but thanks anyway
For newbies, there aren't many topics on here that cover root for streak froyo... just trying to help a noob find what they need easier.

Well.... now when they do a search XDA dev website will pop up first in google making it that much easier for them. I am all about helping out someone who desires to mod their phone.
On another note, I am so glad gentlemen like you are here supporting all of us. I am confident that I can ask any reasonable question on here and someone will answer it. I do feel bad for the jackasses that do no research and ask a question on here though... lol, you guys won't let that stuff go. I don't blame you, I wouldn't want a bunch of noobs clogging up a serious forum with crap.

Just sit and wait until the bootloader is cracked or they find a way around it. Nobody knows how far they are.

Didn't want to have a go at you but since I've seen people get slaughtered on these forums when they don't really deserve it I think its only fair.
This thread deserves slaughtering! "They" do know how far they are, but so do I - I know they still haven't cracked it.
So how can they give you a timeline? If they could then they would have cracked it. They aren't waiting for a progress bar to reach 100%, they are actually trying to hack into it. I don't even now anything about android development but I'm intelligent enough to realise it takes work, especially when its not paid for. Let them get on with it and don't pressure them with stupid questions making them look incompetent.
Please close this thread! It's a useless topic

Buddy your post is worthless they dont know the poster above u explained it to you.. they might think their close but they can also run into a problem that would get them stuck for a long time.. so noone knows wait and see like the rest of us.. thats why there is a thread like custom rom dev and excelent progress on cyanogen so you can read whats going on and what the progress is. Read the forum.
And i also think the mods should close this thread as it is a joke.
Sent from my X10i using XDA App
For you to understand.. Lets say they are @ 99,99%, 1 small tiny thing can enormously slow down the proses or even make it (almost) impossible. No realistic person can put a timeline on these jobs.
A smart dev will never say it almost done before its really done.

And since they are all smart we don't know any timelines and they are working hard to ease our experience with this phone. Chill and wait till they inform you about the process.

good on you troll... we don't care!
The X10 community has some very talented developers working on the hack. I have no doubt 2.2 will be successfuly ported to our phone eventually.
Trolls must die... All.
Principally samsung-ay boys.
Asking how far they are is like asking how long is a piece of string.

A twice the distance from the middle to the end
I just wonder why people dance into the x10 forums to post when they dont even have a x10. Gtfo and let us make our threads, we can troll eachother TYVM
Obviously some regular users on this forum don't get it. For a newbie, these forums are very, very difficult to extract exact information from.
There are so many different threads to look at.
Then once you find the thread, sometimes you still can't get an answer because the language spoken, is very much developer only.
A simple, no, they haven't cracked it yet, but they are still working very hard, would have been an easy, quick answer for all who was looking.

Why don't you guys just look at the developers thread and see how far away they are? You make your own assumptions but at least you will know what they are working on at the moment. Like last I checked was working on ram disks. But please no posts. Just look if your curious.
Sent from my X10i using XDA App
Right now, imho no one works on cracking the bootloader, but the managed to boot from a custom ramdisk, however its still far from a full working image (right now its more a proof of concept) usable for simple users.
That is my impression as well after reading the dev thread.
It seems they "gave up" on the bootloader, or are focusing on booting the stock kernel, and after that instead of running the stock init scripts and OS to load another OS. (but the kernel is the same)
please correct me if i'm wrong.
I'm in no hurry to get a custom OS, but i'd still appreciate if the guys who are working on it could let us know, what exactly they're doing (no timelines of course)
Hey guys. So I'm working on my home screens and such and I just wanted to know if you guys could help me out by posting a bunch of stuff to get my beloved vibrant to look like its running gingerbread. And I know atleast one person will say to just flash a gingerclone or such but I'm not feelin it. So thanks in advance

OF COURSE "there'd be one" People have spent countless hour to provide the community with exactly what you're asking for, but you're too lazy/ignorant to figure that out. Sorry if you're "not feeling it." Build something yourself.
What does this dude even want?

I'm that somebody that tells you to just root, get nero or gingerclone, rock microbes lwp and viola. If your not feelin it then put the work in for ur beloved vibrant. Root isn't hard and its easy to undo later if need be. Who's gonna look that closely anyway, and why does it matter. Theres a guy that I work with that has the nexus s and doesn't even try to flex on me. My Vibrant w/ nero is effin beast. Are you one of those guys that walks up and says "hey, look at my phone". Don't be a poser, come correct or not at all. And another thing, if you want answers be specific about what you need help with, not just, I want it to look like... I'm not trying to bust ur balls, just sayin.

What I normally do is root so that I get cwm to make band backups and I can use fancy apps that help for further steps.
Unfortunately you'll have to read 1000s of posts about kernels/roms and how to use certain tools.
I'm no expert myself, but the more I read, and like watching you tube videos, the more I learn.
Also, you've got to tread carefully if your phone is still under warranty and you need to send it back....lol

welcome buddy, but as you're a member since last year, don't you know where to post this question you're asking? it has nothing to do with developing,
everything you need is in this forum so i guess you'll only need not to get busy, and search for them by yourself there's even a newbies guide to how to root/flash/do whatever you want with this phone,
people, please at least appreciate the hard work that has been done here by devs, and help them (and us) by reading just a little bit or searching just a little bit also! so we can have a developing forum that's clean of useless stuff as this thread for example
Only flashtool is needed.

Hey all.
I know this is a bit of a stupid question i guess, but i am not very knowledgable with roots/stocks or any other term you use. But ill ask anyway,
I am considering messing around with my S3, i am thinking about seeing if i can install a clean as google intended Jelly bean OS. Is this possible? What is the best and simplest way, and what is the risk percentage? What are the cons to such a move? And lastly is it easy to revert back to normal if i dont like it or send phone back to network for fixing at any point?
I know its quite a lot to ask. But i appreciate any help i can get.
Regards,
Barry.

Barry, try CM10 or AOKP.
Better ask in Q&A next time.

I would recommend that you check out either of the roms below. I reckon that these will currently give you the closest stock android jellybean that you are after. Just get your s3 rooted and add clockwork mod recovery then wipe and flash the rom zips and gapps.

The point of their posts was to point out your mistake.
It really doesn't take much leg work on your part to answer your own question without creating this thread....
Good luck modding your s 3.

The issue was that you asked a question in the Development forum and not the Q&A forum. We run a tight ship around here. Moved your thread to correct forum.
As others have said, CM 10 is your best bet.

How long have you been reading the forum? If you have been here for any length of time you will see the same questions being asked time and time again by people that don't put any effort into finding out how to solve it themselves.
Feel free to ask questions about things, but do your research first, your question showed that you didn't do this, hence the response you got.
Putting it in the wrong forum didn't help either.
