I recently got a Samsung Vibrant that was already perm rooted (I think he said he used a one click method) the problem I am having is that when I go into recovery I get a blue menu. At that menu I select reload packages and it aborts with a not signed signature error. I can't get to the green recovery screen to flash Roms or do a Nandroid back up. Can anyone help me with this? Thanks

Download ClockWork's Rom Manager from the market "Rom Manager" and install their recovery from inside the app - hope this helps.
You can try to do the ROM manager flash CwMRecovery, boot into blue recovery choose "reinstall packages" and that should give you green recovery.
The above process may need to be repeated multiple times. Once you access green recovery choose "apply sdcard:update.zip" then choose "advanced" and "reboot recovery"
I personally don't think you should not be using any one click root app to aquire ROOT. I would suggest you uninstall any said app and ROOT your phone properly, you can use the GUIDE sticky and it should be fairly straight thru and easy. Good luck!

I would Odin back to stock and start over.
Here is info how to do it.

Just download SGS kernel flasher from the market and flash a voodoo injected kernel. You will then have voodoo red recovery. BOOM!

I did this method and it is back to stock and has lost it's root. I need to root it again. can you point me in the right direction for a good root process? I am new to the Vibrant. Knew everything about the myTouch 4G and now have to switch my thinking. It's quite different. I would appreciate it. Thanks
install rom manager and then do a clockwork recovery from thereonce u have that done. Then u get the update package and do the 3 button combo and u will be on a blue screen and then install packages u will have to do this twice. after that it will turn green and ur there and rooted.
Ok, it's just not reinstalling packages for me again. I used Odin to get back to stock, and I lost root and was back on 2.1 Eclaire. I used Super one click to get root back. Flashed Rom Manager. Went into recovery with volume up and down and power. I was able to install packages and it worked and got me to green CWM. Then I installed the 2.2 update using Keis, flashed Rom Manager. I went back into recovery, I got the blue screen again. Tried to reinstall packages and it aborted again with signature error, tried multiple times and no go. What is up! I just can't get it to work. I certainly do not want to stay on 2.1 Eclair.

I honestly think the signature issue is due to kies update or the one click root option. (prob the kies update but not sure)
- This is the method I use to ROOT and would suggest everyone use as well:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=723479. Once in green recovery I would recommend making a nandroid backup before moving on.
- I would not recommend using kies to update to 2.2.
If you just want stock 2.2 I would suggest try this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1036193. I would suggest you use the CwM version opposed to the ODIN version for reasons stated by OP there.
- Honestly I would search the Vibrant Android Development thread and take a look at some other custom ROMs you might like. You might like Bionix1.3.1 its 2.2 firmware and the theme and mod option support is out of this world. There are alot of 2.2.1 ROMs available as well you might like.
Take a look at the Bible for options: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=991267

You need to install a stock recovery replacement that doesn't check the signature. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=833423 tells how. Or just Odin back to a firmware from before signature checking in the recovery screen was activated, but then you may have to re-root your phone.
The version of 2.2 that Kies installs has the signature checking recovery, so if you're running with that, you'll have to replace your recovery. Anything earlier, and you should be fine without.
I just want to say thank you to everyone for being so helpful. TMO is sending me a replacement because I was having freezing issues and email notifications not working. I will definitely root it the correct way and use all your helpful links. I think my next phone is going to be the SGS II. Can't wait for the US release
why do you need the kies update if you just wanna flashed a custom rom? you dont need to

Are you saying that all Rom's run on 2.1? I tried Darky's 9.5 Rom and it fc'sd everything and threw my phone into constent ringing.
I think the BIG issue is just NOT to do the samsung kies update thats what borks things up. Its easier to root everything from 2.1 and then if you want 2.2 or 2.2.1 or 2.3 just flash custom ROMs. If you want to do the official samsung kies update I would suggest not to ROOT at all. Just get your new phone and update it. Good luck!
I definitely want to root it. I changed Rom's all the time on my myTouch 4G. I'll get it worked out
Awesome! I'm sure you'll get it just the way you want it, personalized to fit your tastes. Just keep in mind to stick with custom ROMs after you ROOT and not to do the samsung kies update. There are a number of GREAT 2.2 and 2.2.1 custom ROMs available for our device with little or no bugs at all thanks to the hard werk of multiple Devs and Dev teams with unlimited theme and modification options, hope you find exactly what your looking for. Good luck!
need help. i flashed 2.3.3 and it wont go into recovery now. tried both 3 button combo and rom manger into recovery. just reboots my phone
After you flash the update.zip and get root. You dont have to do the kies update in order to flash other roms. Just root and dont do the kies update. Remember after you flashed a custom rom wait 10 minutes n reboot. Theres alot of guides in here . Check the stickies. I would recommend trigger 3.2 with bullet

Rom manager is not fully functional on the SGSII. In particular, you can not use recovery through Rom Manager. To gain ClockworkMod Recovery, you must install a custom kernel containing CWM Recovery.
You can install a kernel with Odin3, Heimdall, adb, Android Terminal Emulator, or Mobile Odin Lite. If you use Odin3 or Heimdall, this will increment the flash counter. Adb, Terminal and Mobile Odin Lite will not increment the flash counter. If you need specific guidance, look at the FAQ in sticky section of the General forum, or follow the Guide linked in my signature. (I havn't added Mobile Odin Lite to the guide yet, but it's a pretty easy option. If you download it from Chainfires thread, it is free. If you get the pro version from the market there is a small charge.)
You can't boot into recovery through rommanager. You should do the three button boot (press power+volup/down) once you do that you will be able to flash roms without any issue.

You can't flash roms from stock 3e recovery, so unless there is a custom kernel installed on the phone you will not be able to flash roms.
I'll definitely cast a vote for Mobil Odin. I flashed Entropy 512's latest kernal through the Pro version, and it took less than 10 seconds!

Yes. I looked at his video again. The video is bad, very blurry, but it does look like he has ClockworkMod Recovery 5.0.2.3 installed, not 3e recovery. So your directions would be good in that case.
BYW, I believe that stock 3e recovery is also blue text. It's been a while since I booted into 3e recovery though.

That's is correct. Though mobile odin lite is on xda for free. I used it to flash entropy512's newest kernel. Worked without an issue.
Just make sure you have the zImage already extracted and on your phone.

Download Mobile Odin Lite from Chainfires OP to your pc, move MobileODINLite-v1.25.apk into the same directory where you have adb.exe, and use adb to install it with:
Code:
adb install MobileODINLite-v1.25.apk
You do not need to try to install the add-on (flashkernel). You don't need it to flash a kernel, but you do need it if you want to flash a rom. When I tried it out this weekend, it would not download the flashkernel, so after I installed the kernel, I deleted Mobile Odin Lite.

Hello again. I haven't tried anything yet time is not permitting me to but I did install a custom kernel when I first rooted. This is the method I used if I haven't posted the link up yet. Its from zedomax on his you tube channel. I did it step by step. I was even able to make backups no problem.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R-2Z2dKsuio&feature=youtube_gdata_player
Creep? I'm on my lunch break reading your other threads and what not... and I saw someone write press power / up and down buttons to get to cwm recovery ... but then I saw someone say release the power button when you see the yellow triangle.
So I did that and was in recovery 5.0.2.3 and attempted to flash cyanogen that I had stored in the phone...... the first attempt took two seconds so I remember on another post people had said to flash it again so I did. It took maybe 10 seconds this time.
I restarted.. and was joyed to see the cyanogen boot screen but was saddened to see it was caught in a boot loop. Would keep restarting and doing the bootup screen. Wouldn't pass that part so I had to do a restore .. any idea what I may be doing wrong..?
I attached a screen shot of my "about phone" thank u thank you everyone
I really can't help with installing CM7. I've never installed it myself.
From what I see, your were on stock with zedomax kernel and CWM 5.0.2.3, which as far as I know meets the requirements to be ready to flash CM7. Maybe someone with more experience can help you.

Thanks creepy. Just out of curiosity do you have a Tom installed? If so then which? I would like to try your rom and see.
I recently tried to root my Galaxy tab 10.1 "4G" that I got from Rogers using the files under the 4G portion in the Look Here First thread. Went into recovery to flash kernal and recovery files okay. Rebooted.
Then the bad stuff started: Boot screen loop.
After doing some more research it seems the reason why this happened is because the Rogers device is actually not a 4G device but a 3G device. Accordingly flashing the 4G files onto a 3G device has most likely caused this.
I am able to boot using the volume down + power button, however I cannot access recovery mode. I can access Downloading mode with Odin recognizing it. I tried to see if I was able to flash CWM onto it with no avail with the following screen
My guess is that it is due to flashing an incompatible Kernel... sigh.
So now I ask you gurus, is my Galaxy Tab 10.1 fully bricked or is there some other way I can unbrick this?
Thanks in advance.
I am going to assume that since you are able to get into download mode that you are not hard bricked but just soft bricked. In which case there must be some files that you can flash with odin to get you back to a stock version of honeycomb...or actually rather be able to flash another kernal through odin.
Again im not sure with how flashing with the gtab since I havent flashed anything on mine yet but I have experience flashing different kernals on my captivate and that was what happened to me numerous times.
That was my first thought too when I realized Download mode was still accessible. The file I tried was Overcome's CWM recovery file so that's one possibility why it was not able to go through. I would try flashing various kernels to see if I can get anywhere but I have yet to find any stock/relevant kernels to do so.
UPDATE: ... I apparently had KIES running in the background so I closed that and bam, it is now able to enter recovery mode. I did a factory reset, cache wipe and all but it still is not able to boot up. I reckon I still require a proper kernel. It still is impossible to access the device's internal storage however so I am not able to simple drag and drop the necessary files.
Is there a way of doing this via ODIN as is the only method I have available?

Install new Recovery, then skip to restoring stock mod, I am doing it right now, hope it works. Was looking for solutions all day nothing else is there
did the very same thing when I first got my Rogers Tab: follow the Overcome guide exactly and all will be well again -- flash the re-stock package first, then jump straight to the latest Overcome 2.2.0 with the CWM and you can use Pershoot's kernel too if you wish.

KIES is a program that's running on your PC. I would hazard a guess that you just need to close it as you would with any program. The op was apparently connected to the computer when trying to get into recovery mode. If you're not connected to the computer when you hold power and volume - and you get the two options. Recovery on the left, download mode on the right. Choose the one on the left with the volume -button and start recovery when it's highlighted with volume +
Hope this helps.

Ok,...I see that there is enough info posted to get you back up... but just an FYI.. this device has a seperate recovery and kernel...in other words.. to root you just need to Odin a compatible recovery and then install the correct binaries to gain root access.
This device is so simple to root... I have an e4gt..and that device(until framaroot)..was a pain.. it's recovery is part of the kernel.. not only that, but it can be implemented different ways into the kernel
Back on topic..... locate a recovery.. Odin it... reboot.... boot to recovery.. flash root zip... If you have flashed something wrong but still have Odin mode.. like said above.. flash the stock rom or if you can't find it... flash the recovery(for the device) then boot to it and then put a custom rom on...

ODIN?
Have you ever used the program ODIN? If you already have the driver installed into your computer ODIN should be able to bring it back. Install Odin and find the your Operating system files for your phone. Im sure theres a video or forum for it. Google it.

Of course you don't have CWM Recovery; you flashed a stock kernel. Having root and having CWM are not the same thing.
Relax, you didn't do anything wrong; you're just not finished yet. What you need to do now is download Mobile Odin from the market, and use it to flash either Entropy's Daily Driver or Siyah. Either one includes CWM Recovery.

All,
I kinda ran into an issue after i was trying to upgrade to ICS on my Galaxy S II.
I downloaded the ROM that Faryaab posted on http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1544487 .
SInce i upgraded to Android 2.3.6 before using the information from Intratech in the http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278 post i also installed CF-Root 5.
Using CWM version 3 i installed the new firmware that Faryaab posted.
I placed the extracted tar.md5 file in a firmware folder on the phone's SD card. At the start of the install i selected "Keep CF-Root"
But after the phone rebooted one and continued with the install i briefly saw an error.
After this the phone rebooted again but froze at the "Samsung Galaxy SII" bootsplash.
I am still abale to get into CWM Recovery but í don't seem to be able to install another ROM or do anthting else.
Also i'm unable to install any updates using Odin3 v1.85 but this is probably due to the fact that i have CWM installed.
The same go's for "Odin3_v3.04" and "Odin Multi Downloader v4.28".
Unfortunately i'm a complete NOOB when it comes to this as i haven't played around enough to really know exactly what i'm doing.
I tried to explain everything i did as precice as possible and i hope someoone can help me!
I can't make a lot of sense of your post, but you don't mention download mode once.
I don't know how you've managed to flash something with "CFM version 3" (whatever that is) nor why you'd want to keep a GB kernel with an ICS ROM (that won't work).
Sorry for the confusion.
I used CWM version 3, i just noticed i made a typo.
I think the kernel is my mistake. I flashed the new ICS firmware before upgrading the Kernel...
Right now i'm unable to use Odin (for as far as i can determine).
I;m able to startup in download mode (power+volume up+home) at which point i am able to get into CWM Recovery (part of CF-Root).
That is all, im completely stuck with what i know.
