I have been trying to get the HTC_IME keyboard installed but it is not working for me. I have tried with ADB and root explorer and with terminal emulator. With any of these, it does not show up as an option to choose in Nook Color Tools. If I try to install the APK I get "Parse Error There is a problem parsing the package"
I have tried several different apk files, one from my HTC EVO, and a few from XDA downloads.
None of the Froyo HTC_IME.apk files show up at all in the keyboard list.
I can get one of the HTC_IME.apk files to show up in the list and it must be from a previous version of Android. When I chose it, however, no keyboard appears.
I have also tried various HTC_IME.apk files with an included Clicker.apk for calibration and still nothing.
Anybody have any success with the HTC_IME keyboard?

I played with it a little, too, but I didn't have any luck. I don't remember what I tried, but it involved NookColor Tools to switch and I ended up settling for the Gingerbread keyboard until someone figures this out.
There's an Eclair version and a Froyo version, and I think we need to use the Eclair verison.

Ok I've done a little research on this but can't find what I'm looking for exactly.
I really don't like the Blur Contacts app. I have figured out how to filter things correctly so I only get my usual Google contacts but I'd still like to get one feature back that I had on CM - direct dial and direct text message shortcuts. They were supported through the AOSP Contacts app from what I can figure out. The Blur Contacts app has something similar but it doesn't work consistently. Does anyone know if it's possible to install the Contacts.apk and ContactsProvider.apk extracted from CM 6.1.1 (what I had on my EVO) and bring them over to my rooted Atrix?
I'd like a different contacts manager as well. This one combines services which is not what I want/need. Any suggestions that are similar to CM contacts on N1 would be appreciated!
+1 more here for a different contacts app.

Bump
I'd also love the AOSP dialer

I tired this few days ago, nothing worked. =/
Click install throws an error and says it can't be installed. Pushing the apk to /system just has no result.
Moto's contacts are terrible.
How to Install Android AOSP Apk, in any system.
Find the AOSP apps from a CM6 build by unzipping and pulling the .apk file like browser.apk. Install "File Expert" (Free and amazing file browser with full root access and alteration capabilities application)
Copy the .apk you wish to have on to your phones SD Card
Run File Expert,
hit menu/more/File Explorer settings. Then check "Root Explorer" on the bottom.
hit menu/more/mount/Mount As Read Write
Browse to /System/Apps Find the App you wish to replace with the AOSP version.
Hold Down on the App and when the options come up choose file operations and rename to something like application name.apk.bak
Browse to your SD Card find your app. hold down to choose file operation then choose copy.
Go back to /System/Apps then hit Menu button and choose paste.
Locate the app you just pasted and hold down on it and in file operations choose "permissions" Check Everything and exit out of File Expert
Note: You may need to redo the shortcuts for the app on your desktop and or launcher.
Note: Must have a rooted phone.
Note: 2.3.3 apps may or may not work on 2.2 Android Roms and vice versa.
Note: if this causes errors or failures delete the new apk and rename the old apk to its original name.
Good luck!!
can someone upload the contacts apks?

Download the latest Cyanogen mod for your phone or any. Unzip on your pc and go to the folder labeled system/apps. Get the apps you want from there and pass them to your phone via USB to your phone then follow my previous instructions.
I have already tried to install a different dialer/contacts app. I had no luck, I think that the stock dialer/contacts are to deeply tied into motoblur and the phone system. It won't break your system but you just will not have a dialer or contacts.
Did you try it to my exact instructions. Making sure to you the cyanogen mod that corresponds to your version of android? If it didnt show up on your list you may have tried the 2.3.3 instead of s2.2 dialer.
Oh, I would love to hear the solution to this. I have been trying to figure this out for a couple days now. I pulled Contacts.apk from a Liberty backup I have and have been trying to replace BlurContacts.apk with it to no avail. I believe someone above may have touched on it. Possibly to change when other things look for BlurContacts, and instead refer to Contacts.apk?
I have tried several different contact apps. None work I think that the blur apps are to deeply tied into the system to allow a change.

any progress ??

I've actually been using GoContacts. It seems to work like how I want my contacts to work(I.E like ASOP) plus allows for a little bit more tweakability.
Im having a problem flashing a keyboard to replace the stock keyboard. I have successfully done this many times before but after flashing a theme, which also themes the stock keyboard, I can no longer flash a new keyboard over it.
Before, I had keyboards that where flashable zips on my SD card. I went into BSR and flashed the zip like normal, restarted and then the new keyboard showed up as the stock keyboard. Now, doing the same, the stock keyboard doesnt change. Its leading me to believe that the theme I installed did something different to the keyboard when it was themed by the dev. Maybe placed it in different location? I dont know.
Also, I have tried taking the LatinIME.apk out of the flashable zip and replacing the LatinIME.apk in the /system/app/ folder. I rebooted and still nothing.
I am using the ICS theme for eclipse.
My question is mainly, does anyone have any ideas as to what is going on here? Thanks in advance to everyone who helps out.

Hmmm. Didn't work for me. I did exactly what you said and didn't get an option for multi-touch keyboard. The "android keyboard" option is still there tho. And it still works but still has the old theme. But isn't it weird that it still works when technically I don't have the LatinIME.apk file in the system/app folder? Since I made it a .bak? Or am I not understanding what the LatinIME.apk file is?

hmmm weird okay...if youre up for it try this, as im kinda going from the top of my head as im not running eclipse... try deleting the latinime.apk or renaming it .bak like mentioned before from the system apps but all check the data/app folder if a keyboard is in that folder..if theres nothing else reboot the phone it should leave you without a keyboard at all but swype if thats the case then youre good flash zip (also is this the zip from the ics theme page??) and it should show up if not try looking inside that data/app folder and see if you can find the multitouch keyboard..it might be named differently but you should know its a keyboard ...if you find it in that folder move it to the system/apps folder where the original latinime.apk was and then reboot and im almost certain it would work ...thats how figured it out before and also the zip from the ics theme thread worked for me in one flash weather it was eclipse or liberty...
Ignore this post
I just looked in the system/app folder and saw a file named ics_keyboard.apk. is that what the theme is using instead of LatinIME.apk? The keyboards I have are not from the ics theme thread. I got it from another thread but like I said, they worked before. If the theme is using a keyboard with a different name, that could explain why its not getting replaced. I can probably just rename LatinIME.apk to ics_keyboard.apk

Eureka. That was it. I guess the theme changes the name to ics_keyboard.apk. I just renamed the keyboard I wanted to use. Thanks for helping out with everything.

Has anyone tried to reinstall the stock asus Keyboard app?
I know it's the "keyboard.apk".
I tried to install it via root explorer by moving it to /system/app then giving it all permissions and rebooting. But it still won't show up.
Any ideas?
The stock keyboard isn't inside Keyboard.apk; that only contains the shortcuts for the Asus dock keys. The Asus Keyboard is inside XT9IME.apk.
**Edit**
Never mind I found it on this old post. You need these files:
Needed for software keyboard:
XT9IME.apk
/system/lib/libjni_xt9input.so
/system/lib/libjni_xt9kcm.so
/system/usr/xt9
I yanked these out of the revolver rom and put them in place with root explorer.
Now I'm good to go. Thanks agentdr8.

I know this is an old post, but it's the only thread where I found someone was able to successfully install the Asus keyboard on a custom ROM. I have the files you listed, but I'm unable to copy them to the required folders. I tried with a regular file explorer as well as a root explorer. I am running CM10.1, rooted of course.

So I found another thread which included a file called asus_keyboard.zip which I simply needed to download and install from recovery mode, but after doing that when I select the Asus Keyboard I just keep getting the error message "Unfortunately Asus Keyboard has stopped". And it keeps popping up every 2 seconds until I disable it. Any ideas?
Here's where I found it: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1542502&highlight=keyboard
My HTC_IME keyboard touch input disappeared after my first reboot of achieving ICS RUU. I used root explorer navigated to system/app/ and i can see it there. However I wasn't about to install it after mounting and pressing the "install" option.
It says "Application not installed"
Anyone have the stock HTC_IME apk I can get from? Im not sure what version it is though.
I have the latest Euphoria (RC2.1) on my vibrant. I want to install the old samsung keyboard. I found the apk (axt9IME.apk) however trying to install it using a file explorer I get the "application not installed" message.
I want to use this particular keyboard as I can swipe the space key to switch languages quickly. I tend to type in both English and Arabic in the same sentence a lot.
Also, I would like to install the Experia keyboard. This is the only keyboard I like with a spell tip for the Arabic language. This is also important for me.
I don't know if I have the proper file, but I tried to install "textinput-tng.apk" and got the same problem as above.
Does anyone know what the proper way to install these keyboards is? Doc Master ICS rom has the samsung keyboard and I really miss it! However, it seems too buggy for me.
a
Also I forgot to add for the word prediction to work, is there any associated file/apk to transfer? I also have the Experia Arc and have access to all the files on it of course.
I just wanted to update that I found a flashable version of the stock Samsung keyboard with the Arabic language files. Flashing this .zip file worked.
However, that still doesn't answer the question of why didn't the .apk install, even after moving to /system/app and changing the permissions.
I need to learn this if I am to install the Sony keyboard, unless I can find a flashable version with the Arabic files (which I haven't so far)
