Why can't I flash a new rom to my vibrant? - Vibrant Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have read through so many different tutorials and they are all very similar, but my phone stops the time after it starts to open the new rom.zip file. I have the newest clockwork mod installed but I still get the same problem. I have tried atleast ten different roms and always get the same problem. I have made two backups of my phone that were made before I tried to flash different roms, those go just fine but I always have the freezing problem when it tries open the .zip file for the the rom. Any help will be greatly appreciated and thank you.

So you have ROM manager installed from the market you say correct? And you are rooted as well right?
Once you open ROM mamager, I hope you're not trying to install from where it says "Install new ROM" (or something like that), cause that's not where you do it.
You have to click where it says "Flash clock work recovery" first, select your phone, then reboot into recovery, Install packages (most likely twice), then you'll be in CWR with green menu. Scroll to "Install from .zip">Choose zip> and finally "Yes" to flash your ROM.
Now, I'm just assuming this is what happened....next time try and to give more detail on what steps you took.

Thanks for your help, this what I did. Rebooted into recovery, then choose zip from sd card, choose the .zip file, it loads into the install screen, says finding packages, opening packages, installing packages. Then that's it. The status bar st the bottom does not move, avd I get nowhere until I just have to pull out the battery and reboot. I have my device rootes with the z4 app, I did that oclf install thing on that app. This phone is on stock everything I believe. What an I doing wrong?
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App

I'm not sure with z4 root..never used it - I've always stuck with 2e...
What ROM are you trying to install? Is that ROM known to work fine with other devices? Sounds like it's not finding certain files/packages to start the installation process. I've had the same issue happen to me in the past as well.
My suggestions:
Try uninstalling ROM manager, re-downloaded it, re-install it, and re-flash CWR again.
Or, re-download the ROM you're trying to install, and see if maybe it was a bad zip.

or go to the bottom of Rom Manager and select a version lower than the newest one and reboot into recovery. I had to do that with version 2.5.1.2. I had to step down to v 2.5.1.1 to go into recovery.

I know I am on the jdf firmware and android 2.1 update 1. I just tried both of those suggestions, once I reinstalled rom manager I went to a lower version, same problem. Should I un root my vibrant and use adifferent method? Is other methods that are.as easy to root my vibrant as the z4 app or does it not even matter as long as it is rooted? I have tried to flash many different legit roms and same thing. Is it possible that something in busybox or oclf is causing this? Thanks for your advice so far. I also have the black evo bar up top from metamorph, could this be causing the problems
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App

you should definately try to disable the z4 root and then root it with the one-click root program. Also, if you have oclf enabled, it would be best to disable it.
oh and how long does the bar freeze for? if its less than a minute, give it some time. It usually takes about 5 min. to flash a new rom for me, it may be longer for you.

hopefully that helps

[Q] help with installs!!!

I have a fascinate now, I had an eris then an incredible. Anyway, I rooted my eris and my incredible and flashed many roms with much luck. This phone is a little difficult. I can root easily but installing is difficult. I can't install anything from the sd card. I have tried it two different ways in Rom manager (direct install and booting into recovery) If i hold the vol keys and power, unless i apply the update, it wont go to clockwork. It is actually on the stock recovery. Anyway, I just can't figure out how to install anything on this phone from the sd card. I get to the install screen, it finds and opens the packages, but the freezes on the install. I'm terribly annoyed as it is with this phone. I used google all the time, now I'm using a quick search app. ADW launcher the drawer disappears randomly, and I just don't like launcher. So anyway, I can't install anything from sd, so therefore I can't get google search working or setcpu, and cant flash a diff ROM. I must be doing something wrong. Please help!!!

ClockWorks on the Fascinate does not overwrite the stock recovery.
In order to get into CWM, you must run update.zip *every* time you want to get into CWM. This is not likely to change any time soon.
Once in CWM, the back key is the "select" key and the volume up/down are the up/down keys.
First thing is first: i you have rooted, boot into stock recovery, apply update.zip to get into CWM recovery and backup your device.
Then play.
yeah i get that.. after the backup and even wipe data and cache it gets stuck at the install part. I have titanium and always nand but when I install the zip from the sd card it finds the package and opens the package, but then always freezes on the installing the package part. That's where I'm having issues

Having come from the Eris myself, I know your pain. I will suggest, if you attempt to install anything, and I mean **anything** related to voodoo, not only should you back up/nandroid first, but you should probably go ahead and familiarize yourself with Odin and recovery steps. Also, you cannot be patient enough, sometimes takes up to 10 min + for installs/disables. I am in my 2nd 2-day recovery process from removing Voodoo, and I frankly suggest avoiding it altogether.
In Rom Manager (clockwork), did you click on FLash ClockworkMod Recovery and select the Fascinate? If so, and still hanging, I would recommend uninstalling/reinstalling clockwork as a next step. Best of luck!

i think omj is going to change his op on af...ill copy that over when he does
When I get in Odin and select CWMRecovery_DJ05_DL09.tar.md5, it fails.
I did not touch any settings in Odin, just clicked PDA and selected that file.
Edit: Redownloaded that file and got it to work. I am now having an issue when applying update.zip... it starts but then comes up with an exclamation point inside of a triangle and the little Android guy... phone reboots fine.
Did you get this solved? Check out the thread at AF I had the same problem

ok so i havent been able to find a full answer..but does this leave the device in DI01 or 05 or 09?
just by looking at the files it seems as if it goes from 05 to 09 but once in about phone>build number it reads : DI01
so im just looking for a little clarification here..just rooted my Facinate minutes ago so im still stuck in the whole mindset of the Incredible.
I tried this. Have EA28. Not sure how. Didn't install. Saw install screen on phone last night and hit cancel.
Anyway, Ran Odin, CWMRecovery_DJ05_DL09.tar.md5, reboot, blue text, apply sdcard:update.zip, switched to red text, install zip from sd card, choose zip from sd card, su-2.3.6.1+busybox1.19.zip, choose zip from sd card, DJ05_DL09_kernel.zip (plain kernel due to dl09), ran titanium backup, could not acquire root priv.
Startup screen has sound, but not animation anymore. Installed superuser and it shows titanium backup under "allow". When I run TB, I get the error screen and below in another small screen says, "Titanium Backup has been granted superuser permissions". But can't get anywhere to backup apps. Says Root Access: Failed.
ideas?
Another thing that confused me was the red cwm says voodoo lagfix recovery v2.5.1.x. I thought you weren't supposed to use any voodoo for DL30? Not that I've made it that far due to titanium backup issue, but....
Can anyone confirm whether or not this to sure does or doesn't work with ea28? My wife updated he phone and now she wants it rooted.
Edit this does work for EA28. Everything went smoothly. Thanks nitsuj.

EA28 going to DL09?
Hello..
I am just getting around to rooting my fascinate now. I have EA28. From the instructions, it appears you are going back to DL09. Is that correct? What is the significance of that? Should I care?
Thanks in advance!
This thread is old and should be deprecated. The directions still work, but you need to use the Odin package of ClockworkMod in this thread (it's the very first item linked) instead of the md5 file (DL05_DJ09) above.
However, if you're going custom the thing you should *really* do is Odin in one of the full-Froyo packages. This will include both root and recovery.

Thanks S44. My goal is to go froyo, but I need to be rooted first in order to do that.
I have been reading all the threads but many of them are very long. The DL30 thread is over 50 pages long.
So should I:
1) follow the instructions in this thread but use the new ClockworkMod then
2) update to froyo.
What is the most current thread for updating to froyo on the fascinate while after I am rooted?
Appreciate it.

Actually, no you don't. Download mode is magic. You *do* need to be rooted to back up apps with Titanium, if you want to do that. In that case, follow the directions above (with the new recovery). Then back up your user apps + app data.
Whether or not you do this, you should move to Froyo with a full-Odin package. Download the ROM you want (either Nameless, Super Clean, or whatever) in zip form to your SD card. Follow the directions here (under "Most Thorough Method of Fixing Every Problem You Might Have") using the first two files here and the recovery I mentioned in my previous post. Yes, this is sort of overkill, but better to avoid stuff like corrupted dbdata from the beginning and not have to fix it later.
You might want to wait a day or so because it looks like jt is finally fixing up Clockwork.
EDIT: I read almost all of the 52 pages of the DL30 thread to realize that DL30 is out of date . I guess Its going to be EB01 or Superclean. Do you know if Superclean has the audio out via USB working for the docks?
I have some questions in regards to picking ROMs:
I am a little confused in where to find the latest versions. For example in the "most thorough me..." thread, there is a link to super clean version form 3/30/2011 yet wiki has super clean from last year. Where can I look at all the ROMs and descriptions?
Which froyo ROM would you recommend? I love Google's stock froyo, but I also want to use the fascinate's USB audio out on the car and desktop dock. I also would like to wifi tether.
Thanks again!
This post had a link to download ODIN but it was removed. Could you please provide that link again. It also had a link to "Samsung Drivers", don't I need that too?
I am going to take a shot at following the ""Most Thorough Method..." steps tomorrow morning and install superclean on my Facinate. Quick Q: In step one, it simply says to ODIN EB01. I can just do this without being rooted?
Also, you said jt is fixing up clockwork. What do you mean by this, what exactly does not work?
I know these are noob questions, but I am just starting out with this.
Thanks
Driver links are here. Odin is here.
Yes, download mode lets you Odin in complete firmware packages without root.
Most people are using Super Clean, so that has the most support (and themes), but there are some odd issues floating around with it. My guess is that a lot of those issues have to do with not cleaning up in the super-thorough way I'm suggesting, and with the permissions bug after flashing a theme (below). There's also navendrob's EC10-based "Nameless" ROM, and ahmgsk's DL30-based "TrulyFascinating" ROM. Nameless is good but he's about to drop a version 4 with a lot of fixes, so you might wait a day or so for that. TrulyFascinating seemed to be pretty good (heavily stability-tested), but he hasn't updated it in a while (busy with more recent Epic leaks, I guess). You might try running it with one of the state-of-the-art EC10 Voodoo kernels.
There are a couple of Clockwork bugs, but the one causing the most current problems is that the old one couldn't fix permissions properly. This causes issues after making a change to the /system after the initial ROM flash, generally when you flash a theme on top of it. The new one I linked above *can* fix permissions, but still requires you to manually mount /dbdata beforehand (actually, go to the "mounts and storage" submenu and make sure /system /dbdata and /data are all mounted -- that is, the option referring to them says "unmount", which will happen when they're mounted -- before you go to the "advanced" submenu and run the fix permissions script). The new new one coming soon will just fix it without a problem, and do other stuff too.
Once again thanks. I have everything I need....or so I thought.
I restored my phone to factory, loaded the drivers, fired up ODIN and added the PDA and PIT. I hit start.... nothing happens. "All threads complete, succeed 0 / failed 0"
Looks like I am missing something. Do I need to somehow tell ODIN where the phone is? I don't see a way to do that.
PS in step 4 its states "ODIN the CWM Recovery package ROM from this post". Does CWM bin file go into PDA or phone in ODIN?
I one again apologize for my noobiness.
The Clockwork step comes after you do the full package and boot with that.
Make sure you have Odin open *before* you connect the phone in download mode.

Anyone care to help out a n00biE?

So, Where do I begin? I, like everyone else was upset about not getting ota 2.2 for the fascinate. So i decided to go through the whole rooting thing and used odin to get a sc 2.2 rom, But it wasn't running so smoothly, so I tried to put a new rom on using rom manager...Now heres the problem, I did something wrong in recovery manager and now I can boot the phone up, into my 2.2 rom still, but I cant do anything because it repeatedly comes up with the messages that you get when a program crashes(Force close button)
So basically I need a way to get back to any working ROM (stock is fine too), which doesn't need access to the phone os. I can provide any other details necessary to fix he problem.
Please help me..
I will donate to whoever can get me working again!

Follow that link and do some reading there. Basically, it takes you through the process of using a program called Odin to completely flash a new, working ROM. It also has the most recent release of the SuperClean ROM which can also be found in the Fascinate Development section here.

Well, it seems that you know how to use Odin (download mode, use the PDA button), what you probably didn't know was NOT to use ROM manager. It only works with the newest CWM, which does not work on our phones. And that doesn't matter b/c all of the roms for our phones are made to work with CWM Red (2.x, not 3.x).
So after you flash the new ROM (and the new modem) using ODIN, you can then select different kernels that you may want to use with that rom.
I've been using ROM manager pretty successfully. I just simply haven't upgraded CWM to 3.x

Personally ide stay away from rom manager. ive heard nothing but bad things.. but to fix your mess ull need to odin like stated above.. but u dont have to flash the whole rom on odin.. just find a whole rom/radio/kernal package, use odin to flash clockwork 2.5 and you should b able to book into clockwork at that point and just flast the rom following the directions in the noob post under the dev section.. good luck
Thanks for the help guys! I originally got into this mess by trying to flash to JT1134's AOSP, uhmm here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=919864
and i read on that post (I think) that you cant use odin for that. Which makes sense as it isnt the same ".tar.md5" that my 2.2 sc rom was...How would I go about doing this, without rom manager?
Easiest way I can think of would be to use Odin for one of the SuperClean ROM's just to get your phone working as easy as possible.
Then, once it's functioning again, download the ROM and kernel zips(if you haven't already) and copy the zip file for the AOSP ROM you want along with the kernel. You can copy them to the root of the sdcard so they would be easiest to find in the coming steps. Also, remember the names so you can find them later.
Then pull up the shut down menu on the phone(by holding the power button) and choose the recovery option.
You should be in Clockword Mod Recovery at this point. You'll want to clear out the SuperClean ROM, so run through both the "wipe data" and "wipe cache" options in the menu. Run through those twice just for good measure.
Now scroll down and select install zip from sd card.
Next, select choose zip to install.
Find the zip file for the ROM, and select it. Then select the only Yes option on the list.
Repeat the last step for the kernel's zip file.
Press menu to get back to the main menu, and select reboot system now.
Wait out the reboot(it may take SEVERAL minutes this first time).
Enjoy AOSP!

I dont have that option when i hold the power button, i usually get into recovery through rom manager...This shouldn't make a difference right?
I have tried that when i do it, it starts to run the code and Aborts. The rull message is
"Amend scripting (update-script) is no longer supported.
Amend scripting was deprecated by google in Android 1.5.
It was necessary to remove it when upgrading to the ClockworkMod 3.0 Gingerbread based recovery. Please switch to Edify scripting (updater-script and update-binary) to create working update zip packages.
Installation aborted"
This probably spells out exactly what my problem is.....but i dont understand it...lol
I think I see the issue. Do you have CWM 3.x on your phone? I don't believe that works with the Fascinate. Head to this link:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=942021
And download the .tar file in the first post and use Odin to flash the correct recovery. Then, after that, hold the power button and both volume buttons(up and down) which will force you into the new recovery mode, which should be red. From there, you should be able to go forward with the flashing of your AOSP ROM and kernel.
Worked perfectly!!! This rom is Stellar!
Fantastic! I'm so glad you're back up and running!

[Q] Difficulty changing ROMs

For the record, I searched several times, but did not find an answer that seemed to fit this question. Also, I hope this isn't a ridiculous noob question.
A little background. I have/had a D1 which I rooted and changed ROMs on many times. It was easy. I either used a new .zip file or ROM Manager. I now have a Fascinate that I tried to root with SuperOneClickRoot, but it didn't seem to work as none of the 'root-only' apps would work. I then tried using Odin, but still had the same problem. I successfully used Odin to return to stock, but of course that was annoying and painful. Frustration got the best of me, and I tried again with Odin and was successful. I ran Odin, got to recovery, installed and ran a SuperClean ROM using the .zip file for many days.
Here's where the trouble begins. I decided to try a different ROM, so I rebooted into recovery, backed up my current ROM (or so I thought), and tried to load another .zip ROM. The first one would not load correctly, so I tried another, and then one more. I wiped the data and the cache before each try. None of them worked, so I thought, OK forget this, I'll go back to my backup and stick with it. NO BACKUP (for this phone) was listed under Backup or Advanced Backup. So, now I'm really stuck, because the only ROM I can get to work at all is Kaoscinate (sp?), but it will NOT work with 'root only' apps, like Titanium Backup'. I read a good bit on xda and tried to change with Odin, but I still had no real luck. I was able to get a SuperDark ROM to work, but it is on Android 2.1 and the 'root only' apps still do not work on it. I'm afraid to try another ROM change because of the issues I've had before. I want to go back to the SuperClean ROM. My phone is very important as it's my business line, so monkeying around with this trial and error is taking too long and making me very uncomfortable.
I can easily get to recovery, wipe data &/or cache, and install a new .zip, but will it boot or work for me? I believe the answer is no, so what am I doing wrong?
Will I have to go through Odin to restore to stock and then REDO the Odin root and go to a ROM that way? That is time-consuming and my confidence is low in that method working to get the ROM I want.
Is there some kind of fix for the 'root only' programs to be able to see that I AM rooted? I tried updating Busybox using Titanium, but that didn't do the trick. Plus, this time, I can't even get Titanium to open, because it says I'm not rooted.
Thanks in advance.

If it's that important, and you'd like to avoid any trial and error, simply odin your preference of ED01 roms here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1048380
To test root, simply open terminal emulator (free in market) and type "su" (no parentheses). It will notify you of a superuser request.
find an odin package for the baseband you want like EB01, EC01, ED01, etc (I use an all in one complete deodexed and debloated EB01 package myself) and the newest CWM 3. Odin them both, boot straight into cwm, wipe data/cache/dalvik, install the .zip rom of your choice from sd card and reboot phone. Should work fine, its the way I've done it and I've had few if any problems
edit: most roms like SuperClean, Evil, ComRom, etc are already rooted so there's no need to do anything special to gain root. the hardest part is flashing it correctly
You guys are awesome! Thanks!
If it's that important, and you'd like to avoid any trial and error, simply odin your preference of ED01 roms here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1048380
^^This one worked great for me. I seem to have the Samsung things I like (their visual voice mail, their video player, etc.) without the other bloatware.
I do have one more question. You said 'flashing the ROM correctly'. Before, with my D1, that simply meant using RM to 'Load Custom ROM' or rebooting into recovery mode and installing another .zip file. That has not seemed to work on this phone. What is the correct way to load another ROM on these phones.
Again, thanks for the help!!

Do not use ROM manager at all for anything on the fascinate.
The correct way to flash on fascinate: Download ROM .zip file and place on the root directory or your sd card. Boot into CWM and wipe data/cache/ dalvik cache (dalvik is under advanced) choose install zip from sd card. Install and reboot. First reboot will take 5-10 minutes, so be patient.
Hope this helps.

[Q] Please help me figure out why my home launcher(s) keeps starting itself over--?!!

I'm begging for someone to help me figure out what's going on with my Vibrant...but first, I've got to start out by admitting that I'm a total noob at this stuff--as much as I TRY to read/learn, I just don't seem to "get" it...I just wanted to make sure to make that clear before I tried explaining what my phone's been doing.
Okay, so, I updated to 2.2 the day it came out (months ago) & I'm rooted...(that's about as far as I've had the guts to go with it--I've never flashed a ROM or do anything else, simply because I was afraid I'd screw something up)...anyways, lately (for probably about 3-4 weeks now) my phone has dramatically slowed down, and now my home launchers (I've tried LPP, ADW, GO, & of course, the stock one) & some of my settings (mainly, the tones on my alarm clock & my ring tones) all keep resetting; my home screen will go blank and it takes several seconds to restart again...
I've done factory reset at least twice, I've uninstalled/reinstalled all the home launchers--even tried uninstalling all the other ones & just using the stock one...keeps happening. I've tried switching out my SD card--(I've got a brand new one in there now)--still nothing...I'm not sure what else I need to do--?
Could anybody PLEASE help me out before I throw my phone out the window--??!! ... THANK YOU!!!
I'd flash a new ROM. Don't be scared. Good luck!
Are you using a task killer? You might be inadvertently killing your launcher
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
it's being killed. Either from a task manager (boo) or more likely it's just ran out of memory. Are you playing pretty heavy games? Plants vs Zombies makes my ADW EX reset, also the other game from that developer... it does too.
Could just be an app that is a hog. Any certain apps you run often when it happens? Notice any certain apps draining the battery? You could try installing watchdog.. it looks for apps that are using a lot of memory.
if you question certain apps, you could uninstall and see.
when i was on stock 2.2 my notification volume reset itself from full to about half everytime i got a text (or sent 1)
hasnt on any custom rom iv'e been on
id odin back to stock and clear out some memory
I'd flash over CM7. The battery drain issue JUST got solved (nightly 39) so it's battery is on par with 2.2 stock now (or better!). Broken GPS but that's the only bug.
Performance is 3-4 TIMES faster in EVERYTHING. Yes....that's TIMES. It feels like an entirely new phone. Also, it looks much better than anything you'll see from stock....with many customization options for theme. Try it.
Flashing now is SUPER easy. I literally can flash CM7 on your phone in about 2 minutes (provided I download it before).
Simply go on Market and get ROM Manager
Flash Clockwork Recovery from ROM MANAGER.
Download latest CM7
Put CM7 file on phone memory
Reboot into clockwork recovery
Install CM7 from clockwork
Wait till phone boots.
It can be useful to make a backup from Clockwork before you flash so if u **** up, you can go back. No harm done.
I had originally downloaded advanced task killer--but I uninstalled it months ago; I've also uninstalled anything that seemed to be eating up memory...but, it does seem to stay low anyways; I don't have anything that runs in the background, however, that I haven't always had running back when it was working okay--? I'm not sure what I'm missing though...
And, yes--I'm SUCH a chicken about flashing another ROM, simply because everything I've read on here has pretty much "scared" me out of trying it! I've downloaded ROM manager a few months ago, but (and I don't remember exactly which part I had the issue with) I tried to make a nandroid & it wouldn't let me...so I pretty much gave up--but, now that I'm having these problems, I may go back & read everything & (hopefully) try it all again...so, in other words, Stay Tuned--(in case I need some help! haha!)...
Don't be scared.
Nandroid backups are made in recovery. Use ROM manager to flash recovery. In recovery after reinstalling packages and getting green or red recovery use the backup and restore option to create ur back up (that's ur nandroid). This flashing situation is really easy if you read. These are good guys here if you need help they will be more than willing to help you. Good luck!
Task killers are garbage and down with @akaskriller

Yes just post questions if needed. The procedure like I said is really simply and the benefits are huge. But do read some stuff, it's always good to know it
Okaaaaaay...so, I'm just now (yes, a month and a half later) getting some time to sit down and attempt to "fix" my phone... I ODIN'ed back to stock 2.1--but now, I can't get root...?! I've copied update files from XDA into my phone, which, I'm assuming I've done correctly...??--(I told y'all I was a noob)...then, did the whole push the volume keys + power button maneuver--but when I tried to re-install packages, it tells me it's not there or they can't be opened...I've tried re-doing all this MANY times today without any luck...
Now, originally I had used SuperOne Click to get root--but that was after I had updated to 2.2...but everything I've looked at for to get root on 2.1, I don't see anything mentioned about using SuperOne Click...? Help me out guys--I'm getting crossed-eyed over here...
Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU

Here's how to flash.
1. ODIN (You've done that already).
2. Use SuperOneClick to root the phone (read here how to use it) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=803682. You need Development enabled on the phone and plugged to your computer to do it. READ that topic I listed carefully if you are confused on how to root it.
3. Install ROM Manager from the Market, then flash Clockwork Recovery (select Vibrant (MTD) for Clockwork version). Now you are free to flash ROMs.
4. If flashing to CM7, download the latest nightly
(http://cm-nightlies.appspot.com/?device=vibrantmtd), put that on your phone via the USB cable. Put it on the phone memory, not on ur external SD card.
5. Reboot into recovery (Hold Power + Volume up + Volume down as you reboot the phone). Select re-install packages twice. Now that will get you into Clockwork recovery mod if you did step 3.
6. Select Install from zip card, find the CM7 ROM file you put on your phone and flash it. Wait till done.
7. Reboot phone, you now have CM7. Boot it up and let it sit for 5 minutes (do not touch it, its doing setup stuff).
8. Open the program ROM Manager (its installed by default). For Recovery, select Vibrant MTD 3.0x I think. Then select Download ROM, find the Google Apps package.
9. After downloading the Google Apps package, install it. You can do it straight from ROM Manager, it will ask you for root and then reboot into recovery and do it automatically.
10. You are done, you can now restore apps or set the phone how you like for usage.
OPTIONALLY you can install additional kernels and modems for better battery/coverage. The recommended modem is KB5 for CM7.1 as for kernel, if you want to upgrade, I'd recommend the latest Glitch CM7 kernel beta (fully stable).
NOTE, your GPS likely will not work in CM7. Be ready for that if you go this way.
Wow, seriously--Thaaaank You x110! I'll let you know how it goes!

Here is the udate.zip to root:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=723479
(click the QR code and download, thats slick)
That needs to be placed on the internal SD, NOT in any folder, just sitting out on it's own. Open any file manager and make sure its there. At this point find the ROM you eventually wanna flash and place it on the internal SD as well. I like to make a folder named "ROM" and put all my ROM's in there.
After you ODIN when you boot into recovery it should be blue. SWEET!
- Reinstall Packages(do this until you get green recovery)
- apply update zip(do this in green recovery)
- Now flash the ROM you have already placed onto the internal SD. It is important to only flash once you get the green recovery.
Good luck!
okay, for either one of the ways...do i want debugging on or off--? (i'm assuming that "matters"--?)
HA! Nevermind... 0
