[Q] Installing Thai font - XPERIA X10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Trying to install a Thai font into my new X10i but no luck. Got the fonts in Typefresh, managed to get them into system/fonts, /fonts, sdcard/fonts etc but it cant display them. I have Android 2.1 rooted but I don't get any message to reboot when I mount them. I also make the directories R/W and I reboot anyway according to all the threads I have read. When I check thru Root Explorer the directories are back to R/O. Got me baffled. Can anyone help please?
Greg

D Kub,
make sure you first change the permission of sdcard\fonts, you should be able to make a backup.
If you find no solution with typeflesh then just use RootExplorer to copy to system\fonts.
Again, make sure you have fix the permission.

I have tried both. After changing the permission in Rootexplorer to R/W then rebooting the permissions change back to R/O. Frustrating!
WAIT! late news.
The /system/fonts directory has R/W permissions. Still only see squares in messages, Google Translate and others. Huh?

I installed Thai fonts on my X10 using FontChanger. It worked perfectly for me.

No Market(Android Market)app on Galaxy S2 Stock (ZK)Firmware

Hi Everyone
Note : I did a search on this issue for any older posts found nothing sorry if i am wrong
I bought my Galaxy S2 from HongKong
when i turned it on for first time there were chinese stock apps, but no Android Market(Market) app, i have no idea maybe thats due to region
1-Anyways is there a way to get Andriod Market app?(i have downloaded two of em 3.1.5,3.3.1 they crash when i hit INSTALL/DOWNLOAD while downloading bar appears)
2- If i can not get Market app is there any other stock firmware that is best with Samsung default apps and Market app Closer to mine
I have Rooted(CF- Root) my phone
It came with ZSKI3 Kernel
Now it has XXKI3 Kernel(After Rooting)
Thanks in Advance!!!
Hey,
what u did with the files?
You know that u have to replace them in system?
So try this here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1331710
Use rootexplorer or kind of explorer which apply to go to system files.
Then copy (replace) it in system>app.
If you use rootexplorer, remind that you have to change it from "R/W" to "R/O"
(on top) which allows to replace files!
After doing it, clear the data like it's written in OP of the link.
Much succes

This. You dont have to actually "install" the market (or any other stock apps), but you'r supposed to push them to the system app folder where they belong.
Also dont forget to change from R/W back to R/O (i believe the guy im quoting didnt get it right, as R/W stands for read write, and R/O is for Read Only. But im not entierly sure. So its from R/O to R/W, place file, then back to R/O)

[Request] Stock Galaxy S III SamsungCamera.apk and .odex

Hi guys!
Could someone upload the original SamsungCamera.apk, please? Because when I'm tried to install HX Camera mod, i put the two files into a zip, when the Root Browser crashed. The two files were gone, and the zip became corrupt. After this, i put the mod to system\app. On the first run, it worked, but after a while it crashed. I run the camera again and it crashed after a time, again, and again. So I decided to try the video. And now it doesn't even want to start. So that's why i request the stock camera, and please upload as soon as possible. Thanks.

So, I downloaded this app and I've moved it to /system/app folder and I've tried to install it and it simply says "not installed". I've been searching the net for days now. I've done the following.
1. Root access for Apps and ADB
2. I deleted the CN 9 mod camera app in the /system/app folder (Is there something else that I need to delete?)
3. Installed Busy Box, Astro, ES File Explorer and Easy Installer
4. I successfully installed other stock apps such as S Voice.
I've found similar questions on the net, but no answer. Please help me out!
Set permissions to read write execute / read /read usint root explorer.
Reboot in recovery , wipe cache and dalvik.
Reboot.
That should do the trick

Thanks but no dice. I narrowed it down to few possible reasons, all of which I would need help with.
1. Even though, my options say that I'm rooted for "Apps and ADB", I don't think I'm "Fully rooted" as Android Commander still says "no root".
2. I don't have the right drivers. I was told that the "service drivers" are different than the normal USB drivers I get when I plug in my phone and maybe that's why Android Commander might not fully recognize my phone.
3. Permissions. I keep reading about read/write permissions, but maybe the options that I'm looking at is not the same "R/W" in question. I don't know.
4. Everything is correct and I just don't know what I'm doing
So, I realized that the app is a "read only" apk and it wont let me change it's permission in Root Explorer. Is there a way that I can change it? Or does anyone have another SG3 camera apk?
So, after extensive research, it has been reported that particular app doesn't work on custom roms.

U can change it actually in root explorer. At the top right there's R/O, click it so it'll be R/W.. from there u can change its permission. I know this is pretty obvious, but this may help u out. cheers!

how can i install the stock samsung sms app ?

hi,
I'm trying to install stock sms app but i can't achieve this. It keeps saying : installation aborded
I am on chameleon rom 1.1 ( hybrid aosp/samsung rom)
Can you help me ?
(sorry if i made mistakes in my post i'm not english XD )
You should copy the apk into /system/app, then change permissions into 644 (rw--r--r), change group and owner to 'root', and finally reboot and try.

i already tried it and it didn't work. and i am not sur about the about i trid to install because it s difficult to find the stock sms app.
i changed the permissions but i don t understand what you are saying by " 644 (rw--r--r)"
theoricaly it should work since i use an hybrid app ?
With a file manager, backup your mms.apk in /system/app in whatever folder you want. Then, copy the stock mms.apk into /system/app.
You shouldn't click on the .apk and let the app install as you do with other apk files, because this is a system application.
644 means read/write-read-read.
rw-r--r means u set read and write in the owner row , and set read only in the group row , and set read only too in the others row
Note : u get to permissions window in root explorer afer changing r/o read only to r/w read write from the button at the top
then just long click the item u want to change its permissions
i tried what you have said and it didn't work. Is a flashable zip existed ?
up
The stock mms.apk might not be compatible with the custom ROM you have on your phone...
Why do you say it doesn't work? What happens? You open it and it FCs or something else?
I just followed instructions given by posters above and it didn't worked. ( remove the old Mms.apk by the stock one, and fix the permissions, then reboot ) Maybe i don't have the good app, i don't understand why it didn't work; The chameleon rom support stock camera app of samsung and others apps...

Maybe the pakage cant be praised because of android version differnece , some apks from ics dont work on Jb and vice versa
So if u want a stock sms to work on jb , then download another jb rom that has it and take it from there
For pushing files to system app , it is better to first delete the app u want to replace then do a reboot after that copy the new app to system app and set premissions and set r/w back to r/o

Moved apk from /system/app to sdcard and moved back again to /system/app

I used root explorer to move some system apk & its corresponding odex file from /system/apk to sdcard. I rebooted and found that I have moved some essential app like the stock dialer (it wasn't possible to figure out from the apk name). So now the dialer was gone. I then moved them back from sdcard to /system/app using root explorer thinking that it would undo the mess.
However the apps didn't come back, for example the dialer. The phone still tells me that there is no dialer.
What do I need to do?
Maybe you copied framework or something that dialler need to work... Try put bac all files. If that doesn't help see if the dialer is inn apps.

I didn't move anything from any other directory. I moved back each and every file to /system/app that I had moved from it earlier. Still no luck.
I didn't delete anything in this process. I don't see dialer in app drawer either.

Yes, you are so right.
The apk permissions have screwed up after all the moving. I issued ls -l command in adb shell and this is what I found out.
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 3973 May 7 2012 HTMLViewer.apk
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 8784 May 7 2012 HTMLViewer.odex
----rwxr-x 1 system sdcard_r 562553 Feb 9 04:31 LatinIME.apk
----rwxr-x 1 system sdcard_r 327896 Feb 9 04:31 LatinIME.odex
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 14569 May 7 2012 LiveWallpapersPicker_gles20.apk
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 21392 May 7 2012 LiveWallpapersPicker_gles20.odex
LatinIME.apk is the keyboard with screwed up permission.
Now how do I fix it? What command do I issue?
fix permissions in recovery. or in connectbot or another shell program:
chown root:root /system/app/*.apk /system/app/*.odex
chmod 644 /system/app/*.apk /system/app/*.odex
reboot
You can also change permissions in Root Explorer itself. Hold down on the files, choose permissions and tick the first column and the first box of the second one. Leave the rest blank and press ok. That's it. If it still doesn't show, reboot. Fixing permissions in recovery does exactly this, but for all files in /system/app, /data/app and /data/data. Every time you copy something to /system or /data, you have to set the right permissions. Either in a root explorer app, adb shell, terminal emulator or fixing permissions in recovery.
LatinIME is the stock Android keyboard btw.

Unfortunately the dialer still doesn't appear. Which apk is the dialer? My phone has gingerbread.

You are right. LatinIME is the keyboard. That too had got screwed up. But by changing permission, now its back.
However as I mentioned above the dialer is still absent. Under all applications, the dialer shows up. But not in drawer.
Is there any android application or windows tool to help identify which apk corresponds to which android application. Some apk files have no bearing to the actual application name. Hence all this mess happened.
Well if you open the apps folder in a root explorer, the icons of all the apps will show. So you can identify from there. It works this way in Solid Explorer for me. Also in system apps most of the apps are named according to what they are. Example, dialer is Phone.apk, contacts are Contacts.apk etc. For other Play Store downloaded apps, which names starting with com.xxxxx, you can see their icons too.
Dialer is Phone.apk in Gingerbread. The screenshot I've put below is of the /system/app folder in Solid Explorer. I think even Root Explorer shows icons like that.

I can see two apks in my phone with dialer icon.
Phone.apk (& Phone.odex)
TelephonyProvider.apk (& TelephonyProvider.odex)
How do I get back the dialer? This is a dual sim phone and only the stock dialer gives the option to select sim before dialing. None of the market dialers provide this option.
phone.apk is the file.
I like using fix permissions from recovery. it fixes every permission within few seconds.

I have a backup. Unfotunately, I took a backup after messing up. So after re-flashing it with the backup, it boots in the messed up state.
I downloaded one gingerbread Phone.apk yesterday. I renamed the Phone.apk and Phone.odex in my phone to Phone.apk.bak & Phone.odex.bak. Then copied the downloaded Phone.apk to /system/app. Then fixed permissions via recovery and rebooted.
To my horror, not only did the dialer didn't appear, but also the phone wouldn't detect the sim cards. It would say no connection available...
So Phone.apk is affecting other stuff too. So I deleted the new Phone.apk and renamed the .bak to its original names, fixed permissions via recovery and rebooted. The phone still wouldn't detect the sim cards.
Then I went back to recovery, cleared Dalvik cache & user data, and performed clear data & factory reset. After reboot, the phone started detecting the sim cards again.
So this leads me to believe that something else other than permissions has a role to play.

Final stage of experiment but I need help to complete experiment...

I rooted ICS and copy Music Player.apk, Music Player.odex, MusicFX.apk & MusicFX.odex from System App and then I installed Gingerbread and paste normal way to System App and then I restart but Music Player app has gone from menu and app manager but shown in System App folder, I think I do wrong. Now I installed Jelly Bean (ROOTED) and I want paste in System App folder, so pls guys tell me what is the process of paste in System file for work? I can't understand system mount or r/w, Please guide me and which Root File Manager app can solve the solution. Pls pls pls guide me, I'm in very close end.
Thanks
To paste into system /app, you have to mount the system r/w. No two ways around it. In root explorer (app I use) it's just a button to press before pasting to system/app.
Once you've pasted, you need to fix permissions to rw-r--r--. If that doesn't make sense, go to the top stickies of the general section and read sun90's guide on how to set file permissions.

Yep. You seriously need to read the stickies. No need to make yet another thread for something like this.

I try all of this but not working. I download root explorer then open and this shown mount system r/w and when I check it its say not mount system r/w enable & then I copy and paste apk & odex file o system/app folder and then when I want change the permission the app asked numeric number and I don't the permission number so I exit this app and I download ap browser and then I change permission to rw-r--r-- then exit and reboot my device but after reboot music player has gone from menu. What should I do? My paste process ok? if no then please provide me the app name which is enable mount system r/w and also change permission.
Thanks...
Sun90's guide tells you how the numbering system works. Read it again, that's the exact thread I read to figure out how to do it.
I'd try again. It sounds like you'll be making a mistake somewhere. And I already did tell you the app I use, root explorer.
