WTF, how do you change system to read/write? - Vibrant Themes and Apps

I'm using Root Explorer.
Everything I select the systems directory and check the "write" boxes and press okay, nothing happens. I still can't transfer files in there. I'm trying to change the bootup and startup audio sounds in the system folder.
Also, I'm trying to flash the new version of the MTM keyboard. I launch CWM through Rom Manager, and try to flash the zip file, but it says installation aborted. But I go to "advanced" and select "Fix Permissions," and try again, it installs successfully. But when I reboot my phone, my keyboard stays the same as the old one and the new version is no where to be found.
Any help is appreciated!
EDIT: Oops, accidentally posted this in the Themes and Apps directory, my fault.

"mount r/w to mount r/o"...the button on the top.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App

I've tried that, it doesn't work.
When I press "Mount R/W," nothing happens.
I hear the toggle, but the "Mount R/W" stays as "Mount R/W"
weirdly enough, when I'm in the / folder, the "Mount R/W" toggles to "Mount R/O", but not when I'm in /system/

It's weird, actually any other directory other than /system/ can be mounted as r/w, just not /system/..

i had the same problem... try eugenes ADB push FIX on it...
this worked for me... also if you are running the SuperC voodoo recovery screen ( RED ) try turning debug on... that worked for me
"We had are First Sleepless Night with the New baby Boy.... Between Trying Figure out what was Wrong & taking turns with the Wife Holding Aries, I tried Pushing File's & forgot adb push didn't work...
Now this Script originally is what I made for the Behold 2, but the Basic still works For the SGV..
Just mod the script if your using the userinit.sh
Using this script you can place the userinit.sh any place you would Like...
I hope ever gets Good use out of this & Please Enjoy!

Installing*
Reboot to recovery, run the update.zip to run ClockworkMod Recovery, then installed the ZIP..
Quoted from eugene's post-- hope this helps..."

this happened to me with root explorer
first are you selecting the mount r/w option on top of the root explorer
if answer is yes then you have the mounting issue on 2.2 roms follow this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=846384
it fixed the problem for me, just be sure to select the correct zip i choose the wrong one first and my ext sd was shown as a cd, then reflashed the second one and it was solved. just flash with CMR
if this helped you please hit the thanks bottom

Try super manager its free and does the same thing. I had a problem with root explorer a while back. Eventually it worked fine again.

another easy way to do it is to just mount system as rw through adb.
mount -o rw,remount /dev/block/mtdblock3 /system
i have to do it every time i push new ringones/alerts to /system/media/audio

I was having same problem and fixed it by uninstalling and reinstalling root explorer. That did the trick for me.

Preventing StockROM from overwriting custom ROM....

I just rooted and installed Streakmod with the MultirecoveryFlasher.
Since the StockROM is overwriting my StreakMOD ROM everytime I reboot I'd like to rename the install-recovery.sh file.
So I installed root explorer, went to the file, and selected rename.
Yet I get "WARNING install-recovery.sh cannot be renamed becuase the file system is read-only."
I got root access according to "root checker" and "superuser".
Anyone know what I'm doing wrong?

In Root Explorer, above your list of folders on the left-hand side, you will see a small, grey button with Mount RO (Read Only) on it. Tap the button to change to Mount RW (Read/Write). This will allow you to edit files.

[Q] [ROM] [4.4.2] CyanogenMod 11.0 Cant write files to internal storage.

I installed [ROM] [4.4.2] CyanogenMod 11.0 from here
everything runs fine, but i cant write files to the internal storage.
For instance if i start the gallery app it tells me "No internal storage available",another app tells me it "cant write to the cache folder" because the sd is full, mounted,or write locked.Root explorer sees all the files but cant delete, move or copy/paste anything.
Apps that save/download files like podkicker or reddit act normal when trying to save the file but after the download starts the notification disapears and the file is simply not downloaded.Apps that stream content work fine, like youtube,or the stream feature of podkicker.
I have over 2gb free space so its not that, and if i plug into my pc i can move and delete files no problem.I like the rom and like i said everything else seems to work fine.
Thanks in advanced for any help.

Plug in the tablet with usb debugging enabled
run cmd and get adb going
type
adb shell
stop
rm -r data/*
mkdir data/local
mkdir data/media
exit
then push the rom file with [adb path]/adb push [rom path] /mnt/storage
when the push finished type adb reboot hold the volume down button and press enter
once rebooted into sde go to dev menu remove android kernel if necessary then choose flash kernel and initramfs
copy the files over
reboot
Everything seems to be working now i can read write files all day.
THANKS AGAIN!!
I'm having the same problem, with both CM11 and 10.2.0 on Verizon LG G2. Could it be a permissions problem?

Its weird because i can write to the root directory but not any folders in it.Root explorer and es file manager say that its read only but neither will let me switch to read/write.
I made a logcat from boot[at least i think i made it rite, never had to do one before]
But i cant post the link because i dont have 10 posts just add this rpqjxGhG to pastebin
This all also happens with external sdcards as well it turns out,i just tried to make a new file with the built in file manager on the external sd and it said it requires elevated permissions,
root explorer just says file creation failed.
I also get constant "unfortunately,Trebuchet has stopped" messages when doing any thing.
I have also tried terminal emulator for kicks.
I gave it su then tried
# mount -o rw,remount -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock0 /system]
didnt change a thing
then i tried
adb remount
this said error: device not found
Im pretty sure its not my tablet as i can can go back to stock/stock root and write files perfectly fine, ive also re-downloaded the rom twice just to make sure it wasnt bad,and ive probably flashed it around 20 time by now all with the same result.
I hope someone can figure something out.

When installing the CM11 firmware, did your format/reset your "android+storage" in "format device" recovery menu?
Storage files should be /mnt/sdcard/ (internal storage) and /mnt/media_rw/sdcard1/ (extern sdcard).
I'm able to create files in both directories as well on the file explorer.
If you want to "unlock" the root ( / ) partition you have to use this one inside the shell:
Code:
mount -o remount,rw /
but this don't have some effects to the mounted storage files.

I was updating by putting the firmware file on the the device then rebooting and flashing the zimage and initramfs,
The reason being if i reset the "android+storage" dosnt that mean the firmware is deleted?
adb dose not see the tablet when its in recovery,it does see it when its on[am i doing something wrong there?],so i cant push the files, and if i export the data partition in windows a pop up and says it needs to be formatted before it can be used.so how am suppose to get the file to the device if i format everything?

Make sure you are mounting /system as RW first. By default it is RO. If you have root explorer it's just easy as clicking the RW button but if not there is always terminal and a command you enter.

Terminal I mentioned to mount your system as RW. Why not edit your build.prop on computer and push it to your device in recovery mode.

Tried to do it with adb but it comes back to original one.
i was able to successfully change the build.prop file by using the file manager in twrp recovery.
i kept the modified file on my sd card, went into recovery, fired up the file manager, browsed to my sd card, selected the modded file, chose the copy option, then chose the /system folder as the destination. rebooted and the changed file stayed changed!
my device is rooted, bootloader unlocked, and s-on.
root explorer with r/w mounting didnt work for me...file would revert after reboot.
also tried "cp" command in terminal in recovery...didnt seem to copy successfully.
hope this helps!

Mount /system RW / RO Android 7.1.1 Lenovo Tab 4 10"

I have a problem with making a /system folder into read/write permission. I made root (TWRP 3.2.3, SuperSU-v2.82 - in TWRP is unchecked read-only) and the problem is tablet freezes EVERY time a make change from RO to RW.
I used Root explorer, ES file explorer, Root file manager, Super manager... Every time when I change it and press "ok" tablet freezes. Also I try via terminal "mount -o rw,remount /system", nothing, a download apk "Mount system RO RW ROOT" and apk said it did it, by when I check in file explorer it is still read only. (also I try via fastboot and comannds pull and push and it said that file is read only)
I really need to make changes in /system/build.prop and I'm out of options...
Anyone?

Hey have you found a fix for this???
I have the same problem.
device x00id os 7.1.1 (downgrade from aosp 9.0 > 8.1 > 7.1.1 because everytime i upgrade i had battery issue)
twrp 3.1.1.0.zip
supersu 2.79.zip (i've tried to use magisk.zip before)
1. flash twrp
2. flash su.zip
3. reboot system
4. open root explorer
5. copy folder /su to sdcard or internal storage. (my device doesnt freeze when copy file from root to sdcard, but my screen freeze when try to switch 'ro' to 'rw')
6. reboot to twrp again
7. mount system
8. advance > file manager
9. copy all item in /sdcard/su to /system/xbin and /system/bin (i only copy file su to /system/bin)
10. tap every files that you copy and click 'chmod 755'
11. reboot system
now you can try to switch your 'ro' / 'rw' button in your root explorer. i think screen freeze while access root happens because root method (twrp and magisk) doesnt instal root as system ('respecting encryption' or whatever)
but i hate to see my device forced to keep updating apps like fb, messenger, ig that i dont use it. a lot bloatware that forced to instal in customer device that drain battery.
i hope this help you or whoever that has same problems. good luck.
