Hi all,
I made this manual in order to help people like myself to better understand ROM cooking basics.
It was ment to be used for Prophet ROMs, but since it uses HyperCore Kitchen, it can be practicaly used for any WM6 ROM.
Please be free to post your comments and/or suggestions.
NOTE: This manual reffers only to "old" way of ROM cooking (first downgrading to WM5, and then flashing to WM6)

Thanks for your effort, this is a really good guide.
I just wanted to ask is there a difference between ROMs built this way and ROMs that we flash using new Hard/SoftSPL method.
I saw nb2nbf tool, so is it possible to just convert OS.nb file and flash it using new method or is there some more work that needs to be done?

Initiatives like these are giving back the original gaoal of this website, it isn't called "xda-developers" for nothing.
Perhaps someone can make a tutorial for skinning standard OS-parts (commanager, dialer, calculator, etc...) Or how to translate your favorite ROM to your own language?
you can't use this way to create XIP from Shadow's ROM, Crystal V5. ROM or from Korand's ROM.
If someone can make this XIP.. Could anyone share the file...
with that file. I can make a new ROM based on new OS..

Never flashed any of these ROMs you specified - so if their XIPs can't be dumped using Dump XIP tool from the HyperCore Kitchen, than I won't bother with them. Let me add that ROM cooker can also remove RGU files from ROM before posting, making it very difficult for someone to modify it. Then I'll skip such ROM too.
But...
FACTS
- This manual was intended for beginners.
- When you are a beginner in ROM cooking you don't like to be confused, but want it all to be clear to you before you do anything to your expensive device.
- I see that you are using modified Touch ROM, which can be dumped with this method.
- I also use modified Touch ROM, but I will not post it - there is enough good ROMs out there already

Hi All - my first post
Thanks for this Phnikola, I'm brand new to all this (smartphone) stuff and need a place to start. Looks good so far.
My TC500 never was in the shops, has no support and no official upgrade path (hmmm...) but there are a few cunning points concerning SIP and home landline "awareness" in the original ROM I'd like to take with me up into WM6.1 (got Cloudyfa's Shadow 2.0 TE ready to go).
Any1 have any good advice for me?

Yes it does, but you don't have to cook your own ROM. Just wonder around a bit on this forum and pick a ROM that suits you.

believe me..if one just read this guise patiently.. he won't find any need for pictures...
I was complete beginner.. and this really helped me in extracting 2 ROMS and cooking a customized taking best from boths.

Hi, i got a dutch Iolite and right now i am trying to find out how to swap to an english ROM. But somehow it is quite difficult to find kind of a step-by-step explanation in this board.
I guess before trying any kind of flashing action i should first dump the ROM I have installed, to go back in any case.
So i downloaded those ITSutils but procread just crashes with a 'RAPI.dll was not found" error. Well, i will check for that later in the board, but in general... What should i do to dump the ROM?
I am supposed to plug it to a pc via usb? If so, using which drivers? Do i need to open that windows mobile cd i got with the phone?
Because if i would not need it, i would keep it closed until I decided wether to keep the phone (in english) or to sell it again when it has to stay in dutch.
Thanks for any help, because I really did not find what i was looking for within the wiki or that board so far. thanks
I find this topic very confusung too! :-/
For maybe being of help for other people:
- the RAPI.dll not found error is gone, when Active Sync 4.5 is installed at the host-computer, then there are also no further drivers needed
- smartphone has to be attached via usb in the activesync mode

The real interresting question here must be; how to backup / dump my existing ROM to .nbh?
That way it wouldent be so scary to try the different custom roms here, and allso it would be very easy to share our ROM's.
Dump it to RAW, then use "Visual EviusKitchen" - ExtraButtons - Raw2NBH

Let me be the first one to post something usefull in this thread...
rite now i have flased the New wm 6.5 ROM build 21202 shared by helgee...First of all thanks to Helgee for uploading the ROM
This is more like a final product in WM 6.5 version but as usual got a few bugs in it....let me just summarise a few of them below...
1)There are multiple task manager icons ...almost 4 to 5 icons...
2)When you open contacts and scroll through the contacts its appears everything is overlapped ..ie contacts are overlapped and you cannot read them out...
I have not played with it enough to find anymore bugs in it...
the good thing is that this rom is quite fast for the last 40 mins i have been using...good that it has a better dialer which looks good...it doesnt have the honey comb ...
and in my opinion i have tried all the wm 6.5 ROM released here ...i feel ankit's 6.5 build 21l76 is the best that i have used so far.....no offense to anyone ...its just my point of view..
And ppl please stop reserving threads...start posting issues with WM 6.5 you face....Just a request...

Hi guys! will it not be better to post issues about specific rom in the thread itself.? Bcoz mixing here talking about all wm6.5 roms will b quite a mess. Like the Russian helgis rom.If he has to find some feedback he will visit this thread. Isnt that a waste of time.Also if I find a feedback or issue or request I will post in his thread.So openning another thread would mean paralysing the original thread.No excitement for rom makers.Also if they have to communicate , will they post here?.I dont think so.

Hi htc3400, I think that this bug is related to BackUp. I use PimBackup or Outlook using ActiveSync. I have this bug no.

But why is that u always flash from ur sd card, how is it actually, I mean is it more easy than flashing with active sync.?Someday u must share how to flash from sd. CRC error in file FLASH_orig.bin. Think we dont need this. And other problem - no TOOLS folder. This is much worser.

No PRB not work with acer nk.exe..Bepe and team is working on that, this is what I am told.But in the mean time we use Conventional one and extremely good EXTReloc tool.

I know how but, its not very user friendly and you really need to have ext realloc knowledge and xip, i might release a cooking guide but i dont know yet, some russian guys are working on a visual kitchen for the acer s200 so lets see what comes first.

So it means that you cook and build your own Roms with this Kitchen, right?
I assume that you extract the latest HTC HD2 Custom-Roms and then you try whether they are working on an Acer S200 or not, if I´m not mistaken cause many HD2 modifications, like transparent Clock, 1 percent HTC Battery bar or Max Manila 2.5 etc. are also working on my Acer. (Logically it´s simply the HD2 Manilla 2.5 version...)

Yes i dumped the 1.43 leo rom and used all the necessary packages from OEM to make manila 2.5 work on our acer s200, i cant upload my rom yet its still in beta stages only my beta testers can use it at this moment, but il release it by the end of december maybe.

Ask hdubli i think he has one, idk if hes planing on releasing it tho, but you can ask him =]
E200 i have the decompiler and recompiler, tested a vanilla rom already, but as of now there is no way to flash rom from sd or from boot loader.. so am waiting for that
