd card if you found voodoo folder then you have voodoo lagfix, to disable it create a file ( or folder i'm not sure) inside it and name it disable_lagfix then restart your phone and run quadrant, you should get score of 800~1000 just to be sure that the lagfix is disabled
Simple..go to market and install the voodoo toggle app from zenmaster. It shows if voodoo is ON or OFF on ur phone

Do some good research before you decide to make any changes. Although, I would suggest starting over from true stock via Odin. It doesn't matter if you have a lagfix or not, you can still put on a stock ROM and start from scratch. Make sure to repartition with odin. Hope this helps

Im kinda wary of that app. I downloaded it and I disabled voodoo thru cwr. After it rebooted I checked the app and said voodoo was still enabled. I have a.feeling it only gives a.correct reading if you turn voodoo off and.on thru the app.
Powered by Axura with a dash of Voodoo
Hold power button. Recovery. Red screen should display once the phone is done booting up. Go down to voodoo lagfix with the volume keys. Power button to select it. It should voodoo enabled, enabled on next boot or something along those lines. You can disable it from there if you have it installed.

hi don't mean to hijack the topic, but i also just got a Vibrant currently running Ginger R2. i tried Quadrant and i get 1216. not sure if this means Voodoo is on. These kernels are ONLY meant for DJ05/DL09 (Fascinate) , DI14 (Mesmerize) and DJ20 (Showcase)!
Below please find kernels using the latest Voodoo5 lagfix code, for the VZW Fascinate, USCC Mesmerize, and Cellular South Showcase. Updated now with Supercurio's Voodoo Sound enhancements! Download voodoo control app from the market to tweak your audio settings. If you enjoy Voodoo Sound, please consider purchasing the donate version of the app. Nobody works harder than Supercurio!
Kernels include various tweaks for performance and speed, and have also been slightly undervolted to be nice to your battery. They are NOT overclocked, as IMO, there is no benefit to overclocking other than inflated benchmarks and worse battery life.
These packages will also flash a modified version of clockworkmod recovery. This recovery will work for nandroid backup/restore, as well as flashing roms/zips. There is also a Voodoo menu in the recovery, to let you change Voodoo specific options. I also have added additional options to the Advanced options menu. If you have issues with this recovery, DO NOT BUG KOUSH. Bug me instead.
DO NOT used Rom Manager to reboot into recovery if using these kernels. If you do, you will boot into Koush's version of recovery. Either use the 3 button combo or adb reboot recovery.
To disable Voodoo lagfix, simply boot into recovery, go to the Voodoo menu, and select 'Disable lagfix'. Then reboot your phone, and listen for confirmation that Voodoo lagfix has been deactivated.
If you have any questions about what Voodoo lagfix is or does, please refer to Adrynalyne's recent threads on the topic. I am not responsible for any mistakes that are made due to a lack of understanding of this code.
Full credit for Voodoo lagfix and sound code goes to supercurio, I merely ported it to these devices.
Enjoy.

Round 2: I was able to restore the MBR & have Voodoo 5 setup go through but now it shows none of the prior settings. It's defaulted to the system default & has a ton of FCs. It appears that mount & df show everything correctly but /etc/fstab doesn't exist. I noticed that there is a /voodoo/root/etc/fstab but that doesn't have anything in it.
Is there a workaround for this to work? Would recreating the fstab fix this?

does mount show cache/data/dbdata and system as ext4?
Since I keep getting msgs from people asking me how I have optimized my Xperia S for less lag and such, I thought I would make a thread teaching others all I know. First a little background info.
I have used a HTC Hero for 3 years before I got this phone, so I know a few things about optimizing and getting the most out of old hardware. This means that I am quite versed in memory management, deleting unneeded apks and proper overclocking for maximum effect and battery life. I hope to install my knowledge upon others so we can stop getting noob threads like "I have less than 1gb of ram" or "ICS lags so I am going back to gingerbread, you suck Sony!".
Before we start, if you have used any of the older kernels with old CWM versions, those versions of CWM can bork your data or system. This leads to root issues, apps still showing after clearing, unable to mount partitions in CWM and any other number of issues. To fix this i recommend flashing a stock Sony ICS firmware, then fastbooting the latest version of Advanced Stock Kernel. This will give you a nice clean slate to work with. Also you can make a backup of stock firmware to roll back to if you have problems.
Now off to the races.

Memory Management/Free Ram - Many many people complaining about free RAM just don't understand how it works. In any efficient modern OS (Windows 7, ICS) free ram is wasted ram. I theory you should be using your free space to preload resources you might possibly be needing or using them to run a variety of apps and such. The only time where you would really need a large amount of free RAM would be when you want to play a game/ use an app which requires a larger amount of memory than is normally required. Sometimes Android will have a problem freeing up this required space which can lead to lag/freezing or even a reboot. If you don't play a ton of games, then don't worry about having a ton of free RAM. Secondly, more lag is created by the OS needing to resart an app or service (ie Home launcher) than if it needs to kill an app to free RAM. This is why you get Home redraws which lag for a split second, because the OS has killed off the home and it is restarting it. So less free RAM generally means less lag.
PS. Android takes up space for the system and this space is not shown on the ram usage screen. This means that if you have a device that says 1gb of RAM, the free RAM may show only 600mb. Don't freak out, this is normal all devices have it though it varies depending on skinned versions of android and which android version it is using (ie ICS uses more ram than previous versions).
How to fix Android Memory Management - Android memory management has made massive steps forward from how terrible it used to be, but it is still not optimal to say the least. We can help fix this by running a script by our not so friendly XDA member Zepplinrox.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=991276
Go to this link and read everything that you can comprehend before reading my explanation. This can be tricky and can force bootloops so make sure you back up with Nandroid.
Step Zero - Get script manager off the market. Run as root
Step One - Download the kit and the latest Supercharger Script
Step Two - Run the kit, generally on the ROMS i have tried at least, you dont need to install a new busybox or root version so skip those.
Step Three - Run the auto mode in the script or Download the automatic patcher which patches your smali files and pushes over the new services jar required for locking the home in memory. (alternatively you can do it the hard way with the smali patcher script but I dont recommend it)
Step Four - Run the script and read through things. It should make sense but ask me if you need help.
Step Five - Clean and Reboot. Sometimes it can freeze on first boot, hold vol up and power to restart. This latest script is still in testing so you may have issues but it is certainly better than the original setup.
I love the Sh1t out of supercharging and have used it for years.
Supercharging is really easy on KA17 as the services.jar is already ready to go. Just run the script which fixes oom memory settings and you are done. Dont forget to clean and reboot.
Follow-up- Run a flush engine option in the script which will then create a quick launch script in V6 supercharger directory. Put this on a schedule to run every few hours and you wont have to worry about rebooting your phone as much. Run it as superuser.
Want even less lag? - Delete any unneeded apk files either with a root explorer or Titanium Backup. This way you wont have apps you dont use fighting for memory and cpu. I delete powersaver and the exchange client as I dont use either. Other roms may have much more.
Kernel - Your kernel and kernel settings will make a huge difference in the feel of the device. I recommend XSX v6 (doesnt have crappy CWM). Set it to 1876-30 hotplug and try things out. Not every chip is the same so they all wont run great. My Hero hated the max frequencies, but my Xperia S will take all the way up to 1900 just fine. Choose a scheduler, I use deadline, but CFQ or noop are good too.
Thanks for the helpful info
Btw which setting do you use in the superscript? Aggressive, balanced etc?
does the new v6 supercharger script patch services.odex automatically? because 'im using stock .45 rom, and it is odexed which made it a lot harder to patch in the past
in the past i did the smali edits myself but i just couldn't be bothered doing it with every new stock ICS release

Use the windows patcher or there is a new auto patcher that works pretty good integrated. Check it out.
Windows Patcher for some reason doesnt work for me :/ Btw, which auto patcher are you talking abt? Is it in the script? Which number config?
Btw, if I use a deodexed ROM such as KA ROM, do I have to follow the same steps or are there fewer steps compared? Thanks

Hmm, the windows patcher works good for me. Try the ICS center in the latest version of the script. I use KA rom and have no problems. If you need to I can post an edited services.jar file, but try and see if you can get it to work yourself first.
When I try to run the script it says missing essential tables, what does that mean? Running it without root works until, it asks for root
EDIT: If it is about the starter kit, I have successfully used it

Its a root problem. What kernel and rom are you on and did you install the root version from the starter kit or not.
V6 supercharger can be a pain to deal with when you havent used it, but hang in there and I will help you with it. Once you figure it out, it is easy to do.

Advanced stock kernel build 15 stock .45. Yes, should I flash the kernel again?
EDIT: Reflashing kernel did not work.
Skickat från min LT26i

Its probably the stock .45 version. Stock roms can be notoriously difficult to supercharge. I use KA12 and havent had any problems beyond a couple root problems caused by the XSX version with the bad ramdisk.

Ah. Well compared to KAxx I'm very happy with stock so this will have to wait I guess

I'll update my kernel soon now I'm upating my rom
Sent from my LT26i using xda app-developers app
I've installed it on my Acso S (LT26w) and don't see some difference.
My steps:
download all, copy to sdcard and prepare
path jar file via exe
run script and follow instructions
What I must to get in sum?

Sorry for ot but. Compared to KA10, how's the rom now? When trying both stock was significantly faster and more smooth for me. And do you use the ka kernel?

What does the final part of supercharger script say? What percentage supercharged?
