I installed Nero 3 a couple days ago, and noticed I have lags now that I didn't with the stock JI6 rom that I had since phone was new.
Are there any lagfixes installed automatically with the Nero 3 rom? I hear voodoo might be, but not sure. I also see the rom includes One Click Lag Fix under applications, but I don't know if its installed. I see in many forums that people say don't install it as it might brick your phone. I almost had a brick already so I am leary.
Just want to have real smooth movement and seems a little laggy now with Nero3.
I have a score of 1010 in Quadrant, I am guessing as that is above stock Vibrant then something must be enabled... Any advice?

Go into recovery, and enable voodoo.
A normal fast vibrant with voodoo gets around 1500 of quadrant

Is there any danger or drawback in enabling Voodoo? Does battery life get hurt much? Is it as easy to disable Voodoo as enable it?

Voodoo MUST be disabled if your going to flash another rom.
No effect on battery.
Under the enable, theres a disable, just click that and done.
I'll tell u now, when u enable it, it will take 5 minutes our
Or more to boot same with disabling, its changing how your whole system works, so.. It will take some time to boot after enable and disable.

After installing Vibrant6 and lag fix, my Quadrant score was 1992. I flashed back to stock using the stock firmware sticked in AD thinking I was going to try Eugene's Froyo. I decided against it and reflashed Vibrant6 and reinstalled the lag fix. Now my Quadrant score is only in the 800's.
Anyone know what would cause this or how to fix it? I made sure to remove the lag fix before I flashed back to stock and I even had Odin repartition when I flashed back to stock.

the "lag fix" didnt take... do you notice a difference? After 2 weeks of use I cant tell the difference without...
Holding 3 diff Vibrants one stock, the others with different "lag fixes", think youd be able to tell which is which? I very seriously highly doubt it.. So seriously I had to use three adjectives..

I noticed a difference after soft bricking mine. When I download and install something from the market its faster without the lag fix. With the lag fix the phone just stops working or a second and then continues after it finishes installing. Without the lag fix there is no pause, it just keeps going. Moving around on the home screen there seems to be noticeable lag when you drag to different windows without the lagfix. With the lagfix it is non-existent.
Oh and I softbricked the phone by trying to use the lagfix removal from MCR scripts...

I just noticed the market thing last night. If you wait 1/2 second between button presses, its all good. I didn't have to wait at all pre-lag fix.

Total NOOB here, but I get confused on all the posts.
At one point I ran the Eugene's Vibrant4 rom with one RyanZA's one click lag fix on the one click root.
I ended up going back to stock and waiting for the JI6 OTA. I got impatient and downloaded the JI6 OTA zip from ttp://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=802240
Now I'm just running that on an unrooted Vibrant. I was wondering what is the best Kernel / Rom / LagFix to go with after this update? Are there any yet for the version listed in the link as it is not the leaked version of JI6? (having a hard time deciphering Roms and kernels for leak vs OTA JI6)

yes you might be asking too much. I am currently running Simbionix 1.7 with jac's kernel with voodoo on the J12 modem O/C to 1.2. You will instantly see the speed of your phone increase.
I flashed the J12 modem because its supposed to give you increased battery life. After following the instruction on reconditioning the battery, It still wasn't that great even though others are reporting great battery life. I am going for broke and flashing Bionix 1.7 w/Jacs OC/UV/VOODOO kernel w/ the J16 modem tonight.
First step is rooting your phone with the one click root program and try them all out if you like. Its hard to mess up this phone as you can always flash back to stock with Odin. Even there is a few bugs with Sim1.7 its still a great rom and will be using it this till Froyo is released.

Ok so I had installed the one click root and Rom Manager, used them to load the Bionix 1.7 w/Jacs OC/UV/VOODOO kernel w/ the J16 modem even tho I see that voodoo is disabled due to my nand chip...and I haven't bought the SetCPU app yet.
Seems like my battery life went up huge even though I haven't yet reconditioned the battery. It was too late to finish after I loaded the rom, had to sleep for work. I figured I would recondition tonight but as it's going I may not need to.
This rom DOES help battery life and it sped up my phone so I am truly happy with it.

Side note, I haven't noticed any freezes or reboots yet due to not having setCPU installed. But I also haven't had time to get all the apps I had previously back on my phone either. :/

You shouldn't be getting freezes or reboots at all. The only way I could see that happening is if you installed SetCPU and set the minimum clock speed below 200MHz. Right now without SetCPU installed you are running on the stock speeds of 200min / 1000max which should be fine.

What the heck isnt voodoo supposed to give you an extremely good score? Im only getting between 900 and 1000. I got better scores with super IO.
Are you sure that voodoo is enabled? There is an app in the market you can download for free that will tell you for sure.

I dont know why everyone is so obessesed with quardrant scores. They are not accurate with our hummingbird processors. Also Voodoo doesn't give u the best quadrant scores. I usually get about 1500. I would get over 2000 with OCLF. But voodoo is much better user experience. My suggestion is not to worry so much about scores and focus on how ur phone operates. This is the true test.

Anyway, it would seem to me that Voodoo is not active. However, do as post #2 says and report back. It'd also be helpful to know what kernel / ROM you are running.

My exact thoughts. I always LOL at people trying to focus on the numbers instead of the overall experience.
I'll bet voodoo isn't active. Check your voodoo folder and see if it's disabled.
I went from 900s to 1400s in Quadrant with it.

Yeah its enabled, but im using stock froyo.... And another thing, when it gets to the I/O part of the test it stick on1/4 (database writes or something) for about 2 minutes before moving on.
Try clearing Quadrant's cache and see if that helps.

It gives a good overlook though.
With voodoo people need atleast, 1400.
It's definitely not enabled or it's not enabled on all partitions. Check the voodoo log folder on your internal SD card and let us know the results of the conversion. Also reboot into recovery and check if it says voodoo is enabled there (if you're using one of supercurio's new kernels).
the latest incarnations of voodoo don't show you a quadrant number like they did when voodoo only did /data.
So yes, ~1100 is normal for the latest voodoo releases.

I have the new one and mine shows up as about 1500
Switched to oclf 2.2. Getting 1800+
Just got off the phone with Cleo and she said you don't have voodoo enabled. It should never hang on the first phase of I/O test, only for a bit on 3/4. Easy way to know is download the app terminal emulator and simply type mount. All partitions should show up as ext4. Voodoo is way safer than oclf btw, but as long as you are happy then that's all that matters.
I flashed Nero v3 recently; Voodoo is disabled by default.
So far I see no need for increase in speed (the speed boosts I need relate to data =)) but I'm just curious to see if there is a noticeable improvement with it enabled.
Opinions? or dare I say...Facts?
Voodoo just makes everything smoother. Every once your phone might lag in market l but voodoo fixes that. It is just a more smoother experience.

If you are content with the very slight delay, no worries, but an ext4 file system really is a much better user experience.
come back in a week or two. RFS will be laggy. Voodoo/ext4 will still be zippy.
I am a very impatient person. With voodoo disabled I noticed I had to wait for everything to work. Switching screens took a solid sec or two. The lag when opening up an app or mms drove me nuts. With voodoo enabled there is no wait time. Everything works instantly.
So what's the catch? Is there a downside (such as stability issues) in using voodoo?

The only catch is that the battery life drains faster with it enabled. Not enough for me to care though.
Is there a big difference in battery life? Reading the Nero threads, doesn't seem to be a big deal.

Voodoo is the stock kernel, and it is not OC'd or anything. I have not personally noticed a difference in battery.... and if there was one, the gain having your file system converted to EXT4 is worth it.
supercuriou is a genius... just roll with it.
Downside... remember to disable it before flashing something.

I was able to get 36 hours out with Voodoo disabled. With it enabled and a LWP, I only got 28 hours, not sure if it's Voodoo or the LWP but can't really complain about 28 hours. At the same time though, don't notice much of a difference in speed as Nero v3 was already speedy.
OMG, I think I bricked my phone...
I have just intalled Voodoo-lagfix-3.0-SGH-T959-update.zip with Clockwork Recovery and after rebooting my phone is stuck at Kernel Panic/Upload Mode message. That happens after hearing some crazy robot voice talking something about ext4.
I was running a stable Bionic 1.3.1 before having this crazy idea.
I cant get my phone to recovery mode by pressin vol up, vol down a power buttons.
I have searched all the day for something in the xda forums and google but im not able to find any answer.
Is there any way to recover my phone? I dont care for any data.
Please help i'm desperate
Does it hurt to be that stupid? do a search for Odin and learn to use it. You'll have your phone back to normal in no time at all.

I have all the roms, ipt, adb file im my PC for Galaxy 959 (Vibrant) but I am little confused. I am a nobbie and I all know is to follow tutorials.

It is working like a charm now! I though I had bricked my phone for a while but the problem was how to start the phone in download mode.
Sdobron, I downloaded the last lagfix available in voodoo website for Vibrant but didnt realize this was too old.

The best roms out now are trigger and bionix for 2.2. I'd recommend trying those with bali kernel (the UV version, if your phone can handle it).
Also, make sure you're converted back to ext4 partitions from voodoo.

As for good roms. I like to try them all but seem to keep coming back to Bi-Winning V2 combined with the Bali kernel. It has given me the best battery life of any rom I've used and it's just as fast as any other. Good luck.

How do I know if my partitions are converted back from voodoo?
I got Trigger 3.2 final with [email protected] #3 kernel according to my phone settings. I will look for this bali kernel and if my phone can handle it.

Maybe start out with the 1.8.5 uncapped or UV. The uncapped one removes the FPS cap, but some phones get flickery screens when uncapped. If you don't, you're set. If you get flickery screen, switch to the capped or the UV. The UV one has lower CPU voltages and although the battery on the capped and uncapped are still great, it should give a bit better battery life.

I ve finished installing Biwinning v2 and Bali 1.8.5 uncapped because of your comments
Everything went fine and there is no flicks in the screen at the moment.
The only thing I dislike about this rom is that keyboard feedback was a lot faster before in Triger rom, almost instantaneous. Any mod for that?

Did some tweaks in swype settings: No auto spacing, no box suggesting words, fast speed and no precision.
It`s not as fast as Triger default keyboard but 60-70% better.
Hope anyone knows something else.
