I am extremely new at all of this but have been reading this forum for a while. I am unable to find the answer that will fix my problem so any and all of your help will be appreciated.
I flashed the latest version of Axura on my stock + rooted vibrant using CWM. I had used titanium back up prior to flashing. After Axura was installed I used titanium back up to restore all apps and system data and found that my phone had become very slow and wasnt getting email, text notifications. I decided it would be best to go back to stock. I did so by going into CWM recovery (volume up +down + power) and did restore to what I thought was the ROM that was backed up before I flashed. The recovery screen showed that it was recovering various components (took about 10 minutes) and the phone re booted on its own but now it will not go past a black locked screen. THe date and time are shown correctly but the phone keeps flashing the same screen every 30 seconds and with vibration. I did go back into cwm recovery and disabled vodoo lag fix, but that did not help it either.
Is my only option to flash stock thru ODIN? Or can I use something in the CWM recovery screen to bring my phone back to life? Please help.

Ok this is what I tried to do. I am currently using "Vibrant_Frankin_Twiz_Update3" ROM and I used Clockworkmod ROM manager to flash Vibrant Stock ROM. I back up everything with Titanium and did a Nandroid back up with ROM Manager. Now the problems.
When I manually boot into recovery I get the stock recovery when I go to reinstall package it says it cannot, and it will not take me to Clockworks Recovery mode.
When I just let it reboot I get the :Vibrant_Frankin_Twiz_Update3" boot animation all the way to the end, then when it would be time for the phone screen to come on it just goes black, just a black screen but if I touch the bottom touch pad keys "menu, home, back, search" they all light up but nothing else happens they just stay lighted up I then have to remove the battery.
This is where I am now and I have no more ideas, please help, thank you!

Hooray!!!!!!!!!! Figured it out!! I downloaded Clockworks recovery image renamed it "update" then put it on my internal SD using Droid Explorer, manually boot into recovery (stock) then reinstall package, the Vibrant found it and went straight to Clockwork recovery which i then was able to access my Nandroid back up and backed it all up.
Whew!!!! Just thought I would put this out here hoping it may be useful to someone.
I flashed CM7 last night, loaded GAPPS, and the market was updating my apps, when I noticed none of the apps were updating. updates were all failing. I went into recovery and restored BAMF 1.5 remix. Now I have a problem. I can not download or update anything from the Market, all attempts fail. I cannot access CW recovery, the HTC white screen is as far as I get. I deleted rom manager, and tried to access CW recovery and still failed. I tried to do a factory reset, and still only get white HTC screen. Tbolt is functioning, I just can't fix my issue. Please help. Thanks.
You can't get in CW recovery or stock recovery?

Did you try reflashing CW through ROM Manager?
Yep. very strange. I even tried to wipe the phone with factory reset, and just get stuck on white HTC screen. I had deleted rom manager because of something else I read, and can't get it back, But I can't even get to recovery from bootloader.
You can get to recovery through the bootloader by shutting off the phone and turning it back on holding down the volume button and pressing power toggle down to the recovery option and press the power button

Actually I spent a good few hours yesterday trying to help Orio out and we attempted a quite a few things to try and fix the recovery issue, this post should offer a bit more insight to the methods used;
adb reboot recovery failed
Reinstall latest Rom Manager apk and Flash CWM
flash latest rom manager via fastboot (CWM only)
(fastboot flash recovery /sdcard/recovery-clockwork-3.0.2.5.img)
**did not do fastboot erase recovery first**
"return to stock safely and properly" XDAthread by jcase
return to stock image [RUU], reroot, try again
try to boot into recovery via hboot
manually installed fix_permissions.sh script and busybox on rooted stock, ran.. didnt fix
tried to see if flash_image method would work, didn't
All of the above have failed and we basically tried almost all combinations. Never once would this phone get back into recovery, even after flashing the appropriate RUUs which include either stock android or CWM recovery. The only thing we have not currently attempted which might be the last thing left is to do is manually install the nandroid.sh script and do an advanced restore of the recovery image only from a nandroid backup on SD. I would rather not go down this method as it could have an undesired result, I have done it to restore a G1 back in the day but not 100% if its gonna work on a tbolt. Thankfully his phone boots, and we can get into hboot, but yea.. pretend recovery just doesnt exist at all...
Curious if anyone has any knowledge above what we have already tried.
SUCCESS !!!
I fixed it !
Apparently, when I loaded up cm7, files showed up about the same time on my sdcard in clockworkmod download file. I deleted those files, and reflashed clockworkmod in rom manager, (which this time took like 3 - 4 minutes), and rebooted into recovery and it worked...did it again, just in case it was a fluke and it worked.
All is well now...the planets are realigned !!!
Thanks everyone for your ideas and especially thanks to mattgyver83 who helped me for something like 4 hours yesterday. Exceptional kindness !!
mods...you can close this thread.
i went from cm7 back to stock with odin. i used the one click root to root the phone. now when i go into the stock recovery and choose ‘Reinstall Packages’... it says that it updated but will never actually go into recovery. it just reboots the phone and the phone starts up fully. if i try to flash a rom with rom manager, same issue... it will just go to the stock recovery screen and if i choose ‘Reinstall Packages’, i just boots up like it was restarted.
any help much apreciated!
update: im showing stock 2e recover not 3e so this didnt work.
I am currently trying to flash my vibrant back to stock 2.2. My latest attempt was done using the AIO tools. Every method I have tried has lead to the Vibrant boot screen appearing for a few seconds, and then rebooting. Any suggestions?
Have you tried Odin?

Yes, I have tried Odin with and without AIO tools. In all of the threads I have looked at, the answer seems to be flash back to 2.2 stock, but that is what I am trying to do. Thanks.
Try to boot into recovery and factory reset and see if that breaks the bootloop. If not, see below.
*********
Do you have a nandroid backup of the 2.2 you were on an using? If so, I suggest Odin-ing to stock (2.1), then pull the CWR from my signature put it on your internal card and label it Update.zip. Boot into recovery and hit Reinstall Packages. It will cycle through and you'll have to hit it again. It will cycle through again and your stock (blue) recovery will go to CWR (green). From there you can restore your nandroid backup of the 2.2 you last made (or should have).
You can go to 2.1 using the toolbox, as it has the correct pit/tar files to do so.

I currently can not get into recovery mode. I am holding the power, vol+, and vol- buttons, inserting the battery and then releasing them when the vibrant screen appears. But it just continues to boot cycle.
I flashed the pit and tar that came with AIO tools. No go. Still just boot cycles. Sorry for being a pain.
I do have a backup, but I am not sure what I can do with right now.
Try turning the phone off, plug in USB hold just volume up and power on the phone..... that should put it into download where you can run Odin and flash back to stock

related problem (sort of)
Solved: problem solved. I reflashed CM7 over the bootlooping mess, and it took. Then I was unable to get AIO Vibrant Toolbox to recognize that debugging mode was on, even though it was. So I just copied the files over and went through a massive round of forcing the zip files on again and again. I now have Slim 3.5 on my phone, so I can start playing with it.
*****************************************
I'm an extreme noobie, trying to upgrade my T959 to ICS. I've picked Slim 3.5 (latest release version as of this week) as my first attempt (but really any simple but well-functioning ROM will do for me).
I've rolled back to Eclair (from the official Tmo Froyo upgrade way back when), rooted, and numerous times followed various directions to install the zip for Slim -- sometimes trying CM7 as an intermediate step. The CM7 install failed in the same way as the ICS, as described below.
I've done it with and without AIO Vibrant Toolbox. I've used ClockworkMod Recovery 2.5.1.2 to wipe the data, clear both cache partition and Dalvik cache, and format system. I've popped the zip file in various folders and at toplevel, both external and internal SD.
In all cases, it gets off to a good start, and then I'm left with endless bootlooping: Vibrant logo, Mod logo, a textblock of about 15 lines, repeat. I've always been successful after that in using Odin3 v1.81 to get back to Eclair.
I got sucked into a tech vortex until 4:30 am last night trying again and again, and I'm way way too old for that!
Any thoughts?
Hi, I have this problem. I had rooted galaxy S3 i9300, with Android Revolution ROM. I wanted to flash Liquid Smooth ROM and I did something wrong because I soft bricked it. So I downloaded some stock ROM (Not the one I used to have, completely different one with older android I didn't notice version I looked for region) flashed it with Odin, then rooted phone with Odin and flashed CWM with Odin, so I could do nandroid restore of the older ROM I had. The problem is I can't get to CWM recovery. When I turn on phone while holding Vol-, Home and Power buttons, I don't see Samsung logo, I get straight to download mode. Somewhere I read that you need to install CWM first and then root, so I did that as well and it didn't help. Can I restore my backups some other way? Or what should I do?
Edit: I installed ROM manager and tried to install CWM. It downloaded and then I got Flashing 100/100 and nothing happened. It froze and CWM was not installed. Then I found app CWM (idk if it was there before I didn't notice it) So I tried to restore backup with that and it did not worked as well.
Actually I wouldn't mind using this older version, I would say it's faster than newer one, but my network is not working. No signal so I need to repair that fast bc I don't have any other backup phone.
I'd say your best bet would be to try:
Flashing your stock rom again using odin.
Let it reboot and load, then switch it off.
Go back into download mode and flash cwm or philz touch or whatever custom recovery you choose. Make sure you untick the reboot when finished option in odin or else the phone will revert back to stock recovery.
Unplug the phone and pull the battery.
Hold down the vol+ / home / power button for about 5 seconds and then let the power button go. This should load the recovery. Reboot from recovery and it should be a permanent fix.
I'd then root and apply supersu and then install a custom power menu (xposed module + gravitybox) which allows you to boot into recovery/download mode straight from the power menu.
Good luck.
I did what you said, installed stock ROM, right one (I guess), flashed cwm, unticked reboot, after that I unplugged phone and pulled out battery. And now, if I try to enter recovery I just enter download mode again. Idk what did I do wrong?
