I'm leaving this here for you guys to test, don't spam the thread with thanks,IF you don't know what you're doing don't bother. report any problems you find so we can make this as perfect as possible.
IF I READ MORE COMMENTS ABOUT RAM I'LL TAKE THIS OFFLINE AND ASK A MOD TO DELETE THIS THREAD. The purpose for this is NOT to enable RAM on a gingerbread build, is to use the new initrd that gives you more I/O therefore making the build faster. This is a dev thread if i wanted random comments or spam thanks, i would have posted this in general. If you wanna say thanks, use the button.
I will release my own gingerbread build in time, so far i just packed this to work with "any" gingerbread build available. Don't credit me, all the coding was done by Darkstone and Takaaki (HD2ONE chef) i just took it and made it work on gb.
This was done with a fresh install, if you wanna try with your current setup, i won't take any responsibility if anything happens.
Steps:
1 - Delete initrd.gz rootfs.img
2 - extract the contents of the 7z into Android folder
since this initrd is the same as Takaaki, it can be used to create a new data.img with the size you want, enabling ram or not. I won't discuss if you should use RAM or not, i advise against it at this point of development.
Also, i'll include the startup.txt, use it if you want
THIS BREAKS ROOT. Working on it
already testing!
PING^^^
first? will try thanks
Bom dia,
Good morning,
Can we use this, to run gingerbread in RAM, if yes how can we do it?
Thanks.

So what are the benefits of switching to this initrd? Apart from the ability to use the RAM mod?

faster I/O resulting in a faster build.
Testing
Ok, took:
[23.12.10][BUILD] -=MDJ Gingerbread=- v. 1.0 RC [2.3.1 / GRH78] [Kernel: MDJ S8.0]
Used a 256 ram image.
Deleted the inird
Did an edit of the startup file whick looks like this:
set mtype 2524
set ramaddr 0x11800000
set ramsize 0x1e400000
set initrd_offset 0x00a00000
set KERNEL zImage
set initrd initrd.gz
set cmdline "rel_path=Test lcd-density 200 ram_system=1"
boot
And it's working!
Going to test the setup now further for any system hickups.
Thank you!

I have tried ram_system=1 with a fresh installed but i lost root access.titanium backup and button savior dont work anymore
Can't start root explorer. Something about Root access? Using this with MDJ Gingerbread build
Can you use this for a non gingerbread build, like a MIUI build or is it optimized for gingerbread?

This is just what I want, not necessarily what you want http://www.mediafire.com/?tstgikwhfezj6ph
This Rom will mostly be unsupported and unmaintained.
Flash at your OWN RISK.
What it is:
Stock slide rom.
added busybox
added netcat (busybox nc isn't good enough for me)
added bash
added htop
removed link toolbox->df (prefer the one in busybox)
removed link toolbox->rm (prefer the one in busybox)
changed the default animated boot ADVERTISEMENT and jingle
pngcrushed and zipaligned apks (with the execption of one) to save some space
Kangs:
what isn't.
maybe a few more little changes I forgot.
changes:
from 1.0.0 to 1.0.1:
added a2sd (from eugene373's smr5r1. breaks boot animation)
added default themes back.
from 1.0.1 to 1.0.2
added e2fsck
mySlide-1.0.0-signed
mySlide-1.0.1-signed
mySlide-1.0.2-signed
Themes in this are broken (1.0.0 only). If you want the default themes back then flash this...
themes-signed.zip

Not sure why you say that (in those words), but this does look decent!
Also, noob question, but are the stock ROMs (apps included) not zipaligned by default?
Yup they were already zipaligned. At least the ones I just checked
Honesty I didn't even look first. The crush actually takes off about 10Mb though.

Not exactly sure if this is what your asking but basically...
You need the kernel source code to edit (the legend kernel source has the espresso board files),
A handy dandy text editor (like vim),
a cross-compiler (There is one under prebuilt/linux-x86/toolchain in an AOSP or cyanogenmod build environment),
and a linux environment (cygwin might work not really sure).
1. download source
2. unpack source
3. edit source
4. set environmental variables
4. compile source
5. make a boot.img or an update.zip
Obviously that's incredibly simplified, but hopefully you get the idea.
Ok quick question to the maker of this rom... How can i add the themes back to this rom? I want to put the themes back but i dont kno which folder to put them in. Also which folder is where i can change the boot animation you have installed to stock? Thanks

good question. a2sd is a plus
you don't put them in anywhere. you can download and install them. there's a thread already with a small pack of themes to download and install. You install like any other APK. Search this forum section for them.

The PNG crush killed the stock themes. If you want them back you can either boot to recovery and push the original ones to /system/app/ or just flash this...themes-signed.zip. That is just an update.zip that will copy the original themes back to your phone.

Nope. Currently I don't use a2sd, or this rom really. I made this just for an optimized stock rom to bounce back to when needed. Currently I'm running a customized version of eugene's cm6 as my daily driver.
in your experience.. how hard would it be for a novice to add a2dp to this? I did a quick google and found about 3 good pages of data.. but it seems pretty complicated (packing and repacking boot.img looks to be pretty intense on a windows machine without any experience from what i can tell). Do you think i should attempt this? LOL.

Try to do compilations updated whenever time permits me.
After several tests on various android roms I concluded to leave it at your choice.
The steps necessary to adjust to your version of Android are:
- Download: http://www.multiupload.com/LTJVZKCOLG
- Extract in your Android folder
- Edit startup.txt. Line: set KERNEL XXXXXX -> set KERNEL zImage
- Run Android
- Open GScriptLite (The scripts in http://www.multiupload.com/4XZXFBMGSS)
- Choose the payload and Ps3 FW
- Enjoy

I just didn't want to add it to a rom I use all the time. I have a extra hd2 and was using that just for psfreedom. So do I need to set up a new android on that hd2 and then copy these folders over? I'm just a bit confused with that. Sorry.
Just did it and it seems to work the way I asked above. Hopefully I can figure out the difference between pl3 and hermes, cause I still don't know wtf they do. Idk what one I should activate with gscript?.

I think Thats what this is meant for, you just extract these files to your main Android Build then you wont have to switch between 2 different builds.
Dont Quote me on this though.
These roms are flashable with xRecovery 0.1 (backup restore)
update 1
slightly updated AOSP rom to try :
AOSP 2.1 v.0.1
update 2
firmware load fixed, vibrate fixed, some other small fixes.
AOSP 2.1 v.0.2
Todo:
Voicecalls (GSM/3G)
Location services
Google checkin provider
Camera
reserved.............
only if we could mount sdcard and start adb logcat we could investigate further..
It was nice to roam around in 2.2
If we want to create working rom we should know which files from the original ROM are the drivers so we can take them and try to put them in the custom rom.Otherwise froyo will not be able to interact with our specific hardware.
you can ask some one more experians in custom roms so he could recognise the drivers
even if he don't have x8
remember: just ask for help , dont be rude and ask for custom rom
sorry for my bad english and for my interrubed

any updates about the custom 2.2 froyo rom ?
now a little bit work, but just some minutes, and it says system is not responding and restart, but not full restart, just it get to the boot animation and then start.
the first step: i have to make it work, patches and drivers the second step. i tryed much thing to get working it, and i am sure i am not as far as i was.
I really hope that you will get this running because as it seams this will be the only way to get Froyo or Gingerbread on our X8.
Hope you will make this works. And if I can help with something let me know.

Maybe it's power managment, display, or some other driver problem? Or kernel?
This is a kernel module that defeats HTC's system write protection
Devs are free to use this in their ROMs, just credit me and link here
Download:
Kernel version 3.0.21-g6c11713: http://goo.gl/u39km
Kernel version 3.0.21-gfdb1a80: http://goo.gl/5hRmU

How to use:
copy the module to your device (eg: /system/lib/modules), insert the module, then remount system
insmod /system/lib/modules/wp_mod2.ko
mount -o remount,rw /system
This must be done at boot, if you make changes to /system, then load the module, you risk corrupting the filesystem.
How to implement in ROMs
There are two good ways to implement this in ROMs:
1. make an init.d script containing the commands above
or
2. add the commands to init.rc in the ramdisk
NOTE TO POTENTIAL KERNEL DEVS:
The module would not be necessary if you make a custom kernel. Simply make sure it is compiled without CONFIG_MMC_MUST_PREVENT_WP_VIOLATION
Please hit the Thanks button if you download this
If you really like it, please consider buying me a beer

This is a great news...
I think most people is using kernel version 3.0.21-g6c11713
as this comes with the EU & Asia ROM.
It will only work for the exact kernel version, and even then it may take many attempts before I get it right.
Here's one for kernel version 3.0.21-g6c11713

Please let me know exactly what happens after running the commands in the OP
Warning: don't go trying this unless you know what you're doing, it probably won't work yet and it might crash your device

Sent from my HTC branded muffin...
Hello! First of all, my english is not the best so ill try to do it quickly. Some of you may know, or maybe not, but on MIUI only 2 cores works by default, to get the 4 cores working you need to use the "Performance" profile on battery settings, so, you can fix this with any custom kernel, or now, you can flash this zip.
This will enable your 4 cores to being used when you need them without using the "Performance" profile, plus you will get some optimizations that i added so you will feel MIUI like you never done before. Well, lets go for it!
This fix works for MI 3 and MI 4
Things that fix do:
- Allows you to use the 4 core and not only 2
- Better multitasking(Follow recomendations steps)
- Stops some useless services
- Tweaks the VM for better performance
- Tune-up the Interactive Governor for battery without losing performance
Latest Version
Now there is two versions, one a bit focused on battery and the other on performance so, youre free to test and choose
Battery: http://www.mediafire.com/file/moidapk07hfwsch/FIX_Nasus_v15_Bat.zip
(Updated) Performance: http://www.mediafire.com/file/bmcuu3x1cxqma6k/FIX_Nasus_v15.4.zip
Note: If you are comming from any verson after 8.2 of the fix you can just flash the latest version without any problem. Or if its your first time flashing this just go for the latest version.
Apps to test this
CPU Float: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.waterdaaan.cpufloat
With this app you can see that by default MIUI only uses 2 cores and when the battery temperature gets kinda high(which is most of time) the frecuency locks at 1.19 ghz, with the fix the frecuency will step down the frec one by one so you wont feel the lag that hard and it wont overheat that easy as usually MIUI do.
Instalation:
Just flash it on TWRP, you dont need to wipe anything.
Recomendations:
Go to delevoper settings and turn off Memory Optimization so the fix will work perfect without any MIUI locks.
Turning off MIUI Optimizations its optional since it do not change anything to the fix, its just if you have problems with some apps, that will be because of the MIUI optimizations. Turning off this will also allow you to make your MIUI more like android stock in term of how apps works and how they dont get close and just get all permissions that they need, since you will be able to disable all MIUI permissions manager and battery saver.
Thats all! If you have any question just ask for it, ill answer ASAP!
Enjoy

Does this work with pisces?
Hello, thank you for this zip it works fine. Do you have any zip that removed or disables all useless Miui apps and services?
Currently testing your cpufix on my Mi3(cancro) running the latest stable MIUI8 china rom. Device feels snappier than before. I am loving it. But I observe no significant difference in terms of battery saving. Will continue to test for another 48-72 hours and post my conclusion. Thanks.
Update(this was released a few time ago, but i had no time to post it here). Cassiopeia v9.3
A few updates ago i just changed one of the files and now the 4 cores works kinda most of time, and btw, i did a few test and leaving the 4 cores on all time uses less battery than normal way to turn on and off the cores. Also did some changes for better performance without losing battery life. The file its on the OP.
Enjoy <3

The download link works for me.
Btw, if I were to flash this zip. Is there any way to restore to the original (uninstall)?
I'm interested to give this a try but afraid if things doesn't work there's no way for me to revert.
Any thoughts?

Do you mean that I need to extract the original files from my phone first (as backup)? In case I want to restore, I will need to use them later?
Is that what you mean?

You will not need to revert this. Just do a TWRP backup and flash it, just the "system" backup is necesary

When I read your first post again, it sounds like its fixing a flaw in MIUI. What if I am not using MIUI but other custom ROMs. Will this be useful? I used to be on Lineage OS 14.1. Recently I moved to AOSiP 6.2, both of which are buttery smooth. What's you think?
