Video Tutorial:Odin, root access, flash rom. For Noobs - Vibrant Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi there, I was on youtube the other day and someone commented on a video I had uploaded showcasing my custom rom on my Vibrant. They asked If I could upload a tutorial on how to root and flash a rom onto the device. I said sure why not?
So here I have a two part series that goes from starting with odin, flashing a true stock firmware onto the device. Then gaining root access, flashing the rom. And finally, restoring all the apps via Titanium backup. I also mention SuperPower in my video. Thanks goes out to Chainfire for his excellent application!
At any rate, I'm no dev or anything. Just a fellow android user who thought those who would like to upgrade and were afraid or unwilling to take the plunge into flashing a custom rom could use a quick two part 30 minute tutorial on getting the job done. I'm not perfect so I probably mis spoke a few times. Don't flame me
Enjoy! =]

Found this on YouTube before he posted here. Damn good tutorial vids. My vibrant is running like a dream on Nero v3 with Voodoo now. If you are coming here looking for questions about ROMs and ODIN, watch these vids. Then watch them again and follow along while you flash your own device. Seriously, I was as nervous as anyone else, but this did the trick for me.
No offense to all of the other folks here who have provided so much information before this. That was all great and I should thank you all. It's just that this was so straightforward, I watched it once and then got to work. Great job man. Thanks, again.

I think we're all here to help. I know for a fact there is a very professional series of videos coming soon. This is great in it's absence, well done. Certainly better than the videos I made for the noob guide.
Op, cool if I link to the stickies since this is not one, yet

So glad to hear it! I was quite leery of odin the first time I soft bricked my phone, I figured I was SOL. But once you have gone from odin and back again, It's hard to forget.

Hey Mdtolic, welcome to XDA! I really think simple stupid is the way to go sometimes. Someone can explain the whole rigmarole and you're still left scratching your head. I really appreciate your comments and happy you were able to successfully root and flash your phone with a custom ROM. It's such an awesome feeling once you get your ROM on and tweak it just right. A stark difference compared to stock. And to think, I just randomly decided to make this one day , I didn't think it would actually help anyone lol.

Alright, added this to both stickies man. If you add more, please update your OP as that is what I have linked to, not your videos (just in case you update).

Cheers!

Always goes to the blue stock recovery
I followed the steps repeatly, but rom mgr always goes to the blue recovery mode, any suggestions? what do I do next?, thanks guys.
OK, I found the problem, after I repeated about 10-15 times, I had to go to the bottom of rom manager and do ALL ClcokworkMod Recoveries to flash older verions then it worked. For those of you who run into this problem. Weird your video didn't have to do that.

how do i flash a rom with odin?

Hello
is it possible to use odin to flash or root my htc desire?
If it is not, is there any other software like odin??

Glad the op was made into a sticky! I used this video to gain additional knowledge prior to flashing my first rom. Great job.
If your taking requests I would love to see a video from start to finish on how to flash a ginger rom which included flashing the ginger kernal through odin!

Flashed new ROM now.....

I realize that I'm a big fan of Bi-Winning! After a bootloader scare with SimplyRC3.3. I sure am glad to have my friends here @ XDA to leave me breadcrumbs (pit and tar files) so that I can find my way back to stock.
You had a bootloader scare with Simply Galaxy? Not possible. That's a 100% Vibrant port/version with the loader of our phone, there's zero chance you would run into such a deal if you indeed flashed that rom.

Dunno about earlier versions but he specifically said rc3.3 which is "new".
Ah. Well bootloaders are serious. I'd imagine Abu-71bash is correct because if you had a problem with a bootloader, your phone would likely be a brick.
You probably had a different problem that you thought was a bootloader issue.

[How-to] from CommRom 2.1, or evil 3.6 to Cyanogen 7 build 7-4

Alright, I wanted to try the new test build of Cyanogenmod, but thought it would be impossible because Odin refuses to work for me. Well, here is a step by step on how to go from CommRom 2.0 (or 2.1) or evil 3.6 to the new build.

[Q] Unroot with Mac for Noobs

Noob here,
I've looked and looked and haven't seen anything definitive. I have a Samsung GS II (I-777). Someone had rooted my phone for me a while back but now I want to un-root it. I only have access to Mac and have NO idea how to. Everything on here seems to be written in a different language lol. What's the easiest and most simplest way to do this? Sorry if this is repetitive. Thanks in advance!
Rooting is such an easy proccess. Looking at you, I would not recommend it doing by yourself. Rooting will not get you on any legal issue other than warranty cancelation. If you still insist look at the stickied threads in this forum. I myself would like to explain it, but I can't explain it better.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I777 using XDA
Not sure if a virtual machine of Windows would work but I would give that a try if your hell bent on un-rooting.
My question is why do you want to reverse a good thing?

What I meant was that rooting is easy to do. And nothing negatives comes out of it unless you want to get the phone back to store... Since it's a mac and he doesn't have much knowledge of rooting, just let it be.

Well, "looking at you" made me go Whaaaat??? myself. Odd snap judgement from reading one post, which was pretty well phrased from what I saw.
Check this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1434020 which should help - and this thread says it should work with MacOS: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1286432. You'll need to do some more searching and learning (start with the sticky at the top of the general forum). If you don't feel confident doing this, then don't. You really aren't going to gain anything by it unless you have a specific need. Or expand on what you're looking for and maybe we can help.
BTW if you don't use it, the difference between root and unrooted is zero AFAIK. Root just lets you do more, but it's still stock i777 if that's all "someone" did.
Well, the thing is, the root that this person did (not me lol) has disabled my wifi. It's the ZedomaxStockKernel. I did some research on this and it seems that using this method renders the wifi useless. I clearly don't know what I'm doing but will read more in regards to this. Again, I've had the phone rooted for about a month now and I haven't done anything different. (Maybe because I don't know how) I wouldn't mind leaving it rooted but if I could fix the wifi issue, that would be great and then maybe I can learn further about this whole root thing. Reading through the forums though, most people rooting have Windows and not Macos. Which kind of leaves me feeling alone lol

Go into the siyah thread (you can do it on your phone). Download the ATT tar file. Open up mobile odin, select kernel. It will open a window to find your kernel. If you download from the xda app it will be in tapatalk_downloads I think. Select siyah_2.1.13 (or whatever it is). Go down to the bottom where it says flash firmware, hit it. If done correctly, the phone will reboot and everything will be awesome
I'll keep an eye on this thread tonight in case you have further questions.
Forgot to mention, the siyah thread is here in the i777 forum, more specifically look in the development section. The download link is in the first post.

1. Should I download the .tar file directly to my phone? Would that be easiest?
2. I can't seem to find the thread in the development section, care to spoon feed me?
Lastly, when I googled Siyah it gave my a website but I don't know if that's reliable or not.

Just out of curiosity, what will you be doing differently to your ROM that makes it the way you like it? Pretty much everything that you could do has already been done and is available to download and flash. If you can't make the 4 in 1 menu work, you are probably better off flashing one that has been done already. Edit the build.prop to say "Shawns Custom ROM" or whatever you want. Good luck in your endeavor to make a rom that has already been made

No, but it is no different really than people taking someone's rom and removing apks before flashing to make it just how they like it. As long as he doesn't publish it as a Rom for everyone to use without giving proper credit to whos work he used I don't see what the big deal is. Just help the guy out or don't say anything.
yeah come on guys dont be so hard on him. I have to say tho Con's reply was pretty funny tho
He was asking about a flash able zip file. One to flash over an existing ROM. Flashing a ROM with it built in would solve the problem he described.

He just wants to add the power menu, not create a a Rom. I also have been looking for the same thing. At this point I like stock rooted but there is no option with the power menu.
If you check Scott's ROMs, he has a flashable tweaks zip that includes extended restart menu. I think it's based on Leedroid tweaks, and Scott offers it as a start to modding your own ROM.
Sorry I don't have a link right now. Just Google Scott's Tweaks or Leedroid Tweaks. Good luck.
And you shouldn't have to justify asking for modding help in a development "general" forum, but welcome to the xda Rezound community.

Have a couple questions about Amaze

Ok, I just got an HTC Amaze, 4.0.3 ics, and I know about the all in one kit and htc dev for the basic unlocking bootloader and rooting..So I think I know what to do, but i have a few questions.
1. How do I install Beats Audio on a rom that does not come with it?
2. If I install a rom and don't like it, could I just install a rom over it through txt recovery thing?
3. If I install a rom that comes with Faux Kernal and I install a rom over it that does not include a Faux kernal, will I have to reinstall the Faux kernal?
4. If I install a rom, Fourth Bar, for example, that does not come with the HTC Camera, how would I reinstall the HTC camera on my HTC Amaze?
Sorry for all the questions, but I tried looking for it and could not find anything.. I would really appreciate the help in a reply pm, etc.. Thank you.

Um I'm pretty sure myself and others answered you back in the themes and apps thread. These things can be found in the amaze bible thread along with the million and one threads right here in the q&a.

Thank you.

Not really liking our disrespectful community. Let's open our arms to people. Sure they may be noobs. Look at me. This is my first Android phone and looks what I have done!
1. There has to be a flashable zip that you can install
2. You need to SuperWipe first and then flash a ROM
3. If you are S-Off, it will overwrite the kernel. If not, then it won't matter
4. Fourth Bar may have SytemUI/Framework edits for the camera he added. So it may not work by installing the original camera apk
Disrespectful? Wow, well then.

We shun all the noobs. I admit, it gets annoying. However, we are a community. We are supposed to help each other out. We can help, but also point them to the right direction.

As my first comment stated, the very questions were asked by him in the apps section under another thread and answered, disrespected is a bit far fetched since no one here was snapping or flaming in any way and I'd say pointing towards the bible thread is a bit of help the least, it is what it is, flaming I've never done or never shall do, I've always been helpful regardless how repetitive, I shall say no more here, have a good one.
