just google for 1.17.4 busybox zip and copy the busybox file to /system/xbin (even replace the busybox @ /systme/bin as well but still 1.14.1) but titanium still yell out that mine still @ 1.14.1 ????? It's weird, using the firmware from precurse my phone already @ 1.17.1.
Anybody here can manually update the busybox to the latest version?
TIA
TB is using 1.17.1. This can be installated in TB itself, clicking on "Problems?" or with Stericson Busy Boy Installer.
What is the latest ver of busy box.

I hope someone can provide a definitive solution, because I've gotten to the place where Swype is invaluable to my phone experience and I also want the latest version.
Here is how I installed the latest swype (first time noob)
-Registered blah blah
-Uninstall through titanium backup (select and hold)
-Deleted some system file that had something to do with UI and swype (try swype.apk and something else, sorry I can't recall or find the thread that helped me)
-Installed swype through their installer app (got an error)
-Uninstalled swype installer app and whatever it left behind
-Installed it fresh and it worked perfectly!
Probably the worst way to do it but I was very impatient at the time.
Hi
i have updated my xperia to latest firmware
and now i tried like 4 different root apps: z4root, super1click 1.5.5, super1click 1.6.3, special versions for xperia mini and new update and ALL apps say: rooted, su installed, busybox installed.
now i've got superuser icon in my apps but i cant get titanium backup work, su binary updated and busybox installed because all they say: no root acquired
please help, any other method to get root?
This might sound daft, but have you rebooted your phone after u rooted it?

Here you guys have a SuperSU CWM flashable package that works on the CWM recoveries of the X8 - and will replace the default Superuser by ChainsDD
"su" goes into /system/xbin and "Superuser.apk" goes into /system/app
There's also an undo CWM ZIP attached that will restore ChainsDD's Superuser.apk and su binary in case Chainfire's SuperSU doesn't work for you.
Tested to work on GingerDX v022 and v025 - try on other ROMs at your own risk.
EDIT:
- Link to the article on the XDA portal
- Link to Chainfire's SuperSU thread
- SuperSU for GingerDX on MediaFire
What exactly does it do?

It's a "better than Superuser" solution. I added the links to the article on XDA's portal as well as to Chainfire's SuperSU thread ... just have a look.
Thanks B.Jay!

Go into Settings -> Applications -> Manage Applications and try clearing the data cache of SuperSU.
I tried SuperSU on the cellphone of my step-daughter (GingerDX v022 on Alfs) and the only problem I have is that Titanium Backup gets stuck after obtaining super user privileges (already Allowed and Remembered).
All the other apps (Root Browser, "su" in the Terminal, ClockSync) work fine; no problems with Force Closes.
Root Explorer broken by this app on a Rezound running ICS. Uninstalling SuperSU breaks root (you might want to put a warning in it somewhere). And even after flashing your fix, and using Amon Ra to re-root (there is no CWM for Rezound), Superuser can't update its binary.
Got a fix? (Other than to reinstall before you do fix it?)
Thanks in advance. Might just have to restore last Nandroid.

The UNDO CWM ZIP actually spills back ChainDD's Superuser ...
EDIT: And with a Rezound you seem to be in the entirely wrong forum section.

This appears to be only thread for app on xda; and the app was touted on Lifehacker today (and the Market, uh, er, Play doesn't say it doesn't run on the Rezound).
My problem is that I can't update the binary since uninstalling SuperSU. How can that be? I get an error "Failed to download manifest. Check internet connection." (Regardless of whether on LTE or wifi).
Interested in your suggestions.

Well, if you can tell me into which directory the "su" binary is supposed to go I can create you a customized "undo" CWM ZIP.
The one attached above to the OP post copies "Superuser.apk" into /system/app (that much is the same on all Droids) and "su" into /system/xbin
If that matches with how it should be on the Rezound then simply flash the file - if "su" needs to be in /system/bin instead (or some other totally mind boggling location) tell me and I repack it for you.
On that note: There is a thread of Chainfire for SuperSU - this is just a repack of his CWM ZIP as it doesn't work on the X8
Chatted with my ROM developer who said "leave su & binary alone," so Nandroided back to pre-SuperSU and we seem to be okay.
I like the concept, just can't run (yet). Thanks anyway.

Anybody tried it on MiniCM9 ?

Thanks bro. Works GREAT on GDX.
Does not work on cm9 naa. It lags and hangs and restarts. Not recommended for cm9.
Which is better and why?

Nice good job
what actually bussybox do to our devices.??
i havent installed this app still all the rootapps areworking great, so what really it does to our device

In a layman's lanaguage- busybox is a set of command line tools which is used by applications with root privilege to alter data on restricted partitions of system.
It's a must have for any rooted user who want to alter their device to their liking not usually allowed in stock ROMs.

qhat to do.?

Use SuperSU instead of SimpleSU. As I explain in the Traveller DSC thread, SimpleSU's su binary isn't seen as a valid binary by certain apps. Stericson's Busybox installer is one of those apps.
You could also switch to Traveller DSC, as it uses SuperSU and includes a comprehensive busybox binary.
cant i just use some other app for it without changing the rom
Sent from my Dell Streak using xda app-developers app
You can install SuperSU from the Play Store (not recommended due to bugs in SuperSU 1.69), but you'll need to add SuperSU's package to SimpleSU's whitelist before SimpleSU will allow SuperSU to do its thing. In the Traveller DSC thread I do make a flashable zip of SuperSU 1.65 available to plug into /system, which is the best way to go. This will replace SimpleSU's binary and allow the Busybox installer to function. If you go this route, make sure to read the post regarding SuperSU.
Regardless of which way you install SuperSU, all apps requiring root will require that permissions be granted again, since you are changing both the su binary and the Superuser app.
Current version installed : v1.20.2-cm9
Busybox is installed to /system/bin/
Tried both (even Smart and Normal Install) (xbin and bin) but my phone just freezes when I do that with Busybox Pro.
Meaning I have to force a reset with the power-button.Did uninstall the application twice also, tried even the free-version.
With Busybox Installer the application I was able to install v1.20.2-cm9 without a problem. Verified the installation with (terminal emulator) v.20/2-cm9 bionic. Yes this application is not been updated for four months, meaning that it doesn't have the newest Busybox version.
Is there a other way to get Busybox 1.22.0 installed?
this is so damn interesting. With Busybox Pro it keeps freezing the installation. I downloaded Busybox X. Click on install button and 1.21.1 is installed. Then I was hoping that I would be able to update it to 1.22.0 in Busybox Pro itself, boom it freezes again . Well I am happy with 1.21.1 atleast.
Did inform the creaters of Busybox. Hopefully they fix the file-priveleges problem.
