[Q] A101 continuosly wifi drop - Gen8, Gen9, Gen10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

After 2 days of work, I have no more ideas...My new A101 doesnt work with 3 (!) different wireless adsl router. I already try the WAP/WAP2/WEP/no encryption with the same results.
I'm using last Froyo 2.2 firmware...
It seems that A101 works fine only with my Desire's HotSpot !
Any idea ?

I've got the same problem, I've got kind of a solution. I you play continuously a radio station with Tune In radio then you will not lose your connectoin.

You could try "disable powersave" when you are connecting to the network.
Then just make sure you turn your wireless on / off when you aren't using it.

Hi there!
I had a bug that when I clicked on the found WLAN Network to connect and disabled the powersave there, if I checked the connection afterwards, it always said, that the powersave isn't disabled.
What I did is to add my WLAN Network manually and not by clicking on it and disabled the powersave there. That worked for me, you could give it a try!
Cheers

1. download and install spare parts
2. open and scroll down to wifi sleep policy
3. check never
4 reboot

I also had problems with dropped wifi when the archos went in sleep mode. Disable powersave did not work. Untill I found softlocker in the market and installed that. It works very good and i have no wifi drops anymore. I talked to the developer and he's very responsive to requests and bugfixes he put up a donate version so if you like the app please donate.
PS: I'm not the developer.

Does not work I tried that only softlocker seems to work correctly.

Thanks for the tips. It seems really absurd but the solution was to set in NEVER the idle of wifi settings...that's the same tip to use the Tune...but in silence mode
Thanks.
ps: I set the encryption back to WPA and all works fine

Barnacle Wifi Tethering on Mini

Hi everybody. Now that I have rooted my mini I could install Barnacle wifi tethering for connecting to my laptop. But after long trials I am still not able to connect my phone with my laptop.
Can anybody with prior experience help me in this regard
For wired tethering I use Easytether which works great.
I havent tryed yet, but try setting the WLAN interface to "tiwlan0" and/or try skipping wpa_supplicant

Wonderful. It is connected with your suggestions. Many thanks.
Partha
Thanks, I also got this to work. What I wonder now is if it is possible to have security for this tether. When we choose skip wpa_supplicant then the security is disabled and it is an open network. When traveling and visiting public places I would be somewhat uncomfortable to have this open network. Barnacle does provide the WEP security option, but in order for this app to work with the x10 mini we need to choose skip wpa_supplicant which opens up the network to all. Any ideas?
I had to change WAN-setting & disable security too to even find the WiFi network.
However, when I connect it doesn't work. I see the in Barnacle "traffic"-pane that my computer sends requests when I try to load a webpage in the browser. But the down-traffic won't increase. Anyone know the next step in troubleshooting?
i left all the settings stock except turned on skip wpa supplicant. mine works great i ran ping- t all night and only lost 15 packs 0% loss, which is less loss than my friends cable internet.
when i first got it working i was using a mix of settings and i had to hit associate every 5 min or my laptop would stop having access to the internet but still remain connected to the network. so i just reinstalled it and it works great now.
This feature is one of the main reason why i bought an android device.
Edit:
after a few more days of pissing about with barnacle i realized that it cuts out when ever the phone is not being charged and falls a sleep and as long as i keep the phone awake its fine. the solution i came to was to open music player and play a song with the volume off and that keeps the phone from going into sleep mode. i know there's supposed to be a setting to stop wifi from turning off while in sleep but i have a branded rom and it doesn't appear i have the option. hope this helps someone.
There are two versions out there, 0.4.2 and 0.5.0. What version do you guys run?
anyone share the settings for barnacle wifi tethering. Its not working in my rooted x10 mini.

I have the exact same problem and have tried everything listed here Anyone find a solution??
It works for me now using Barnacle Wifi Tether 0.6.7 and a SE X10 mini 2.1. Had the same problem before. Now my settings are:
Wireless Encryption: Wep Enabled (with hex password code)
Channel: 6
"Skip wpa_supplicant" - unchecked
Wan: tiwlan0
Hi all.
BarnacleWifi worked fine for two weeks but until I setup new android vertion 2.1.1.A.0.6 he doesn't.
Anyone try it with this one ?
Regards,
Devilo.
Edit: I can see the network on windows7 but when I try to connect, it freeze on "Identification" and I never have ip adress
DHCP doesn't work.
Same here :-(.
It finaly works on my mini with 2.1.1.A.0.6 firmware.
On MiniCM-1.0.0-Alpha2, Froyo Cyanogen 6.1 port for the mini "Rom"
Dont forget skip WPA supplicant.
Regards
Devilo.
On X10 mini Barnacle works without skip wpa suplicant! After a few trys and som Observation I found the Problem. Every baconinginterval the adhoc Network have a other MAC. I try to set a fix BSSID in Barnacle but now i can't find the Network so i undo it.
After some Trys i found a workaround:
1. Start Barnacle
2. Press Associate
3. Try to connect with your Computer
4. After entering password, your Computer try to connect, press 1 time again Associate
My Settings are:
WEP Encyrpting: Enabled
Skip wpa_supplicant: Disabled
Auto Associate: Disabled
WAN: rmnet0
still not conneting
It's still not working on my x10mp 2.1.1.A.0.6 firmware. My PC (Debian or Win7 have the same problem) still doesn't connect.
Barnacle on phone is showing no errors. PC is finding the wireless network but can't connect. Looks like it does not get an answer from phone (no IP address assigned).
I surely have tried all the advices from this forum and any google search gave me.
Same problem here guys - this was the reason for rooting my x10 mini

And I haven't found any solutions yet ... thankful for any suggestions ...

[Q] WiFi falls out all the time

I own the X10 Mini Pro and the WiFi hardly stays on for more than 10 minutes at a time. It doesn't loose connection, it doesn't get disabled, but it just turns it self off in a way. To connect to the internet again i have to disconnect and connect to the access point. Has anyone else experienced this?
It's not a big deal, but still. Does anyone know how to fix it? I've tried to use both WiFinder and WiFi Buddy without success.
I have the same problems. It's quite annoying to restart the wifi so often. I hope that soon SE will release Eclair for it and repair this and other problems like this one. Or I will try to manage the bugfix myselft and if it won't be possible I'll give back my phone to reseller because this is not normal. I had "old" HTC Magic before and it did not have these problems.
It might be a stupid suggestion but have you guys adjusted the wifi sleep policy?
Go check in settings > wireless controls > wi-fi settings > bottom left hardware key > advanced > Wi-Fi sleep policy > select never
Does this fix the problem because I have enabled this and don't have a problem.

I cannot use this because I'm not an administrator of the wifi router. Maybe I'll try the Wifi Manager, but not now. I hope that new release will be soon and have less bugs.
Same problem here. I have set the sleep policy to never. My router is only using AES, no TKIP.

Try WiFi Power Manager from the market, solved it for me.
Today I recieve an update OTA to build number 1.2.A.1.174 and it seems that the problem with my Wi-Fi is solved ... at least for now. It solved a few another problems which I discover (f.e. changing radio station with handsfree, UI improvements, ...) but non all of them. I hope that the Eclair update will be soon.

[Q] HD2 WiFi Router doesn't work anymore

Hello xda ppl,
I'm going crazy with an issue on my HTC HD2. The WiFi Router doesn't work anymore.
Ok, first of all, if I hard reset the phone, the WiFi Router works again, so the problem is on actual settings. I don't use this features very often, so, really, I don't know which is the issue root cause. Probably some applications installed in the last months... However uninstall all applications doesn't help me...
I perform some test hard resetting and then restore only some sections (using SPB Backup). If I restore Windows Directory OR the Windows Registry WiFi Router doesn't work!
Since I don't wanna reset my device since I have to install a lot of applications, configure it, configure the device.... Very long time to do that....
Does someone advise me if there's a way to restore the original HTC WiFi router functionality without reset my device?
Or, maybe how can I reset the actual configuration modifying something on the registry/Windows directory?
Thanks!
In case You have programmed SPB backup for automatic backup try to restore the oldest backup You have and start from there.
Whenever I install a new app I do a backup and then check all essential functions including WiFi-router, if probs occur I do an immediate restore
Happened last week when I installed the 3G-enabler/disabler from XDA: BT and WiFi router didin´t work any more, so I did just a restore and everything was fine again
Thanks for reply troed, backup the device first to try a new application is also my goal...
Btw, my oldest backup is from 10 May 2010 and the WiFi router issue is still there... As already said I use the Router functionality only during Holidays (like now ) or just in rare cases. So the problem is very old... But I cannot figure which is the application that cause the issue!!!!
Now I'm surfng the internet using USB sharing features, but is very slow compared to WiFi connection!!!
So, I'm scratching my head to restore the router functionality.... Maybe there's a way to delete all the file/registry entries and then let the device restore it like during the first initialization...
However, just now I tried the Tom Condon Wifi Internet Sharing package... No way!
Hey, I had this problem with the wireless router a few days ago too... You might want to take a look here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=756830&highlight=wireless+router+problem

BTW: I remember now I had a prob with WiFi-router once I updated Intel-radio-drivers on my VAIO - notenbook, Router didn´t work at once. I took the old drivers and suddenly it was oaky again, but it was on the side of the NOTEBOOK ! (has sumthin to do with the protocols TCP/IP etc.)
Did You check this also`?

As already told, if I hard reset the device I can use the WiFi router without problem on the same notebook. So, I believe the problem is on HD2...
BTW. I tried WM WiFi Router application. I remember now I had an old license working fine also with ver 2.0.
Now the WiFi router works again. For sure, not the original one, but this is much better. I'll only take care about battery drain. In the previous version the application drained the battery in a while.
I would like to know WHY the original router doesn't work, but since I have "limited" access to the network, for now I'll use the "WM WiFi Router" temporary solution.
Any other feedback are welcome!
Hmmm... I think there are a few settings to adjust for the router to work...
If the post I posted doesn't work, then you might have to check if your settings under
Settings ---> All Settings ---> Connections ---> Connections ---> Advanced ---> Select Networks
For me, both are under the Internet settings... Example "Vodafone Internet"...
Even for "Programs that automatically connect to a private network should connect using:" I have set under the internet settings instead of My work network...
When you turn on the wireless router, you are also given an option to choose which kind of network/connection you would like to use... Choose that one that gives you your internet connection... Example "Vodafone Internet"...
And if all else fails, you may try my method posted in the past few posts... If that STILL can't help you, I'm sorry but I've tried my best! =) Hope you can settle it soon!
Also, make sure that your Broadcom Network adapters connect to "The Internet" and not work
No way also playing with Network Settings. I had tried a lot of combination without success... Seems an "unknown" application/s have change something on Windows directory AND on Windows Registry that prevent WiFi Router to work. I have so many custom settings, with application like Co0kie's Home Tab, CSMI, BsB Tweaks, Pocket Informant, Klaxon, Chainfire-HD2-3D-Driver, incall lock, NET CF 3.7.... and so on... So, probably one of these apps have changed something in a wrong way.
And again, since hard resetting the device solve the issue, with very big patience, after a reset, I'll start again to customize my device trying the router each time I install a new application or apply a new settings!
Just last question: Does someone know which is the registry settings for so called "Fast Call" (the second standard tab) where I put the contact photos?? Or in general does someone know which is the registry settings for manila settings (like the tabs settings)?
Regarding WMWiFiRouter mentioned in my previous post is a good application, but I can confirm it will drain the battery and probably also burn it, since its temperature has reach an high value. I can hardly hold the phone in my hand!
OH MY GOD!
After 3 days of resetting, restoring, change Windows Registry, remove some files from Windows directory and in general going crazy to find the issue route cause.... It's incredible, but I finally hit the target!
I changed some settings using "BsB Tweaks" (great app moreover)... I'm pretty sure I changed the settings related to WiFi, plus some others! I reset again the device and try again to be sure!!!!!!
I'll post the result asap if you're interested!
One of the problems with wifi-router is that it always uses channel 1. If any other router nearby uses channel one, you have no chance to connect to it, as it is very very low power. Check networks in your neighborhood if any of them uses channel 1, or go somewhere where there is no wifi (like park) and try it there.
Well, I'm not really sure, but disabling TCP Cache (on BsB Tweaks) solve the problem. I cannot be sure because now the "original" WiFi router works so I don't want touch anything else!
Maybe re-writing the BsB configuration help to solve the issue....
I'll investigate better when I come back from holidays!
do you have activated the wlan-n modus? if this registryhack is activ, wlan router dont work anymore.
i think this tweak can also edited in bsb-tweak tool or manual in windows registry. so deactivate the 802.11 n modus and your problem is solved.
Yes, I can confirm, this is one of the modification I applied on BsB, togheter with:
- TCP/IP High Cache = Off
- WiFi N = Off
- WiFi StandBy = Off
After that, WiFi router works again!
Damn! That's because I need to extremely tune everything!!!

WIFI problems when using streaming radio

ok......Ive had 48 hours of wifi lags/intermittent connection issues...It was really making my archos 70
purchase begin to taste sour.....
I was toying with the idea of upgrading my router firmware....or possibly changing to a new router as was suggested
by another forum poster....
Well.....Ive just had 1 hour of continuous dolphin based web surfing with not a single problem...
This is from expert "Spawn" found in another forum:
Forum:
Bug/problem - "disable powersave" doesn't work
Heres a tip
After you have setup the connection and connected via wifi, then goto the wifi manager under settings, click and hold on the connected wifi entry, a menu will appear where you have an option to edit the entry, select to edit, you will find the disabled powersafe option are not checked, check it and save the wifi entry - it now saves the option and keep wifi alive also during screen off.
This has worked great forme so far for a couple of hours. Will let you know tomorrow if this issue is solved...
well...of course, this needs to be done manually each time you launch your a70
Archos needs to fix that disconnect powersave switch in the next version of the firmware...
Let me know if this helps....

I tried this above and it does not work for me.
I want to listen to TuneIn Streaming Radio, also when I switch off the screen.
But then always WIFI is dropping.
I also downloaded
the app
WIFI keep alive
but this also does not work with my Archos 70.
My Firmware version is 2.3.26 (Android 2.2.1)
Is there any newer custom firmware that works better than this without WIFI dropping ?
Any good tutorial to root my Archos from my firmware version to a better custom firmware version ?
I only have the WIFI dropping, when the screen goes off... so there must be somehow a fix for this maybe
via another app ?
Many thanks in advance.
Regards, Stefan.

Jelly Bean build that doesn't drop wifi connection?

Like quite a few people I've been having problems with my S3 dropping the wifi connection, even though though I have "keep wifi on during sleep" set to Always (and have turned off wifi powersave mode using *#0011#). The connection also sometimes drops when the screen is on and actually downloading content.
I've tried various CheckROM and Wanam Lite builds and they're all had the same problem.
Is anyone running a Jellybean build that doesn't drop the wifi connection when in sleep mode?
That has nothing to do with the S III.
I was having this problem with both my S II and S III, tried several kernels in both, but then I found out the problem was with my network configuration.
I changed a few settings in my wi-fi access-point and now everything works correctly.
This is my setup:
- Wireless Multicast Forward (WMF) -> OFF/DISABLED
- WiFi Protcted Setup(WPS) -> OFF/DISABLED
- Auth -: WPA2-PSK with AES
Note: WPA2-PSK doesn`t work well with TKIP because if the phone by any chance falls back to 802.11a/b, TKIP will fail and the phone won`t authenticate
- 54g™ Rate: Auto
- XPress™ Technology: OFF/DISABLED
- 54g™ Mode: 54g Auto
- 54g™ Protection: Auto
- WMM (Wi-Fi Multimedia) : OFF/DISABLED
Actually, if I enable WMM(Wi-Fi Multimedia) my phone will sometimes not even connect to the access point. I found that disabling WMM had the best impact in my network`s stability.
Besides, I used an app called Wi-Fi Analyzer (free from the Play Store) that tells you what nearby wi-fi networks use which channel. I chose a channel that nobody was using and was more isolated from all the others. Do not leave channel in AUTO mode, because the AP might choose one that has lots of traffic.
In my house (where the setup above is installed) I have several neighbours using channels 1 to 8, but nobody using channels 9, 10, 11. SO I chose 11 because it has absolutely no interference from channel 8.

Ouch... better tell the guy to just shoot himself in the foot!
I'm EXACTLY the same.
I've been having Wifi dropout issues on every JB rom, was fine on ICS.
Tried power saver off (#*0011#).
Wifi sleep policies
Reflashing and flasihng other roms
Flashed different kernels
Flashed different modems
Fix permissions
various wifi fixers from the market.
AND IVE TRIED MANY MANY wireless access points around and about the country, all have the same issue (its not access point settings dependant)
All dont make a scrap of difference.
It makes Skype calls a nightmare.
One thing that i think helps, and im not 100% sure, but havent noticed any dropouts when applying this fix:
Root Explorer:
Turn off wifi. Mount R/W , go to efs/ and etc/ and /data/misc -> all three of these have a wifi folder in there. Set the permissions to rxrxrx (tick all 9 boxes) on each of these folders. And then turn wifi on again. And its USUALLY okay...
If you restart you will have to change the data/misc permissions again as it resets (so does the #*0011# trick).
Have a go, see what you think - i think it sort of works for me... but again, not entirely sure.
Hope this helps someone.

It seems that Jelly Bean is also more sensitive about it than ICS - I never had these problems with ICS.
My wireless routers don't have all of the settings that you'd listed - only these:
Buffalo router:
- Encryption (set to AES WPA-PSK - WPA2 is not available)
- Key renewal period (set to 60 mins)
- AOSS button (set to disabled)
- Wireless Mode (set to 11g/11b auto, but have also tried 11g only - "54M Turbo" )
- BSS BasicRateSet (set to Default)
- Multicast rate (set to Auto)
- Framebursting (set to 125* High speed mode)
- 802.11g protection (not enabled)
- DTIM period - set to 1
- Output power - set to 100%
Draytek Router (unable to check all current settings at the moment!):
- Security (set to WPA2/PSK)
- Mode (11g/11b/mixed)
- Packet Overdrive (enabled/disabled)
- Long Preamble (enabled/disabled)
Any ideas which of the above settings might cause issues with wifi on JellyBean?
I'll try the file system permissions thing later, but the fact that it needs to be repeated after every reboot is obviously a pain!
I have problems with the wifi at work too. Everything was working fine with the Draytek 2800 series wireless router (cannot remember the exact model) until the Jelly Bean update. I have tried different (stock) JB ROMs and modems (although modems are not related, i tried just in case). Each time I try to connect to the wireless network it is as if I am doing a DoS attack and no one can access the intenet until I turn the wifi off on my GS3. All it does in that time is "Work Network found" -> "authenticating" then the network disappears and reappears in a few seconds and then it is the same thing all over again. Of course I have tried forgetting the network, and re-entering the wpa key. I have also tried doing a factory reset to the phone, as well as the "*#0011#" method. None of these things worked. No one else is having any trouble with the wifi at work - and I wasn't until the JB update, so it must have to do with it, but I cannot find any work-around.
I have not been able to reproduce the problem with any other wireless network. Everywhere else that I have tried it works flawlessly.
Any help/ ideas would be appreciated!
I've now tried changing the firmware on my main (Buffalo) router. I tried DD-WRT, now Tomato, and my JB ROM won't stay connected to either.
Also having same problem since installes JB. i wnt wifi to stay on even when phone sleeps but cnt get it done like on ICS. Settings dnt change anything. How to fix that?
