I personally would say either jk2 or jl4 some people really like jl5 but I received horrible battery with it

I'm running Nero v3 with JL5, and I get great battery life. I also read of a lot of people getting great life with JK6. From what I can tell it varies from phone to phone.
Honestly, The best advice is to test different ones and see what works best for you.

Jl5 works best for me.

Of the stock Froyo kernels, the best combo was the JK6 Voodoo kernel and the JL5 modem. JK6 modem actually got better battery life, but it had a problem in which it would get stuck on EDGE if I left the 3G coverage area, and wouldn't reconnect to 3G without a reboot.
The best battery life I've ever seen on my Vibrant is still with Eclair + JAC XMOD kernel + JK6 modem, but again, there's that 3G reconnect problem. I'm using Eclair + JAC XMOD + JI2 modem right now, and my battery life is excellent.
Yeah, I'm not upgrading to Froyo/Gingerbread until Samsung releases the source code. None of the Froyo ROMs behave properly on my recalcitrant phone.

[Q] whats the difference?

people always talking about all these diff modems.. what are each for? whats the point of having different modems? what are they for? JFD, JI2, JI4, JI5, JI5, JK2, JK6, JL1
these are radios.. these affect for signal and data connection!
some work better than others.. jk2, jk6, jl1 are for 2.2 froyo the rest are for 2.1 eclair
which one do you prefer for signal and data for froyo?
currently using JL1 with Axura 2.2 so far so good..

Well JL1 has Great data, but bad battery.
And JK6 has Good battery, and good data, but data is not as good as JL1, so if you don't care about battery, JL1 is for you, or if you want the best but not really best of both worlds, get JK6.
JK2 has Great battery, but bad data

Personally, I use JK6 because I care about battery and data

Best modem for my vibrant?

Im running bionic rom which is great compared to stock 2.2 but my data is really slow.

That is because Bionix V uses KA7 modem and that is TERRIBLE when it comes to reception and data.
Flash a KA5 modem. Look under the dev forums for the clockwork flashable download.
That will fix your data and improve your reception.
Will do thanks, anyone else have suggestions?

I think you should use the JL5 modem I got crazy speed on my vibrant. Indoors I would get like 2.5mbs down and outdoors I get like almost 5mbs. Crazy good and I can't complain about battery life but maybe that's because I got a spare battery

We all seem to have differnt luck with different modems.
KA7 is the best for me followed by KA5 and JK6 but your mileage may vary.

has them all. Try 'em all out untill you find the best for you.
Its gonna be a crap shoot depending on where you live...My data was out for 6 days until this morning and I can only get Edge so the KA7 is working good for me and I ve tried em all.
Mileage may vary seems the best answer for sure. JL1 works best for me. No idea why but data screams. KA6 was alright, KA7 blows. everything else was just average.

Have you try factory reset? That seems to work for some people.
Or you can try flash modem to which ever version that works best for you. It seems to work for most phones...except few oddballs out there.
Asking won't help much, you just gotta test it to know which is best for your phone. KA6, KA7 all works for me.

Not that TERRIBLE. BOTH works for me just fine. KA7, I did not have to do clear anything.
Tried all them and so far ka5 is ok.. Ka7 has fast gps lock but slow data, ka6 has fast data, fast gps lock but very innacurate, telling me im 30 miles from where I really am. Jk6 has extremely fast data but no gps lock at all. Then theres the ka5 which gives me decent data speed and fast gps lock. Does the modem really have anything to do with gps ?

Axura or trigger

I'm currently on trigger 2.7.0 with deadhorse kernel.
But I heard that Axura have better battery life than any other rom,
so my question is if I flash Axura and deadhorse kernel would battery life increase or stay the same since I will be running the same kernel.
Don't tell me stuffs like battery life depends on how you use it etc....

I use them both and there is not much difference between the two for me to worry about as far as battery life
anybody else?
Sent from my SGH-T959 using Tapatalk
I don't think you can go wrong either way. With that said I was a long time axura user. I switched to trigger and have no regrets at all. Flashed overstock kernel on it and its just butter. My battery life is very good to.

I'm presently running Axura with Dead Horse & JFS lagfix. It's a nice ROM, but trigger and Darky's are definitely more snappy. Battery life seems the same.
Im using trigger and its amazing but my battery life isnt that great

I use Bionix so it's hard to answer that, but I will tell you that I also use the overstock 1.4 kernel and it's been better then anything else battery wise.

Ka7 vs kb5

Just like the title said i need help deciding between modem ka7 or kb5 for my cm7 which one would give better signal and better battery life? Thnx

i like ka7
For some reason the signal on ka7 for me keep dropping and gaining randomly
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA Premium App
try them both for a few days, see which works best for you
I've had immense success with KB5.
Sent from my Vibrant using my fingers.
It's going to vary between users because of different devices and even because of your location. I'd try both like one user said and see which works best. But I wouldn't stop with just those two because KB1 has been very good too. That one was best for me until KB5 came out.
Put KB5 down on me
