Using fastboot from the PC, as in
Code:
fastboot flash hboot name-of-hboot-image.nb0
(The phone needs to be in FASTBOOT USB mode (coldstart with Send+End), and an acceptable USB driver needs to be installed on a Windows PC)
The S-OFF bootloader is happy to let you replace itself - it is running in memory when you interact with it, not directly from the NAND flash memory.
You can find the .nb0 files inside any of the HTC leak PB00IMG.ZIP ROMs, or the "rom.zip" files embedded within the RUUs. (Note that the built-in Windows "compressed folder" methods for extracting a zip file will not work with these HTC .zip files because of the way that HTC "signs" these zip files, but the 7zip Utiltity for Windows will work).
The 1.47.0000 S-ON bootloaders are only found in the MR1 and MR2 RUUs; all of the "Leak" PB00IMG.ZIP files from HTC (Leak-V1,-V2, and -V3) contain the 1.49.0000 S-ON bootloader.
[SIZE=+1]Please be aware that flashing the bootloader is the single most dangerous thing you can do to your phone, and that if you flash a corrupted file to the bootloader you will certainly hard-brick the device. You absolutely must VERIFY THE MD5 SIGNATURE of the bootloader .nb0 image file before using it with fastboot! Fastboot provides you absolutely no protection from errors! YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED! You can find checksums listed in this reference post[/SIZE]
For clarity, I will repeat them here:
Code:
RUU___MR1 38899da4e5e002e3be22900f5f4eb6f7 hboot_7501a_1.47.0000_091023.nb0

PS I could swear I wrote a post essentially identical to this one within the last week

Can you please post a download link for either the MR2 or MR1 PB00IMG.zip files? I can't seem to find them.

[ Edit ] Updated - check Consolidated HTC Eris RUU/OTA/ROM URLs for the MR1 or MR2 PB00IMG.ZIP files - if you haven't already done the steps below. cheers! bftb0
I don't have a download link right now. If you want to wait a couple days, maybe I'll have something more convenient. In the meantime, the way to get these files is to run the associated RUU utility - but not all the way through. More on that in a second.
You can get the MR2 (1.17.605.1) RUU utility from this folder at shipped-roms.com - the MR2 link is the RUU_Desire_C_Verizon_WWE_1.17.605.1_release_signed_with_driver.exe link.
OK, now how do you "get" the PB00IMG.zip file out of the RUU?
Simple. You run the RUU right up to the point where you would normally be starting the install to the phone - but you don't do that. Leave the RUU running, don't terminate it yet. The point of doing this is so that the RUU unpacks all the temporary files it is going to use - including the "rom.zip" file. It puts all this unpacked junk in two temporary folders underneath your Windows user area, perhaps at
C:\Documents and Settings\<your_windows_user_name_here>\Local Settings\Temp
use your windows search capability to look for a big "rom.zip" file underneath there. (The two top-level folders will have long names that look like Windows registry keys). Note that you may have to diddle with your Windows Explorer folder settings to "Display Hidden Files".
Now copy the "rom.zip" file to some other location on your hard drive, and when the copy is complete, exit the RUU utility. (You can't do this until you have copied the file someplace else first, because all the temporary files get wiped when you exit the RUU).
You can then rename the "rom.zip" file to PB00IMG.ZIP. If I am not mistaken, the MD5 checksum of that particular (1.17.605.1) "rom.zip" file will be 9e9ad31f01bbcb05157443287f4f38dd
bftb0
PS. Note the "_with_driver.exe" part of the RUU file name. All the RUUs attempt to install a USB driver for the Eris on to your PC. Since MR1 and MR2 came out one year ago - a couple months after the consumer release of Windows 7, the drivers might not be the same quality as whatever you have on your machine now (if it in fact installs the driver despite the presence of an existing driver). Just a heads up in case it tries to kang a crappy driver into your Windoze box. You might want to take a restore point just before running the RUU in case you find you need to un-kang the driver from your PC.

Thanks for the download links. I had just extracted the rom.zip and found the bootloader and figgured that I should check the tread one more time. That's when I saw the edit! I guess I just have bad timing . Anyway, I went ahead and extracted the bootloader, here's a download link for the 1.47 S-ON bootloader from the MR2 update for anyone who wants it: http://www.multiupload.com/9300LRSFZP
Thanks

I just noticed that I forgot to mention that the way that HTC "signs" those "rom.zip" / "PB00IMG.ZIP" files makes the "compressed folder" handling in Windows unhappy, so you need to use some other tool on windows to unpack those .zip files. 7-Zip will do the job, though.
You obviously got past that, though.

Worked like a charm, thanks bftb0. BTW I'm getting my fifth Eris tomorrow, I got so tired of this I tried to get a different phone, they refused, so I went to best buy added a line and got a free DINC, more or less, I just have to pay an extra $10/month, I'm throwing my old Dare on that line so I don't have to pay for data. Now I can play with my Eris all I want and don't have to worry ruining my only phone

No kidding, my first one was amazing, ran stable and cool, no trackball issues. I got some dirt in the speaker, when it blew out completely I just got it replaced. If I'd have know all the issues I'd be having with these refurbs I'd have just bought a bluetooth and called it good.

Help with DCD

The file for sd card flashing a rom says it should be TITAIMG.nbh, why when i download just the rom is it dcd_titan_3.2.6.exe. I'm trying to load my phone up with 3.2.6 and radio 3.42.50, so far I have updated my bootloader to 2.47 and updated the radio, but now it is just stuck at the verizon screen everytime i load and the bootloader is not dectecting the .exe file.
You must RUN the exe. It will unpack a file called RUU_Signed.nbh or something (just look, you'll see it along with the rest of the stuff, just close the program when it opens). Rename that to TITAIMG.nbh and put it at the root of ur card.

If you have WinRAR or Winzip.... Right click on the EXE on the computer... extract the files.
In the extracted files list... find Ruu_signed.nbh.
Rename Ruu_signed.nbh > TITAIMG.nbh
Copy this file to the MicroSD card.. then get into bootloader.

Ahhh, I thought it was an executeable lol. Ok well anyways, i just went ahead and ran the kitchen utility and had it make one for me and renamed it, just now booting into windows 6.1 for the first time. One question, since i had the kitchen build the rom for me and i just used what was already checked as far as features and added no additional ones, is that gonna be identical to the rom i would get from extracting this .exe file?

Yup, just don't forget to run your carrier cab when done.

Since you r on verizon, you may have to get a new A-Key if this is the first time you flashed ur phone.

Congrats on getting it up and running
The mode 4 was a joke regarding one of the other threads in this forum (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=423231) which, incidentally, is where I would point you for GPS issues. Basically, you will need to get your phone into Service Programming mode via QPST and change some settings for the gpsOne chip. I say read through the thread (ignore some of the ehh....how should i put this....disagreements) and come come up with your own conclusion as to what the mode 4 issue is and what you need to do. Basically, If one doesn't work for you, try the other

[Q] update utility problems, help a noob please,

hi!
i am currently using an HTC HD2- ROM version: 1.72.206.3 (86372) WWE
Radio version: 2.07.51.22_2
as you can see i have made no changes to the software since i got it.
i have tried to load in a new radio and a new rom- Leo_RADIO_2.12.50.02_2 and
Miri_Steve0007_Elegancia_V3.0_FINAL... but when i go to load them usoing the update utility i get the message in the image.
thanks, harry.
Hi
From the looks of it, the filename might be incorrect or in the wrong location.
First, put the update utility file(s) in a folder along with the radio file that you want to use. Rename the radio file to ruu_signed.nbh (exactly like that). The try run the update - it should work.
If you follow the above instructions for your ROM file (Miri_Steve0007_Elegancia_V3.0_FINAL... ) then that should work too! Make sure you rename it as I have said above.
PS you can only update the Radio OR the ROM not both at the same time (as far as I know), so do one after the other.
Latz
Thanks for your reply. i done what you said, but am now getting "ERROR [238] : file read" :S
any ideas?
thanks, harry
Couple of things here
1) did you hardspl the deivce yet?
2) did you try and mount the files with a cd image mounter?
If you haven't done 1 then you can't flash anything that isn't a stock rom and if you did 2 you'll probably want to redownload the files. Also ensure that the path to the file doesn't exceed 256 characters. Some programs still have issues with really long file names
in post 1 that long filename, you didn't show the file extension, you are unzipping the downloaded file? (assuming it comes zipped, most do, zip, rar, 7z file extensions all need unpacking.
you shouldn't actually need to rename the file ruu signed, and you can't have two rom/radio .nbh files in the same folder.

[Q] Anyone else having problems with the downgrade RUU for Rooting?

Can't post in the Dev section yet. That's what I get for trolling around since you guys showed me how to root my OG Droid. Thanks, btw.
Now, I'm trying to root my Tbolt, and when I click on the downgrade RUU file to see the contents it says the file is invalid. So, then I tried to extract it, to see what would happen, but same message.
I also downloaded the exploits.zip and the final PG05IMG.zip and was able to view both their contents. Plus, I had to extract the exploits file to the SDK directory, and it worked fine.
So, I then downloaded from all three mirrors, but same result. And then I went to the rom.galaxysense.com site and downloaded from there, but same result. Am I the only one having retarditis? Is the file jacked, or just run-of-the-mill incompetence on my part???
Thanks to whomever takes the time to help out. And thanks for all the help everyone puts out there for the rest of us.
I am confused by your massive amount of words in this post. You need to say maybe, 20 things total.
First, you don't need to open anything, you simply need to put the ZIP onto your SD card and reboot into Hboot.
The only ZIP you need to unzip is the exploit.zip.
I don't need to extract them, I get that. I was looking in the zip files out of curiosity, but when the one file said it was an invalid file type I didn't want to put it on my SD card. That's closer to 20 words, hope that makes sense.

haha, I was feeling like being a smart ass. The RUU needs to be renamed to PG05IMG.ZIP and put on the sd card, then you need to reboot into bootloader.
Also to add, I came into the problem where I renamed to PG05IMG.zip It was already zipped so just had to name it PG05IMG Then it worked for me.
Thanks for the help. I guess no one understood what I was saying, but since no one else has mentioned the file being corrupted I guess I'll use it and hope for the best.
That's why I mentioned that the other two zip files would let me look at their contents, but the third one said invalid file type. I thought it was clear, but my bad...
Either way, here's another post towards getting out of noob post restrictions!

I'm pretty sure that the RUU downgrade is not something you can open. Just make sure the checksum is valid and you're good to go.
I had tried to flash the RUU after I first rooted becuase I was having location issues. It would check the PG05IMG.ZIP and go back to the Hboot screen. I had flashed another rom so I didn't mess with it any further.

Finally! I've been looking through threads forever in search of this very issue. I was all set on rooting last night, and just like you, the Mecha_RUU file wouldn't unzip, said it was invalid, etc. I stopped right there out of fear that I'd get burned pressing on with one of the key files "broken." Have you rooted since with no trouble?
The best thing to always do is get an MD5 sum for the file and compare it to the root post. I have rooted my thunderbolt twice now and never had a problem.
If the md5sum is correct then you should be fine. Also remember in Windows, it hides the extensions. So when you rename your files do not add the extension as it is already there.
You can show the extensions by changing the folder settings.
Downgrade wont flash
1) Power down phone
2) Power up phone holding volume down
3)No option to upgrade just starts checking files
4) Third check is the downgrade file, starts loading
5) Fails because the file is Older than the main
Ive seen other threads touch on this but no one answer it. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated. Also I have already updated to the 7/8/11 OTA.

I appreciate the thread link. That's exactly the error I'm getting. Problem is I'm supposed to downgrade to obtain root ( or at least that's one of the steps). I have downloaded this downgrade file from multiple links and verified its the correct one to use in this step and I always receive the "main version higher" issue. Should I be using a different file to downgrade or is this no longer an option for root since the 7/8/11 ota?

Interesting..
I wiped everything ADB and Thunderbolt related from my PC.
Then I downloaded the easy root from this link
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1005292&highlight=easyroot
Then I downloaded and opened the pdf instructions on the same page.
Then I followed the written directions to a T!
Worked like a charm. Steps 1, 2, and 3 hung up and had to be done multiple times but I finally got through it. Some other links if found with this same method were misleading as to doing the steps over again but he accounted for this in his pdf instructions and if you follow it to the letter you should be good.

All 2.3.5 OTAs via "cheesecake" - one has a battery fix

I nandroided to my cheesecake "platform" (234) while on ud1 (235/413) and the kernel caused wifi to break but the servers must not check the kernel. I never logged the platform on to google as I noticed gtalk sync errors that caused the 3g arrows to stop on other cheesecake roms. I did go from 234 (leak)sbf to ud1 with out problems btw. Then you could do 2 through 4 from stock recovery.
Don't ask why it is such a long seemingly backwards ride! The battery seems MUCH better no jumping. Batt fix must be in one or more of 2, 3 or 4.
We should be able to eliminate some of these?
These do NOT need to be renamed to be flashed.
A lot of the numbers in the zip names do not make orderly sense. I took them off my sd card by the dates I saved/flashed them. I got no errors as I flashed them all. Used voodoo root keeper after each.

Question...which of these updates is the one that is in the 2.3.5 thread in development section?
1st link ud0 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1341202 is 412.
Motcher41 ud 4 in the mp3/zip is the last one, w/ kernel ...0006... It is the one I ended with.
I posted this so youall can try mixing(or not) these as needed to get the battery fix which occurred when I went from ud 2 to ud 4. These ud # will make sense if you dl the fake mp3. Also the update works great after I did all 4 and how do we know we should stop with overminds post( ud 0) ? Yet we are calling it THE 235 ud.
It seems that with so many on the servers none of those are final. They are probably all just test versions, even though 413 seems very stable.

Hey just letting you know there is a fix by peppermint so you didn't need to go through all that and besides .412 has a higher kernal then the one you have. Ihave kernal ending in 0007 and .413 ends in 0008.
Why don't you flash the latest and use peppermints fix so you are on the the newest kernal. Well i like kernal 0007 its stable and music skipping is better handled i don't need poweramp with it. Which im very happy about. Last update by poweramp screwed it (poweramp) up.

Its not petes.
Its called super one click.
It has zergrush in it...
i wanna download the latest update only
i would download that mp3 file but the computer im on has tmp3 downloads blocked.
why not just make that a zip? what is the point of mp3?
I could not get any of my phone browsers to ul a zip to several hosts.
so what version should work best 412 or 413
Some say 12 (ud0)some 13 (ud1). I am on 406 (ud4) and it works great on lib 3.
I'm getting unsupported compression method when I try to unzip with either 7-zip or WinZip after renaming the "fake" mp3 file with a .zip extension.
Any ideas?

Well then, I don't know what is going on. It downloads, I rename it with a .zip extension and when I try to extract with WinZip, I get the following message:
Use Path: yes Overlay Files: no
Central and local directory mismatch for file "1 235/Blur_Version.1.3.380.MB870.Verizon.en.US.zip" (general purpose flags - local: 808 hex central: 8 hex).

If I try with 7-zip, this is what I get:

2 Unsupported compression method for "2 235\Blur_Version.1.3.413.MB870.Verizon.en.US.zip'.

4 Unsupported compression method for "1 235\Blur_Version.1.3.413.MB870.Verizon.en.US.zip'.
I did unzipped w/ windows7 stock and winrar NP. I did not try winzip or 7zip. You may have bad DL?
edit 7zip does bomb out.

Well then, I must have a bad download every time because I've downloaded 10 times, and all 10 times, the zip is bad.

UPDATED 2012.07.11: stopped using fastboot commands so that this tool can be used with ANY s-off device with any s-off hboot, no need to flash jb_hboot, though I think you're silly for not having it (jb_hboot)...
THANKS! About to check this out!
whoops. I just posted a splash screen guide also in the themes and apps section before I saw this.

cool, but do you mind editing your post so that it isn't quoting the OP... just makes the thread easier to read, especially on mobile devices =) thanks!
also, please let me know if you guys have any issues and I'll do my best to tweak the script... also, I will look at the script MildewMan posted and see if I can make this drag and drop compatible with the other file formats...
as it stands right now, this is only compatible with PNG and BMP formats...
Simple, and works! 5 stars
updated, but not sure it will work with four letter extension of JPEG... only JPG I think...
it wont work for me. i keep getting an error and then it closes out of the program

can you post a screen shot of what your folder looks like after running it?
do you have any kind of heuristic based system protection (firewall?) I know the first time I ran it from the folder Comodo's Defense+ monitoring asked me if it should allow adb.exe...

what type of file were you using to drag and drop, and were you drag and dropping from an outside folder? or had you copied the file to the folder first before drag and dropping?

I've never had any problems with adb/fastboot before, so none of that is the problem.
and it sends the file, the phones just not writing it. kind of like i'm not truly s-off, but bootloader says I am.

I don't know if it's just me, but that screenshot is way to small for me to read... strange... also, did you install the jbear hboot during the process?
I will have to look into it more when I get home, what version should be hboot read?

yeah, if your hboot doesn't read what opentang posted, try flashing the hboot from jb_hboot.zip that came in the s-off download, just rename jb_hboot.zip to ph85img.zip and put it on your sd card, then reboot into bootloader and "update"... if after doing this, it still doesn't work, please let me know and I will send you a "debug" version of the script to try...
EDIT: BEFORE DOING THIS (jb_hboot) BACKUP ANY INFO ON SDCARD (INT/EXT) as it will probably get wiped...
Yeah my hboot is still the stock 1.98.0008 or whatever. I'll will flash it once I get home, not sure why it didn't to begin with...

edit: So that fixed it, thanks for the help. Flashed the splash successfully.
I knew it wasn't a computer error, as I've flashed plenty of splashes on previous HTC devices.
