Found another great app for my NC and just wanted to share. Check out Smart Taskbar. Same Dev as Button Savior.
Sent from Nook Color.

How about telling us what the app does?
It gives you one touch access to a task switcher. It seems to work well. The button is small and mostly transparent and shows up obver apps.

GrEat App .,. And much more than a task switcher .,. Attaches a button to screen edge and allows multiple screen grouping and app organization for quick lanching .,. i use it and also its sister soft button app mentioned above.

This has to be one of the best apps I have ever seen on android. Great drawing app and is free. The full version is only .99 too if anyone is a professional. This could turn your nook color into a viable sketch book.
Are you talking about SketchBook?

Whichever one is from Autodesk. You might be right about the name. I will edit.
anyone have an apk? The only access I have to the android market is through a cupcake emulator.
Here you go
by any chance has anyone installed this on the nook? any luck saving a drawing or similar? seems you probably need the menu button but the soft keys and the status bar is gone
SketchBook in fact, IS amazing! I splurged and bought the $0.99 version. Once I learned how to use layering and import pics, the whole process became very easy. Controls are very intuitive. Maybe we could post pictures we've done in this thread? I'd like to see how others have used it.
Looks interesting
How do you get it to go full screen? the notification bar covers up the bottom buttons.

To get the menu button to show up using SoftKeys, make sure SoftKeys is set as your default launcher. Single tap of the N button should take you to your favorite launcher (Zeam, ADW, LauncherPro, etc.) and a double-tap should open Softkeys where you can tap Menu > New or Gallery > Save or Don't Save.

Mine was full screen by default. Maybe try reinstalling? What are you using as your Launcher?
I just purchased Sketchbook Mobile app & it installed, but I don't see it in the app drawer. If I go to the market, it said "installed". If I click on it I get an option to open & I can & it works, but even after a reboot it doesn't appear in my app drawer.
Any ideas? BTW It doesn't show up in my uninstaller app either. Can I re download it somehow?
Update: Uninstalled & reinstalled & finally found it. Maybe I just missed it. Wasn't looking for "SBM" descriptor! They should have mentioned that it would be named that!!!

I use Zeam. I'm new to android though. Does the launcher influence whether or not the notification bar is visible in apps?
also, my dpi is set to 200. I've found that I can hit the button at the bottom by tapping just a hair above the notification bar.
It can. Under menu>preferences>general you'll find the fullscreen option. You also have the option to toggle it under the gestures menu in Zeam.

I did some drawing on my Nexus S some time ago, I attached the result. I'm still waiting for my NC to be delivered, can't wait to use SBM with a bigger screen!
patience paid off!
I remember first using that SB on my laptop and then it was the only reason that I was going to buy an iPad. I waited hoping that it would come to Android and my patience paid off. It's surprisingly stable on the NC but it's crazy fast on my Evo.
I love this app
Could someone please download the app from the market, setup and let me know if you any text freezing while typing, scrolling issues while on the Internet or XDA App? It was messing with my phone but would like to know if others have issues too. (BTW... I really like the App)
Thanks

Wave Launcher is fully customizable. You can change the size, location and even thickness of the gesture-area. To change it, look for "Gesture-area presets" in the Settings screen.
The setting the works for most people and is my personal favorite is "Bottom Left - 20%". It will never interfere with the keyboard or scrolling this way.
Note that you can also have Wave Launcher automatically disable in Landscape mode which is often used for typing, games, etc.
The app is very powerful and highly customizable, please go through all the settings to make sure you make the most out of it.
Any reports guy's?

Used it and it interefered with a lot of things going on on the bottom of the phone such as opening the app drawer and typing. Just my experience others may vary.

As Mike said above.
I also tried it for a bit, and even changed the popup swipe location but it is just OK. I think bottom corner 20% was the one that worked best for me, but even then I would accidentally press the Home button. Sides are for screen sliding already, and top is for notifications, so there is not much free room to swipe around. Its a fine launcher, but I did not find it useful enough to keep.
I thought it would let me make a gesture to swipe it onto the screen, not follow my finger around everywhere, to where I cant even get rid of it without the awkward swipe back into the same corner of the screen.
What it should have is a setting on how far to follow you across the screen, so if I swipe up from bottom corner, it appears, then it follows me around but only until I get to say 50% of the screen height, then it goes away.
That way, if it appears accidentally, I dont have to swipe is back down, but simply continue the swipe up motion until it dissapears.
I tried it but didn't care for it. Holding the Home screen button essentially does the same thing. Aloso, If you're running stock then you've got your most recent apps in the notification drop down. Unless you are constantly switching between apps, it's pretty pointless.
I use mine for a quickdial and store a few contacts there. so far it hasn't interfered too much
Thanks for your feedback guys!

Swipe Switcher

Enjoy guys.
Thanks, installing now. I've been looking for other ways to toggle applications (really used to assigning hardware keys on a BlackBerry for SMS and Email).
It looks like it just goes to the last used program, so you're essentially just switching between two at a time. Or am I doing something wrong?
Edit: Duh. Settings. You can customize the action depending on what part of the screen you swipe from. I have my top left set for the previous application, and the bottom left for messages. I disabled both right hand ones.
Pretty neat actually, but I'm fine using Home long press for recently used.

Home long press *only* gives you recently *used* apps. Which is great and all, I use it too. But this allows a different way to go about it, giving you not just a "back" button but sort of a "forward" button too.
A very big difference is it allows you to use any of the corners to open any app or shortcut you want.
That allows easy access whether you've *recently* used a program or not.

There is another app called Swipe Pad that is similar and very customizable.
https://market.android.com/details?id=mobi.conduction.swipepad.android&feature=search_result
I found it worked well enough but I wasn't a big fan. I am very anti bloatware and while that app technically wasnt bloat.. its an "unecessary" addition to android that I dont find useful. Just thought my peers would enjoy it and they have lol. so I'm happy
My home button had been acting up as of late, to remedy this I use an app called swipe pad to get me to home screen and other frequently used apps when I need. I am looking for a way to call up ICS recent tasks overlay with a shortcut so I can access it via swipe pad, anyone with a solutionor an idea to point me in the right direction?

interesting, searched for this a lot and ended empty hand, lets see if any other can come up with a solution
should be possible
Interested too
I was redirected by Notification Toggle releaser to this thread:
http://www.android-hilfe.de/2534489-post5.html
Where it gives code to do it via an app
And, he released a process apk that will use screen swipe to launch the recent apps from ICS here:
http://www.android-hilfe.de/tools/190260-recentlauncher-unsichtbarer-recent-apps-softkey.html
Now if someone can code an apk to be launched instead of a process...
I used "Button Savior" on my old phone when the menu button was playing up.
It does have a home button, but i dont know if it supports long press.

Thank you for pointing me to that app
It filled all my needs
Hm, that's good to know!
Apex and Nova launchers now support this as a gesture toggle from home too
No more need to a third party app
yeah apex launcher is the best solution, it's wonderful!

i use apex pro and it is stable for me..i have tested nova too but i prefer apex..
Great!

I wonder if there is an app that can allow a rooted user to hold on the back key for the recent task instead of the home button..

There is one released in the market by FactoryWidgets called
Recent Apps Quick Button
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=factory.widgets.recentapps
So, I want to make a menu on tablet PC's running Android using an Website (locally hosted), in future an app when finished developing it.
I want to present the pad to our guests, but I think around 90% will "accidently" press HOME or previous or w/e to exit the app and use it for Facebook.
Now, the device should be locked so they can only browse the app or website. I don't buy them for google'ing or w/e.
I tried to find on XDA some treads about them, but can't find anything related to my question, especially when I type "lock" it just directs me to thousands of "parenting tools"
Has any one an idea bout what app or trick I could use?
Thanks in advance,
PVTD
Depends on the device. If it uses virtual buttons you can use "GMD Gesture control" to hide the navigation bar. Just make sure you use a gesture no one will accidently use.
If it uses "physical" software keys you can edit the "atmel-touchscreen.kl" file in system/usr/keylayout/ and remove the functions from the keys.

Thanks, I'll try that right away and let you know.
Ps i use a Acer Iconia a100 for testing, but i'll buy a few cheap 10" tablets.
Did you ever make any progress on this? I too am looking for an app that acts as a sandbox to launch other apps with controls you have mentioned. All of the kids apps are launchers that still let you exit the interactive app. Instead, I want to select the app and restrict the user from menus or exit.
