[Q] X10a World Generic Says Roaming on AT&T? - XPERIA X10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all,
I have a quick question. I flashed my AT&T X10a to world Generic. Im from Minnesota. When I travel to North Dakota and Nebraska my phone all ways has an R over the radio status bar. Now the problem is I know I'm not roaming because my brother has an X10a that is 1.6 and it never says its roaming. Then when I go to Settings/Wireless&Network/Mobile Network/Network Operators it says Im connected to AT&T with a bunch of numbers. At my house it doesnt have any problems. It says im on an Edge network. At my house it says im on ATT DR. Is there a way to fix this?

Hmm that is weird. I think you might want to get a new SIM card from AT&T. I've heard that it can do the trick sometimes.

Ok How do I order a new SIM card? I think I fried it a bit when I was using my prototype Vivaz Pro.

Just go to any AT&T store and get one. Or call them up and they will mail you one.

Ok thanks!!!

Who's rom are you using
To be clear. What types of networks are our rezounds capable of running on in North America.
Do we get full HSDPA+ on ATT or just Edge here.
Also, What about UTMS networks like TMobile. Can we have a guru chime in here?
there capable with frequency that have 1900/2100 since most gsm company in the u.s has 1900 frequency you can only get edge with it, but some people were able to get 3g like t-mobile and Att because of there 1900/2100 frequency they have.
please explain what is or are guru chime
on stock ics, can not even save a second apn. after pressing save there is no error, but the new apn is not listed.

I am rather intrigued by this subject, because I do sometimes travel to other countries. Not very often, less than once per year.
My wife has an iPhone 4s which is an official Verizon global phone. From the latest ruu leak, the rezound will soon be joining the list.
With a Verizon global phone, one can automatically roam on CDMA and GSM networks at a cost of $2 per minute or more depending on the country. This seems like a lot but I think one can call the USA without any long distance charges.
An alternative is to use a GSM ROM along with a SIMM from a cell company in that country. But, what will it cost to call the USA?
Another variable us the length of travel. My last trip abroad was just for a weekend. Arrived on Friday afternoon and flew home on Monday morning.
Perhaps a GSM ROM SIMM coupled with Skype or Google Voice is more economical?
Anyways, I probably think about this more than it is worth.
On the subject of APNs, I ran across a free app which can load any of 1100 APNs depending on ones location.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.tweakkericsbeta
It does not seem to live up to its claims, because when I run it the only choice seems to be Verizon apn.
But it already has globe have you updated with the new ruu

For NET 10 using att phones this works best on ICS
hope there is no confusion. The internet does work with the listed apns before but internet becomes very sporatic and may have to be reset.
This also works very well for Redpocket as well just name apn to Redpocket and the mms proxy to rpmobileweb instead of tracfone.

The proxy setting only helps the MVNO, in this case NET10. They can and do use it to throttle certain types of data transfer. One specific type that I've experienced is that the android speedtest.net app will not function with this proxy setting in place. You can delete the proxy setting without ill effects on your cellular signal and, among other benefits, the speedtest.net app will once again work. YMMV.

What settings are you using I just did this for my old Aria to give to my coz for his Bday since he was still rocking an LG slider camera phone.

SIM or ROM problem

I am running a verizon I545 on the latest Hyperdrive ROM.
I am trying to get an AT&T global sim to work, which ive been told should work...but for text and talk only, no data. This is fine, text and talk is all i need.
The phone the sim came from works fine. They are old flip phones from our company and when we travel overseas we take them with us. I just hate trying to text on the damn thing with the DTMF keypad. With the sim in the work phone, im currently in Melbourne, Australia and picking up Vodafone. Texts and calls work fine. When i put the sim in my S4, the furthest i can get is to the Available Networks screen and it shows vodafone AU and Telstra Mobile.
Tapping either will either keep searching until it times out, or say that it is not registered and to try again later.

Contact whomever sold you the SIM and ask them for the APN. Many carriers use the AT&T network and affiliates but don't use AT&T APNs.
When I bought a global SIM, the carrier provided me their APN details. Even though it uses the AT&T network, it's not an AT&T APN.
Ya I tried all their settings to no avail. I ended up just breaking down and buying a local sim. Bummer not having a US number but using whatsapp for texting and it works out.
