Okay, so CM7 is out and everything. I know that the Galaxy S phones aren't close or unknown how far or close we are to finally getting this. I know it might sound dump but my girlfriend just got the mytouch 4g for free and I've been playing with it. I noticed that when you go to settings there is an option for theme selection. Is that how CM works? I see all these themes out there from CM and all of them seem to have that same looking interface when selecting themes. I don't have friends that are into phones as I am so none of them know about this stuff.
Thanks in advance guys!
That is what they incorporated from T-Mobile, who, to their credit has an account on github and gave the code... impressive to t-mobile.
and of course, a lot of people theme for the best rom in town.
So you're saying that T-Mobile integrated the CM theme selector on the stock ROM? So can I just download any of the CM themes and just apply them?
no, not at all.. t-mo had code on github for theming, CM incorporated it into CM7
Ahhh, I see. Any idea how close or far the Galaxy S line is from getting CM7?
there are buggy versions already... source would help, a lot.
I have heard about the source that we need but didn't the update just pop in? I'm using the Bionix-V ROM which is based on the official 2.2. I'm sure that it's the source that we are looking for? I'm not sure where to ask but I want get involved with the community see if I can help out with the CM. I've been looking into the CM7 for the mytouch 4g for my girlfriends phone and I'm really liking it!

Uhh no.. 959d is facinate(telus) it looks just like vibrant (u.s version)
I897 is att ccaptivate.
One more thing, how can they have source code before us when they don't even have 2.2 yet. Att have not release the 2.2 for captivate(u.s)yet. The 2.2 that was released while back was for Canadian captivate( Rogers)

Until we get the 2.3 source, we will be quite far from CM7, huh?
Can anyone possibly explain to me exactly how CM works though? I don't have anyone that's as enthusiastic as me when it comes to phones. I don't have a phone that has a CM capable ROM. Also, the videos just show the ROM but don't actually show the feature.
All I know is that CM allows you to customize your phone past the limits that are put on it. That being said, does it allow you to customize things individually or do you have to have a fully skinned theme or something along those lines?
Will we ever get a 2.3 source?

Since not many devs are working on it it will take a while. If I'm not wrong if we get 2.2 source it can get ported.
Mytouch 4g and many other phones don't have 2.3 source but they have cm 7. I guess its because this is Samsung first Android phone ( I think) and its more complicated than HTC phones. I could be wrong, after all I know nothing about coding

Yeah, I have noticed that almost all new phones that HTC comes out with, including the mytouch 4g that my girlfriend just got herself, there are a lot of CM themes and ROMs for it. Even though it came out a few months ago, while as Vibrant like half a year ago.
I did look around, it does seem like the Galaxy S line of phones is the first of android for Samsung. I'm thinking this is the biggest reason that they don't have this many developers.
It seems that there a plenty of new Galaxy S phones heading this way, so perhaps there will be more developers for our community.
I would like to help out as much as I can. I am no developer but perhaps I can help out with beta testing and all that fun stuff.
Samsung and HTC are very different... transitioning from one is not the easiest. HTC is certainly easier.
eugene has 6.1 running on his forums
I tried that CM 6.1 and I just couldn't get it to work at all. My CWR would always crash everytime I tried to do it.
On the other hand, I know HTC has been making android phones for some time now, there has been a lot more work and development done with them. Samsung is fairly new, I don't see why in the near future there will be a lot more development for Galaxy S phones, considering that they just announced a new line of these phones this year. Possibly a stable CM mod.

well until samsung gets off their ass and release source for 2.2 and then 2.3 we will never see true cm6 or cm7 on our phones yes lots of ports but never true cm
So I had always heard that we would see CM development ramp up after the 2.2 source was out. I went over to http://cmsgs.com/mediawiki/index.php?title=Main_Page to see how things were going. This place is almost dead except for git updates and a little irc discussion. I was thinking it may just be because so few of the developers on XDA know about CMSGS. Well its a project to put AOSP builds of cyanogen on SGS phones like the Vibrant. If you dont know about the project head over and stur up some conversation, and maybe some code.

On a serious note, I think everybody really does know about Cyanogenmod (CM7) and if they had the capabilities and want to do so, they would be helping. I knew about CM before I discovered XDA. Somebody correct me if I'm wrong, but from my understanding, the reason CM7 is a slow going process right now is that the source to the drivers have not been released... That is unless the latest source release contains those...

Do you have a vibrant? Stupid question I know but its confusing when you have Nexus One and G1 on you signature. Anyhow how do you make a signature lol sorry? Well hopefully more people help the dev thats porting CM7.
A good CM6 isn't even out yet. Hence I see the purpose for it since the source code is out. Who cares about some broke ass CM7. We will have to wait months if ever the source code comes out for gingerbread on the vibrant. I see no point trying to port the CM7 to the vibrant at all. I do see a lot of sense to get a nice clean running CM6, hence the post is a good one.

We don't NEED source for CM7. Considering almost no phones have Gingerbread source, they wouldn't even be working on CM7 like they are if this was a deal breaker. You know the saying "don't knock it 'till you've tried it"? Maybe you should adhere to this as CM7 actually runs pretty well on the Vibrant already.
Now, to respond to the OP. I realize a lot of people were expecting some change in development speed for CM7 with the release of source, but there was no reason for this. Nothing has changed or should change. The source we have now is barely applicable if at all to CM7.
Honestly, though, if you look at the list of bugs, it's not that long or severe. The only real non-issue issue is the complicated installation, which they have no reason to improve until they're satisfied with the rom.

I think thats a good place to start, i would prefer CM6over any existing vibrant rom (sorry not a insult to existing roms)
If their were any dev's that really wanted CM on their Vibrant it would have been done by now or there is something that is really holding them back. I don't know why anyone would want to lose functionality for a little extra speed. Side by side CM7 on the Nexus S is almost identical to the Vibrant running BionixV, why would you want to give up video codec's and a better UI for that? I would love to get Bionix V on my Nexus over CM or stock Gingerbread any day.
I use to see Cyanogen as a god of android back when I had the G1. His ROM was the ONLY thing I ever put on my G1.
I know that the Cyanogen team really only does a lot with HTC handsets since HTC is AWESOME with giving out the source to their drivers. And I was so hoping to see it on my Vibrant, but in all honesty I've given up the dream of seeing a stable build for the Vibrant.
Samsung don't play nice like HTC with what sources they release so I know it's tough for CM team go get a 100% stable rom for Vibrant.
The devs we have here that do make roms for our phones are the greatest. Team Whiskey, Team Einherjar, Eugene, Master... They all do such great work and also calaborate and make my Vibrant so awesome and sleek. So honestly I am not holding my breath for a stable and easy to install CM Mod ROM for our phones. Tho I would like to see one, I'm totally happy with the ROMS we do have to pick from..
Anyways, Good luck to all of you devs who are working on porting CM over or working on an actual CM ROM for our phones.
But for now, I'm loving those ROMS we do have.
Ill help as soon as I can get a new motherboard for my pc

Im working on building a update.zip from CM source, but i cant promise ill succeed as there isnt a lot of documentation for this device due to the lack of people working on this branch of cyanogen. If i get a flashable update ill post it, maybe that will inspire someone who can actually dev and not just build existing source code.
Okay this is where im stuck, its a documentation issue look at http://cmsgs.com/mediawiki/index.php?title=Build_CyanogenMod_for_Samsung_Vibrant#Configure_Build
when i get to lunch cyanogen_vibrant-eng i get this error
Code:
build/core/product_config.mk:190: *** _nic.PRODUCTS.[[device/samsung/vibrant/full_vibrant.mk]]: "build/target/product/full_base.mk" does not exist. Stop.
** Don't have a product spec for: 'cyanogen_vibrant'
** Do you have the right repo manifest?
Im sure its a simple config fix, if someone can figure this out and update the code or the wiki we may have fixed the one part of the build process that scares devs away. Im too stupid to fix this

Frankly, I don't care about the Samsung programmes. If it can be turned off, then ok, but I'd rather have the whole CM experience.
This hardly seems like the right forum for this thread...
So what's the right forum, if not the Galaxy S II Android Development Forum?
Android Development should only contain threads based on actual projects/ROMs/kernels/etc being developed. Discussions about what may or may not be coming to the device should go in general. Best rule of thumb in my book: if you're not actually developing something yourself, a thread shouldn't be started here.
Sorry if I came off like a prick - I just know that this ends up becoming more work for the mods who have to comb through and move threads around.
Also I apologize for theoretically hijacking your thread - Just trying to help keep people in the know
hopefully it will get CM

The SGS2 is similar to the SGS in many ways, therefore CM will be difficult to port over.
Especially that there is no Nexus S 2 (a lot of CM7 is from the Nexus S)
Don't expect CM7+ to be running on the SGS2 anytime soon, although it probably eventually will. That's unless anything else happen (a/a genius comes along b/samsung open source more stuff c/Nexus S 2 is released d/sgs2 shares even more with the sgs than I though and current work can be ported over more easily)
This phone is fast enough without CM7. A clean up of the stock ROM, a new launcher and its sweet enough!

A shame that Cyanogen has chosen the G2x as his next phone. The Galaxy S2 is way better than the G2x.

Well, apparently they have a Galaxy S, otherwise there wouldn't be Release Candidates.
This is another one of those posts that says, "I haven't been keeping up with the Android/Vibrant OS build scene, what should I install now?"
The thing is, I'm hoping to hitch my Vibrant's wagon to a group that is going to stick with it for awhile. Now that Cyanogen has completely written off the Vibrant, and now that TeamWhiskey seems to have moved on (I've been very happily running their ROMs for quite awhile), are there any equally "major" groups working on Vibrant ROMs?
I'm actually still pretty happy with Bionix V, but I'd really like to give ICS a shot when the builds stabilize, and I'm wondering who I should start watching.
No offense meant to anyone currently working on an ICS ROM, of course. But you have to admit, certain groups tend to stick around a lot longer than others!
The best and most active developer right now is neobuddy and his team.

Yes that is what I meant lol, spell check for the win. I went to their site and looked at the devices supported and they had someone listed as an official Porter, but he said he could not help. Yep, I understand. I was just saying that if it does get ported to the I9000, which if probably going to happen if it comes to the original SGS family at all, it won't take more than 20 minutes to port it, and thats with the upload time being like 10 minutes.

Ditto.. I have wanted something like this on my hardware since Honeycomb 3.0 but Google never released the source for that and the 3.0 ports for the Vibrant never made it off the ground... However, tablet mode on ICS implements UI elements from 3.0 and the API's and frameworks were released for 4.0.. This ROM is a stroke of genius with it's "Hybrid Mode".. Guys, the Nexus S has been added under supported devices! They have a thread going over there!!
I'm not sure but I think the I9000 forums have a way of porting the Nexus S ROMS. Just hope I9000 gets it.
I was looking into it how they ported that Joy OS mod and Lewa OS mod but I have not had time to fully implement their techniques... They do seem to have ways..
Not everything can be done for us users but it would be great if this from would garnish some looks from some of our more seasoned devs..
I am considering rolling up my sleeves and messing with some packages on this one though if it is not picked up soon ...
why the hell not.. although....
That whole EU ICS error going around in the Cappy section is kinda scary though.. Very little coverage on these Vibrant threads outside of Moped mentioning it and one small topic...
That is the only thing that is freaking me out with flashing anything and moving away from my current setup...
The EU is a problem on vibrant also. If you go to the aokp thread you will see lots of people have gotten EU with the last build.

Yes, that is what is spooky about it.. Like I said earlier Moped_Ryder in our development section discussed his reservations about using any additional ICS rom in his thread for his rom due to the EU errors people with Vibrant and Cappys are having.. He also commented on a users topic who posted about a brick question in the Vibrant dev section which seems to be another EU error.
.. As I also stated earlier there is hardly any info/awareness outside of random posts here in the Vibrant section on XDA...
FYI
For anyone who gets a "reset phone" message on their Vibrant, whatever you do do not hit reset... Try restarting the device into recovery even with a battery pull without an external SD card plugged in.. I hear Odin back to stock is one thing to consider in case of these events or even using SlimIcs has proven to get the phone back up is but the internal sd may be gone so a etc/Vold.fstab editing may need to happen to boot off of external sd's...
Disclaimer... for anyone who had not read up on the EU errors Vibrant and Cappy owners are having, research it... EU stands for Encryption Unsuccessful and it seems too many data wipes may be the culprit.. many users have expressed going back to 2.2 and even Gingy in many cases, it seems to have less strain on our internal sdcards...
MP the developer of the Subzero kernel is also aware and looking into it perhaps being related to Kernel versions 3.X and up... This is something to keep an eye on folks... His effort is probably not a solitary one...

actually google took honeycomb and completely married it to ice cream sandwich, the two are one. ics on a tablet is the same that runs on a phone. theres a tiny switch in there that acknowledges a certain display-lenght treshold and then it drops the entire UI into tab mode. this was known for a longtime but unfortunately it trashes your phone. hybrid mode means we have hooks and rewrites sitting on top of ics aosp code, we recompiled the framework, and this stuff makes tablet mode more flexible - you dont get overlapping, apps wont be too small, you can adjust fontsizes, you can switch an app from mobileUI into tabUI and back. PA on top of it gives support for things that still break, it has a fixed market for instance, a fixed keyboard, a fixed launcher, etc. its an all-in rom for this kinda stuff.
battlekry leaving this is your hands as I wouldn't even know where to start.
