Just a head's-up that the new 3.0 version of SlideIt Keyboard for Android is out and it rocks!
I've not a single complaint about this version and I've always wished I could have the best features of Swype, etc. and have the features of SlideIT. I really do think it is finally better than Swype in every way possible.
This is not a spam. I don't work for them. I'm just so happy with the thing, I wanted to share.

Yes, and it works great. I've been using it also.
They have a promotion directly from their site for $3.99 which they say is a limited-time. I think it was well worth it.

Thanks for the heads up. In your excitement though you appear to have spelled the app's name wrong several times. It's SlideIT. I mention this in case it makes any difference for people searchwise.

Ooops! Yes, I did. I requested a mod to edit the title for search purposes. Thanks.
Anyway, I've really been pleased with the performance of this software.
For me, the best things over Swype are:
delete on error erases the entire word, not just one letter (unless you want to)
multiple language access with one click literally.
shortcuts
text selection is better/easier
etc.

Watched the entire vid. Don't see a Mic key anywhere. It needs to be on the first default keyboard.
Otherwise, some nice features. I'd also prefer to have access to the cursor positioning arrow key more easily. Looks like at least 3 buttons to get there.
Thanks for the reference though.
I ve been using it since yesterday and i am definitely going to prefer it over swype. Lots of shortcuts and dictionary seems to be better than swype..well at least for me.

i prefer swype 10times over this.
plus swype morphs are sexy
After a quick trial run I'm liking it better than Swype on my rooted Vibrant. I'll try to remember to come back here and post some thoughts after a couple days.
One of my main problems with Swype was always their word choice window, SlideIT does it much better by putting the suggestions right above the top row of keys where they are with the stock keyboard, so I love that.
After a quick trial on my rooted Vibrant, I'm kinda liking it better than Swype for a few reasons.
1. The word suggestion is not a random pop-up that hides everything. It's right above the keyboard which makes much more sense (personal preference).
2. It appears to be more formal and accurate, especially when inputting new words and keeping the caps, like ASCE.
3. It's overall layout is more to my liking (personal preference).
4. You don't have to hunt for it, make sure the ROM you flash has it, or worry about losing it in the future.
Good find, OP. Thank you.
Still loving it so far. The one drawback I've noticed is the only numeric mode had the numbers across the top of the keyboard, there's no keypad mode that I could see.

It doesn't replace Swype. It adds another keyboard. If you wish, you can delete Swype. I have.
I was a long-time fan of Swype, and the previous iterations of SlideIT were pretty marginal in comparison, but V3 has come a long way and I use it daily and much prefer it. It's much more accurate than Swype, generally, in my experience, and it does a far better job in multi-language accuracy and much faster at switching languages. It's Spanish dictionary is better, for example. The shortcuts/abbreviations are an invaluable feature to me.

SwiftKey has a beta for tablets now, and it has a special landscape mode for thumb typing where the letters are on the right sides of the screen and the numbers in the middle.
It's in beta test right now, and if you join on their forum you can get access to it. It is beta so it has some quirks (like when you've just rotated it, the suggestions show too low like in my screenshot below), and I am not sure I like the default theme yet (it doesn't show secondary keys!) but it's worth a try. http://swiftkey.net/vip is where you can join to try it.
Here's what it looks like:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",

}
Install the APK as normal (uninstall the beta for Smartphone if you're already using it) and then follow the "from market" part of this guide to copy the APK into /system/app. Reboot, and it should show up in NookColor Tools, same procedure as any keyboard on the Nook Color using the B&N Rom. Any other ROM it should just work.
http://nookdevs.com/NookColor_Replace_the_Default_Keyboard
BTW just wanted to let people know and help the SwiftKey folks get more feedback, I get nothing from this.
will try when back at home!!
I've tried it and have found the keys to be too small for a 7" screen. I've really enjoyed using ThumbKeyboard and hope the SwiftKey keyboard improves to that level of usability as I love SK's prediction engine.
I'm running the stock 1.1 ROM, rooted, and am trying to get the Beta installed right now. I have the original running fine, but prefer the thumb-keyboard split layout.
I installed the Beta, but can't get it to show up in my Keyboard selection. Not sure it's going to run on Eclair.

It does work on Eclair. You moved the .apk from /data/apps to /system/apps? And set the permissions to match others there? And rebooted? Try those if you have not and check again.

They SEEM to be, but bang out a sentence and see what happens. It's damn good at deciphering nonsense. Same as the Smartphone version, I type like ass on the screen yet most often it figures out the right words.

I installed from /system/app and rebooted, but haven't changed the permissions.
I've been using SuperManager, which doesn't appear to let me edit permissions. I'll have to grab a different app later and try it, as they don't appear to match.
Thanks.
SwiftKey Tab beta seems cool
I've used it to send emails. Nothing special about it that I've seen so far. But it is nice to see a "tablet" getting some love.
edit: I've been using it since Monday. I don't like the interface ('neon') but the split (similar to Thumb Keyboard) is very nice. the keys are smallis buy not unusable. Overall, I like it and recommend giving it a try. Once new skins are made it'll be great.
Got IT
Installed this morning. Not too bad. Keys are too small. Don't think its going to replace my swype. I do love their predictive typing but not enought to stop me swyping.

Odd, did you change the prediction settings? I type terribly without correction, but it does a really good job fixing it for me. You might try some of the other options, there's "rapidfire typing" which is useful for some folks.

waiting, but thumb keyboard is growing in my heart.. the only cons about thumb kb is the lack of multi language prediction, i have to disable it..

There are multiple layouts in Swiftkey, just the list is impossible to see on the Nook Color with the white-on-white problem. Apps expect some dialogs to be dark, where on the B&N ROM they're white.
Yep, there's AZERTY there. The problem is picking it I think. In Settings->Layout, try picking the 5th option... QWERTY is first, AZERTY is 5th in the list on my phone. Hopefully the tablet beta is the same. Otherwise, you could experiment I guess.
That's right for swiftkey beta for Phone, the swiftkey beta for tablet only have one option.
I'm running nookie froyo, no white-on-white problem here :/

1+ on that, since I have big hands. The stock keyboard with CM7 or the standard SwiftKey keyboard both beat the heck out of this "tablet" keyboard implementation. And I guess some find neon cool, but its hard on my eyes. Yes, I'm glad SwiftKey is trying, but .... I'll wait until functional wins out over 'Look at this cool keyboard, dude!" approach.
Note: Voice input doesnt work but atleast we have autocorrect finally.

I can't access keyboard debug menu on my tablet so I figured I would try ICS keyboard and well...that didnt go well so I thought...why not the gingerbread keyboard? And poof! It works perfectly minus voiceinput*because I cant get into debug menu* so, time for instructions?
First, you need to put the APK on your SDcard:
Download link: here
Next you need to push to your SDcard either through adb or just using USB mass storage.
Afterwards copy to system/app/ using a file manager *ES file manager or Root explorer is recommended. Root Explorer for those of you who use paid apps or ES for those of you who want a free alternative. I used Root explorer.
Here is the VERY important part, mod the permissions to the following:
Code:
Read, Write
Read
Read
Finally, just reboot and you will have it.
IMPORTANT NOTICE:
Code:
You can redownload the stock APK from [URL="http://dl.dropbox.com/u/15069134/LatinIMEbackup.apk"]here[/URL]
and follow the rest of the guide starting after you download. It's the same universally. Also note that not all keyboard apps work well in system which is why I did it with the stock gingerbread app. Ice cream sandwich keyboards aren't too /system friendly.
it works well. I hope we can get the ICS keyboard up and running. Their is just a small visual issue with background behind the keys being white not black like in your screen shots.
I'd be happy if I could get Swiftkey Tablet up and running, but I'll give this a shot. I found the menu where you can change the colors of the default keyboard, but some other ones have added functionality that I'd like to have.

How are you even getting the microphone to show on the keyboard? I can't find the setting for it anywhere and mine doesn't show in either portrait or landscape?
Mine only shows the comma key in that location.
You need to hold down the comma key on the gingerbread keyboard and go into settings.

I like swiftkeyx, plus I got it for 10 cents during the 100 app sale. I'ts fast and I love how the predictions work. I personally don't like swipe/swype style keyboards, hence my recommendation.
Free = swype and works extremely well one handed.

seriously, the learning prediction is out of this world. 75% of all my texts are done via prediction now and I believe that number is growing.
I dont like Swype. Not crazy about tracing my fingers over the letters. Seems more of a hassle and takez a while to get zippy on it. The Hackers kb looks interesting enough because it has the arrow keys. But, is it fast and accurate? Think it would be small in portrait mode to squish all them extra keys in.
Swiftkey x.. does it have trial or demo?

Smart Keyboard Pro is the one I always seem to be coming back to.
I don't like the "swype type" keyboards at all. SwiftkeyX has absolutely AWESOME word prediction, but you can't resize the KB the way to can using Smart Keyboard Pro.
I like to text in portrait mode using the compact qwerty setup & SKP with its infinitely resizeable button height works super.

yea, I just noticed that but it doesn't seem to make a whole lot of difference what size I choose.
In the Smart KB Pro settings, it gives you a slider for key height in both portrait & landscape that basically allows you to make the keys any height you want.
I don't change the landscape setting, but I like to make the portrait keys a LOT bigger & this KB is the only one I've tried that allows you to do this.

I uninstalled that GO keyboard app. I had more mistakes on that thing than I did with stock Gingerbread kb. That and I hate how it hid symbol keys in second page. And it constantly wanted to update other parts if the app. Actually, I uninstalled it because I think it blew up my IMO chat app. App worked flawlessly for 2 weeks straight.. then a day after I get GO kb.. im chatting and suddenly imo goes into a FC loop. I kill it.. it still show in the notifications but not TM.. look at the notifications, imo FC again...and again. I reboot same thing. idk what happen but i had to remove both imo and GO to get rid of all the FC loops...
Now trying out swiftkey x
I don't think I could live without Swype now. I love it.
SwiftKey hands down the best keyboard. It's the first thing I put on any phone I get.
KORM via the beast known as the Rezound.
SwiftKey x rules. Been using it for a while. Best predictions by far. Also automatically spaces between words. It's also nice to pick up your predicted word and if you miss it, it brings it to one side so you can still choose from it.

Probably not, as I haven't heard a mention of it anywhere.
But there shouldn't be any privacy issues if you can find a keyboard on the play store that doesn't require internet connection.

Actually, I'd probably guess that it will have it, as it comes standard on other Galaxy phones. Keep in mind that I don't have a GS3, but I would think it odd if they downgraded their features over successive releases..
You know that Swype is free and downloadable on their website, right?
Yes I know swype is free, but as above would rather have a stock app, then no privacy issues.
Play store keyboard apps I'm a little wary of.
Does the S2 have a swype/trace keyboard inbuilt stock app?
The international S2 has it stock, dont know about carrier versions. It is an interesting question and it would seem to be a no brainer since Samsung has commercial licensing agreetment(s) with Swype. It could almost swear somewhere or other I saw a video with the swype keyboard up? lol Getting old I guess.
I'm surprised people still use swype. It was fun for a few minutes, but typing is where it's at. Especially SwiftKey.

swiftkey depresses me.. I realised that I was more predictable than I had previously thought.
swype is still my favourite though.. I actually have fun with it and I can type things up faster than with swiftkey or other keyboards (or at least it feels this way)
Once you get good at it, swype can be really fast
I have swiftkey pro and use it when I want to do more technical typing such as a message that uses a lot of characters, numbers, etc. For these I find it goes quicker. For most typical stuff though like the average text message I can do it much more swiftly with swype. As said, swype takes a little time to get used to but once you do it becomes very quick and easy. I am not surprised that the phone typing record is held by a swype user.
I come to android from iOS and so to have an option was great! Didn't know it was built into my XE (known as trace) until someone showed me, I now is out all the time.

Swype is much faster than any typing. And according to reviews GS3 has it.

Do you have any issues while typing on the keyboard? Running CM/AOSP ROMs it seems that sometimes it wants to not register a specific key no matter what until u restart it, along with other issues. Maybe you have experienced this with other android Custom ROMs. My main question is does that keyboard have any bugs like this? If not I'll be blissfully happy!

To be honest I prefer the aosp keyboard over this because I feel it has better prediction. I think Samsung tried to make it smarter but ended up screwing it. Specially for non standard English words. But may be its just me. Others might find it working well for them.
But I haven't had any issues in registering any letters. The only problem I had was while typing in sygic navigation app where it was picking a different letter from what I was typing. But it might be an app specific issue.
Apart from that the Samsung keyboard is more or less the same as aosp.

Thank you for the intelligence in your response
Keep it Classy, Cali.
Thumb Keyboard 4 is where its at.
its not talked about as much, but let me just put it this way
Swift Key is based around the idea that youll make tons of mistakes and itll correct them for you
Thumb Keyboard 4 is based around the idea that youll have so much room typing that you wont make any errors, and the ones you do itll correct them for you.
i find thumb keyboard 4 to be the best. swift key forces me to pick auto corrections, i dont like that.. try making o.o on swift key, go ahead try it lol..
pics i think are from Thumb Keyboard 3, the interface is much prettier now in thumb keyboard 4, but the keyboard layout is the same. there are 14 layouts to choose from, and you can change keys to be custom characters/combos

No swype is not bundled with it. The only options I get are Samsung keyboard which is basically a version of the aosp keyboard and the Google voice recognition typing.

Swype is much faster than any typing. And according to reviews GS3 has it.

mmm so which is it, or does it depend on the locality?
I'm in UK so want to know the UK version.
Yes, bought my phone in Dubai and it has it listed under keyboard options as "keyboard skype".

I truly cannot stand the stock Sammy keyboard I usually use Google keyboard mostly because the auto correction is better. The only problem is the Google keyboard doesn't have the clipboard capability like the Sammy keyboard does. Is there another keyboard with this clipboard setting and aggressive auto correction?

Swift key has good auto correction. I don't think it has the clipboard function though.
Swype has clipboard function. It's my favorite keyboard. I found that Swiftkey would sometimes lag when swyping which would lead to errors. They have some themes you can use and adjust the height of the keyboard to suit your fingers and size of phone, which is good with the Note 3 since too high can be hard to manage and a big screen.

When I said clipboard I also ment clipboard history also. The stock Samsung clipboard has literally everything you have ever copied into the clipboard and you pick which one you need. In Swype all I'm finding is a copy and paste option no history, or am I missing something? The first attachment is the Stock Samsung keyboard with the clipboard history and the 2nd is Swype. Thanks for the reply also.

Yes, I see what you mean. I thought about that right after I posted my reply. You are correct I think that it doesn't have a history. I will take a look at other keyboard and see if I can find one that does. You're right that it would be useful.

Yeah it kinda reminds me of a cable remote how you can hit the last button if you don't want what you currently have selected. Could you image a remote control without a last button? Pure hell. Why can't these damn remotes have a 3 or 4 last channels also 2 to switch from isn't enough. Ok rant done.

I'm curious what the practical benefits of maintaining a long history of your clipboard would be? I'm always on the lookout for the smallest positive adjustments to my daily usage of my mobile device.
Work environment. The ability to maintain a long list does not require maintaining a long list. In addition, this application syncs with multiple devices.

My naivete on display, apologies. That makes sense of course. Thanks!
I found an app app called Clipper that maintains a clipboard regardless of the keyboard you are using. They say that you can have "more than 20" clipboard items, but I'm not sure if that would be enough for your purposes. Maybe give it a try?
It's in the market: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.rojekti.clipper
Hi this threat is quite old but I use touchpal nice
Keyboard with clipboards.
Twenty items limit
Hello.
I just wanted to say that I truly hate the limit of the clipboard.
It is as ridiculous as the Burst shot limit that has been painful to many Samsung users. (only twenty items?????)
I have lost four valuable items in the clipboard, because it forces me to save a screenshot in the clipboard. This is another thing that I dislike about TouchWiz. My thread: http://forums.xda-developers.com/general/help/disable-screenshot-to-clipboard-t3318563
hello.
i just found the right app for this situation. its called native clipboard, you can search it on google play. just double tap to activate the clipboard, it helps me alot.
