[Q] what else - Vibrant Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Im bored and wanted to know what else i could do to my vib I've already have nero v3 and jk6 modem but what else is there to do to make it better

hey wats up , im new to all of this , i already rooted my phone , i have the one click lag fix app. so how do i install a rom , and exactly what is the rom and modem that u have on your vibr. actually do??

its like an update but you have to do everything but i like this one http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=883379

ohh okay i understand , so wats different?? sorry to be asking so many q

well i have froyo on my phone now and flash im still looking for other things to do to the phone it make it bad a$$$

so froyo is a rom??

its like the operating system on your phone like windows to your computer the rom is like installing the latest and greatest but its not made by samsung so most of the time depending on what rom you put on your phone you'll have less bloatware which is crap you dont use and takes up space

but make sure that you follow the instructions to the tee if you do it wrong you can mess up and you'll have to figure out how to get back to making it work

ohh ok , i get it...okay so whats the first steps that u have to take to do this...since u already are familiar with it , i wanna start with the rom that you loaded on your phone

I dl'ed the rom manager from the market and set up the clockworkmod
Sent from my hacked vibrant using XDA App

okay , rom manager from market and the clockwork mod i get from ??

okay so the rom manager from the market and the clockwork mod i get from where???

the clockwork mod is part of rom manager

okay got it...im takin down the steps becuz once i get home from work , this is going to be my project for the evening..now what do i after i get those

Sorry connection went down
Your going to want to run the clockworkmod it will reboot after a sec and go into recovery and do some stuff
Sent from my Hacked Vibrant using XDA App

does your fone have to have web access to do the clockwork mod??

No
Sent from my Hacked Vibrant using XDA app

oh alright...now once the its done booting after the clockwork mod , wats next???

nandroid backup its in the clockwork so you'll reboot into recovery this would be a good time to see if you can get into recovery with your keys your going to want to hold down vol +,- and pwr when the vib screen comes up let go of the pwr button then the rest if it goes into recovery the you should be ok if it doesn't then me myself wouldn't worry about it cause i already mess up one phone because i loaded something wrong and couldn't get into that screen but my new phone worked perfect

so once i do all of that , the phone is already updated??

New here... Just wanted some info

Whats goin on! New here as you can see... Just wanted to know if someone can drop some knowledge on me about the vibrant as far as flashing to a new rom and what I would need to do. Or you could just direct me to a guide. Been reading the forums and been hearing about Odin (no idea what it is or how I would access it on my vibrant) and I tried to boot into download and recovery mode for testing purposes and failed miserably . Anyone care to drop some knowledge.

First thing first.. congralutations on the Vibrant.. now lets get craking.. What do you want to do? Ther are so many update/upgrade so can do but you will need to let us know what you want so we can direct you to the correct threads..
Well, here's my recommendations:
Whoops, forgot this part, see if you can get into recovery through hardware buttons.
Turn off phone, hold down both volume buttons, then press power button until phone turns on. Keep holding volume buttons until you see the green text (I guess you could also let go when it says Vibrant on the screen). Either rejoice that your handset doesn't have it locked, or be slightly disappointed, but now you know.
1. Root (You can download an app to root you automatically, or root through a pc/mac app, or manually if you'd like.
2. Install rom manager from the market and have it install the clockwork recovery.
3. Create backup!
Now you're pretty much ready to do anything, check out some roms, unlock your phone to work with other carriers, install some lag fixes if you want.
Well looking foward to froyo and knowing samsungs rep on promises I think I might just want to use a custom froyo rom
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
Update: just installed clockwork. Did a backup and also applied lag fix. Now my question is will this effect my ota updates... And if I do flash a rom by a dev do I need to uninstall lagfix first ?
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
Depends on the rom, just read the first post, should have all the information.
Ok. Thanks for the info . This also shouldnt effect any OTA update I would get from tmobile right? All ive done is rooy, install clockwork, did a backup with clockwork, and lagfixed. Wouldnt think it should seeing as im not running a custom rom.. Correct me if im wrong.. Lol

You should be fine for OTA , since you are not using a custom ROM, not sure how the lagfix will affect the OTA install though(I am sure if anyway it will be negative), might be best to remove that before you install any OTA upgrades ....

Ics 4.0 pasion hot to go back to cm7

Hello guys im currently running on 4.0 ics passion v7.. i wanted to go back to cyanogenmod stable but the problem is im getting error when flashing the rom on cwm .. i decided to odin back , the problem is in odin under ID COMP it says comp 3 instead of comp 5 , i guess i have wrong driver , my question is can i still continue to odin it even tho its in comp3 n not comp 5?
You mean COM 3, COM 5? It doesn't matter, as long as it's yellow and it reads your phone.
But, you don't have to flash back to stock to go back to CM7 from ICS Passion.
Do this;
1. Download a CM7 Kernel. (EB-Steamline)
2. Flash it via CWM.
3. Reboot your phone.
4. It'll get stuck at the EB-Production screen.
5. Pull battery, and use the three button combo to go to recovery.
6. Flash CM7 ROM.
7. Enjoy.
Thanx bro will try it now !
Alright, let me know how it goes. c:

I dont even need to reboot or pull battery. I just reboot recovery from within recovery and it reboots into the new recovery for me. Or at least it has been anyway.
Im on ics v8 and im very cautious about switching roms because long time ago in my n00b days i hardbricked a phone and completely destroyed the crap outa it
Q. On ics v8 and love it but getting tired of fc's and incoming call glitches. I came to ics from cm7 from bionix. I believe the cwm version for ics and cwm is the same.
Can i simply just reboot into recovery and then wipe/reset and install cm7?
Thanks

I tried this last night, and because of the Clockwork mismatch I got a bootloop. So just flash a CM7 kernel first like EB Streamline, and then flash CM7. Or flash CM7 twice... Makes sense? EDIT: And yes, wipe and what not... I use the kernel cleaning script as well.
Okay thanks.
Im gonna just stick to ics v8 for now...going back to gingerbread is killing me inside....
Once you go ics you can never go back...

Why not try Onecosmic's RC1? Its much faster than Passion AND comes without FC's or bloatware, lol... And you can flash directly from the recovery you have now I think...

When I first noticed Clockwork Recovery got "Reboot Recovery" function I was very pleased to say the least. I only wish it was located in a better place, like directly below "Reboot System Now". I also wish Power Down would stop disappearing from my recovery. lol

I assume thet the phone is rooted. You should flash a 2.2 Rom from the vibrant forum first. Bionix, Trigger etc. Once you flash a 2.2 froyo rom, it should be smooth. I like Zendroid located here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1079517
If you can get into CWM you should be golden ..good luck
Haha Lapdog hit the Thanks instead of the Quote.
Ok then. Here us what you can do. Hit my signature and download CWR. Open the folder and put the Update.zip on her internal SD. Go here and download this ROM (Derange9). Put it on her internal SDcard.
Boot into recovery (either volume up AND down and power OR volume up + power [depending on whatever bootloader you have]). It will show up Blue.
Tab down to Reinstall Packages and hit it. It will cycle through and come back to the blue screen. Hit Reinstall Packages again and the recovery will go from blue (stock) to green (CWR).
Scroll down to Wipe cache, factory reset/data and advanced->wipe Dalvik. Then scroll to Install from SD and find the above ROM and flash it.
Once done Reboot and profit, you are on Deranged9. If you want to flash a different ROM, just replace D9 with whatever one you want. After it boots up and she is no longer pissed at you, you should get some kisses. Tell er' Wood sent you.
really she wants it to just be stock , it was ten times smoother when i got it then after i tried to put the lockscreens on it , is there any way i can get rid of the 2 bootloaders and just have one and have it be all stock
Try Odin if u want it back dtock
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
If you just want to Odin to the latest stock, it appears to be KB5:
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&sky=mrdr&q=t959uvkb5&oq=t959uvk&aq=1&aqi=s1g4&aql=&gs_sm=c&gs_upl=2935l15089l0l18525l11l10l0l1l1l0l531l1319l0.6.5-1l9l0&mvs=0
That doesnt solve my dual bootloader problem though
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda premium
I don't know what you mean by dual bootloader. You might want to Odin back to the froyo bootloader before installing a stock rom.
i mean when it first turns on you see it go through 2 bootloaders the froyo one and the gingerbread one First is Galaxy S i9000 logo , then Vibrant logo, finally is T-mobile bootscreen.
i would like to get it back to how it was where it only says the vibrant logo when loading then i would like to odin it to the most rexent stock version
like if i hook it up to samsung kies for vibrant that will fix it right ?
At least two of the recent hard-brickings I've read about recently have involved Kies. I wouldn't touch it. Odin or Heimdall for me.
Info about kb5:
http://duckduckgo.com/?q=t959uvkb5
I'm a little concerned about your initial "i9000". If there is any possibility you changed the SBL, you might want to Odin back to a stock Froyo SBL before loading kb5. Do it in the same session: uncheck "reboot" in Odin before loading the SBL, then after it loads, load kb5. Probably the initial "i9000" just means you somehow got an i9000 kernel.
I think you need to go back to odin3 flash the stock jfd to stock then go in phone dailer press *2767*3855# to format the system to wipe out the old folder then go back to odin3 again and flash the VIBRANT STOCK (FROYO) BOOTLOADER. I hope that help. I did have 2 bootloader like seeing i9000 and the Vibrant logo before
bootloader

Sbl and jdf , no comprendas , I get most of what your saying just not those terms , and whats odin3 I know what odin is just never heard of odin3 unless thats the version

Dude quit asking redundant questions about the help and just read a guide on Odin, know How to use it and fix the phone.
You shouldnt be flashing if you can't get back to stock.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
ok im assuming sbl is samsung boot loader but like i said in the beginning i dont have a vibrant , i was just trying to help my girl deck out her phone , you can catch me in the og epic or the epic touch threads and im pretty much on the ball there and im pretty well versed in using odin to get MY phone back to stock . as for redundant questions ... i dont really see where i asked any ? i just know last time i started messing with my girls phone it went all bad so i guess i was just trying to make sure i understood what people were talking about ... also i guess i could have just googled odin3 (which i just did and im pretty sure i got the idea of it) but i was on the go and had really horrible service , its the Q&A section so i guess dont read it if you dont wanna hear people asking question
Use the AIO Vibrant toolbox 2.5
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=954509
Kies won't fix anything. If you don't have much experience, use Heimdall One-Click. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1278683
It will flash the stock bootloaders and the stock Vibrant ROM. It will be back to the way it was when you (or she) first got it.
Note: It won't let you flash bootloaders until you've flashed it once, so just reflash it with bootloaders checked. If it fails, just keep doing it. It will flash it eventually. I used this when I bricked my Vibrant.

You can't flash CM7 without a recovery

I think you don't understand what a "Custom recovery" actually means...
And by the way, LGDRM, KDZ Updater and fastboot can update firmware without an installed recovery

You need a custom recovery to flash roms such as cm7. It is also used to make a backup of your phone and wipe the data on your phone. How is it that you've flash cm7 (which means that you've also used your recovery before) yet you don't know the purpose of having a recovery? I think you're going way to ahead of yourself.
Sent from my LG-P509 using xda premium
I'm guessing it's more of a case of he's flashed cm7, using the recovery to do so, but doesn't understand the behind-the-scenes procedures that go into the actual flashing.
you need to read the sticky thread if you dont know basics
Think of custom recovery as the basic setup/installer tool for anything and everything related to custom ROMs, kernels, etc. .
kdz and lgdrm are only for stock(OEM)/official releases.
The reason you need it, because it's the only way to do it and carrier's don't give you access to change your ROM. Does Microsoft put mod chips/software in xbox 360? No, hell no, they only give you limited access and regulate what content can be yours.
Custom recoveries come with features that you normally can't do, like nand(full phone backup) backup.
It's this way because that's how it has to be done.

Just because your phone is "rooted" dosent mean you can install a rom like a app, you need to use clockwork mod, why do you need it? you need it because it allows you to perform actions that you couldn't do on a stock phone. With clockwork mod you can back up your system files, restore system files, install new roms for use or testing. If your phone is just "rooted" all it means is you can now access system files, use certain "root required" apps, being rooted is step #1 to installing clockwork mod, its like your phone is unlocked, if you just want your phone rooted to delete some system apps thats fine, but it is wise to flash clockwork mod because it can prevent your phone from being bricked and now you can install roms. so the answer is pretty simple, how else would you install a rom without clockwordmod? you couldnt so its just one of those things you need, hope this helps man
reply
apart from all this custom roms come packed as zip files n kdz updater or lgdrm doesnt recognize these files so u need to hace custom recoveries like cmw or twrp or amonra

I don't think that you could do that... since the phone doesn't even come with CM7 in the first place. Doing a factory reset / restore wouldnt bring the phone to stock CM7. Correct me if I'm wrong but wouldn't it bring the phone back to FroYo since that's what it came with?
CM7 is already a custom ROM so there is nothing stock about it... Stock means whatever the phone came with from the box (FroYo) CM7 is Gingerbread.

If your running cm7 or any rom you can do a factory/reset through the rom your using, it will just erase all info but wont delete the rom and it will delete apps so when you reboot you will have to set up Google account like a new phone, cm7 will still be installed and your current rom it will just be like new, to do a factory reset go to settings, security then hit factory reset, reboot and then back to a clean start on cm7 there will be a option to erase everything on the SD card, hit no if you want to keep all files on your SD or hit yes if you want it all gone, goodluck p.s the only way you can go back to stock is to flash a stock rom and if you made a backup of your stock rom before you flashed cm7
