Use SonyEricsson Syn service or Google sync. You can also download MyBackup Root from the market. Also, see below. You should have posted this in the Q&A forum.

Post What Where:
General - general technical discussion items, news, anything else that does not fit into the other fora categories.
Q&A (Questions and Answers) - all questions, irrespective of type, get posted in here whether they be theme related, accessory related, technical, etc.
Accessories - any items to do with components and/or accessories relating to your device.
Rom Development - only meant for very advanced technical discussion directly related to ROM development activity and the delivery of actual ROMs and ROM components ONLY. Nothing else goes in here.
Themes & Apps - anything to do directly with the development of themes and/or applications. Nothing else goes in here.
MOD EDIT: BEFORE POSTING ANY THREAD IN THE DEVELOPMENT SECTION, PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING:
If you have developed a ROM, or are working with others to do so, the development forum is somewhere to discuss and share ideas, post useful feedback and logs or crash dumps, and to discuss a common goal developers are trying to achieve.
It is NOT the place to post your question because it gets higher traffic, or because more experienced users frequent it. Doing this just annoys those who are working on the device, and drives them away. Developers don't want to wade through 20 threads of "Help me urgently" to find their threads for porting and fixing camera issues etc. Similarly, if a thread is designated as discussion for developers say, porting a camera fix, please do not post in there asking "When will it be ready?", "Can I flash this yet?" etc. This is both completely disrespectful to those working on the project (you evidently haven't read the important posts in the thread), and also is making it harder for developers to find comments from other developers or testers when required.
Similarly, don't make loads of "Thanks for your work here" posts in an active development thread. It's just as annoying to developers as asking when something will be ready. If a ROM is complete, then go ahead and thank the developer if you wish, but don't go into threads for devs only, and interrupt it to post "thanks". It's basically spamming, and is treated as such.
If you are posting in development, you should have read every sticky and notice there, and should be actively developing or helping in the development of something. Developing isn't installing a ROM, or using a tweak, it's creating a ROM or other hack or tweak. If you haven't read for several days before starting out on XDA, you are likely about to ask something already solved. I registered on XDA when I first wanted to post, and that was to join in a discussion on something. Sure, join up and ask a question, but read the information available in General and Q&A first, as your question will have been asked before. Search is your friend here, become familiar with it.
Regarding when to post in development if you are not actually developing something, there is one occasion where it's acceptable. If you find a leak of a new ROM, which isn't already posted, and you verify it's legitimacy via either running it, or based on the source you obtained it from, then this is assisting in development, and should be posted in development. If you want to ask when a leak will be available use search first, then if not already in discussion, open a thread in general or Q&A.
If you have a problem flashing a ROM, this is NOT related to development. It's up to you to determine if it is specific to a particular ROM, and post useful information in that developer's existing thread for the ROM. If it happens on more than one ROM, and isn't a known issue (remember you should read several times more words than you post), then find out what you are doing wrong. Check guides written by others, try to repeat the problem and see if it happens every time. Something needs to be reproducible to be fixed effectively.
Once you have identified what you need help with go to the device Q&A forum (general if device lacks one), and make a clear, informative thread that explains the issue, and what you have tried doing to fix it. Did you re-download the ROM? Did you ask a friend to flash it for you, to reduce chance of user error? What steps (exactly) did you follow? What errors did you see (exact wording)? Did you double check all the steps? Did you do a wipe or hard reset?
If you make a clear, concise, yet detailed post, you will find help forthcoming, and should get the problem sorted very quickly. If someone suggests you try something, report back on what happened, did it work etc. Then, next time someone has this issue and searches, they will find this and have a verified and tested solution.
So remember... before you start a thread in development, ask yourself what you are developing. If you can't answer, then stop, step away from the post button, and think about where you are posting. Would it be better in General or Q&A, or is some more time with your best friend, search, required?

No. 2.0.2.A.0.24 is. But, this can not be rooted with the "conventional" methods. Go here for more info.

Ok, I'm really in doubt between these 2 ROMs lol, they seem to be the same:

They are. The second one "Guaranteed working..." uses just the X-recovery method without the need to use the X10flash tool. You can flash which ever you want. They are the same.

And it seems the first needs JIT to be installed after. Hey, just one more thing, can I wipe out everything in my SD card through windows? Or I'll eventually get some errors?

Read here.
I am not sure where busybox is installed but, probably in system and not the Sdcard. Uninstall it and it should not stop you fro wiping everything.
EDIT
Busybox is installed in system/bin. Therefore, it is installed in the internal memory not the SD card.

Thing is BusyBox is needed for xRecovery, if I delete it from the SD (if it's there) I wouldn't be able to install the new ROM.

I'm downloading the newest ROM, or does it need to be rooted? Cus as I've already got xRecovery installed I don't think root is needed, is it?
And by the way, what has gone wrong for me to be stuck in SE's Logo? They wanna brainwash me?

DI01 was the first maintence release update for the Fascinate. If you are stock, this is most likely what you are running.
DJ05 was a leaked maintenance release that was never actually released, but fixed many bugs, including the GPS for most
DL09 is the current maintenance release that was leaked, but should be rolling out OTA soon. By most accounts, there isn't much difference between this and the previous leak.
TELUS is a Canadian service provider which also has a Samsung Galaxy S device named the Fascinate, but TELUS is a GSM carrier. Ideally, TELUS should have named their device after the Vibrant, as it is closer in hardware to that variant.
You should make it a bit more clear that posts concerning questions should be posted in the General Section instead of the Dev section.

It's not a negative, it's relevant. I'm not going to further compound an already confusing situation. If it's stickied, it's the responsibility of whoever started it to maintain that thread. There's no reason to sticky a thread that is out of date or no longer valid. The updates should be made to the OP and replace the outdated information.
... but thanks for your opinion, I'll take that into consideration.
A friend just bought a Fascinate and I'm having a hell of a time finding up to date info. Everything I seem to find leads back to the same link this leads to for rooting. The post for one click root that apparently is too old. Is there a new method to gain root on this phone?
Can anyone tell me how I can make a backup of my OS either turn it into a MD5 or zip file?
I mean like the ones that are used to return to stock or upgrade to a newer version.
Thanks in advance.
there is a app called odin maker that will allow you to backup your os as a .tar file.

[Q] Rom manager not working, any simple alternates?

I managed to root my phone and install Rom manager from the marketplace so I could flash a stock 2.2 rom (instead of the 02 one I have)
But I cannot get it to boot into clockwork recovery or install from SD card.
any ideas?

Its 02, I installed Rom manager (previously clockwork mod). I successfully flashed the recovery but when It reboots it doesn't boot into recovery.
Flash THIS Recovery
Or THIS Recovery
And both will let you into recovery but you can only flash a custom rom with those recoverys
If you want to flash THE OFFICIAL 2.2 Then Flash THIS Recovery
Hope that helps
Edit: Ah posted at the same time.. will have a look and report back shortly, thanks!
EDIT 2: Ok, had a look.... how to I flash recovery's? ROM manager has the option to use different recovery greyed out? And there no way im doing that fastboot, takes far too long!
So have you figured out that ROM Manager doesn't work for the Streak?
Hmm... QDL and Fastboot seem to take a little less time than say AT&T OTA
Start Here:
http://streakdroid.com/?page_id=92
What I missed ? Everytimes , I tries to flash a new rom on my Dell Streak , with Rom Manager , when I finished the step " reboot and install " , then my Streak simply rebooted and then no further action taken .
To everyone trying to use ROM Manager on the Streak:
STOP!
ROM Manager has never worked on the Streak and continuing to try to use it will only result in headaches on your part. The only accepted method of flashing a ROM on a Streak is through the Recovery. Speaking of the Recovery, it should NOT be Clockworkmod, because that recovery doesn't work properly with the Streak. Streakmod is the recommended recovery.
Now, had you ROM Manager guys actually searched the forums you would have found this out rather than posting yet another thread on how the app doesn't work.

you all over the place with this. You are my hero right now.
Sadly the folks will still post without searching.
Quite honestly, I have little enough patience for people as it is. People who seek the "quick fix" and are unwilling to put the time in to learn about their devices are annoying enough. Lazy ass people who can't be bothered to spend the time looking for answers to their questions before posting are a plague. Both deserve to be taken to the back of the tool shed and flogged.
I believe from now on, in addition to calling out people for being total idiots, I'll be reporting the posts as well. Because this bulls**t has got to stop. Searching before posting is the number one site rule on XDA, and it's about damn time it gets enforced. The only way for it to BE enforced is by letting the moderators know about it.

Post #2 is from the moderator, too often these threads get shuffled around and are not closed and/or deleted.
Yeah, I know Lufc moved the thread. He's pretty proactive on that. But unless people report the thread as violating the site rules he really can't do much about it.
I've been pretty lenient in just posting reminders to get the noobs and lazy people among us to actually use the tools that are present on this site. But my patience for that crap is at an end. If someone can't be bothered to use the search tools on this site, expect to be called out on it and the post reported.
EDIT: Looking back at the thread, can someone explain to me just how in the heck you can come upon a thread that details the problem you are having and not at least read the thread before you post to it?
I'm starting to notice a trend. I think that as our phones get older more people are ditching them, selling them, and the new owners are stumbling on XDA.
I know I was a total Android noob when I got my Streak, but had been on XDA for a while, so was well aware of the search function. Not to mention reading the stickies.
I think this is gonna keep getting worse!

The ONLY times you should be posting in dev forum is if its in reply to a topic, You should NOT be creating topics in there, simple!
You want to ask questions do it in the questions forum, how hard is that to grasp???

-Check whether you have done the correct wipes as mentioned in the ROM thread.
-Some ROMs require formatting system. So if it is mentioned in main ROM thread then you must do it.
-Some releases may require stock rom first before flashing the custom rom. So flash the stock rom and then the custom rom over it.
If nothing works just download the stock ROM for your mobile and flash it using flashtool. This may solve your problem.
Q2: Can you suggest me the best ROM or kernel or something like that for my smartphone cause i'm really lazy to do a bit of searching...?
A: First go here and beware before asking these type of questions again otherwise you will end up with a bunch of people like me mocking you and nothing else.
Q3: I have rooted my phone successfully, now how can I install CWM (ClockWorkMod) Recovery?
A: If you have locked bootloader you can simply go to this thread by atis112. And if your bootloader is unlocked you can simply flash a custom kernel with CWM or some other recovery present in it.
Q4: I have a problem with this ROM and what should I....
A: It's a ROM specific question, better post it in the ROM thread. They will help you better.
Q5: My phone can't boot in fastboot mode. Please help me!

A: Firstly check that fastboot is enabled on your mobile and the correct procedure to go to fastboot mode is by holding vol-up button and connecting to computer via USB.
Q6: WIFI is not working. What should I do?
A: See if it is listed as a bug in the specific ROM thread. If not try custom kernels and if you can get correct WIFI modules flash them. If you're lucky WIFI will work.
Q7: How do I install custom rom/kernel on my mobile?
A: Mihahn has worked really hard on making his guide not because he wants some people asking again and again the same questions instead of using a bit of the "SEARCH" feature.
Q8: What is the safest way to root my phone or unlock its bootloader?
A: There no such thing as safest way. If you do everything correctly you will be successful. Just follow the instructions given in this great thread by dewanshu93.
Q9: I did something wrong and now my phone is bricked. Please help!! :crying:
A: Try and follow this excellent guide by Toledo_JAB. Your phone most probably should work now.
Q10: How do I unlock my bootloader if it says Bootloader Unlock Allowed:No?
A: No one has actually got a 100% working solution since it is because of your simlock, thus you may have to pay for it. You can try WotanServer or Omnius and if you're lucky it will be unlocked and fastboot might be enabled.
Q11: How does Thanks Meter affect my profile?
A: Thanks Meter actually is not useful in becoming Recognized Contributor/Themer/Developer. It is actually the appreciation you get on you works. Thanks Meter has been made so that members of XDA stop posting just THANKS on threads and thread could be clean and helpful.
Q12: How to be a Recognized Contributor/Themer/Developer?
A: Recognized Contributor is a role intended for members who produce some of the best original and helpful guides for users, as well as helping other users who have problems, in a friendly manner. Recognized Contributors will get a custom user title and the faster ad-free XDA template, as well as access to developer tools currently being created. Any Senior Moderator on XDA can add Recognized Contributors, should you feel deserving of this title.
Recognized Themers are those users who work (often tirelessly) on designing new theme graphics and user interface overhauls for ROMs. Users who aspire to be Recognized Themers should be creating original graphics work for their themes being released, demonstrate a commitment to crediting other users’ work when applicable, and seek the relevant permission in advance from the original creator. Recognized Themers will receive a custom user title and the faster ad-free XDA template, as well as access to developer tools currently being created. Any Senior Moderator on XDA can add Recognized Themers, should you feel deserving of this title.
Recognized Developer, as the name suggest are those who develop really good ROMs, kernels, etc. Anyone who is skillful and publishes his own creation other that just copying and pasting can be termed as recognized developer.
For more details and how to apply for these posts. See this.
Q13: What are Governors and I/O Schedulers, etc.?
A: See this very good guide by zhanjia and anyone can know everything about them.Though this guide is for Xperia 2011 but it covers a great range
Q14: Does ChainFire 3D support my phone?
A: The simple answer is download and use it. But if you are on ICS/JB I would recommend you not to use it as it may most probably result in bootloop. ChainFire 3D is compatible only upto GB.
Q15: Can you tell me how does thanks meter increases with regard to number of thanks?

Q16: What are BB Codes and what BB Codes can I use in my thread?
A: Mainly every kind of text formatting that we do in XDA thread is governed by BB codes. Here is the list of all the BB Codes we can use in XDA and explanation of each code.
Q17: Is there anyway to mount my sd-card using CWM recovery?
A: Yes! Many versions of CWM support mounting sd-card through it. For that go to Mounts and Storage->Mount sd-card and you're done! But remember if you press back button then your sd-card will unmount instantly.

A: Here is template.
YouTube video demo.
Q21: How do I reset my phone or turn off when it froze? Battery is not removable. So is there any other way?
A:Yes you can reset your phone. There are 2 ways for that:
1. If you want to restart - Hold Vol. Up+Power button for 5 seconds and as soon as you hear a vibration leave the buttons.
2. If you want to turn off - Hold Vol. Up+Power button for 10 seconds and as soon as you hear 3 vibrations leave the buttons.
Q22: My phone can't restore the backups I made from recoveries. Why?
A: Well there could be various reasons for it. It may happen because you may have made them from some other recovery which makes backup in some other format and restoring it from another recovery which makes backup in another format(take TWRP and CWM for instance), so backups made in one recovery wouldn't be visible on other.
Another reason could be that you have renamed your backups and they have spaces in them. Remove the spaces and voila! you would be able to restore now!
Q23: I'm facing various status errors in CWM. Can you please help me?
A: Try this.
Q24: How to install fastboot and other device drivers on windows 8?
A: Try this great tutorial by garvitdelhi.

HELP! please!!!! Xperia U!
I have never used this site before so I'm a bit of a NOOB.
I have attempted to put a custom rom onto my Xperia U which is unlocked to all networks. (ST25i)
the rom is: Dynamic ROM.
I have rooted my phone and unlocked the boot loader.
I have installed the ROM through recovery mode>install rom from SD card> it installed and said complete.
I rebooted the phone and now it continuously restarting itself. the Sony logo shows and then it attempts to load the rom (black screen) the restarts again and again. the trouble is I can't revert back to stock rom and I haven't made a back up. I need some help ASAP.
please, anybody? I will be very grateful, thanks in advance.
Just out of curiosity. I have an Xperia Go and was wondering if when you unlock the bootloader does it wipe your phone data? (Everything you may have installed)
I'm only new to the whole Sony method unlocking of the bootloader.
Thanks

Did you make sure you wiped your phone before installing? If yes then try reflashing(installing) the ROM again.

To install custom rom:
Download the custom rom.
Reboot into recovery.
Install from sdcard.
Choose your rom's zip.
Install it.
Before that back up your required apps, contacts, data etc.
And also create a back in recovery also.

Probably YES, since the key/IMEI is unique.
Don't know about the certified service points, though. Since AFAIK Sony doesn't repair the devices itself (like any other major vendor), there are certified partners to do that.

This new method is exactly what I was posting about!!!
I never thought I'd be coming back but clicking the wrong link in my browser lead me back to the Z Ultra general page when I found this thread. I guess it's a good thing the most popular currency converter website's URL also begins with an x. http://www.xe.com/
I just briefly went over this so I am not quite ready yet but I will be happy to combine all this information and make a new sticky thread that combines this new method and another linked in this page.
My only questions for now is: What must be done to retain DRM keys and how does unrooting work with this new method? When I get answers to those questions and more time to read this and other recent related threads in detail and well analyzed, I will get to work on the new thread if you guys like.
I have GPe model so my opinion shouldn't count, here it is anyways. Unless you intend to keep the thread up to date it wouldn't be worth doing. As you can see things can change quite a bit in a rather short amount of time.

As long as I receive adequate support from tech people, I will maintain the thread. I will even make a GPe thread if the procedure becomes significantly different enough to justify one. It's probably better to make a separate one for GPe if even just one thing is different just do avoid misunderstanding instructions.
If someone else would rather do this, I wouldn't mind. Unfortunately, this method has been out for a week already and it doesn't look like anyone else is interested in volunteering to make that thread so I will. This is one contribution that I can make to this site.

Sounds great then, I wasn't trying to discourage you just putting my two cents where it doesn't belong. As for the GPe it doesn't require this kind of exploit. Thanks for taking the lead on this and look forward to seeing your guide.
We already have TOO many threads.
This method will only be easier the the old method untill the next andriod release from Sony, then we will be back to the downgrade dance. No point in making a thread that will become out of date. Yes @LordManhattan needs to update his thread, but we dont need another root thread by someone that doesn't come here often.
If you really want to help don't reinvent the wheel. PM Lordmanhattan with corrections to his well used thread.

The problem with your suggestion is that the consumer version of the Z Ultra rooting wheel has neither been invented yet nor does LordManhattan seem interested in doing this. That consumer wheel is not even a rough prototype ATM. This was the source of argument the last time I was here. Even adfurgeson is being supportive of me doing this.
If Lord Manhattan decides to do this himself, I would be happy to abandon this project. The is he almost certainly won't but I will wait until he chimes in on this thread before doing anything.

WTF is this then
Downgrade to gain root
Follow one of the Downgrade paths below to end up with a 14.1.B.1.532 firmware that is rootable while keeping your imei # intact and working cell/data
Downgrade path 1 (very easy):
Download needed files
Download C6833_14.1.B.1.532_NUT.ftf
Flashing using flashtool
Flash EVERYTHING in the above ftf by @[NUT]
Reboot
Flash EVERYTHING in this ftf, (use the defaults) it will do the downgrade below so you will end up on .532 with a working IMEI ready to root with bin4ry's tool

Downgrade path 1 (very easy):
Download needed files <---- What needed files? Way too broad and vague. It sure would help to elaborate on this for newbies. Links would be ideal especially if the instruction(s) were also hyperlinks.
Download C6833_14.1.B.1.532_NUT.ftf <------- A link at the end of this instruction or even better, have the instruction as a hyperlink to the file.
Flashing using flashtool <----I presume you mean Nut's flashtool? Specification would help newbies not get off track.
Flash EVERYTHING in the above ftf by @[NUT] <---It appears to be a redundant instruction to the last one. I could be wrong which means clarity would have helped but if I am right, then the two steps could have been combined into one that reads: " Flash EVERYTHING using the NUT ftf tool."
Reboot < No editing needed unless reboot is different from regular reboot or some regular method(s) cannot be used.
Flash EVERYTHING in this ftf, (use the defaults) it will do the downgrade below so you will end up on .532 with a working IMEI ready to root with bin4ry's tool <---What ftf? Please clarify and link preferably making the clarity instruction(s) a hyperlink.

polargirl, I think you're forgetting one thing. This is a developer site. The guides which exist are already simple enough for non-developers/non-hobbyists people to understand. For example, the instructions which you and blueether 'discussed' right now. Here is the proper quote (with formatting) (which you should have done in the first place, @blueether :silly
1.Download needed files
Download C6833_14.1.B.1.532_NUT.ftf
2.Flashing using flashtool
Flash EVERYTHING in the above ftf by @[NUT]
3.Reboot
Flash EVERYTHING in this ftf, (use the defaults) it will do the downgrade below so you will end up on .532 with a working IMEI ready to root with bin4ry's tool
http://forum.xda-developers.com/devd...ct/dl/?id=3442
You will end up with a device that thinks it is a C6833 but when you flash 4.3 or newer (.290 or .136) just use the one for your real model and the model number will be restored.
Click to collapse
The above method will get you a rooted .532 system. Then simply follow this thread to get .757 rooted(it even has a video link).
Now don't ask how will a new user know that he/she is supposed to downgrade to .532 first, because it is written quite clearly in @LordManhattan 's thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2569904 (see the big red letters ?)
And while we're at it, his thread is concise and useful. A new user can follow his thread's instructions and end up with what he wants. Your standards of a non-prototype guide are too high. These guys are not getting paid to do it. They don't have to make it beautiful, they just have to make it functional. The only thing needed to understand these guides is the ability to follow instructions. The guides are good enough.
Few more things, polargirl.
Now we have a flood of new users who are asking not "How can I do this myself?" but more like "Give me the quick fix" without caring to understand the process. See if you read the threads then you get to experience the learning process, you see how the issues were investigated and confirmed. Then you get to watch the different attempts at resolution and learn why some failed while others worked. That is called Development.
The NooB backlash is coming from users who have walked in the development shoes and is directed mainly at those who don't care for the journey but just want the end result or destination.
As a Development Forum we are just as much (if not more) about the journey. I've read so many comments like "I don't have time to read all of the threads" or "I don't care how it works, just that it does". These very statements are contrary to the heart & soul of XDA-Devs and that is why the backlash is so strong.
Let me be very clear on this: IF YOU DON'T CARE ABOUT UNDERSTANDING THE JOURNEY THEN YOU PROBABLY SHOULDN'T BE HERE IN THE FIRST PLACE.

Each and new user, who gets a new device, will be 'lost' - without fail. You get 'un-lost' by searching, searching and more searching. So if you want to make a guide, you first have to understand what goes on behind it. If you're not willing to spend that time, then please don't attempt to make the guide. (And if you think you're spending too much time on it, remember - it takes 6 months to make a Rolls-Royce and only 13 hours to make a Toyota.) and how will you understand ? By searching...
How programmers think:
Im curious about "X"....
Im going to search for "X" where i think im going to find it
I found it! I like it,
Hmm what is this in here? What is "Y"??
Im going to search for "Y"
NO!?! I ll ask a buddy programmer....
He told me "Z" just... "Z"
Im going to search for "Z"
OH!! that makes sense!!!!
Im going to use that!
See a common trend? Search, learn, search, ask, search, learn, search, ask , search.
In programming this leads to the thinking, "Why type something again if its already been typed? - I can copy and paste!!!"
Similarly:
In forums and helping others it leads to thinking: "Why type something that has already been typed? - If you search "X", you find something that has already been typed and i dont have to copy and paste it or find it for you!!!. " Search this word.....

As said above its not out of being rude or elitist, its a way of thinking.
-That way of thinking is a part of programming, and leaning anything in that world, you have to learn the way of thinking. >
-Part of the learning to think that way is getting fed up and saying "Im just going to find out myself!!" >
-Then, by the time you learn how to find anything you want to know on your own, you have an epiphany and realize they were telling you "exactly what you needed to hear". They were the Oracle and you are Neo. The Matrix has you, and it was all about the journey!

So please, this is a humble request to you. If you want to write this guide, be prepared to invest your time. If you want to make a better all-in-one rooting guide, please do it. I do hope it is better than LordManhattan's guide. But do not expect us to agree that what's functional is not even a rough prototype.
As for "support from the tech people" -
We will help, but again -
If you ask a trivial question, you'll get the usual one word answer. If you ask something non-trivial that cannot be explained by a simple search, you may even end up getting page-long answers.
I hope that puts an end to this stupid fighting we've been participating in. Please pardon me if you feel that I've been going off on tangents.

My only questions for now is: What must be done to retain DRM keys and how does unrooting work with this new method?

It's true though. I haven't updated my thread in awhile now. It's A LOT of work, and you must always know what's what and how to do it. If Polargirl can't even follow a regular rooting guide that noobs have followed for ages, I highly doubt she can make AND maintain a thread like that. She should probably just READ like the rest of us have done.
This is my first and last post in this thread since I'm not throwing away my time on this stupid thing - again.
