Now that I have everything working on my rooted Nook, I would like to backup everything that I have on my unit so I can restore it in case I run into any problems. Can anyone suggest a good app for that?
Titanium Backup
Make sure that when you restore your apps, that you don't also restore app data. It'll mess with the Barnes and Noble authentication and reset your rooted device.

I'm glad someone asked this. I did just this yesterday and ka-blam, authentication error. When doing a backup with TB (that just sounds wrong BTW), should we only do user apps/data and not system apps/data? The first go around, I did the latter and hit the authentication error. After re-rooting, which was challenging as it was sort of caught halfway, I only restored user apps/data. So far no issues.
Thoughts?

I would only restore your user apps, no data. That has worked well for me.

I personally wouldn't think restoring apps + data would be a problem (he said it's fine so far) . . . Restoring all your system data is usually what causes problems, if anything.
I have gone through and restored app data on individual apps where it matters most like in games especially and I have had no problems.
Same here, I have been using Titanium Backup since the Nook was rooted. I have only had my Nook show the not authorized message and reformat once. So I am not sure it is Titanium Backup
I don't think it is an issue with TB, something in restored system data seems to freak B&N out. Maybe there is something time based in there and it pukes on the mismatch. My NC has been happy since yesterday with restoring user apps and data.

Has anyone had problem with the Pro version downgrading to the Free version after freezing apps and then rebooting? I've tried twice now (froze apps then rebooted) and both times I run Titanium Backup again it's reverted to the Free version. I have to go back to the market, uninstall, then reinstall.
Just downloaded MyBackup Root off the market place. Used it for the factory reset for my DroidX since I'm was having some lag on the phone after latest update. Haven't tried it yet on the NC.

Do you have a µSD card installed? I believe TB Pro places a file on the µSD card that the app uses to verify that you've paid for the Pro version. If you don't have a µSD card installed, that may prevent TB from realizing that you've paid for the Pro version after a reboot.

Yes, the card is installed. It's not really a big deal because it's easy to reinstall.

I have just recently downloaded Titanium Backup in order to save my apps because I want to try new ROMs that say to do full wipes including EXT wipes. I was just curious what the proper way to use the program to restore apps was. Also, if Titanium Backup saves to your sd card and you do an EXT wipe, won't that delete all of your saved data? How does it restore? I hope this question isnt on the forum somewhere, I tried searching and couldnt quite find the answer i was looking for.
Thanks for the help. You guys on here have been lifesavers.
Hi,
Okay so first Titanium backup will back up your system settings and your applications and does a fine job at it too! When you wipe your Ext2/3/4 partition all your doing is cleaning off any data held in it. This does not effect your fat 32 partition which is where all your stuff is (pictures, albums, films, ringtones etc) I haven't deleted my fat32 partition ever as this never needs touching really. Apps2sd runs from your Ext partiton so wiping will kill all your apps but this is where Titanium comes in and as it saves to the fat32 partition you have no worries wiping. Also suggest backing up on a PC, I do once a week and saved me a few headaches
Open Titanium and hit menu, then batch. This will bring up a list of options to 'Run' backup or restore. I would strongly suggest also to donate $3.99 for the paid version with the hyper shell.
Anything else you need help with?
Nope. Thanks man. I just needed a few things cleared up before I went ahead and wiped my ext. You were a great help.
No problem, glad to have helped
you say it saves system settings...
so i have about 30 ringtones set to specific contacts, if i wipe/flash a new rom.
restore using titanium backup. Will all those ringtones be set back to the proper contacts automatically with TTB? cuz its a pain in the *** setting them each new rom
i tried mybackup pro a long time ago and it didn't do this which is why i don't waste my time with that app. (that may be changed now, it's been about 8 months)
would I be able to Restore my backup if I have flashed a new rom without problems?
I'm having problems with Titanium Backup. I made backup of a lot of apps before flashing some new stuff to my Galaxy S, but now when I try to restore them it just gets stuck. At first there's that little window saying restoring, but that disappears and it seems like everything is fine. However, when I try to restore next app it just says that a process is already running and it stays that way until I kill it via Autokiller. The app gets installed so that's fine, but the problem is that I would really like to just run a batch-operation and not have to kill the Titanium-process for every app i have back-up of...
Any solutions good people of XDA?
check at the new version, it has an alternative restore mode that you need to enable for it to work on the galaxy s
Another restore question
I installed Titanium backup on my Galaxy S Captivate yesterday, did a batch backup of "all user apps + System Data" in the list it showed the bloatware ATT apps which I wanted to uninstall but with the option of reinstalling them if I ever needed to bring the phone back to ATT.
I did a test uninstall of one of the market apps and then did a restore and it worked fine. Then I tried to un installed one of the ATT apps, which worked but when I tried to restore it by clicking on the crossed out app at the bottom of the list, there is no option to restore it, just delete.
Did I do something wrong with the backup or am I not restoring it properly? my test worked fine so I thought I had it figured out but obviously I am doing something wrong.
any help would be appreciated.
thanks!
Similar problem with no luck at reinstalling Att apps. I accidently deleted google talk and now cannot download new apps.
I have a similar question to the OP.
If I use the Master Clear or whatever is called to restore my phone to stock...that is supposed to delete the internal SD Card so, if I were to copy the Titanium Back Up folder to my PC then copy it back to the SD card after the clearing is done...would that be enough to restore all the games and apps?
I have titanium backup stored in sdcard, this backup is settings/wallpaper, is possible to extract from this file only wallpaper, without restoring all backup to the phone??
My news app/widget not working on MY HTC DHD even after several reboot/restart. So I decided to back up the apps and widget trough titanium backup and uninstall the app+widget. After reinstalling the apps/widget. the news app is working again but the widget, I cant find it in widget menus when I tried to add it to home screen.
Any help appreciated.
Thx

Also have a question about this program
It's restores my apps great. Very happy about it. But when you have installed ur apps back.
When I go to the android market they are not listed in my apps.
Though when i go and look for the app in the store it says installed. Yet can't check the allow automatic update checkbox.
Hope I make sense???
So I can't update it basically???Or when there is an update it will show up in my apps ???
My SD card was fried last night... everything gone. Good thing I backed up everything onto my laptop last week. Got a new SD card and copied everything over from the laptop. When I go into TB app, it doesnt show what I copied over. SHows I have no apps in memory... I made sure to copy everything into the "Titanium Backup" folder in my SD card. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

This happened to me as well. Go into the "more" option thru Titanium and select the Market Doctor. This should link your apps back up with the Market. Also, sometimes simply installing an app thru the Market and/or a reboot will get my installed apps to show up properly.
OK thanks. Will try it out.

Hope that worked, but just in case, there's another way. Once in Titanium, click backup/restore, and then scroll to your desired app. Long press the app and then click the option to "attach to market (forced)."
Market Doctor - Amazon Market
I installed a new ROM and restored my apps with TiBu. I was having some syncing problems in the Android Market so I ran Market Doctor. The problem is that I did not know to de-select the Amazon sourced apps so 47 of them got linked to the Android Market. I have since manually de-linked (long press) each of those apps solving most of the problem but they still show up in the Market list but under the 'Not Installed' section at the bottom. Is there a way to permanently break the link? I am concerned about having to deal with it in the future. Maybe re-run Market Doctor following the proper de-select process?
Before you post your question please try this first, as it will solve most of your problems.
Backup your apps (I use titanium backup, the free version works fine)
Reboot into recovery
Perform a factory reset
Wipe cache & dalvik
Reinstall your CM7 or CM9
I found that this has solved most of my issues, some things though, like Netflix, just don't work. Hopefully this can solve whatever problem you are experiencing.

When you say backup your apps, what program are you using? And once you have backed up your apps, and wiped your cache etc... When you restore all your apps are they restored exactly how you had them previously.
My concern is re flashing cm7 and having to spend hours re installing everything again.

Use Titanium Backup to backup and restore your apps. It can backup the app itself and the data that you have for them so they're just how you left them after flashing a new ROM.
Are you using, Titanium Backup Pro. Or just the free version?
Free version should meet your needs.
Many times it is a rogue or incompatible app that is causing the problem. Apps can always be redownloaded. I prefer to use nandroid to make backups of just android. 99% of the time, I don't run into issues others do.

Has anyone ever had this issue with the S5? I downloaded an update for Facebook yesterday that I can swear was a virus. That update wanted to take over my phone. I was on the latest firmware installed via mobile odin. I had Link2SD, XSPOSE, XPRIVACY, Titanium Backup, XStorage, and BusyBox installed. I don't know what happened. Facebook kept telling me that I needed more storage to operate it. Can anyone help with this issue?
Did you restore from a backup right before this happened? Or rather, did you use Titanium Backup to restore your apps right before this happened?

This sometimes happens to me when I install a new rom and then use titanium to restore all my apps. I have pro, so I have the ability to change the id to what my previous id was. If you don't have pro, I'm pretty sure that you can't restore it. If I were you, I'd donate. It's a great app that I use daily.
Good luck.

Does it say which app it's trying to back up when it hangs on 2%? I've found that some apps don't play well with TiBu, especially when I'm trying to restore the app. Maybe you can exclude that app from the backup run.

I dnt know about the backing up issue but I can tell you when restoring apps and your having problems and ill asume its when restoring app/data cuz thats what I had problems with. When I try to restore both it hangs. If you just reinstall the app for playstore or the apk from wherever you got it from then use tb to restore just data ...That works everytime.
Maybe for backing apps and data up maybe do one at a time. It may take longer but youll get them backed.
Please can someone confirm I'm not the only one that is experiencing titanium backup restore issues..... Meaning not restoring anything, whether it's batch or individually.
This makes new rom flashing an absolute nightmare.
Now I am aware of the recent security updates by google where all apps require to be verified when being installed. A work around is disabling app verify and disabling internet connection. But this does not work for me. Now the only easy way (not so easy) is find all apps missing via titanium backup then selecting the view in market button, download and install the Play store way, then do a batch install of data only.
Anyone care to chime in?

I just flashed RR just to see. And I thought I was in the clear when 2 apps restored a no problem when selected manually. But that was short lived having still problems during batch restore. It's seems to be only certain apps not installing and then causes it to freeze. It's then a force stop of TB and start again, but it's just as quick to do it manually.
Have you tried backing up all apps then restoring them so no data is lost and test to see. Because if you go to update your rom etc. TB is a nightmare.

I know I restored all my apps with TiBu when I made the switch from RR M to RR N last June and everything restored just fine. I've updated my rom countless times since then but I'm pretty sure I only made dirty flashes, meaning my apps didn't have to get restored.
When I tested it with those 2 apps yesterday it was a batch restore too ... but just to make sure I just backed up and batch restored 6 more apps without any issues. I'm pretty sure it wouldn't make a difference if I tried again with 16 or 60 apps, on MY phone it works. I don't know why you're having problems, but it works fine here
So I did some more trial and error with good success.
Now I know of all the issues with using an external card as a backup location for titanium. So I have already tried to move my old backups from the external card to the internal sdcard where titaniums default location is, but I had the same results.
So just as an other test I decided to remove all my old backups and start fresh so to speak. I kept the backup location at its default when titanium is newly installed which is on the sdcard and done a full backup.
Backup worked as expected, so I then decided to batch restore some apps and to my surprise they all restored as one would normally expect.
So I suspected there was some kind of corruption to my old backups so I had to test. I moved all my old backup into the new working location.
Titanium showed all the old backups and guess what.... They all restored without issues.
So my guessing is it needs to backup at least once to its folder after a new install before it can use it correctly.
But on my previous tests before doing the above it did backup some old apps from its default location on the sdcard.
Weird and makes no sense..... To me anyway.

I'm inferring from some posts here that there may be problems with restoring TB backups stored on an external SD card. Here is some advice from Titanium Track, copied and pasted from item #31 on their Troubleshooting page:
31. External SD Card problems...
There is an elegant way of giving TitaniumBackup write access to the external sdcard, without having to forfeit security.... Since the time of Android 4.3, Google uses a very clean security-solution by giving apps that request write access to external SD, permission only to their own folder – not to the entire card! In order to get TitaniumBackup to work without compromising security, you can simply create a folder on the external sdcard, using the following folder-structure: /storage/extSdCard/Android/data/com.keramidas.TitaniumBackup/
If you already have existing backups, move them with a file-explorer from their current place to: /storage/extSdCard/Android/data/com.keramidas.TitaniumBackup/ Lastly, go to the preferences of TitaniumBackup, choose “Backup folder location” and choose the above specified folder.
Finish.
I followed this GUIDE back in Marshmallow days and have never had any issues since then - had a friend do it yesterday and now it works for him too. Maybe try that

My problem has never been with writing to the external SD card (although it was some time ago)
This is definitely a TB issue. It can't seem to restore most of my apps that are not already installed. As soon as you install the app manually TB works perfectly.
My solution which I have just done today is backup via TB on old rom but also backup with super backup.
Then flash new rom, use Super Backup to install all the apps (works like TB used to, but does not seem to restore data) then use TB to restore all data.
Twice the work as normal but not as bad as manually doing each app via playstore.
Also worth mentioning Super backup folder is working flawlessly from the externalSD but for batch mode to work you must use the default folder assigned on the externalSD.

Thanks for going to the effort of doing a fresh install. Just out of curiosity what phone and rom are you using.
I'm using LG G5, have tried stock v20 which is android 7.0 with root, I tried FluenceUHD patch over the stock rom, all using SuperSU for root.
