I found and put the leaked version of 2.1 on my droid eris and want to root my phone so I can put KaosFroyo 2.2 v39 on it. Is there anyway that this can be done? I jumped the gun and put the leaked 2.1 not knowing about rooting my phone.
Can anyone help? I want to be able to use different Roms.
Look for the One Click Root thread in the Android Development Section. It may be several pages back.

will do thanks!
Yup, root is completely universal for the eris now. The devs here are some of the best on xda!

Yes, its good to know that you are rooted and you have joined the community. I suggest you try froshedyo, tazzfroyo, or kaosfroyo rims. There are others, but these are my personal fave. I would wait untill maps releases v40.

So, wanted to know if there is a leaked Froyo update/Rom for the North American Vibrants? Most of the Froyo updates I have found seem to be for the i9000 model and not the t959 model! I would like the offical update but God only knows when thats going to come out! Im running Rooted Stock Rom with JI6 update and OCLF too. Sorry if this question has been asked a million times before. Any help would be great.thanks a million!

Trying to stay as close a to stock Rom as possible. Looking for a very basic froyo update/Rom as possible and would be easy to switch back to stock without to much trouble. Come to think of it.any One Click Froyo updates out there for the Vibrant T959 yet? Thanks again!

Don't know how new or experienced you are with flashing ROMs. If you're new, you will want to check out:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=771111
and
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=732458
to help you come up to speed on your options and overall approaches.
Remember, if you flash from 2.2 back to 2.1 (which is really the only "official" stock available at the moment) you will need to flash an entire ROM or Kernal. Just performing a nandroid recovery won't work and will softbrick your phone (requiring you to use ODIN to fix it).
There are about 4 or 5 2.2-based ROMS in the Developers section. Check one or more of them out.
If you are cautious, then you might want to avoid the Overclocked, Undervolted, or Lagfix kernels for the time being.
And one last thought. Some of the ROMs will not work with OCLF. So, be sure to search their respective threads. Personally, I've tried Onyx and Axura and have found that both work great without a lagfix applied and have pretty good battery life. But YMMV, so read the thread and flash away!
Thanks for all your help guys

Just want to give you this wiki as well. http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/index.php?title=Samsung_Galaxy_S_SGH-T959
Based on my experiences, im gonna reccomend watching some odin videos on youtube.
Ive found odin to be my favorite way to flash any rom, but rom manager can be nice as well

Watch the videos anyway because, god forbid, if anything goes wrong, you need odin to revert back to stock and try again.
Anyone have a direct download link to the unoffical tmobile froyo 2.2 leak update/Rom? And is there anyway to install it without a pc.my internet is down at the moment. Thanks
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
there's a flashable version posted somewhere in the development section.
also if you flash that version.. u might need to install busybox available in market.
i couldn't go to recovery when i flashed it, at least in my case.
2am zombie mode, too lazy to dig up the link for you.
later
Ok, so the unoffical tmobile froyo Rom seems to have been removed. Clicked on the link but not showing a download link now. If its still there what page is it on?
Read something about not being supported by xda devs anymore.whats up with that? Can someone please post a direct download link please! Thanks a million!

Yeah i just checked all the links were removed. Eugene373 is not supporting xda no more so he dont have nothing of anything he does here anymore. There all custom Roms of the based on the Unofficial Froyo though. The froyos last letters are JK2. I'll tell you there is are roms called: Obsidian, Onyx, Axura, AOSPish Froyo and Macnut.

I used the search and couldn't find a clear answer to my question which is why I decided to ask. If the vibrant is updated to official 2.2 is it safe to just use odin to go back to official 2.1 or not? I am wondering this because I'm thinking of getting an extra vibrant of of ebay but most have already been updated to 2.2 which requires a different method to achieve root access and since I have all the necessary files for rooting and moding from 2.1 I just wanted to know.

i dont see why not...
Yes, you can odin back to stock from any ver. That is actually what everyone does when they run into trouble in order to start over and fresh. Also, you can easily root 2.2 now, you don't have to waste 15-20 min.

I've been searching threads for rooting 2.2 but haven't found one as simple as the update.zip file I used to root my vibrant and family members vibrants as well. Could you at least give me the name of the app or link to the thread you are referring to? That would be very much appreciated. But if I do get a used phone I think using Odin to get back to ji6 at least would be a good thing to do anyway since you never know what could have been done to the phone by prior users. I haven't searched for odin files for 2.2, but if they are available and rooting it is as simple as you say I guess that would be an option as well.

If it has been installed than the phone is most likely rooted already.

Hi yall, so I just found out that verizon is pushing out an official froyo build ota on the 21st, tomorrow. But the thing is, My phone is already running under DL30 rom rooted and prefering not to install the new update. Not that I don't want to experience a new froyo, it's just because I'm too lazy to go back all the way to 2.1 then de-root the phone........ ehhhhhh........ Now my question is, is there a way for me to disable the automatic update? p.s.Last time when verizon pushed out an update ota, my phone would just constantly turn on and off) Thank you guys!
If you're on DL30 I doubt you'd be able to receive the ota even if you wanted to.
And, in the future, please post your questions in the Q&A section.

are there any differences between the "official" froyo and the froyo we have all been using previously (I do know it has been mes source..just wondering if its worth moving to the official upgrade).
Thanks.
Adryn has posted a debinged version of the new ed01 official release in the dev section.

Meh, from what I have tested for adryn and others the mes source stuff handles the same, at least kernel wise. The rom ec01 leak seemed to run pretty well, I'm fixing to flash ED01 and try it

Just purchased my 1st Android phone and am getting used to everything. Without sounding like a broken record and having spent some time on the forum, can I please be directed to or have answered how to root an Atrix 4.1.83 v2.2.2 without flashing back?
Does it make sense to wait for Gingerbread to come out or does it make sense to unlock the boot now?
Any input greatly appreciated.

Look for Gingerbreak in dev section to root.
I would unlock and flash Kenneth Penn's 4.5.91. The Moto release in SOAK will stop you flashing back if you want to.
Beamed from WinBorg 4G via XDA Premium
If you wait and get an update from Motorola and you have your artix rooted on 2.2. How should one proceed? Does one just update and then re-root after that?
Thanks for the info. I wasn't sure if I HAD to flash back in order to gain root. As much as I don't like the motoblur bloat, a few items are handy. Any ROMs to look at?

When I was running 1.83, I used a method from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1138204
Check out the third post in that thread. You'll need ADB to get it done, but if you don't have ADB installed you may as well do that.
ROM-wise, I'm using CherryBlur, which is a modified version of the latest 2.3.4 ROM: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1160649
And I think it's great. The original HKTW 2.3.4 beta leak had a lot of bugs, many of which have been corrected by community updates and hacks, but Kenneth's 2.3.4 seems to be pretty clean so far. As to whether it's worth waiting for the official release, well... I think it's worth modding your phone just for kicks, and to gain a better understanding of how it works.
Thanks Obscene! Now all I have to do is find the time. In theory; to get bothyour methods done - how long should I expect barring no issues?

I have the Fascinate and I love it.
But for the last few days I have tried many different roots, all work until I want to go into clockwork. What are the correct steps from step one to loading clockwork and load a rom, preferably miui. I had the og droid and was great at booting and loading rom's but the fascinate is throwing me for a loop.
Soo with that said I would like to make a request for anyone willing to do it, please show/tell me how to do this. I have seen posts on new roms, but not rooting updates and etc.
