[Q] USB Connect Issues - Vibrant Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

alright so my normal computer broke, so now i am using a ****ty lenovo ideapad
s10. i tried connecting usb, downloading drivers from samsung.com and here, and still no luck. I can mount the usb storage from my phone but im having trouble with download mode, the computer doesnt recognize it, and therefore ODIN doesnt. Right now im gunna flash all thru my phone but i would really like to get it working on the computer, any help ?
windows xp btw

One thing you can try that worked for me on a couple of machines that wouldn't recognize dl mode is the following. Download the 64 bit drivers, can be found through the vibrant bible, and unzip the folder, should come in .zip format. Then put your phone into dl mode, plug it into your computer, and let it detect the devices and not load the drivers. Once its recognized the unknown device, access your windows device manager manager, right click on the unknown device, choose update driver, do not let windows auto detect it, rather, manually install the driver by selecting "install from a specific location", then "include this location in the search" and use the browse button to navigate to the driver folder you unzipped. Let it do its thing and should then be recognized in dl mode.

[Q] OK, I have a real mess - Please Help!

I did an NVflash after struggling to load VEGaN 7 for a couple days figuring it was the partition issue that I have read about. Flash went off without a hitch - or so I thought.
I went to flash VEGaN 7 again, but my computer would not recognize connection via USB. Attempted to login to clockwork mod but instead I get message - "booting recovery image".
Thinking a factory reset might somehow free up my USB connection I did a factory reset - now I'm stuck in a bootloop.
So, to review--
I can't connect to PC via USB, Access CWM, or get past the bootloop.
BTW - I noticed while looking for options to connect to USB that it appeared my Internal and external SD cards switched locations after the NV flash. External, although not accessible was 12.9 gig and my internal showed slightly less than 1 gig.
Anyway, is there any hope for my G tab - I have never been so frustrated over such a simple process in my entire life.
sorry looked for a way to move this post to the correct location...

When you NVFlashed, did you use the version with or without CWM. If you did the version without CWM then that would explain no CWM.
When you say you can't connect to PC are you talking about APX mode (NVflash)?
Go here http://viewsonic-gtablet-for-dummies.webs.com/ and follow the instructions for CODE RED step by step. Make sure download everything via the links on the dummies site to make sure you get the right stuff.
Al
No I used the version with CWM, which is why I was suprised to see the "booting recovery image" and then it just continued to boot. I tried both APX via USB and a typical USB connection after loading --where PC gave error "device not identified".

So, just to verify, you hold Vol(-) and press/hold Power, 3 birds appear & screen goes black...that is APX mode. Connect usb cable to PC & what does the PC say?
USB device not recognized -
Still having that problem with USB device not recognized.
However, I have gone to ...for dummies site and reflashed device using the "flash USB driver" to temorarily gain access with USB connection. With NVFlash I Am back to having clockworkMod and working GTab with original software 1.1
Again going to flash rom - but Upon connecting USB i get the message "USB device not recognized" - I have attmpted to mount USB through CWM, but still getting that same error.

If your tab boots, you don't have to use CWM/mount & storage to transfer your rom to the internal sd. Put your external in your PC, copy the rom to it, move back to the tab & copy to your internal. There are also other ways to transfer it but we can talk about that later if you like.
If that works you can still flash your rom & then we can work on getting the usb up.
So, the usb not recognized is when you try to connect after your tab is either all booted up or in CWM mount & storage (and not when you are in APX mode doing NVFlash)?
If you look in device manager what does it show?
Try connecting your tab to a differet PC & see it detects it correctly?
If it works on another PC, you may want to tryto use USBDview http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/usb_devices_view.html to look at the USB dvices that are connected or have been connected to your PC. You can find the gTab devices in the list & then use it's command line options (see instructions included with it) to remove(uninstall) them from the PC. Then you can reconnect to see if it will detect & install the driver correctly.
Can't use external load on pc to transfer rom. No card access.
USB did work in apx mode following instructions in code red. I thought of usin another pc and duplicated the failed results there.
Device manager showed yellow exclamation mark and would'n't install any driver I pointed it to (both computers) Unknown USB device.
Btw I want to thank you for trying to help me out on this. You people who lend your knowledge are commendable.

OK, try this. We are going to use Mobisynapse to wirelessly transfer files to & from your PC to the tab.
Download mobisynapse from my dropbox http://dl.dropbox.com/u/36150173/Mobisynapse.exe & install on your PC.
From your gTab, download Mobisynapse system tool from my dropbox to your tab & install http://dl.dropbox.com/u/36150173/com.mobisystems.office_registered-1.apk.
Start the app on the tab, click More & select Connect to PC to switch it to ON.
Start the Mobisynapse on your PC, it shoud see your tab, once it sees it click connect.
From there, go to the Files icon & you should see an Explorer type screen. PC on the left, tablet on the right. You can transfer files in either direction. Transfer your Rom files or whatever you want.
Let me know when you have downloaded the apps from my dropbox so I can remove them.
Al
I downloaded them and installed, on tab it shows up as officesuite. When I run it "more" is not an option. On pc it simply says (can not connect to android device) under "choose devices". I did turn on USB debugging on tab.

Do I need to create a "roms" folder, and is it supposed to be the zip folder or the files within the zip folder?

It's easier that way, that way you can easily differntiate it from other files/folders. If you create the folder, then put the zipped rom inside the folder.
I turned connect to pc on. Running mobisynapse on pc it sees the tab just fine. I click connect and it pulls up info about tab, BUT when I go to files tab --- right side of screen is greyed out. It won't transfer files.

Third icon from the left...looks like a little file cabinet.
lol, yeah 3rd from left...
It seems to connect just fine, but under the file tab I can only see files from the PC on the left - the right side doesn't show any files and all buttons are greyed out. Again, under the home tab I have access to the GTab just fine. I can see apps, contacts, etc. but under file tab - no files on right side and buttons are not accessable.
So do you see the left (PC side)? Is the right side populated at all & what is in the drop down folder box (should be /sdcard)!

PC wont recognize phone as storage

Im so saaad! i think its all my fault.. i copied everything from my galaxy s2 storage over to my new xperia s.. and now it doesnt recognize the phone so i can transfer files..
what should i do ? please help!
btw the phone is just awesome! wauw!
I would also like to know how to properly mount the storage to a PC so that it is recognised as a Mass Storage Device rather than a MTP connection..?
Its so annoying not being able to see thumbnails of the pictures/videos you are trying to access..its also annoying that the PC has to spend time on downloading the files before playing rather than streaming straight from the storage.
Anyone have any ideas? plz..
Rather than starting a new thread I just used this one..thx in advance
When you connect the phone, on notification bar should say Internal storage connected. When you go to My Computer you should see Other section, where new device come up, called... Xperia S. Double click on it, so it goes to Internal storage. Again, double click and... you can see internal content. Hope it helps.
Same thing happened to me.... Today onwards time n again seeing a mtp driver failed issue when connecting to my win7 laptop. It wad working fine earlier. When I switch off n restart the device,it installs driver correctly and autoplay option comes up to open the xperia s device. However when I click on open folder, I dont see any folders in my xperia s phone. Hence no file transfer is possible. How can I get my phone working again?
I tried to do pc system restore... Since it was working yesterday...but that didnt solve the issue either. Any ideas?
Sent from my LT26i using XDA
Do you use different USB ports? Try to stick to only one. I still have XP and mine is always working, so this is definitely PC and windows issue.
I have a Win7 64bit Home Premium edition VAIO.
when I first got the phone, I could use it to connect to PC Companion. It would also show up as a storage device automatically, and using the same I had copied over music and pictures.
However, after 2 days of use, I noticed, my phone was no longer being identified as a device. Also, it gets a Code 10 - Device cannot be started error when I look into the driver details.
I tried to reinstall the MTP driver, but it never gets installed successfully. It always gives a driver failed to install error.code 10.
I can still connect my WD hard disk and other usb devices.
I saw somewhere in the Forum someone had described that I needed to uninstall and reinstall WMP to make this work. Didnt work
I downloaded the Windows DEK to ensure that all the drivers gets reinstalled, that didnt help either.
I also restored my laptop back to factory setting......still no luck with the fresh install.
So, here I am with a phone where I cant connect the device to move in OR out music/pictures etc.
The problems are:
1) MTP driver gives an error while installation. I tried to manually select the MTP USB driver and isntall it. That didnt work either.
2) When I connect SEUS, with the phone restarted by holding the volume button SEUS identifies the phone and shows me that there are no updates. Not sure if SEUS can be used for exploring the phone. Most probably NO.
3) PC companion tries to find the phone. It says it may take few minutes to identify the phone if it has lots of files. After that the operation fails suggesting that PC companion could not find the phone.
I restarted both the phone and my device several times......did not work.
I uninstalled the MTP and USB drivers and restarted and got them reinstalled........didn't work either.
Any idea on what needs to be done?
I have tried all the ports and a different USB cable as well.
I even tried changing settings of the usb port as described in the below link..
Nothing worked
Is it possible to get the Sony specific drivers from somewhere?
Hi has this problem been solved. I have two computers, the win 7 one installed fine but it refuses to work on the xp one.
any help?

I've got the same problem, but you can still use MyPhoneExplorer from
.fjsoft.at
to access your phones data. please also read the forum, because it needs an app on your phone too.
fjsoft.at/forum/viewtopic.php?t=11454
Also I've called with the xperia help line about a driver pack, but there aren't any lose available, exept what is in SEUS or PC Companion, but they don't work for me.
Can also some tell me if SEUS also will provide the new firmware 6.0.A.3.67? because SEUS tells me that my phone is uptodate, but I still have 6.0.A.3.62.
Install the latest version of media player, that worked for me.
Try connecting phone in Debug mode. On first time MTP driver installation will fail too but after that disconnect phone, disable Debug mode in phone and connect. Now it should working.
If will not working then go to Device manager on your PC, find "Mobile devices", select something with MTP in name, right click and choose "Uninstall". Disconnect phone, connect again and now it should working.
Worked for me!
Hurray! I fixed it on my computer WinXP sp3. I did everything with MTP bla bla winmedia11 even dev kit MTP = No fix.
go to Settings-> apps-> handle apps-> all-> MtpApp <open it.
Clear data and cache. (restart phone if you want)
plug the phone in USB and wait.. the scanner/camera thing comes up.
Right click on This computer (my computer?) chose "Handle" -> device manager -> scanners and printers-> right click on the "phone" -> settings -> device driver-> update.
Chose let windows search for XXX and voila MTP device driver found and installing.
(I'm using Swedish interface so the names of step might be wrong )
I can confirm that delete data / cache on MTP App indeed solved the problem. Thanks

[Q] ADB Will Not Work CM7

Lol after trying so many drivers and it being the generic driver makes me angry. Here's what I did.
1. Right click on My Computer, go to Properties.
2. Go to Device Manager
3. Find your My HTC (should be the second one Android USB Device), right click on it and select Update Driver Software
4. Then select Browse My Computer for Software
5. Then choose Let Me Pick which driver to install on the bottom.
6. Then choose USB Mass Storage Device
Then it takes some time to think and viola! All working! However we are not DONE!
EDIT: So the next step I did after experienced issues remounting after unplugging the phone. I have change the MTP to ADB Testing Interface and things seem to be mounting everytime. Rebooted phone and PC, both worked again so I think this may be a working solution.
Now go to MTP.
1. Right click on My Computer, go to Properties.
2. Go to Device Manager
3. Find your MTP (should be under Unknown Devices), right click on it and select Update Driver Software
4. Then select Browse My Computer for Software
5. Then choose Let Me Pick which driver to install on the bottom.
6. Then choose Google Inc. and the Driver is ADB Testing Interface.
ENJOY!

Newb Needs Help Connecting to PC

I was unable to find help elsewhere, so I was recommended to come here. No rooting, hacking, reprogramming, or anything else. Just a basic connection problem.
I recently bought a new Solid-State hard drive, and re-installed Windows 7 on it. Everything is great, and it's fully updated.
My problem is that while my LG Optimus G E980 phone will charge via the USB cable, I can't "open" it in My Computer, to transfer pictures, music, etc.
I have tried downloading the driver from LG's Website (LGMobileDriver_WHQL_Ver_4.1.1), but when I run it, I get the following message:
"The Microsoft MTP driver is not found on your system. Please install Windows Media Format Feature Pack using Download Link for your media device to work correctly."
It then provided me with a link to download this. However, when I do that and run the update, I get told the update is not applicable to my computer.
Whether I try to install this update or not, it doesn't matter, because the driver installation tells me it was installed successfully. However, judging by the icon in my Taskbar with the red/white "X" and the fact that my phone still won't connect, it hasn't.
Yes, my phone is set up to ask me what I want to do when connected to the PC, and Media sync (MTP) is selected. Here's the kicker... remember, I have two hard drives. When I boot using the other hard drive, the phone connects with no problem. Same USB cable and port. Therefore, this is DEFINITELY software-related.
Is there something preventing this driver from installing? Why is the phone not installing the driver itself? Thoughts would be appreciated! Thanks.
Have you Manually installing the driver from Devices manager?
In the Device Manager locate your Android device. Then right-click on it and select "Update Driver Software".
Select "Browse my computer for driver software".
Select "Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer".
Select "Show All Devices".
Press the "Have Disk" button.
Enter the path to the Google USB driver. Normally it is located in the following directory: C:\Program Files (x86)\Android\android-sdk\extras\google\usb_driver
Select "Android ADB Interface" from the list of device types.

Thanks for the quick reply.
I searched, and do not have a folder called "Android".
I did, however, find a folder called "LG United Mobile Drivers", however there are about 30 different drivers in there. I picked a few, including "Lgandadb" and "Lgnetandadb", but I get told "Windows encountered a problem", and "This device cannot start (Code 10)"
Anyone?
Ok, I'll try to put it another way. When you first connect an Android phone to a PC, drivers are installed automatically. I'm willing to bet there was an error when I installed them on my new hard drive.
Are the drivers already a part of Windows? If so, perhaps I need to do a Repair of Windows?
Are they located in an Auto-Run file on the phone, and maybe I need to re-run that program?
Perhaps there's something I need to delete or flag so that my phone thinks it's the "first time" again?

Transfer files without HiSuite

Is there any way to access the internal storage through USB without using Huawei's HiSuite program?
I would expect standard mtp or ptp to work, but when I select those options, the only drive that shows up is the HiSuite install "cd".
Thanks in advance!
have you enabled USB debugging on your phone?
If not enable please enable it and try again
I've enabled debugging, but that doesn't change anything.
Surely I should be able to use MTP without needing to enable debugging?
ofcorse, its standart for every phone, but sometimes user dont instal drivers, so we see device, but not storage.
what pc version, mac you use?
on windows, copmuter, right click, device manager, connect phone with pc, there need to be yellow alert simbol, pres on it, instal drivers etc, ofcorse, if you instal hisuite, you shuldnt be problems to connect phone without instaling drivers, because hisuite install all needet things, but who knows, maybe for tohers not working things liek for me
Make sure the drivers are correctly installed for your phone.
In my case, an antivirus software update was causing the MTP driver to malfunction. The yellow caution icon was activated when I went to the 'Connect Phone with PC' tab in the Device Manager (Windows Explorer / This PC + right click / Manage). I opened the antivirus program and it asked me to restart the PC, which I did. After restarting the PC, I connected my phone and I was able to see it as a removable device (a.k.a. external device, a.k.a USB device) and transfer files through Windows Explorer as usual. So, basically, make sure all the Windows Updates and antivirus updates are 'updated'. Best of luck.
