Question about installing ADW - XPERIA X10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I got my x8 today and updated it to 2.1
I really like the phone. There are just 2 problems:
- Bad camera with no flash and autofocus (alas, no Google Googles)
- Terrible SE UI
I installed ADW launcher to fix the second problem
I thought it would be more complicated, I don't even have my phone rooted. All I had to do is click "use this launcher as default" or something.
So my question is, is just installing ADW enough? Isn't SE UI hiding under ADW and eating resources?
Thanks

Yeah, once you root you can remove the bloatware that se have installed. There are threads here, and presumably on the x8 boards, that show you how to...

Live wallpaper problem!!!

Hi, I updated my x10 mini to 2.1 and decided to try live wallpapers... the thing is, I select them, they are running in the background but I still only get the default (or any other image selected) wallpaper. I mean...it's like it's running in the background but just not showing up...the weird thing is that when the screen is locked it does appear...but as soon as I unlock it, it goes back to the old wallpaper.... I'm using adw launcher...
Any ideas on how to fix this?
thks
I had that problem with adw too. Try launcherpro, it rules so much ;-)

thks, problem solved with launcherpro....I had it once but didn't like it that much but this time I'm really enjoying it and it fixed the wallpaper prblm. Is there anywhere where I can get more LauncherPro icons?
Thks for the help
exactly the same for me, does anyone has a solution for this problem?
l.e.: not enough attention , sorry. Thanks for the answer .
more later edit: i installed laucher pro and still not working
try out launcher pro and icons for launcher pro : http://launcherpro.droidicon.com/icons
If I have to take a wild guess, than you are probably running the ADW from your 1.6. There's 2 version of ADW, the one for 1.6 and the one for 2.1 and above. I guess the former don't support live wallpaper. Just download the 2.1 one.

[Q] new launcher with cyanogen mod7

does anyone have an idea how to replace the ADWLauncher with the new one thats really awesome the spd 3d one everytime i try to load it manually and set it as default the stock adwl overwrites it and pops back up few minutes later, i even removed the ADWLauncher with root uninstall and then i had no access to settings on the phone and later on wouldnt start so i had to reflash it, if anyone could help would be nice
hrm
all i need to know is how to replace the ADWLauncher on Cyanogen 7mod on the Defy, with something else without damaging the settings and phone...
Delete adw from system/app with root explorer or freeze it with titanium backup

The truth that this is secondary, for now. All you need now is to cyanogen for all functions at 100%. I do not ask more than that, if sis isis
All I did was just install Launcher Pro Plus and it replaced ADW. Everything works smoothly now.

launcherpro is way better than ADW..
if launcherpro have grouping feature just like LG launcher,
and have change-icon feature.
it would be the best ever.
Currently in use Launcher Pro
I'm using Launcher 7 with cm7 without any problems
greetings
I'm using launcher pro since my old galaxy lite with 1.6.
Just flashed to 2.3.3 and I was hoping to use the default google home.
Does anyone knows why it's not included in CM?

CM has used ADW Launcher for ages now. It was back in CM5 (IIRC) and the general consensus from the users was that they preferred ADW over stock, and thus ADW became default.
Personally, I like ADW.
Launcher Pro the free one is better than ADW, but ADW launcher EX is better than Launcher. Personally , I like ADW more than Launcher Pro.
I use launcher pro since 2.1 stock rom and with CM7, it is just perfect for me, smooth, very easy to custom
I'm using Launcher Pro since ever.
It's the best Launcher available and it really runs smooth

ADW launcher or go launcher.
I don't like se launcher at all. The bottom bar is far too fat and it has no customizability
Mostly agreed, but i like the widget overview
it would be adw but you cant add the arc photo widget. so i think it be the se 2.3.4

If that's the one that allows you to share apps on fb, I agree! But not because of that, I don't even use that feature

launcher pro because
1) I like the scrolling calendar and facebook widgets (paid version only)
2) I like the ability to hide certain apps from the app folder
3) its very stable for me
I'm interested to see what features other launches have over it though as development on launcher pro seems to have slowed somewhat.
My faves are stock 2.3.4 and LP.
However i prefer LP for all it's themed HD icons and tweaks available.
Is there a way to theme icons for stock 2.3.4 ?
+1
I really can't live without the scrolling calendar i LPP. I've tried another scrolling calendar that worked on stock SE 2.3.4. But it was to ugly...
SE Stock have two major features I miss...
- 4x4 icons (I want 5x4)
- Can't customize shortcuts

GO launcher has a scrollable calendar i think with smooth page transitions so i liked that when i used a calendar.
Also, it has many tweaks to get it how you want, maybe an alternative to LP as it now seems that its a pretty dominant launcher
Fave Home Launcher
I've been using SPB Shell 3D for almost a year now so I would say its almost my perfect choice but I love the one from stock 2.3.4 too.
Currently, I use Launcher 7.
nemus launcher for me !
stock se 2.3 home and Nemus Launcher, because of speed and simplicity
Defo Sony 2.3.4 stock launcher. Looks good, simple to use, and really fast!

Apex Launcher (ICS)

Here is another launcher for ICS. It is like stock launcher but have options like adw and launcher pro ie transparent app drawer, gestures, lock desktop etc.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1452663
I'm definitely gonna try this out. Not sure how much experience yyouve had with this but installing as system app shouldnt remove the default launcher your rom comes with? ie most ICS roms come with trebuchet launcher?
No, it installs as normal app and you don't need to move it to /system folder for widgets to show up in app drawer.
good find on this launcher, it feels alot like launcher pro but totally revamped for ics
just needs resizable widgets

I cant believe i missed that, thanks for the heads up, this is quite an awesome launcher i dont think i can go back to anything that doesnt use ics as a base any more
what do you prefer, this or NOVA?
personally on my galaxy nexus i prefer nova..but only because it's more mature.apex is a month newer, but with already a lot of features..nova,at this time, have more features, but i find apex more speedy and i hadn't got any issues or unstability also on gpu-renderized
works great in ICS passion v 12
Guys and girls, just a heads up - updating Apex Launcher is apparently resulting in Force Close dialog ad nauseam - DO NOT update Apex for now or else you'll be stuck. Thankfully I had Avast installed and using the Avast Application Manager I managed to access Apex's App Info page and uninstalled updates, now back to normal but won't update it for now. Recent Apex reviews on Play Store show that this is not ROM-related or an isolated event. You've been warned. (If you read this that is)...

Last night my phone auto updated the apex launcher and exactly what you said happened. I went into clockwork recovery and tried to restore and it gave an error and now the phone seems bricked. It won't boot up beyond the vibrant screen, and it won't let me get into recovery. What should I do?

Adw can be removed?

Question
At some point adw crashed on cm7 zmod because i long pressed an icon and the option to delete/edit came up as i accidently swiped it in trash ...
Clicking remove then seems to be a no no for adw itself
Now what would happen if i were to install a different launcher and delete adw?
Thnx in advance!

t would probbably work a little better..Try go launcher ex i used that home replacemnt for a very long time! its amazing!! hope this helps
And was that on a custom rom? Because i tried adw and launcher pro when my phone wasnt rooted etc so ot was just an apk ... ah home running over my SE home
But now when adw closed i didnt get the normal sony ericsson home screen but just a clean background.
I think adw is the only launcher in this rom ... hence my concern

YOu can use any home launcher on any ROM. But remember, that you must have any launcher on your rom If you closed adw and dont have any other launcher, thats why you had empty bacground.
Personally I used many launchers, but returned to default SE launcher, because it never crashed for me. You can try e.g. Zeam Launcher, its one of the fastest and doesnt have huge RAM consumption...
Firstly try to clean adw data using OS, it might help.
Go launcher works fine for me, however ADW launcher crashes sometimes.
Had been nice to find a way to remove ADW launcher tough... annoys me it is there

You can remove it simply If adw cant be uninstalled normally - use some root capable file manager (e.g. Total Commander for Android) and go into path /system/app/ Here you can find ADW launcher apk and simply delete it. Note you MUST have any other launcher already installed!
