[Q] Galaxy Tab email apk works for Archos Gen 8? - Gen8, Gen9, Gen10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

One thing I would like Android app to improve is to utilize the bigger screen more effectively like iPad.
I enjoy a lot on using email app on iPad because it supports two-pane interface, where list of mail on the left pane and the content of the selected mail is on the wider right-pane.
I saw Galaxy Tab has something similar for its email app, and it is being discussed about the possibility of porting the apk to work on other rooted droid phone/tablet.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=810454&page=15
Will anyone try it on Archos 70 or 101?
I'm a newbie on rooting my Archos; so I'm not sure I can try it myself even I'm eager to.
Thanks

i haven't gotta it to work.. i can install it but it forces closes on opening....

dont think its supposed to be "installed" according to that thread.. just pop it in the system/app folder.
does the client have gmail support? i get the feeling its just a pop3/imap client which isnt ideal for me. still hopefully the gmail app for tablets will be released for it soon after honeycomb is out

i delete the stock email.apk and put the new email.apk in the system/app folder...
1) i install it but it force closes...
2) i put it in the folder and reboot tablet and it disappears on reboot
3) i install it with stock email still installed and get failed install
so i dont know wat im doing wrong.. i have the sde installed with rooted kernel and i cant uninstall any stock apps.. they delete but return on reboot..

Thanks for trying.
When I got Archos 70 (Froyo 2.2.1), I can't use the stock email app to setup my Yahoo mail, no matter what I did, it always said wrong login/password (either automatic or manual setup won't work); but don't have any problem with my two gmail accounts setup.
So I downloaded and installed K-9 email app from Market and it works smoothly as my only mail app till now.
Just wonder why I can install and use another email app (K-9) on my unrooted Archos, but can't do the same for Galaxy Tab email app?

It's probably looking for something in the framework files on the G-Tab, which the Archos doesn't have. Kind of like trying to run the Sense clock on a non-sense rom, it just won't work (won't work even on a Sense rom if you're not using HTC's rosie).
Basically there's something on the g-tab that's missing on the Archos..

Because the Galaxy Tab email program uses extensions ( by samsung ) put into the system.
If someone finds out what/where/how we will be able to use that app.

I've got it working but I don't have enough posts on XDA to post a link. If you go to archosfans forums and look at the gen 8 hacking forum you'll see links to the files used to get the GTAB email app working on my 70. You must use the SDE root method to install it.

Did you get pop3 working?
It's working fine for gmail, but my nprmal pop3 accounts are not loading.

Thanks. I got Yahoo and Gmail working.
In order to make it work, I have to clear cache in Manage Application first.
When composing a new mail, I can't attach document. It always fC.

My hotmail account did not download messages but even stock android email app has issues with hotmail.
It does seem to be having some issues with attachments. I think it is due to the archos mount structure.

Having been using Galaxy Tab email.apk on my Archos 70 for two days and I like it very much (except not being able to attached file for new mail, downloading attached file is ok).
Just notice that sometimes read mails are still in bold characters instead of normal ones.
Sometimes it become normal characters after being read; but next time when I launch the email app, it becomes bold again.
Anyone has the same problem?

how use this
impossible to rename or move the email.apk
and copy the 3 apks on rep system/app/
i use the SDE and the A101 is rooted

Do you use the SDE + SD Card?
Otherwise you still use the squashfs, that is readonly.

So how are you guys removing the stock email apk?

If you root your device and boot from sdcard with Uruk hack, then you can simply copy those three Galaxy Tab apk into /system/app by either Astro or Rootexplorer; and reboot again from sdcard.

[Q] Atrix Copy and Paste

Hey guys,
I'm a telecom admin, and recently we've been having a few Atrix users complaining about no copy and paste at all in any email app besides Gmail (They're looking to copy the contents of email messages)
My Guess was that it was the crappy Motorola email app that replaces the usual stock email App on android, so I side-loaded the stock email .apk onto the phone and it looks like the Copy and Paste feature STILL isn't there even with the stock email installed
Rooting really isn't an option here (otherwise I wouldn't be posting this!) So do you guys have any Ideas? Is it just something on Motorola's end I we have to wait for?
Any ideas would be appreciated.
Thanks!

[Request] Can someone please port the email.apk from the Charge

I know this sounds crazy but the email app from the Charge works with my Roadrunner email account - the email app from the Fascinate does not. I tried to push it with root explorer on my rooted Fascinate but it force closes when i launch it. Anyone wiling to help? Thanks so much.
my roadrunner works on mine. what problem are you having?
I get connection problems. I am on the roadrunner.com server not rr.com and the incoming and outgoing settings take when setting up but when checking email, it gives a connection problem via a yellow bar that appears.
Settings I use:
u: [email protected]
pop-server.roadrunner.com 110
mobile-smtp.roadrunner.com 25
I'm having this issue with my hotmail account. I had to download a hotmail app.

I've read other posts where its been a known issue with the fascinate's email app and how it interacts with certain pop3 servers. I think they resolved it in the Charge since I tried my email account on co-worker's phone.
Just use another email app
Thanks, but with all due respect, that's not the point...if the gps didn't work, then just buy a garmin? And if the phone camera froze when taking pics then just use a traditional camera?
Try searching for the email.apk from the Galaxy Tab. That works on our phones, and mighty fix your problem.
I use pop-server.cinci.rr.com since I'm in Cincinnati. Double check your server address. It works great on my fascinate on the tw email app.

Why don't you just have your gmail get it for you?

This make absolutely no sense. I said just get another email app, There are definitely email apps in the Market. Your telling me to go spend money on something else. If your normal email app doesn't work just go get another app, its not hard.
Here you go Even deodexed it for you
I pushed file to system/app thhen changed permissions and removed the old email.apk but when I reboot, I get a looping forceclose of the process com.android.email even before I attempt o launch it. Has anyone else tested this?
I copied the Galaxy Tab email.apk from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=810454
Root Explorer - copy\move existing email.apk to a backup folder and then copy\move new .apk to app folder. Clicked on it, installed, and reconnected to email account.
sadly, corporate email administrator settings for security lock on screen timeout still doesnt work. Otherwise, it works and looks nice.
Update: suddenly stopped delivering new mail and no manual refresh button. If these 2 things can be resolved by a developer this would be a great email app on the Fascinate, though it does have a distinct ipad feel to it. . Pinch zoom works and in landscape you can roll each pane separately.
Second Update: tried flashable version here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=12011499#post12011499
gives manual refresh option, but is not working with Exchange. ( wont download current day mail, only day prior and beyond). sending works fine.
supposedly works with non- Exchange accounts.

I tried it, same problem. Deleted email.apk in Root explorer in between FC's to stop it, reinstalled another .apk

[Q] Fix Android MS Exchange setup wizard to allow Lotus Traveler connection

We are running Lotus Notes at work (I will accept all the pity that anyone cares to give me). We have version 8.x and have Lotus Traveler servers up and running. The Lotus Traveler software on android leaves a few things to be desired.
Traveler server can speak standard ActiveSync. The problem is that the Gingerbread and Froyo versions of the Exchange setup on android broke the ability to put in a custom URL for the "exchange/traveler" server.
http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=14486
Is anyone aware of any way around this? I would like to remove the traveler software and just use the built in email app with my lotus email. There are some apps that you can run on the android that will use ActiveSync to work with a traveler server but I really wanted to use the built in email app if possible.
Maybe someone who developed a custom Email.apk that allowed for a manual server URL?
Thank you.
Working EMail.apk
Hi,
I had the same problem. I patched the current EMail.apk from Gingerbread, now it works for all my Traveller Accounts. This version is the Galaxy Tab version, but should also work on smaller devices.
Have fun,
Bender.

Thank you. How does one install this? Do I need to remove the old Email.apk or can I install this one over the top? (phone is rooted but does not have custom rom or kernel)
Problem with BodyPreference
Hi,
I have one more problem with the current app.
I get only Mime Encoded EMails and they are not displayed correctly.
I have to first work this out, then you can use the app.
When you have a roote phone, all you have to do is go to /system/app
delete Email.apk and Email.odex (if you have one), then copy the new Email.apk to this plays. Open Email.apk, the app is installed and then reboot your device.
Bender.
Awesome. Thank you for working on this.
Any luck making this work?
I have a Lotus Notes Traveler account and i'm trying to make use of the built-in email in ICS. All my calendar entries and mail headings are syncing just fine but there's no visible body to be read in any email.
Anyone with a solution?
Nobody?

Hi,
I am on stock ICS Galaxy Note and want to use my lotus notes using native email client but I am not able to sync because my company uses port number in server name like :
mail.mydomain.com:15001/servlet/traveler
if i put :15001 the mail client Next button gets disabled any fix for this?
Same here.... This custom port is killing me... You could try setting a port forwarding from another computer, setting ot as you server.
Not sure it will work, but it might.
Also if anyone here has the latest LotusTraveler.apk (v. 8.5.3.2) could you please post?

[Q] Easiest way to move apps from a phone to the View?

Hi everyone,
I currently have a Tmo Vibrant, and just bought a View... my first tablet. I'll be setting the View up on a Google account different than what's on my phone (to share with others in our house), and I'm looking for the easiest way to get apps from my phone to the tablet. I'm considering a couple of options; any advice would be greatly appreciated...
1. Set up my Google account on the tablet. From the Market, push my apps to the tablet. Then, change the Google account from mine to the new, permanent one. My questions are, is changing accounts even possible? If so, would the Market still track those apps after I changed the account?
2. Root the phone (already done), and the tablet. Titanium backup/restore from the phone to the tablet. The tablet and phone are running different versions of Android. Questions here are... will the apps run okay on the tablet? I've read some people were having problems with FCs when trying to run apps that came from a different version of Android. Also, will those apps restored to the tablet be recognized by the Market?
Option 1 seems like it would be easier, even though I may end up rooting the View anyway for Nandroid backups. Are there any better options?
Thanks in advance!
Option 1 will work. Changing accounts is possible. Just remove old account and create new one. Market knows what you have installed.
Alternatively ... pull your apk files from the phone, push apk files to your SD card, use a file manager, click on them and you will be asked to install them.
You can use TB, but if you are going from different Android versions, not all apps will work. And defiantly only restore the apps, not the data. No system data or app data.
Dropbox
Upload your .apk to dropbox and then you can download to any device with dropbox app.
Thanks. My View's coming in on Tuesday, and I've already got the apk's on Dropbox and on a microSD card so I'm ready to try both options.
Just an FYI for others - it seems the normal method to change Google accounts on an Android device requires doing a factor reset, though it looks like there may be other options that involve clearing data in specific Google apps to reset the account. Obviously, I haven't tried this yet but I still might, if the apk's I've backed up don't work. Here are a couple of threads about the topic:
https://groups.google.com/a/googlep...pic/android-market/technical-help/n6wTR-A3dh8
http://androidcommunity.com/forums/...ount-or-do-you-have-to-do-a-phone-reset-5718/
Another Option:
It should be possible to install Amazon App store on two different devices with two different Google accounts (and thus, two different Google Mail accounts) but a single user account for the Amazon App.
That way, any app you buy on the Amazon App store would be available on both devices, but personal information (such as e-mail) would be device specific.
Of course, you're not getting the full Google market this way, but the Amazon App store does have a ton of apps.
you should be able to change google accounts. Titanium backup is another root but keep in mind you are changing from gingerbread to honeycomb so I am not certain all apps will work
The absolute easiest way, assuming you have Root Explorer or something similar installed, is to simply email your .apk right from the phone to the Gmail account that's installed on your tablet.
On your phone, open Root Explorer, navigate to Data/App or System/App, and copy the .apk over to your SD card. Then open Gmail, start a new email, and hit Menu > Attach. At the prompt "select type of attachment", choose Root Explorer, then navigate to the SD card and click your .apk to attach it to the email. Send the email to the Gmail account on your tablet. Finally, open Gmail on your tablet, open the email you've just sent yourself, and click the handy Install button you'll find right in the email. That's it!

[APP] AOSP Email App Works on Stock Rooted TW

Since I first got the GS4 I hated that the stock TouchWiz email app didn't let you load up your Gmail account with it. I really like being able to have all of my email accounts (including exchange) in one app and therefore I really don't like having to use multiple apps for multiple email accounts. So , today I finally decided to try and get the AOSP email app working on stock TW because I have always really enjoyed that email app. All I did was pull the email and exchange apks from the latest CM nightly, copied them over into system>app using Root Explorer, and changed the permissions (shown below) and what do you know...it worked!
There is one thing you need to make sure you do though: after you do this, restart your phone and then go into Titanium (or whatever) and clear the data from both the email app and the exchange app. They will be all weird and FC if you don't do this first, but after doing that they work like a charm. The only issue I have is that I can't set Gmail up with Push notifications, but it's not a huge deal and much less annoying than having to use multiple apps.
I figured I would let everyone know in case there are others out there like me. I have attacked the two apks to this post and someone is welcome to zip them up into a flashable if they so choose. And of course do this at your own risk, I am not responsible if you manage to screw this up somehow.

I was on stock rooted MDK for a while and I could do the same thing. I'm on Hyperdrive ROM now and did it there too. You just need to select the "others" option when adding a new account, enter your gmail login info, and it adds it like any other IMAP email account.

Quick question. Do you have to remove the old email and exchange Apk?

Yep gmail works fine on stock email app as an imap account, no push though and sometimes it's finicky about updating at the scheduled intervals.

When you say finicky at updating at scheduled intervals, what do you mean? Because my GS4 stops syncing automatically at exactly 8AM and 5PM even with peak settings off. It wont restart auto syncing until I manually sync once after 8AM, and again after 5PM.
