As usual, I am not responsible for anything that happens to your phone.
Requirements:
Rooted myTouch 4G
Android 2.2/2.3
Fingers
Brain
Root Explorer (or similar)
I had a request for a BIOS style boot animation in my splash screen thread. So here is what came up with. I used two different style animations as my base. The first came from frysee, whose N1 BIOS this was modified from. The other came from jeckyll. I used the same style as his animation for the HD2. Both have minor differences from the originals and of course they have the specs from our phones.* These are also very generalized so they can be used with any 2.2 ROM. Enjoy!
Instructions Android 2.2:
Copy/download the animation's zip to your SD card
Open Root Explorer
Rename the file to TMUS_bootanimation.zip (Only for stock/iced glacier. Name may change for other roms. CM 6 it should be bootanimation.zip)
Copy the animation to /system/customize/resources (don't forget to mount the resources folder as r/w before copying)
Done!
Instructions CM 7:
Copy/download the animation's zip to your SD card
Open Root Explorer
Copy the animation from your SD card to /system/media/ (don't forget to mount the media folder as r/w before copying)
Done!
Instructions for copying with Android Commander by neidlinger (see original post here / pictures are in original post)

Five easy steps using "Android Commander" Source for Android Commander
Pre-reqs
1: phone
2: drivers to connect your phone to your computer
3: Android Commander
4: brains and the ability to follow directions
1: open Android Commander and make sure you have Root Access, Bottom left corner.
2: Navigate to the target folder, you can use the address bar below the window to get there quickly. IE Gingerbread you'd type in "/system/media/"and it will take you directly to that folder.
3: delete the bootanimation
4: Push the bootanimation to that folder
5: use adb shell to check for animation.
my pictures below are for Gingerbread.
if you screw up your phone, it's your fault.

You can test your animation by opening a command window and typing
adb shell
bootanimation
exit with Ctrl+C
(This can also be done through the terminal emulator, though I'm not sure how to exit. I tried it and had to use adb to reboot. So I don't recommend doing it this way! )
Also, with the second animation, there was a request for a splash screen that said loading. That is included here as well. Instructions for
flashing can be found in my thread for custom splash screens.
There is also a new splash screen that matches the CM 7 animation. Instructions to flash are the same.
Thanks to jayizzbakk for being my guinea pig for the Android 2.2 animations!
And thanks to macheteZen for all his input and testing for the CM 7 animation!
Downloads are available in the next post.
*If there are any mistakes on the specs of the phone, please let me know!!! I will gladly modify these that way they are perfect!
Here are the downloads.
The boot animation for CM 7 is named bootanimation.zip
CM7BIOSLoad.img is a splash screen for the CM7 animation.
All others are for Android 2.2
wow thats awesome thank you!
i'm interested to so know how to plug these into a AOSP ROM.
You using CM7?

Edit: It looks like you should just have to name it bootanimation.zip. Then copy/push it to /system/media. If this doesn't work let me know and I'll see what I can come up with.

This is fantastic! I just put it on my NC and I love it! I might reboot just so i can see it. Thanks for sharing.
A handy command for testing (which should be done in ADB SHELL ONLY) is "start bootanim" and "stop bootanim". The reason I say adb shell only, is that you can't really stop the animation if you start it from within a terminal app on the nook.

Kit, have you posted the CM7 one on the CyanogenMod forums? Who knows, maybe they'd use it. It's really nice, the only thing I don't care for is the text you used for the "POWERED BY"... but that's just personal preference.
Out of curiosity, what software do you use to create those?
How come when I use the "start bootanim" command the animation is so laggy?

if you're using rootexplorer, or similar app, you could go into /data/local and delete the bootanimation.zip, then paste the bootanimation.zip you want to use there, and reboot, it should work just the same
just make sure you rename the animation zip you want to use to bootanimation.zip

2. Manually Add Animations: should work for most roms
This process will be helpful for those wanting to mix and match animations from the folders. In fact, why don't you create your own mix and post it here so everyone else can appreciate your awesomeness. I'll add new mixes below if they come in.
-Simply get a hold of the anim folder with the animations you want to use and the framework-res.apk from the rom you're interested in modifying (/system/framework/framework-res.apk).
- Open up the framework-res.apk in 7zip (right click on it, and select "open archive").
- Drag the anim folder with the animations (which you can download below) into /res folder in your framework-res.apk. This will replace the files currently in /res/anim.
- Exit out of 7zip.
- You now need to push the modified framework-res.apk onto the phone. You can do this by placing the modified framework-res.apk in the root sdcard folder, and entering the following into terminal emulator on your phone or using ADB when the sdcard is mounted:
su
mount -o rw,remount -t ext3 /dev/block/mmcblk1p21 /system
cp /sdcard/framework-res.apk /system/framework
mount -o ro,remount -t ext3 /dev/block/mmcblk1p21 /system
reboot
If you're using terminal emulator, your phone will probably reboot before you finish re-mounting and/or typing reboot.
If you want to install the framework-res.apk that you just made in CWM recovery you can put it in this .zip make sure to put your framework-res.apk in the framework folder for this to work Your anim .zip
3.ninjamorph insatll find it in the market.
- create a new project of your framwork-res.apk.
- on your sdcard put the anim you want in this folder but first extract the folder out of the .zip first. (sdcard\androidthemes\workspace\framework-resapk\res\anim)
- make a copy incase you dont like the altered animations!!!
-replace the folder attached with the one in this zip
-go back to ninjamorph and finish project your phone should automatically reboot and there ya go animations are changed.
These will work with any rom and any phone enjoy
If you have any prob please post witch animation you used, that did not work so i can look into it.

The custom one. I had just installed .5 though so I just did a reinstall and I was fine. Maybe I'll try again later tonight. I really liked the animations in the doctored version of SC you posted originally. Maybe I'll just pull the /anim file and replace the one in my framework-res though. I didn't mean to sound ungrateful. I really appreciate the work you put into these. I just wanted to post a warning in case there is something specific to the AOSP Froyo that would keep this from working.
Edit: Just tried again in MM and it worked fine. I must have messed it up the first time. Thanks again for the awesome animations!

It might be kinda stupid to some, but i think it's pretty neat and unique...

The link appears to be broken, does anyone else have the .zip?
Edit: works, awesome thx
this is by far my favorite boot animation, thanks so much for this
i have two questions though, one a lot of times when booting up the animation can lag slightly, is there any tweaks i can do to improve the performance or is this generally how it goes for everyone?
my other question is more of a request actually, I would like the version that you had mentioned that did not have the spinning 3d letters, is that still available somewhere? i didn't see a link
I assume it's because it's loading stuff in the background.
Edit: I just installed it, and yeah, it is noticeable. You can clearly tell where the AT&T Logo is supposed to display because it gets real smooth.
But if you look at the original loader, its noticeable that its also laggy. It's just less because there isn't much to look at. It's like if the Windows 7 boot animation lagged, you can't really notice since there is almost no noticeable difference between frames.
OMG I LOEV YOU NOTACH!! you've answered my prayers! now to dl and try this out
edit: wow looks beautiful man good job!!! still a bit laggy initially i wonder if there are some tweaks i can do
edit2: second and third boots were much faster, but still a bit choppy
I have created a bootanimation of this video by LSU from the 1:01 minute mark until the 1:16 minute mark with a few changes made in there. It works as it should on the computer with this bootanimation previewer.
If anyone can try it out and let me know if it works for them that would be awesome. Or If anyone can take a look and tell me if I did something wrong that would be great too.
The file is roughly about 11MB
Thanks!
Also make sure you do nandroid just in case. Although if it doesn't work you just will see a blank screen when it boots up.
Installation should work as follows:
Root Explorer method:
1. Rename your boot animation to bootanimation
2. Put it on your SD card
3. Open Root Explorer and copy bootanimation.zip to /system/media. This will replace the existing boot animation
4. Reboot your phone
ADB method:
1. Make sure you have downloaded android sdk
2. Put android sdk in C:\
3. Set the directory of command prompt to C:\android-sdk-windows\platform-tools. Click here for a video tutorial.
4. Rename your boot animation to bootanimation and put it in C:\android-sdk-windows\platform-tools
5. Open cmd
6. Type in order:
-adb remount
-adb push bootanimation.zip /system/media/bootanimation.zip
-adb reboot
ok you had a few problems.
1) you had the desc files named Part 1 and it should be Part1(no space)=fixed
2)you needed to remove the boarder from the images=fixed
3)i resized the images and turned the last 3 in jpegs and in one copy turned all images 180 degrees(landscape) which in turn made the whole file smaller(your 10.92mb --mine 6.58mb
4)i made them flashable and added the LSU fight song(remix)
not trying to take over your bootanimations just easier to fix and then let you see the changes.
I greatly appreciate it. Very new at it, and just trying to see what I can do. Thanks again!
no problem.
just rip one open to see the changes i made to them and you can use one as a template to help on your next one.
This is awesome guys thanks! I live in baton rouge and I've been looking for anything with Lsu.

Is there any way to port this to the Galaxy Nexus. I tried the zip but it did not work. If it matters I'm running AOKP 20.
Never mind. Figured out myself. Just used working zip and put your boot animation in it.
I'll see what I can do. I'm sure it's just a resizing issue along with the proper paths. The zip is for the sense paths not AOSP paths.
If not I'm sure dased can assist.
