Last night I updated my g tablet to the most recent VEGAn ROM 5.1. I wiped all the data from my device via clockwork, wiped the Dalvik cache and repartitioned the internal memory as well. The install went smooth and everything is running great except for the fact that I now have no audio coming from my speakers. Turning the volume all the way up does nothing. I tried reinstalling the ROM but the issue repeats itself. Anyone have the same problem? Or, anyone have an idea how to fix this? Thanks.
Sound works fine here. I did have to take it out of silent mode.

Sound fine here too. Volume rocker ONLY sets Media Volume in this ROM. Go to Settings->Sound->Volume and manually set volumes up, see if it fixes.
Thanks for the responses guys(or girls...one never knows). Silent mode is definitely turned off and I have also tried to address the issue by going into the volume settings. I have turned everything all the way up but I still get nothing. I'm gonna restore it to beta 4 and see what's up and then try and reflash 5 again. Wish I knew what was going on but thanks for the input.
Just reflashed to beta 4 and audio worked perfectly. I then reinstalled beta 5.1 and the audio disappeared again. Am I the only one?

I am actually still using beta 5, not beta 5.1, so not sure if something changed when Gojimi updated it this morning?
A quick suggestion - can you try first backing up everything in Clockwork Mod, then wiping user data and see if it makes a difference (i.e. if audio is still screwed up on a fresh install of beta 5.1).
Sound is fine for me in 5.1. All he changed was the G sensor stuff...
Backed it up, wiped user data, did a fresh install and still nothing. Maybe it is specific to my device(although I could not understand for the life of me why). Sad...I am loving VEGAn especially this newest update. I guess I will just wait for the next release to see what happens.

If it works in Beta 4, but not 5 maybe download the file again. Besides the G sensor stuff in 5.1 I think Gojimi also uploaded a new file to fix some boot.img size problem. Can't hurt to try the latest if you haven't already...
Did you try the headphone trick? (insert headphone plug into port, then unplug) That was an early issue that was resolved, but maybe it's making a reappearance.
I'm not on 5.1 yet, working on that today.
(btw, when I first read the title, I thought you were trying to do surround sound off your GTab!)
Brilliant! I've spent hours flashing and reflashing trying to get this thing to work and all I needed to do was plug in some headphones and then unplug them! I wish I would have found this out sooner so I wouldn't have wasted everyone's time. Thank You!
P.S.- Yeah I could see how there could be some confusion about title to this post...ha, I'll have to clarify more next time.

Only thing is you should not have to do that anymore. I bet you still have fragments of old roms hanging out. I do not have to do the headphone trick anymore and I am using 5.1. Haven't had to use that trick for a while now.
Whenever I flash something new I always do a factory reset, and a cache wipe. Every now and then I will use Nvflash to restore all the way back to brand new out of the box status. Too much of the old is getting mixed up with the new in a lot of cases causing lots of people to have weird issues that really don't exist.
Makes it hard for a developer to really know what is working and what is broken..
I just installed beta 5.1 and no audio issues, yet. Did you do a data wipe? Maybe there's something in /data causing the issue, that's my only guess.
Data wipes between mods and major updates is always recommended. I know it's a PITN but it can reduce the number of weird issues. I use Titanium Backup religiously.
I have never had to do it before with any older ROMS. I have only been using VEGAn ROMS since beta 3 came out. I also have been doing factory resets, wiping the cache, and repartitioning the sdcard consistently between installs. I might need to use Nvflash just to be safe and install a totally clean version.

I think the framework changed between beta 4 and beta 5. Different stuff. Maybe that's why you have been fortunate until now...
I got No sound too. Plugging in headset makes sound work On headet but when unplugged my sound is gone again. was working perfect on Beta 4.
Just flashed to Vegan Beta5 2 hours ago. My audio is working fine. Playing "Hall of the Mountain King" atm from speakers.
I update Vegan-tab 5.1 and the sound was working, i watched couple of movies, and today evening no sound, tried in setup and no sound.
I was turning sound off/on from the screen unlock, window, by swipe down the speaker icon. Now i have no sound.
I don't know what i did to make the sound goaway.
Update: now i got the sound back, don't know how i got back since i did all the tricks said in this forum.
1. did the settings->volume-> changed all 3 volume increase.
2. reboot may times.
don;t remember the order. so don't know which one cleared it.
So far I have not run into the no sound problem with b5.1. I sure hope it doesn't crop up because I leave today for a week long trip.
Last night i had installed FRING and Yahoo Instant Messenger, with the Voice/video add-on. And my media volume was muted, couldn't get it to go up. Even when going into setting, and increasing it, it wouldn't increase. I uninstalled those programs and it started working again after a reboot. Running VEGAN 5.2.

So I recently just rooted my droid and I'm running the evileris firmware atm I'm really happy with everything except that my phone can no longer make phone calls. The sound during phone calls does not work and I think it may not work sometimes in the music player as well. It works when I plug in the headphones but when i take them out no sound.
Airplane mode and resetting do not fix this problem and the updates that I've tried flashing from [FIX] Audiofix. NEED TESTERS FOR NEW KERNEL in the Hero CDMA forum do not work either.
This phone worked fine before rooting and flashing and the problem is present on all the roms I've used. The update above simply hangs my phone at the bootscreen, no matter which one I use. (Maybe its written just for hero?)
Anyways I was hoping one of you guys could have a fix or maybe have also had this same problem? Thanks!
(from what I've read in the thread above it seems the issue is a bad kernel that hangs up or fails to reset so you have to do it manually, but resetting doesn't fix the issue for my. My problem is constant phone call audio loss)
UPDATE: I have done some more experimenting and it seems the only problem is from the in-cal speaker, because when I put speakerphone on it works fine. The problem lies with the front speaker (part that goes to your ear).
maybe your phone is broken?
I went back down to 1.5 root, works fine. Its an issue with 2.1 :/ So currently I have 2 nandroid backups, 1 of 1.5 and 1 of 2.1 so I'm just switching in between the two.
did you try....
Did you wipe before flashing? After flashing did you try *228 opt 1? This may help as it sorted my audio issues with another Rom.
im having this same problem and i have no clue why i have tried everything knows possible to fix this.
I wipe before each flash as well as each recovery haha. atm my setup is 2.1 evil eris for the weekends and 1.5root for the weekday when i actually need to make calls
*228 opt 1 did not work btw
I just make a new backup at the end of the week and recover to the other one, works like a dual-boot pc or a bootcamp mac. It works, but its getting kidna old I'd rather just have 2.1 for good haha.
Longtime lurker.....1st time poster....I just installed leak v2 (I was one of those that was too impatient to wait for root)...I had the same problem that everything worked fine except the phone had no in call sound. went through all the setting and found that TTY was set to full...I unchecked it and the sound came back. I know this may be simple...but it worked for me.

I'm having the same problem... During a phone call, I get no sound / can't hear the person I am calling from the "internal speakers" (i.e. the one you hold to your ear during a call). If I switch to external speakers (i.e. loudspeakers) I can hear the person I'm calling...
What is this "TTY" setting that fixed this problem for you? Where can I find it and uncheck it?
My SGS2 stopped vibrating. Tried flashing, un-rooting, restoring stock and factory settings. None of these worked.
I am inclined to think that it is a hardware problem.
Has anyone else been dealing with issue? I read some posts on XDA regarding this matter but they were software related as opposed to hardware. Can anyone post instructions on how to fix it or provide any solutions for this issue?
If its hardware, why not flash stock, remove binary flash count with USB jig, and return for warranty?

Cannot get jig in Palestine. Bought the phone from the UK. Sending it back will be problematic. I will look for a repair shop.
Thanks for the quick reply
That's a "bummer" (bad luck). You could make a jig, but as you said that it would be problematic to return. Hope you can sort it easily. Sorry, can't think of anything of use right now.

hey there,
i got the same problem. no more vibrating at all. not with calls or notifications and not as haptic feedback. it started today (was still working in the morning), though i did not drop the phone or anything.
i am still hoping too find that it's a sw-problem. but all potential solutions i find do not help. so i guess i have to contact samsung.
but before i do that i have to get rid of all "hacking".
could you plz tell me what i have to do?
i have now cm9 20120402 nightly.
but i still have a cwm-recovery-backup of the original touchwiz (gingerbread).
-so first i make a backup of my current rom via cwm and of all my apps via titanium and store everything on my pc.
-i flash my touchwiz-backup
-i get one of those: http://www.amazon.de/s/ref=nb_sb_no...ld-keywords=Samsung+Galaxy+S2+USB+Jig&x=0&y=0 , plug it in, wait til its done and remove it again.
after that, samsung will never know i "messed" with the phone??
or do i have to consider/do something else?
tyvm!!

I have the same issue.
When I was on my stock 2.3.5, I found a workaround:
- go into test mode (dial *#0*#)
- find the vibrate button, when you press it, it shouldn't work like you expect
- go back
- plug in your headphones and push the cable a bit to the left
- test vibrate again - this time it should work
- pull the cable out while vibrating, still pushed to the left, vibrations should stay on
I know it sounds crazy but it seems the hardware part that controls the vibrations is near to the jack port - excessive use of headphones, like it was case, must have damaged it somehow.
However, now I'm on CM9, so no test mode for me, I'm achieving the same effect by bashing the back button, so I get semi-constant vibration. I know, It's ridiculous.
Have the same problem here, I think it's software related because the shut down vibration stopped working when I flashed CM9 ICS, I can't remember if it was working anywhere else though. But now I'm back to 2.3.5 and it's not working at all. Did a Factory Reset, Cleaned Cache before and after the flash. Also used the Jig to reset my counter. Any clues?
I am experiencing the same issue.
Yesterday, I downgraded from 4.0.3 back to 2.3.5 as I was having a lot of problems with ICS. Now, my phone works fine again except for the fact that it does not vibrate anymore. (Which it did fine in 4.0.3 and before in 2.3.5)
I tried the trick Lechium06 mentioned in this thread but that did not work for me.
Anyone else having this issue? More important, anyone have a solution???

I saw something similar on CM9 thread, they said it could be a "bad flash", not a corrupted rom but the lack of proper cleanup before and after the flash. But I cleaned up everything before and after and I don't like reconfiguring the whole phone again for nothing.
it happend again.
dont recall what i did or if i did something last time at all. but it worked for over a year now. and now, my sgs2 doesnt vibrate at all, i tried all possible settings, tested with z-device and rebooted. nothing.

since i had that before, i ruled out a hardware issue. it happend when i played with the system settings. but as i sayed, i tried to reverse everything i did. now after i updated to 0206 and wiped cache and dalvik, still no vibration.
is there anything i could have missed?
is there a possibility to reset all settings to default without deleting all my data?

I assume since your posting in xda developers that you are rooted?
If so, just back up data with titanium backup app and factory reset, setup system and then restore USER apps and data only.

Did you install another rom?
My vibration for example didn't work with some cm10.1 nightlies
it started in cm10.1 20130203. then i tried wipe cache and dalvik. nothing. then i updated to 0206 (wiped cache and dalvik again) > still nothing. went to bed. got up. everything ok! its vibration again! i am 100% sure, it did not work, when i left it on my desk last night. this morning, i checked for missed calls and it took a moment until i realized: i got haptik feedback back on patternunlock and keystrokes! checked ringtone-vibration: fine as well!
dont ask me how! would still like to know for myself.

3 days ago I started experiencing weird phone behaviour. I tried calling someone but i didn't hear the "calling" beeping sound nor i could hear if there was any answer on the other end. Then i couldn't hear anything when i was getting calls. It didn't matter if i use the "loud" speaker or the "on-ear" speaker, the result was the same - no in-call volume. Microphone and "loud" speaker seem to work fine as i could use them as usual with other apps. Mobile data was working, so antenna was also OK, SIM card seemed to function properly as well. Other people who I tried speaking to did hear me fine, just i couldn't hear anything.
I tried freezing, then uninstalling all the non system apps that i thought could have impact on this matter, but that didn't help. I was using AOKP Rom and i had nand backup of Omega Rom 5.2 with stock samsung touchwiz, I tried restoring back to it, but for my surprise the in-call sound was still quiet. I didn't know what else could be and let it alone for an hour or so. Suddenly, the next time I tried it again, it WORKED!. After 2 hours of it working, i got back to my AOKP as i have it backed up right before switching to Omega Rom backup. I defrosted the apps and reinstalled the uninstalled ones. Nothing was influencing the in-call sound of the phone, everything worked fine.
The next day this problem popped up all of a sudden again. I got mad, i tried everything i did before except restoring the stock rom. Nothing helped. I then booted into CWM and set to fix permissions, to wipe Dalvik cache and i flashed the latest modem. Rebooted. The in-call sound was OK again. Something of these actions fixed it.
Today i got this NO IN-CALL SOUND bug once again. Seems like it wasn't the new modem that helped me. I booted to CWM and wiped Dalvik cache, rebooted, the in-call sound was working fine again. So, wiping Dalvik cache does fix the problem so far.
I'm keen to understand what exactly could cause this weird behaviour of disappearing in-call sound. Do you have any ideas?
I have the same problem.
If you find any sollutions, let me know.
You may delete some system apps.the solution is that you can just flash a rom and don't delete the apps you don't know
I've experienced something similar. I think in my case the MIC wasn't working either, but not entirely sure about that.
This thread seems to be about the same issue:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1721604
Also while browsing the developer forum, I bumped into something interesting:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1745974
This is for a ROM I don't use, but if the it's the same issue, and affects other ROMs too, I'd be very interested in knowing what exactly was fixed here.
Experienced this problem for the first time today, the volume actually disappeared during a call. Read through the posts suggested above and cleared cache and dalvik, but it didn't make any difference. Finally, I removed the battery, re-fitted and re-booted and it's currently working again. There does seem to be an issue with Omega/Siyah 1.2.6 combinations which is what I'm currently running
My tab (P4wifi model) does not seem to recognize the current volume level when I start playing any app with sound (Youtube, Netflix etc.).
The moment I adjust the volume up or down (physical button or on screen), volume comes back up and from there it acts normally.
For example, if the volume level by default is 80% and if I start playing something on Netflix, it plays in very low volume and then if I reduce/increase the volume even just by 1, then sound comes back up to the actual level as if it never knew the volume was 80%.
I have tried many Roms like cyanogen, SGT7, Omni 4.4, Nameless 4.4 and now I'm on SlimSaber 4.3.1. As far as I can remember, it used to work fine in stock ROM and somehow broke somewhere along the way.
I am not able to figure out what I did wrong and not able to figure out an exact match for the problem even after searching posts here. I know this tab generally lacks volume and also about multiple apps to boost (ViperFx etc) this. But, I am fine with how loud this tablet is. But not the way it behaves when starting up an app with sound.
If this is a hardware problem, I don't know how everything works normal when I adjust the volume even by a little bit. Any help is appreciated.
You could try to go all the way back to stock to see if it fixes it. If it does, then flash back to your current ROM and test again. Like you said, something may have broke along the way and flashing back to stock may fix it.
Thank you. I will try that tonight and see what happens.
Okay so, I went back to Stock 4.0.4 and tested YouTube volume. No problems there. Couldn't test Netflix as it wasn't showing up on play store.
Now, I switched back to SlimSaber 4.3.1 by restoring a nandroid back up with TWRP. Same original issue with volume still exist.
One thing I noticed during the first boot to SlimSaber ROM was the media volume setting was always showing lowest (silent) and wasn't saving the setting even after changing it multiple times. But, this problem got sorted out on its own after a reboot.
I had tried flashing the ROM before restoring backup like you said in your reply. But, at that time ROM did not boot due to some issue. It was stuck at SlimSaber logo. I'm going to try this couple of more times during the weekend and will flash the ROM instead of restoring nandroid to see if that makes any difference.
Try not to use the backup unless you got yourself in trouble. A clean flash is better if you're trying to fix things. And also remember to make a full wipe before flashing. I've been on SlimSaber and I can confirm that I don't have the issue.
Hey all,
A few days ago, I noticed my phone was only vibrating during incoming calls. I checked the Ringtone section in the sound settings and found that the selected "Tone" was "Silent."
I've tried changing the ringtone to various different sounds, but it continues to revert back to silent. The ringer, itself, ISN'T on silent. It's just the ringtone that seems to get changed somehow.
Anyone else encounter this issue and know how to get it resolved?
Thanks in advance for your help.
Are you trying to set it to one of the built-in ringtones, or a custom one you added? If it's a custom one, is it on the SD card? I've had problems in the past with phones "losing" ringtones that were installed on the SD card, rather than internal memory.

I thought you might be on to something there, so I made sure that all of my ringtones and notifications were copied to internal storage and deleted all sounds from my SD card.
I rebooted, setup my sounds again, and had my wife call me a few times over a period of about 2 hours. Rang every time.
Then, just now, I noticed I had 3 missed calls from clients. NOT good. Checked the ringtone settings and it was back to "Silent" again! Infuriating.
It's not the location of the file. And, now that I think about it, if it HAD been the issue, I would've been experiencing loss of notification tones in all of my other apps too.
This problem has seemingly arisen out of nowhere. The ringer worked perfectly fine during the first few weeks I've had the S9+. It just started doing this to me a couple of days ago. I'd really rather not go through the annoyance of a hard reset...
Damn it, this is getting REALLY annoying
HaaaaLP MEEEEEH!
I'm having the same issue on my Samsung Note 8. Began happening after the device received the Android 8.0 update. I've tried everything and it seems to happen completely randomly. HELP!
Mine is working fine. I have mine on the internal storage in the Ringtones folder /0/Ringtones/ it's an mp3 less than 2MB in size. Not that I know any of that makes any difference.

So far, it's ringing, but I'm going to be really disappointed if it reverts to silent again. I'll keep you posted.

So far so good. I've had 7 incoming calls and the ringtone I've selected has stayed in place. For me, before the reset, it would revert to "Silent" after the 2nd call. Fingers crossed.
Same exact thing is happening to me on my HTC U11.
It started happening right away after a full wipe and install of Bad Boyz ROM (Android 8.0). No one else in that ROM thread seems affected.
I have tried just picking a built in ring tone too, and that will also revert. Sometimes it happens within a few minutes, sometimes it takes hours.

That is exactly what happens to me. Custom ringtones make no difference. I've assigned rintones to all my important contacts and those ring through no matter if on silent mode or not. Like you, sometimes it stays put for hours and other times it changes back after a few minutes. Rebooting seems to help it last longer, but I find myself checking my phone all the time to be sure it hasn't gone to silent ringtone. Frustrating!

Well, I think it's safe to say that the hard reset did the trick. Ringtone is sticking now. Hooray.

Glad to hear this seems to be working, but not glad that the answer is factory reset. I really, really don't want to go through that. I think I'll suffer along a bit longer and see if someone comes up with a work around or perhaps an app that can lock the ringtone. One can hope.

Yeah, it was a bit of a pain in the a$$, but worth it. Reset definitely did the trick.
I have the same problem on my S9+ since the last update. the basic sound settings revert to Silent as do custom settings. Has anyone contacted Samsung to dee what their excuse is?
Hi Folks, I've been having the same issue since 3 weeks ago. Called Samsung and was told to delete my customized settings. That DID NOT WORK. Finally a Fix. I wipe my cache partition and it worked.
Turn off your phone. Turn it on while holding Power, Bixby, and Vol. Up buttons until you get the menu. Use volume down to get to Wipe Cache Partition (NOT wipe Personal data/factory reset.) Press PWR to accept.
This does not erase anything and it's worked problem free for about a week. I read in other forums that changing the SIM has fixed this issue, but changing your SIM will clear the Cache as well.
Hope this works for you.
The solution is to quickly remove the old ringtone and replace the new ringtone for the phone
