I have run into an odd problem. I took a gingerbread themed cm6.1.1 rom and replaced some image files. My changes worked and everything runs fine on the phone, except ROOT! I dont get it. the kitchen says its rooted and it has superuser and what-not, so whats the issue?
P.S. I am a new chef and this was my first dish
Try locating the root files and replacing them from another source. dunno. weird.
Replace your cooked rom with your backup and see if your root is restored.

Would anyone be able to deodex the official ji6 update and package it into a flashable zip?
I'm new to this, but I tried using xultimate. It doedexed the system/app and the system/framework
But I didnt know how to get them installed, so I copied them over one by one using root explorer after deleting the odex files.
For the most part everything worked, I even got the stock lockscreen to work by copying over the android.policy.jar from eugene373s thread, but 3 things bugged me. It constantly took 5 minutes to boot up. But thats not one of the bugs. The battery icon was completely gone. The market would load, but nothing could be downloaded, and the camera would fc without even opening.
I nandroided back in the meantime.
If anyone could do this or help me do it myself i'd appreciate it.

Good One
I also would like this. I prefer making my own changes to my phone. All I want is the deodexed, nothing else.
thanks!
Hello everyone:
I've tried everything, I've looked at the entire vibrantdump.zip, Eugene's vibrant4.zip, and the only thing I can find is the Sims launcher. I cannot find the apk for the entire game. I'm running Bionix 1.9 and it's great, but since I paid for the game when I got the phone, It'd be nice to get it back up and running. Can anyone help out? PM me if you have to, I'd really appreciate it.
Cheers =^)

Lol, I have the sims .apk but not the launcher. Search for com.ideaworks3d.thesims3.apk and you will find what you're looking for.
Thanks!!!
Thanks!!! I'll give it a shot!
Ok... I got the .apk, installed it, and it plays, but the graphics are off. Alot of it just displays as white without showing the original texture and color. Any ideas?
Just flash the stock ROM and you will have it !

I agree. Reflash using odin and make a nandroid backup before deleting apps.
Ok, thanks for the replies, everyone. I know some of the stock roms out there have the bloatware removed, so does anyone have advice on which stock rom I can use that would get my phone back to factory stock with all the bloatware and hopefully will also includes the new OTA update. If you could point me to the right thread, I'd appreciate it. I'm not sure which one is the best to use for what I want to do.
I'm on Bionix 1.9 right now. I also noticed that The Sims and the Avatar launcher were removed. I never even played the Sims, but I figured I'd try it. The only thing I could think of to retrieve it was to nandroid back to stock, back up the .apk with Astro (titanium backup wasn't seeing it for some reason), nadroid back to Bionix, and then install it. That all worked out just fine. However, there seems to be no launcher for it. An dwhen you browse to the .apk in Astor, and try to "launch" it, it gives me this error:
activity not found - com.ideaworks3d.thesims3
Does anyone have any idea how to get it working again, after flashing a custom rom that removed it along with various other pre-installed apps? Thanks in advance.
Maybe along with the apk you need the 'data_tmo/games' directory that has the data files. That may be why your game runs but without the textures and graphics.

For anyone having this same issue (had this happen when I installed Obsidian 4.2) here is the fix:
http://www.thegadgetnista.com/samsung-vibrants-sims-3-collectors-edition-on-droid/
Step 1: Download the files listed.
Step 2: Install BOTH files.
Done.

This method works. Thanks!
worked on 2.2 rom, thank you so much !!
Hi all
I rooted my Galaxy 5.0 player (YP-G70 US version running 2.3.5) using onesuperclick successfully. Im looking to put a good working ROM (one that has everything working until ICS ROM camera bugs are sorted out). For now I decided to try Eryigit-GB-2.3.6 G70ZCKPA Galaxy Player 5.0 For USA and INT (Rls:3.5) {UPDATED}.Is this the best room with everythign working?????
Also
I want to know do i need to flash with a kernel before i do this.or should i just chose the above rom to flash??
I see two kernels rj and entropy..what are they??are the kernels only needed for clockwork method??what is cwm?
And when ICS bugs are all sorted would i be able to just flash it with that ROM the similar way or do i need some kernel.??
one last question is there anyway to make a backup of my current stock firmware/kernel in case i want to roll back or something goes wrong.
Thanks for help in advance,
No, you can't backup your device as is, not to my knowledge. There is a copy of the stock ROM/kernel floating around somewhere here though.
With Eryigit, I believe that the kernel comes included in the ROM (hence, flashing the wrong variant [eg the INT'L version] will brick your device), so no- you shouldn't need to flash a kernel. check with the page though. ie If it says flash Entropys kernel before (Entropy= US SGP), do it. If not, don't.

Well, actually, flashing Eryigit Rom is quite safe... regardless of what device you have (INT or US)... The only thing is that if you flash the US version (Capacitive Home button) to an INT version (Hardware Home button) then your home button will not function... that is basically it.. no bricking will occur.
If you do flash the wrong version of Eryigit's rom, just simply flash the right kernel and you are good to go. No need to flash the whole rom over.
So... Eryigit's rom is quite good GB rom. I use it on two of my 5.0 players (INT) and it's quite stable and everything works...
Any of these current ICS roms (and future ones for that matter) will more likely contain the kernels as part of the rom... just flash the package and you should be set... Just make sure you read all the instructions carefully because a failure to do so WILL brick your device... ^_~
As for the backing up your stock rom... I believe there are a few stock roms (along with instructions) to be found in the devs section if you decide to go back. Your stock recovery will not allow you to do a nandroid backup.
thank you, can anybody post here the direct download link for that updated Eryigit rom. There are various links in that thread(http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1465144) i don't know which one i need.
EDIT:
nevermind; i found it.
i was able to flash the Eryigit 2.3.6 rom after flashing with DD_01142012.tar without any problems.
Im having couple of probelma with the updated Eryigit rom. The music shortcut icon in the bottom left corner ont he main screen always force closes. (Although the program works in apps menu). the 2nd thing is the battery does not last longer.
Are these are known issues???
UBefore you flash to a new ROM,,ALWAYS no matter what you have to make a nAndroid backup.to do this install clockwork mod (search, its not very difficult.I can't tell you now how to do this) then reboot in recovery, backup and restore, backup.
This will make a rom just like your system.
If you can wait a few hours,I will upload a thread hot to install CWM for dummies
Don't forget to press the thank button!!!
Thanks for the correction, cvc.
If the program launches and works just fine in the app drawer, but the icon FCs consistently, it's might be due to a faulty file in either the /data/app folder and/or the /data/data folder.
Try deleting the shortcut first, then re-making it from the app drawer. If that doesn't work...
Backup your device with CWM before anything.
I'm assuming that the music app you're talking about came stock on the ROM, which means its in your /system/app folder. Since I don't know the name of that specific music player, look in those folders for a file that matches the name of your music player (all of those start with "com.") in the /data/app and /data/data folders with Root Explorer or Ghost Commander. Delete, then reboot. Remake the icon from the app drawer. If that still FCs, repeat, except that before you reboot, open the .apk file directly from /system/app folder.
thanks i will try that.
also one more problem
. no matter how long i charge the battery never goes more then 80%. is this a know problem.??

it will charge up to 100% eventually i used to have this problem too, but that was with my old player.. i got it replaced with a new one and it didnt have that problem no more... so depending on whether you got an old version or new version this will happen...
Hi All,
i have an issue - i installed custom ROM, custom kernel, all is working except root.
I have two root apps - superuser (standard) and one from ROM supersu. One came with ROM, and i flashed another (standard) just after flash (not sure why really)
So - I have two supersusers - bot don't have root... irony
Any suggestion how to fix that? Also, how should i delete superuser (standard) from system/app folder (without root apparently)?
Thanks all!
"This app cannot be uninstalled if it was installed with your ROM or root. If there is no uninstall option, it's because you placed it in /system/app, not me. It is impossible for an app to be installed in /system/app by the Play store. In fact, the entire /system partition is read only at runtime. The only way for an app to be placed in /system/app is via a rooting process (which usually installs Superuser), or by remounting the system partition as read/write and manually putting it there."
this is from the play store page. I guess you could try using root explorer to delete it but don't know if it will work
The more important question is why don't you have root? You have two root apps installed on a custom ROM. You should be able to run SuperSU and let it update the su binary. Then you can use ROM Toolbox or TB to remove Superuser.

That is a strange problem. Never had that issue. Some custom come with supersu already installed and don't require you to install super user from the market. In fact it dont make sense to download standard unless you have standard from Rom and want to add supersu for better root access. Try to reflash Rom first and see if that works. Don't install standard. If that don't work try another Rom.

That's already been suggested in the ROM thread on another site, but he seems to be trying to get around it without reinstalling the ROM. He said over there that he doesn't know why he installed SuperUser since the ROM came with another su app and neither do I. He should just go ahead and reflash the ROM.
For some reason this guy seems to want to do things differently from standard practices and then ask for help when it doesn't work. His latest post in the other thread was asking if he could flash the ROM after removing the kernel (boot.img)!
I'm not sure where he comes up with these ideas but he seems to be off doing his own thing even though he is new at this stuff. I'm not suggesting that you don't help him, but wanted you to be aware that he may be creating problems for himself.

Thanks for the heads up. Your right, it don't make sense to try something different if what we suggest to somebody has been a better and usually a full proof way of fixing a problem. But like you said if he wants to add to his own problems that's on him. Let's make this clear to him too since he is new. Nobody on this site or other sites are responsible if you blow up your device, your gf leaves you, or you burn down your house and get fired. :highfive:
Hello! So I have been having a bit of trouble over the past few days and can't figure out why. I have been doing the same process for weeks and it has been working well, but when trying to rebase to the newest firmware leak I lose network. Here is what is happening:
Device is Verizon SGS3
I wipe absolutely everything, then Odin to the newest firmware: SCHI535VBLK3
Install recovery, SU, and unsecured boot as usual.
Everything runs fine - no issues.
In recovery, I install a mod specifically for this device. Mod is here: kindacrapmods
Basically, it modifies SystemUI.apk, mostly just colors and statusbar themes.
Also, modifies framework-res.apk. statusbar transparency, some icon colors, etc.
Reboot, all is swell. Everything is still working.
THEN...
I dump /system and boot to SD card, and in Dsixda's kitchen I build working folder from them, don't make any significant changes, and then build rom.
I flash the newly built/signed rom and it boots up fine. Everything works EXCEPT I don't have any cellular network/data at all. Just the big (/) sign.
Like I said, this has worked fine every time in the past. I don't understand what could be changing between the system dump and rebuilding. It also is fine before modifying framework-res and system-ui... for example - I repeat the process above without flashing mods.
Has anybody had a similar experience or can make sense of what the issue is? I appreciate the help!
I attached a logcat from boot till first screen-off. logcat
EDIT:
I got a logcat of just the radio: radio logcat.
It seems I have lost my MEID somehow. I can probably restore it, but if this is going to happen every time then I still want to figure out why its being lost. Any ideas?
