Best Android Text-To-Speech Voice - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So yesterday I found this new app by the creator of Edwin called "Smarter Alarm"
What it does is read news, facebook bdays, calendar, and other items AS your daily alarm....very similar to how JARVIS did in the Ironman movies. It's an amazing idea but unfortunately the Android voices just make it suck currently.
I went through quite a few voices yesterday TRYING to find one which is fluid or nice-sounding. So far I think I like Loquendo Susan the best though it's very far from perfect.
Can anyone suggest what are the best Android voices? Paid or free.
On the side: Wouldn't it be cool if a developer could remake the JARVIS voice as an Android system voice? Imagine the awesomeness...

good call.... UP

Ivona.
Sent from my MB525 using xda premium

For italian I'd say Loquendo.
Unfortunately, it's rendered in very low bitrate and sound fugly on a car stereo...

Svox I use is simple and mostly works.

I use SVOX Victoria (UK English)

Hey, this is the CTO of iHear Network. Our users tend to prefer SVOX and Ivona, but my favorite is the relatively new, CereProc Adam, which is currently going for $1.60 on Google Play. Ivona is free and has great sound quality, but also requires a >250MB data download which can take a while.

Does CereProc Adam have a trial to test the voice? Also how much of a data requirement does it have? I'd like to use ReadBoox to have my logitech revue (google tv) read audiobooks from the attached HD but it only has 512mb of shared internal storage/sdcard so the 250mb of ivona kills it.
Hmm Adam states "Please note, this voice is currently not supported on Android v4.0." which probably leaves out honeycomb 3.1 as well. The only demo is on their webpage as well which tells me nothing about how much data it needs etc. I tried the ivona kendra and amy voices and they are ok....I need to try svox victoria as I hear it's the best of that bunch....I need a good voice if I'm going to be listening to long audiobooks with it.

Holy crap! I've been using SVOX voices (Grace specifically) for a while and did not even know about IVONA. Some of the IVONA voices are superb and way better then anything else on SVOX. Sadly, the best IVONA voice (Salli) is NOT available for Android yet.....its damn good though. I'm using Amy until Salli gets released. Thanks for the info guys

Very good

Come on no one has a jarvis voice ?

Considering Cereproc
I settlted on IVONA, despite the large download. The lag time before responding is a bit of a nuisance. I'm considering Cereproc (which now supports Android 4+). Has anyone else used it lately?
It's been some time since anyone's updated. Has anyone any other feedback?

Hi, I just tried William English TTS Cereproc voice, with one of the comments saying it sounds like jarvis from a user, so wrong!
It sounded like a rubbish angry frog voice on my Galaxy S3 using tasker, refunded and uninstalled straight away

[Q] Grooveshark hack?

Anyone knows how to hack the Grooveshark mobile app into thinking my account is subscribed to Grooveshark anywhere? Grooveshark is like the best app to stream free music, create playlists etc etc on the clouds.
Why don't you guys share your methods of discovering music on the go?
In other words, what's a good way to discover music, check out artistes, browse albums and enjoy songs on the go with an android in hand?
buuuuuuuuuumpp....??
In other words, do you guys know any good method for stealing?
No hack. If you like, pay for it. $30 for a year is nothing compared with what you get from grooveshark.
BUT, grooveshark isn't good at all at discovering music. I don't like radio function in Grooveshark. The best app for it is Pandora. And it's free.
Use TinyShark, its not nearly as polished and doesn't work quite as well but it gets the job done. https://market.android.com/details?id=com.exigo.tiny&feature=search_result

Nope, I don't see that as stealing.... It just works like grooveshark on a desktop browser. You get what you want to listen only online, you don't own the mp3 or anything. Sadly, the mobile version of grooveshark doesn't give its users these privileges...

Oh nice!! I think I'll make do with this first until I find myself a better option.
Opening grooveshark in dolphin HD browser with desktop user agent option seems to work for me too... But yeah, the page is too big for easy viewing on a phone's screen...
go to html5.grooveshark.com. sorry for bumping an old thread
dude.. GS Anywhere costs $5 a month... Get over it and pay those devs. They kick ass and Grooveshark is the best program on the interwebs. So drink one less beer a month and have as much music as you could ever possibly handle.
GS radio is kinda lame, admittedly so.. However you can upload new music to GS and it automatically puts it in your music. So that's pretty damn cool. If you can't find it on GS then just put it there. I do this all the time with new music I find shortly after it is released.

Ivona is one of the better Text-To-Speech alternative I've come across

If you guys are tired of the robotic TTS voice for our phones, you guys should try this app out. It's awesome. I use Amy UK voice. Sounds sexy lol. So far it works for google nav, EVA voice assistance, Iris, any other app that uses the phones built in TTS. IVONA can be found in the Market and require downloading selected voice to your phone.
I think I found out about this app via Androidspin tweet.
I like the Svox Classic TTS myself, with the Victoria UK, but to each their own I guess. It's just nice to know there are alternatives to the robot.

I've just tried Svox. Is there any free UK voices? It seems all the voices you have to pay for.

I have been using this same setup for some time now.
Have really enjoyed it so far, and a nice change to the stock voice.
Well worth the money.

[Q] New Android user: I need advice about a good music player

Hello Everyone,
I just recently switched from an iPhone 4S and to a Galaxy Nexus on Verizon. So far I'm enjoying my experience. I experimented with Android in the past by buying a Nexus One when it was first released. Didn't enjoy the experience for a few reasons, but my main concern was with the way Android handled music. We're talking Eclair and Froyo days, now.
Recently, I ordered a beat-up, used Nexus One to travel overseas and found that Gingerbread had ironed out a lot of the music woes than it's firmware predecessors had. Mainly, the "unknown artist" thing, that I couldn't find any help.
Right now, I'm searching for a good music player that has specific features. Remember I'm an iOS user, and some of this stuff they had in their stock music app. Right now, I'm using "Android Music", not "Google Music", mind you. The reason for this, is because I'm familiar with it from my N1 days. I know there are better apps out there, but I don't want to download 100 apps that don't do exactly, or at least mostly want I want to do.
So here's the meat of the conversation, I'm looking for a music player that can do the following:
1. Transition between songs to be seamless, if the song is meant to blend into the next. (I don't want a stuttering version of Dark Side of the Moon)
2. Audio ducking. When I receive a message or an email, the music player I have now stops the song entirely. It's a jolt especially if you're driving and really annoying. This app needs to have audio ducking.
3. The ability to have voice control. I want to be able to hit the google mic button and say, "Play "Paranoid Android" by Radiohead" and it will play (sort of like what Siri does). But, as of iOS5, a huge annoyance I had with Siri is that she played JUST that song and didn't transition to the rest of the album. I've been testing beta 2 of iOS6 and it looks to have been fixed now. But I want that iOS6 feature with voice control. I know there are apps that do that, because my GN says there are when I try to request a certain song.
The rest of these are nice, but not deal breakers:
4. Perhaps a way to play audible formatted audiobooks? I'm not sure of the Android Version of the Audible app can download them offline, but I'd love to continue my audiobook addiction with Android.
5. A good, easy to use UI. Going from a 3.5 inch to a 4.6 inch phone is a big transition. I drive a good distance to work, and I want to be able to change songs and such without pancaking your grandma.
Those are my requests. I know that the Google Music app seems to have replaced the old music app that I'm using, but I don't want to use Google Music as my main driver. For a while now, I've been uploading to GM and I know there is an ability to download them offline. It's cool feature if I'm in a bunch, but I don't want to have to do that all the time. I like keeping a significant amount of songs on my phone at all times, and I don't want to have to scroll through a bunch of stuff I'm not currently listening in heavy rotation. It wastes time and remember, your grandma's life is at stake if I'm behind the wheel.
It sounds sort of picky, but I'd expect that from a lot of Android users, because I was picky on iOS. I jailbroke the very first iPhone even before it had an app store, and I did it every time I had the chance. I love options. At this point it seems like the stock app for music on Android is not cutting it for me, but I know there are options out there. Please advise, and thank you very much for your help, and reading my ramblings.

Apple Music For Android

Is there anyway to play local files on Apple Music or put them in a file folder. Thanks
I don't know If I'm on the right thread, but I think it's not necessary to open another one.
I'm really enjoying Apple Music since it's stops the beta test. I'm only missing an application or a method to scrobble my songs to Last.Fm.
Anyone knows some?

Well it's August 2017 and nothing is still available?? I thought that they would be more Apple Music Android users. Bummer is that I just got 6 months free subscription with EE here in the UK. But I am unlikely to use it cause I am an avid Last.FM user. Any help would be appreciated!

Nothing yet, I've tried a lot of things. I'm still using Apple Music and I'm scrobbling my songs manually using this site (it's unlimited) https://ows.elamperti.com/
It's annoying to do it, I know, but it's the only way I've found to not give up Apple Music or Last.Fm

Because Nokia made a great decision, to use pure Android. The smoothest and fastest Android of all. Besides the Google Pixel- Pixel 2, there is no other flagship with pure Android. You even have Google lens and "ok Google" with screen off, working. You have Android 8.1, when Galaxy S8 is right now updating to 8.0! For almost half the money.... Think about it....
I found this app that works very fine

I use "music folder", I love this app, it's simple but powerful at the same time.
Very very low battery drain.
I tried it for a few weeks and then I bought it, also to reward the work done.

Regarding this decision, I'm glad they took it and that's why I love the new Nokia.
However they could implement some little features like the screen-on when there is a notification coming.
Also their glance screen is still a far cry that the one used in Lumias, in every aspect (aesthetic, features, battery consumption).
I'm not sure if Nokia / HMD is really working under the hood or if they just push Google updates and that's it.

Isn't that what pure Android is all about? Pure Google. Fast updates and stock experience. I think I prefer fast updates, to have a secure and fluid device, than little tricks, that you mostly find in apps on play store anyway.
btw... On WhatsApp, sms and a few more apps, there are notifications on lock screen. And screen turns on. Just not for all apps.
If you look at the phone, the only downside, is it's own camera application. It sucks. Since I replaced it with Google camera, the phone became complete!
Yes you're right and that's why I chose Nokia too (that, + the fact that I'm a fanboy of the brand).
I know that Whatsapp wake up the screen with notifications, the whole point of my post was that, YES, Pure Android is fantastic and so far Nokia do a good job with updates. But maybe they could, like Sony for instance, just make 2-3 little additions on firmwares that won't slow down the updates that much, but will be great for users. For Instance, while under 8.0, it was nearly impossible to enjoy music streaming via bluetooth because it was broken (thanks Google). I don't have this problem on 8.0 with the GS8, and that's because Samsung worked on it.
Now with 8.1, no stuttering anymore, but as a lot of devices, Spotify is just shut down after 30min.
I would appreciate that HMD/Nokia put a little more effort on these type of problems.
I also agree that GC makes an HUGE difference.
I use poweramp and it works great. I love my nokia 8.
PlayerPro also work great for me, although I bought the Pro version years ago so dunno about the free version.
Same with Black Player, small and great.
If you have lots of albums N7 player is a uniquely brilliant in how it presents and navigates them.
I bought playerpro back when I had a HTC wildfire. That's how long I e used this music player and how happy I am with it. It's truly stood the test of time. My favourite feature is being able to download album artwork from the internet.
@venezolano69, I am currently using Onkyo HF player and is pretty good. It has various preseted HQ settings available and has a decent sound quality! It is worth to try if you are seeking for a new music player with good performance.
@machhho, if you are seeking for an audio recorder, let's try the one made by Sony. Both of the software can be found in the Google Store
I have been using BlackPlayer and it's really the best one out there in my opinion.
How can I record calls (App)?
I am now on Asus Music downloaded from APK mirror. Runs great and also has an equalizer. Still using since Asus zenfone 2 Laser and still great
Try shuttle music player
