I need help with a problem and have first searched but didnt find the answer. My wifes Droid Eris WiFi just quit working all of a sudden. She was on wifi updating her facebook and it just quit working.I am able to hook to wifi on my Droid1 and my laptop can also hook to our wifi but she cant.
I have tried everything even flashing a new ROM to it and nothing works.Iam at a loss.I can flash a ROM and a few other minor things but I am not technologically savy. Can anyone please help?I am catching pure H.E.double hockey sticks and Im desperate here. Thanks in advance.
if she's on Verizon she should have a data plan, so turning off wifi and letting the network data take over would be a quick fix.
Thank you

try restarting the phone, turning wifi on and off, making sure the wireless network is joined correctly (password, etc)

I have tried all that.Even tried connecting to my neighbors wifi to make sure it just wasnt our router.I can connect on my Droid and my laptop too.
Thanks everyone
I solved my own problem. So simple I feel like an idiot.I unplugged my modem and my router and plugged them both back in 2 minutes later and PRESTO....problem solved.
Woot!!! Glad you got it solved, mate.

So I just picked up a Thunderbolt from a local Verizon corporate store. The sales rep told me NOT to use WiFi on my phone because of an issue all Thunderbolts are having. She said once connected to WiFi, it won't be able to switch back to 3G unless you perform a factory reset. It sounds like a load of crappy to me, but I'd rather play it safe. Can anyone confirm or deny this out there? Thanks in advance!

I think I've read about a few people having that issue, but simply switching airplane mode on and off fixes it, I believe.
Pretty sure that rep didn't know what the hell she was talking about. I think it's a safe bet these and other boards would be blowing up if there was a problem as massive as that affecting ALL Thunderbolts.
And my wifi is fine!
yea mine doesnt want to switch back to 3g but a simple restart does the trick, and some vzw reps are idiots deff no factory reset
I use wifi all the time, no problems here.
I use WiFi at home and 3G when i'm at work, i have no problem switching between the two, the sales rep that you were talking to doesn't know what he was talking about

Same here no problems switching from wifi to 3G or to 4G
I've heard people complain about this, but the solution for now seems to be turning airplane mode on and back off. From what I've seen it's not a super common problem, I've never had an issue.
Yup, no problems here.

Sometimes my wifi stops working even when its been on all day. It shows its connected and I have a strong signal, but when I try to use an app that needs a connection the app wont connect. The only thing that fixes it is turning wifi off and back on again. On top of that I noticed huge drains on my battery when this happens.

same thing happens to me. then if I turn off my Wi-Fi sometimes to try and get a 3g connection it takes like 10-15 tries to get a data connection. And even sometimes when that happens I'll turn my Wi-Fi back on and my Wi-Fi acts buggy, doesn't connect... I'll have to try the airplane mode trick
I have the same problem. Changing the EPST setting as found from an Engadget Post:
HTC Thunderbolt 3G data problems solved?

Sort of fixed the problem. However, I rooted to Tesla Coil and now cannot use the "##778#" easter egg dialer anymore.
Just tried the Airplane mode and phone rebooted, doh. Again, after starting up WiFi, no 3G coverage.

No problems here. I use wifi 90% of the day. Although, strangly my router now shuts off its wifi signal ever since I bought this phone. I have to go into my router and setup the network again.

First post here so sorry if I have noob questions...
But my Galaxy S 2 (non-skyrocket) is stock, at 2.3.4 and when tethering, specifically to my ipad, it seems to only work for 30 seconds...
The Data for HSPA+ seems to still work through the phone(as I can still goto websites through the phone), but the tethering seems to cut off after a few seconds...
I have tried disabling encryption (WPA) and still the same thing happens. Only way to get it to work again is to disable the tethering, and reenable, but it only works again for 30 seconds and cuts off...
I tried restarting the phone, and disabling most services running...
Is this a common issue I am experiencing?
I didn't expect this especially when I am pay for the 4GB plan with tethering enabled???

Hi Chris,
Sorry to hear of this issue...? What happens if you try the tethering with a laptop? Does the laptop too get dropped? I would also try keeping the security OPEN and unlocked (no password) *OPEN* to verify it isn't a hardware issue...
Once you have identified that the WiFi is indeed working, then one by one re-enabled the security settings...
Good Luck....
Thanks, I have tried it as an open security then back and the same thing...
I also found the 'Wifi Sleep Policy' setting which seems to be the setting... but it was already set to NEVER... I will continue playing around with settings as it seems to cut off the wifi when my phone goes to sleep or the screen turns off...
I have this problem also. Anyone know anything about this?
I also have that problem. Good for about 20 to 30 secs then nada. Gotta cycle tethering on off to get it back.
Try tethering with a different device. Just to make sure the device that's tethering isn't part of the problem.

Yup - gtg and I have both seen these reports on and off in the Unnamed thread and elsewhere, the problem is that neither of us can reproduce the problem ourselves.
I tether my Tab 10.1 all the time and have NEVER had issues.
If it keeps happening, grab a dmesg and logcat...
I have seen similar thread poped up here before. It seems some phones have this problem. Some don't. Mine doesn't have this problem. Funny thing is both threads are started by ppl who actually paid tethering plan. It's like AT&T didn't really want anyone to pay the tethering plan
I'm running UnNamed v1.3.1. I was wondering if At&t was detecting the connection and dropping it but maybe it's an issue with the ROM.
I am having a sorta similar problem, it drops every 15-30mins.
Not sure if the issue is also happening with USB tethering.
Subplot and LiLChris if you could both get us some logcats while the tethering starts and while it stops we might be able to get things working.

Yea ill get that for you today when I get home.
Has anyone got a fix for this? I have the same problem. The connection drops after about 2 minutes. I have the tethering plan from ATT.
Regarding tethering on ATT: If you use UnNamed or any other ROM for that matter for tethering (for example USB tethering), do you encumber extra charges if you are on a data plan (or lets say unlimited data plan)? I understand that carriers offer tethering plans and charge heftily for them.
You don't until you receive the C&D text message from AT&T
Hmmm - I guess we don't want that. There goes that option if stranded on an island and no wifi around. But wait - do I need internet on an island? Or corporate email?

Basically, AT&T has a set of unknown criteria they use to detect tethering.
I've been doing light tethering my Galaxy Tab 10.1 for months with no issues.
Other people have gotten nastygrams after only a few minutes of light tethering of a laptop.
Other people seem to fall in the middle.

My unscientific theory on their detection is that they are somehow detecting user agent strings from the tethered device. If you are tethering an Android tab and my theory is true it would still show up as an Android devices so no harm no foul. Just an idea.
EDIT: I have gotten a nastygram lol so no more fun for me

I could not tether after that until I restarted my phone and it was fine. I am a bit concerned about that! Is Spring on my case? Are the tethering police coming to my house?
Anybody have this happen or know anything about this?

I don't think Spring is after you.. Neither is Sprint. It's probably just a bug that sorted itself when you rebooted.
That will show up if you have WiMax on while trying to use Sprint Hotspot. At least that's the only time I've ever seen it.

Yea i have had that happen with 4g on if you are using the native hotspot. Also I had it happen to me when I wasnt on 4g. It is sort of weird but all I did was turn off the hotspot restart phone and it worked. Also read that u can update profile and it will help it go away so i did it once and the hotspot was on and got the same error and the phone kind of freaked out for a second. So the next time i got the message i turned off hotspot updated profile and restarted no more issues. I think i has something to do with the amt of time you are using it. I was using it almosts 3 days straight since i needed internet for work and could not get it from anywhere else.

I'm using an Atrix 4G on 2.3.4. The wifi turns on, but won't get past scanning. It won't connect or find any network, even if I've added it, and even if I'm right next to the router. Is this a software problem? or hardware? I've seen posts about wifi problems, but none like this. Do you think flashing the sbf or a custom ROM would fix it? I've tried countless factory resets, but to no avail. I'm rooted, but don't have an unlocked recovery.
A few weeks ago, I had a wifi problem that was obviously hardware, (wifi wouldn't turn on without rebooting, bluetooth wouldn't turn on at all) and Motorola requested I send it in. They replaced it with a new unit, I literally got it back this week, and the wifi is crapping out again. SO FREAKING FRUSTRATING. Especially now that AT&T is throttling unlimited data users.
Seriously, any feedback at this point will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!
I had a similar issue. What I did to fix it was I set my router to use at max "G" protocol.

Thanks for the response! I'll figure that out now. But what do you do when you're not near a router you can control?
Have you had an opportunity to use it on another wifi network? My problem was just with my specific router so you might not have that issue depending on what router it's trying to connect to. It's possible this might not be the issue at all, just a suggestion.

Yeah it wouldn't find my girlfriend's either, but we have the same router. Im thinkin its in the phone though..
I use 2 routers at home, one wireless G and the other is set to wireless N only (I set this to N only and only use wireless N devices on it so as to maintain maximum bandwidth). I have no problems connecting to either on multiple SSID's. Wireless G is a Netgear WGR614v9 on stock firmware. Wireless N is a Netgear WNR3500L running WRT firmware.
I'm dumb. Haha but how exactly do you set your router to G only? And ..what exactly does that mean...?
And I guess the real question is, since I've factory reset it several times and the problem still isn't fixed, does that mean it's a hardware problem? Or are there areas that a factory reset wouldn't reach, but that a flash would?
I can't believe I'm the only person to experience this.
Steps to recreate the issue:
Follow steps to remove flag using SQL Lite (Entitlement = 0)
Turn on WiFi connection and wait for it to connect
Lauch WiFi Tether 3.1 pre11 beta
Watch WiFi connection get turned OFF AUTOMATICALLY
Watch 4G LTE Turn on AUTOMATICALLY
Watch Verizon profit
Why??? Are we just not able to tether via wifi ? why is it called wifi tether? You mean 4G Tether right?
Also just tired FoxFi Tether and what do you know? WiFi mode has failed on your phone. Please use Bluetooth? LOL what is this garbage? is this a Verizon/Motorola thing?
Have never, ever seen this happen on HTC/Samsung phones.
Anyone pls?
ok, my first flame of the month: please take a logic 101 course, then reread your question. thank you!
Hey I even thanked you for attempting.
Regardless I would like to Tether using my WiFi connection and not Verizon's 4G.

I don't. I just can't understand why it won't work? Does your phone turn off wifi?
It shouldn't. It should let me run tether through my net connection or any damn connection I choose, not Verizon. Yet it keeps turning it off. Turning off my connection. It's odd, strange. I feel like I'm being controlled and oppressed by "the man!"
First phone I've encountered that forces Wifi off (a perfectly good connection) to switch over to 4G/3G. I just find it strange.
I'm new to Motorola phones, well I had the v120c in 2000 So far they're quite strange compared to HTC/Samsung.
Okay well first off... I don't know why you did the SQL edit because you're using a third party app anyway.
Secondly... I can't name a phone where you can tether a WiFi connection into another hotspot... There'd just be no point. Your connection will always be equal to or worse than your phone's, so you might as well just connect directly.
You're talking about internet pass through. Where it takes an existing connection whether it be wifi or 3G/4G and let a device use that for internet. What you're doing is data wifi tethering. Where it turns off your wifi radio and turns your phone into an access point so other can connect it and use your 3G/4G data to connect to the internet.

This program enables tethering (via wifi) for "rooted" handsets running android (such as the Android DevPhone 1). Clients (your laptop for example) can connect via wifi (ad-hoc mode)and get access to the internet using the 3G, 2G mobile connection which is established by the handset.

If you want to use your phone as a WiFi share to connect a computer that doesn't have WiFi then you'll need something like PdaNet instead.

Wifi tether uses your phones data connection to the carrier as the source and tethers another device using the phones wifi radio. This is the definition of wifi tether.
None of the aftermarket apps will work. The only way I've got this to work is using the SQL hack and using the native wifi hotspot app.
To use your device in this fashion the wifi radio must drop its connection to your wifi router, connect to 4g or 3g and convert the internal wifi radio into a wireless hotspot. This is normal behavior.
What your referring to is internet pass through as was previously mentioned

It sounds like he wants his phone to rebroadcast whatever wifi network he's connected so other devices can connect to it.

From what it sounds like, perhaps he is wanting to share a protected wifi network using an unprotected hotspot? *shrug*
Perhaps he wants his phone to be like a USB wireless adaptor that connects to a wifi ap and not use 4g? (kinda want to know how to do that myself). I was able to with no problem on a g2x

Just to test it out the capacity, tempreture etc. That's all. Never had a phone that forces WiFi off when you try to share the connection, even though, it's logical since you would need a connection in the 1st place.
I've since found out this can't be done on this phone.
FoxFi - "WiFi mode has failed on your phone"
If i am not mistaken, he is trying to use his pnone as a WiFi hotspot, using FoxFi (same as i am trying to do) using his data plan, but FoxFi does not seem to be working. I have the exact same issue, wheter using WiFi or Bluetooth, my laptop can not connect.
Any ideas?

Droid Razr -not Rooted
ICS OTA
Foxfi will NOT work on my Razr. I've deleted, uninstalled, reinstalled and still NOTHING.
Some folks insist it works, well, it may on their phone, but NOT on mine.
I have 2 Razrs in the house, and it fails on both. All it does is suggest Bluetooth, and that fails, too!!!!
Any or all help is so very much appreciated. Paying for 4gb data, and only use 1gb is kind of silly. I continue to pay because new share plan would cost more.
Thanks!

Actually how about a router that's running wpa2 and a PSP that only supports wpa? My other radio on my router is 5GHz which my phone can't see. So wifi tether makes sense. I'm forced to use my mobile connection because wifi turned off.
