[Q] about the restart/unmounting problem - Optimus One, P500, V General

i know that the occasional restart and sd unmounting are somehow related and as far as i can tell the 2.2.1 update fixed that problem.my question is:is it possible to get the files responsible with the sd card from the updated firmware and install them on the 2.2 so that we fix the problem without having to deal with the other"features" provided by the update?i dont want to loose the root, custom recovery and all the other things.

2.2.1 doesn't fix the problem, changing your sdcard does.
other than that, it's merely coincidental.

i saw that on another forum.everyone who had that pb and updated the firmware said that the pb is fixed.
anyway.what kind of card should we get?kingston,sandisk...?class 2,4,6,10?

as good as you can afford.
I purchased a team 4gb class 6 and it fixed the problem.
most people however are going for the 4gb kingston class 4.

my phone had no problem for about one month since i got it with the 2gb included in the package.after 1 month it started to restart/unmount the card.so how can that be a hardware problem?i want an 8gb one.i guess im going to try my luck...

It's not software or hardware afaik, it's really the sdcard.
Seems like after getting some write cycles it starts bugging the crap out of itself.
Logic behind this deduction:
If it was software: it would probably be fixed with 2.2.1 & it wouldn't be fixed with another sdcard.
If it was hardware: it wouldn't be fixed with another sdcard nor 2.2.1.
If it was the sdcard itself: it wouldn't be fixed with 2.2.1 and would be fixed with another sdcard. (this is what happens)

thank you,Noejn for all the help.i got a class 6 one.hopefully that will work.

Just buy a 8gb class 6 sd card and it is fixed.

If you have rooted the phone dont upgrade
If you have rooted the phone dont upgrade.
Upgrade dont allow rooting.

Random reboots

My phone's taking up this habit of rebooting (or so) randomly and automatically. It doesn't show any error or message and just reboots about twice a day... How did i know... My music widget did not display the last song paused and the up-time duration in the battery status was only a couple of hours (when infact I haven't shut it down)
Does anyone face this problem? Two things that could have made things go bad:
1. Using Verbatim Class 4 8gb MicroSDHC (heard problems with 8gb cards)
2. I rooted my phone partially (z4root did not work, superoneclick worked till halfway but I was able to access the root. Is there anything called incomplete rooting ). And after deleting the useless pre-installed apps... unrooted (again partially ) so that I can visit the Service Centre if things go worse.
Will the phone face problems if it reboots every once in a while. I don't mind it as long as it does not give me errors
Thanks,
Have you tried another sd?
AFAIK and with what i been seing arround here, that can be a card fault.
Incompatibilitys or something like that. It whouldn't be the first device like that.
Second change will be a hardware failure, wich is worst...
In my viewing, everything that is not normal, it's not good for your device.
So you should try to find a solution for it.
Cheers
my bad... Provided wrong info in the last post.
My system uptime is 48hrs which means my phone hasn't rebooted. But my status since last unplugged is 3 hrs but I last charged my phone more than 12hrs ago and I haven't plugged it to a computer as well. This number haas changed twice today...
I am thoroughly confused... Don't think there is a problem with my sd card as the phone runs perfect... All the games and music stored in the card play without problems... Guess I'll have to investigate further.
If anyone has any suggestion do let me know
I had this problem, too. And yes, It's SD-card related.
The uptime counter doesn't reset every time, but the last unplugged time does, as you noticed.
I flashed with the OC kernel, and surprisily, my phone is now fully stable. I don't know if the kernel did really the trick, but you could maybe give a try...

Can you please elaborate. Flashed the OC kernel... with what?
Did you reinstall the original firmware? Thanks!
I used the custom recovery and I selected the "Flash from zip file" option, it was very simple once you get the custom recovery working !
It doesn't erase your data, and it doesn't replace the original firmware, it's only a patch.
Do I need to install the custom recovery or is it pre-installed?
I don't think it is pre-installed. The key combination is not working. The phone starts up as usual.
And do we need to be rooted to carry this out. I'll try a soft reset meanwhile....
EDIT:
I got it. Need to use this "recovery-RA-GNM-thunderg-1.1.0.img" file to enable the custom recovery. If I put this file in the root of the sd card, will the key combination work? And what about the flash file? I'm sure it'll ask for the flash file when i select the option flash from sdcard.
I've experienced similar behavior, mostly using 3D apps. Google's Nav will usually result in a freeze/reboot. Quadrant has done it many times. When I was looking in logcat and bugreport it was showing messages like:
W/SharedBufferStack(223): waitForCondition(LockCondition) timed out (identity=223, status=0). CPU may be pegged. trying again.
I can't be positive if the SD card is the culprit (I haven't had a chance to replace the stock card yet), or if it's a software or hardware problem. I've only rooted and modified build.prop to enable jit and stagefright...and that's it.
edit:
Phone just crash when I opened the new updated google maps. Attached the logcat if anyone can glean some useful info from it.
Mine is definitely SD card related.... Flashed the original firmware but did not help. The SD card kept unmounting and remounting (no rebooting though).
Finally went back to the bundled sd card and no problem so far... But my other 8gb card is working perfectly in other phones and the pc as well (very good transfer speed and all) Even when I had it in my phone it was snappy.
But I read that a new firmware has been released. hopefully that will sort the issue... Fingers crossed.

There is a new version of the firmware, V10E.
You need to try that one.
I have the same phone and have no problems running a PNY 8 gig. card. I would try to re-rom your device but, be sure to back everything up first. If problem still persists try a differant sd card. ( class 3 or higher) I am currently running Cyanogen 2.3.3 with kernal update 2.6.32.9. OC to 806mhz. Semms to be running just fine. I hope that helps out.

Hi, I also facing the sd card problem. Can I update to v10e because my phone is v10a and rooted?
Before you guys upgrade, try this ....
Copy out all the data from your SD card, format your SD from the device, then copy the data back.
In addition, if you have shifted any Application data using the Move to SD card feature, suggest you move it back.
I used to have the reboot once a day, now I don't have it anymore ...
Formatting didn't work for me. Factory reset worked for a couple of weeks, but still got SD card unmounts with no apps moved to SD. The only thing that worked was physically removing the SD.
friend i got Phone on this saturday till then I was having problem of random reboot .like every time i play with my phone . i am using class 2 trascend 8gb made in taiwan micro sd card (but the problem of unmounting never occured to me).Main problem was of the random reboot .Then i flashed my phone with Unofficial port of CyanogenMod 7link here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=946354 it worked so greatly and now i am running phone for more then 3 hours without any problem(hope this time will increase).

LG P500 reboots and sd card

Hello,
I'm a new owner of a phone with android, since a month ago. The problem with my phone is that some time ago it started rebooting about 2 times per day (in some cases rebooting even I'm not touching it)
I tried removing almost all applications and didn't work (the first app was task killer since I read that's not needed).
One thing that may be helping the phone rebooting itself is that some times I see this notification: "SD card removed unexpectedly".
I have a 8gb class 2 card. But I tried with a 4gb class 4 card and same message appear. I tried formating both cards and didn't work.
Anyone can please help?
Best regards,
Pedro
and my P500 do a restart the card SD (2GB, which was from the market) and probably due to the firmware of the LG (it has a .10 b) so I expect the update from LG that fixes the problem
Sent from my LG-P500 using Tapatalk
thousands of us are facing this problem. LG are idiots to have released the phone with such a glaring defect.
But also thousands of us doesn't have any problems with this. It's really strange and you can not say, that LG is idiots - maybe everything works before on testing. Maybe some factory failed in collecting, maybe some wrong series of components... maybe.... who knows.
One think is true - they should face up to problems and not do, that nothing happened.
So the only thing that I can do, is wait for an software update from LG? (perhaps android 2.3 resolve it?)

I doubt whether this is related to software, since other phones don't face this issue. The phone has crashed several times at the end of a call, and I couldn't even press the disconnect button. When the phone doesn't even be stable and do the basic phone features properly, nothing else matters.
I also had this problem.
SanDisk 8GB cl2: reboot 2-3 times daily. Best 1% / hour battery.
SanDisk 2GB cl2: remount frequently. 1% / hour battery.
Original card that came 2GB(Samsung?):NO reboot,NO remount, 2% / 8 hours (night) battery!!!
My sd card didn't remove but the device some times start a reboot, and after a few seconds it enter on the phone (after the text ANDROID when i can see the desktop), when the phone signs he's mounting the sd, the phone goes on reset again and do this for several times, and i can't acess to the device. Some times he works normally.
I tryied to start the device without the sd but when he resets he still reset even without sd, so i don't think this isn't a sd question.
Some one else have this problem?
I update to the v10b by lg suite yesterday. I dont have the random reboot problem anymore for the last 24 hr. and I play pocket legend and like ever 2 hours the phone must reboot with the v10a. Now I am very happy with the v10b. no reboot for the game playing but i felt the graphic is little bit slower than v10a. and I am also factory reset my phone after update. So I can tell is it because the firmware or some software on the card or the root causing the reboot. But I am sure I am a happy pocket legends player. I am also using my old nokia 8g class 4 sd card with the original sd back up.
After I update to v10n, I've been runing android whitout rebooting and unmounting for about 125 hours (and growing).
I can say the software solved the problem because im using same card and I didn't factory either the phone or card.
My software version is already v10b by default but I'm still experiencing this "sd card removed" problem plus my phone also reboots it self rarely...
I've read threads about this problem and they recommend updating the software to v10e...
I contacted LG about this: It seems that the reboot bug is SIM-card related. Here in germany, Eplus (and their retailers) SIM-cards seem to be affected.
hi after updating to 2.2.1 v10n i dont have sd card error and reboots that often but sometimes i cant see the apps installed on the sd card. has anyone noticed this too? after remounting the sd card i can again see the apps and can access them but it keeps on appearing and its quite annoying! plz help!
i have both problems rebooting sd card and disappearing apps
i also have v10n

Based on my experience, I'd say the reboot is triggered by the unexpected sd card removal after moving apps to the sd card. Until I've seen some working prove, I'd assume the idea with SIM-cards is just another theory.

I have the phone from late october and experimented a lot with this problem.
In my case it only happen if I move some apps on the sdcard, if I don't move any apps on the sd card, no reboot happens. Also it seem more frequent when data connection is not "stable".
Some user reported they were able to turn around the problem keeping wifi on all the time, but it is a solution I like
In the last couple of months I used the phone with all the apps on phone memory and never had the problem again...
I got this phone a week ago and it's been rebooting ever since.. I even updated to v10f and now it says something about the SD Card after reboot and the SD card wont work after that.. so I have to reboot manually for the SD card to become active again... this phone is nothing but headache... but I'm still happy with it..
Do custom ROM's also reboot randomly?
you need atleast a class 4 sd card, im using class 4 16 gb sandisk. Absolutely no problems at all.

I am not sure if this is true. And if anyone offers a better solution, just disregard this post as a load of BS...
That being said... If you still have the original sd card (rated class 2) that came with the phone, I think that's what's causing the problem. I basically had the same problem until I bought a class 4 sd card. Get rid of the "stock" crapware!
Yes. I would also try a faster sd-card.
If this is fixed you might want to look at a custom ROM. It's definately more stable then stock ROM.

[Q] SD Card issues on Gingerbread (CM7/OMFGB)

I recently encountered the issue with data dropping out on my phone, so I Odin'ed it back to stock and took it in to the local VZW store. They played with it for half an hour or so before giving up and shipping me a reconditioned unit.
I'd played with CM7 and OMGB/OMFGB before, but the show stopper bug for me was the phone not reading or even recognizing the SD card. (I have a PNY Class 10 32GB Micro SD card.) This was back in early August, and I remember reading a post somewhere stating that this issue had been laid to rest.
So this week, I gave both CM7 and OMFGB another spin, and damned if I didn't run into the EXACT same problem. I couldn't even get the phone to see my 32GB phone while doing the BML/MTS conversion. It would reboot, then I'd get the 20 second countdown for "Waiting for SD card to mount [20s]" So I had to run the installer from a freshly formatted 16GB card just to get it to see the card and finish the install.
My sequence went something like this:
1) Start from ED05 stock (either fresh from the factory, or via Odin)
2) Install cwm4_fixed_for_cm7-ODIN.tar via Odin
3) Boot into recovery, install cm_fascinatemtd_full-56.zip
4) Reboot, let phone boot once into Gingerbread, reboot again into recovery
5) After reboot, install Google Apps
Any suggestions? Am I going to have to reformat this 32GB card to get it working in Gingerbread? I've tried to avoid doing that, since there's about 20GB worth of music and videos that I don't want to re-transfer to it if I don't absolutely have to.
Rom manager does that to me sometimes. Do use it for awhile. Flash manually. But if you want to use Rom manager, go to Tom manager and press menu -> manually flash override -> select OK -> then Fascinate(MTD) -> Then clockwork 3.x.x will probably fix your issue. It fixed mine
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App
Fascinate phones do not recognize 32 GB cards afaik. The card, as I understand, must be no more than 16 GB. If anyone knows differently, please feel free to correct me...
Another Fascinating post by my XDA app...
I've used 32GB cards in mine for the past six months. No problems out of it, until I tried to run Gingerbread.
The max capacity is 32GB, so it won't take anything larger, but anything larger would be hideously expensive anyway.
im sorry to tell you but your SD card may be fried. EC09 is very notorious for "eating" your card. i know GB is awesome and all for whatever reason the ec09 modem doesnt like your phone so try another rom. MIUI FascinateMTD ate 3 of my sd cards. i suggest finding a rom that doesnt use the ec09 modem. give this a shot:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1242747 nice rom and you have the option to not use the modem. also is eh09.

the modem has nothing to do with fried sd cards... its a kernal issue that was supposed to be fixed. Fwiw I run the ec09 modem/radio on every rom I have tried with no fried sd card.

Yeah, I avoided anything running EC09 for just this reason, remembering the warning in GIANT RED LETTERS about EC09 eating SD cards. I actually started out with a SanDisk 32GB card in my phone, and after running into repeated problems with builds of CM7 and OMFGB, I gave up, bought the PNY card for my phone, and moved the SanDisk card over to my Acer Iconia tablet, where (after being reformatted) it has worked without any problems.
The 9/22 glitch is giving me sd card issues.
See here for details.

I'm back to Froyo for the moment because none of the GB ROMs play nicely with my SD card. The worst errors seem to have been fixed, but GB remains very finnicky about cards. It works great for some people but is unusable for others. This, of course, makes it nearly impossible to track down the background issues. I suspect things will remain largely the same until we get an official release. In the meantime, you can try different cards and see if one works for you.

I updated my Captivate from Froyo to Gingerbread, via Kies. The SD 32GB card, which has worked without issue for almost a year, no longer mounts after the update.
A friend from work ran into the EXACT same problem with the same setup.
A 16GB card mounts fine. The 32GB card works in other devices, like a camera or on my computer.
A complete wipe and re-install of Gingerbread didn't help.
I've been searching for information on this, and there are complaints about this problem, but so far I haven't seen any solutions or suggestions.
Has anyone seen or run into this?

Yes quite a few folks are having trouble with 32g sd cards...actually any card under a class 6 seems to be hit or miss, but almost all 32gb cards seem to be having trouble with mtd roms.
Damn cm7 ate my sd card. OH WELL, I upgraded from a class 4 to a class 10! And a stable release is the EH03 release, so try that. My sd card is good on that one. I heard somewhere that cm7 had some ec09 code in it, so maybe that's why this happened?

dont think its cm7 solely, it can happen on all mtd roms...and it really has not been pinpointed why some cards bork and others dont. The only conclusive fact is; a class 6 or higher 2,4,6,8, or 16gb sd card seems to be stable on mtd based roms.

I'm afraid to go buy another one and have it happen again. What should I do? It doesn't even mount in Windows anymore.
Samsung Class 2 16GB works fine for CM7/MIUI/Touchwiz/ MTD ICS, SanDisk class 4 32GB only works well with touch wiz / MTD ICS and my Samsung class 10 32GB is the same as my 16 works well with any ROM that's from my experience.

buy a class6 or higher sd card and your issue will be solved.
As I said in my other post:
Sounds like you need a new SD card. Some of the stock cards don't play well with MTD based ROMs. I think it's a speed issue, and MTD based roms assume cards are at least a certain speed. I would probably get a Class 10 microSD card (be careful if you get 32gb, there are known problems with some of them)
I bought http://www.amazon.com/AmazonBasics-microSDHC-Class-Memory-Adapter/dp/B0058GH4U0/ref=sr_1_12?ie=UTF8&qid=1335980268&sr=8-12 and have had no problems at all after!
thanks everyone for replying...i might have to just upgrade to a different card and see if that will solve the problem.
