[Q] pls help to install custom rom on unlocked vibrant - Vibrant Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

my phone's network is unlocked and im using it in india, but really want to install some custom roms, from here, but will after installing those roms, my phone still be unlocked to be used in india???????????????

I'm not positive, but I'm pretty sure your phone is unlocked forever if you entered the actual unlock code. (EDIT: Assuming you don't intentionally/explicitly relock to network--this is possible, no?)
There's also a root/hack unlock method http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=906255 which can apparently be reversed.
How did you unlock the phone to begin with?

i got it unlocked from the gray market.....

[Q] Unlocking Question

Currently my wife's phone is unlocked. I am a noob and I am just getting into the flash/root android community so I upgraded her stock phone to JI6 on Eclair. As a result, her unlocking codes are not easily accessible anymore but the phone is unlocked. I'm wondering if I need to risk going through the steps in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=822008&page=11 (under Helroz) to find the unlock codes for the phone or I can just continue flash in Roms and kernels on her phone.
I guess the real question is: how important is it to have the unlocking codes if your phone is already unlocked and under what circumstances would the phone relock itself?
Thank you in advance for all replies.
Unlocked as in.... you can change out the sd card? Otherwise, if you have already flashed a differnet ROM, kernel, or modem or whatever, I don't think it would be different if you did it again.
But I would assume once you're unlocked...well you're unlocked, right?
Lol I am unlocked...I'm using the t mobile phone on the wind network I
n toronto so I can say with certainty that I'm unlocked. The reason why I'm asking is because we have two viberants (one that I have the unlock code and one that I don't ). being the noob that I am, I retired to manualy root my phone (the one I have the unlock code) using the update.zip file found in the sticky noob guideline.that one somehow re-locked my phone but I had the unlock codes so out was no problem. That's why I'm paranoid now about the phone relocking itself and I won't have the unlock codes.
Your right about it not asking for the unlock codes after rom and kernel updates.I'm hoping the situation where I re-locked the phone is a special, rare, and unique case. I'm going for some confirmation on this.

bootloader cracked or not? unlock phone possible?

Hi, I saw the news (on july) that the bootloader was cracked but then the posts about it's a lie and then the custom kernels appear and I don't know if the bootloader is unlocked or not.
My question is if there will be a way to free unlock the phone (sim unlock) shortly or better go paying an unlock code.
Thank you.
The custom kernels are here because some clever devs figured out how to bypass the bootloader to load unsigned kernels.
Apparently, Zdzihu is working with a mystery dev about unlocking the bootloader, and apparently, they have done it. Nothing has been released to us about it yet however.
Regarding your question, until the bootloader is unlocked, you will need to pay an unlocking service to sim unlock your phone. If the bootloader is unlocked, you might still need to pay an unlocking service.

Yum, no matter the bootloader is unlocked, the SIM unclocking is different and not relate to bootloader.

Actually, If you remember back to the flame war between Max and the_laser, much of the hype was about SIM unlock, as unlocking the bootloader would give us direct access to where SIM lock information is stored. I believe this is one of the reasons that SE will not unlock the bootloader, as they are in agreement with various carriers to keep it locked. The carriers obviously don't want people ditching them whenever they feel like it.
Edit:
I might have misunderstood your post. Sorry about that. But the bootloader is directly related to the SIM lock, on this phone at least, hence why I stated "If the bootloader is unlocked, you might still need to pay an unlocking service."

[Q] How to I find out my Atrix 4G bootloader is unlocked?

Hi Guys,
I recently purchased a Motorola Atrix 4G from ebay and the only information the seller had mentioned is that it is unlocked with Android 2.2.
My questions are:
- How do I find out if the bootloader is unlocked?
- How do I find out if the phone is rooted?
- Can the phone be SIM unlocked using a unlock code and the bootloader still remain locked?
- Can the phone be SIM unlocked using a unlock code and the phone remain unrooted?
- If the phone is SIM unlocked but bootloader locked, can I use the official gingerbread update of Motorola? Will this result in a bricked phone? If not will it lock my phone again after the official upgrade?
- If the phone is SIM unlocked and bootloader unlocked, can I use the official gingerbread update of Motorola? Will this result in a bricked phone? If not will it lock my phone again after the official upgrade?
These answers are in a myriad of threads. One i answered specifically yesterday.
I voided my warranty and your mum.

1) Bootloader is unlocked if you turn on screen (see the motorola logo) and top left says "Unlocked"
2) If you see it's unlocked at the top left, it's most likely rooted. Or you check things like Superuser and run adb commands like "adb shell" then "su"
- I think there's also an app on the market to check
3) Yes it can
4) Yes it can
5) You probably could and no, it wouldn't sim lock your phone again
6) You'll have to wait for someone else for a better answer with this. I would highly doubt it'd brick your phone but after reading around... it could brick it. I highly doubt it'd relock your bootloader though!
Thanks KAwAtA!

Thanks rexamillion59! I read some posts in this forum and it seems that if you only do a SIM unlock, it will stay SIM unlocked forever even after we meddle with our phones
So hopefully when I power up my phone, it wont have the unlocked text on the top left hand corner (meaning bootloader unlocked). This is because I prefer the stock GB update for my new Atrix as I am a noob!
i thought it was cool cause i i got a true clean reinstall to do with what i wish..maybe MOTO did it so they dont have to replace so many phones, who knows

[Q] Unlock Phone?

Hi there,
I've recently got a new phone - Xperia Active.
It's locked to a Skinny Mobile Network as the packaging says "This phone will only work with Skinny Sim!". - I bought this from site similar to ebay. The phone is brand new - won in a competition.
http://skinny.co.nz/
I spoke to customer service who told me that it would cost $30 to unlock it but if i am with them for 9 months, it's free.
The questions I had in mind are:
1) Is it safe to flash a custom firmware on a 'locked sim network' phone?
2) What is the steps I have to take to flash a custom firmware i.e. expeacer's muiu or Real ICS ??
3) After 9 months i decide to unlock my phone (sim lock), would anything stuff up i.e if i stick another sim card in, the menu doesn't show up for entering the network unlock code.
Update:
checked my bootloader settings. It says: Unlock bootloader allowed: No

Custom firmware means a combination of custom Rom and custom kernel
1. You can only flash custom Rom's which have support for locked bootloader and I don't think you will get any problem with it (I'll better leave it for someone else to answer because I've never used a network locked phone)
2. As said above you can only flash custom Roms with locked bootloader and you can NEVER FLASH A CUSTOM KERNEL. You cannot use Roms which require their own custom kernel.
3. NO. you can stick up any sim after unlocking your phone with the unlock code your network provider (skinny) gives you . As your network provider said you can purchase the unlock code by paying 30 bucks or wait for nine months and get it from them for free. Either way you need a unlock code to use other sim cards.
and I'm sorry you can never use Roms which require custom kernels even if you have unlocked your network locked phone because your phone says "bootloader unlock allowed:NO" it means you can never use custom Roms like Cyanogenmod or other custom Roms which requires their own kernel to be flashed prior flashing the Rom .
To flash a custom kernel you need a unlocked bootloader and to unlock your bootloader your phone has to say "bootloader unlock allowed:yes" unfortunately yours says NO
EDIT: I learned that you could ask the network provider to change the bootloader status to yes after getting through the prescribed period of 9 months or after paying 30 bucks. After getting it to show 'yes' you can unlock the bootloader and flash custom kernels.
HIT THANKS IF I HAVE HELPED YOU!

Trying to flash my M4 to older or different ROM so i can unlock bootloader

hi there,
like the title says im trying to flash a different / older/ stock ROM to see if i can unlock the bootloader and or if anyone knows a way i can root my device without the bootloader that would be great too but i think ive expended all my options..... if you can help in any way that would be great! thank you
also i have flashtool downloaded but can not get it to work with my device just keeps saying my bootloader can not be officially unlocked ..... can it be unofficially unlocked?
You have to use the Xperia M2 method to unlock the bootloader as there is still no official way.
There are more than enough guides in other topics where you can read how to unlock your bootloader. First enter the service menu(*"*"service"*"*) and check is it is allowed on your device. If it says 'no' there is no way to unlock. Also if you can unlock don't forget to tick the box in developer options
For root you can afaik just install twrp for locked bootloaders and flash a root (supersu for example)
thanks guys ,
yes i have looked into the tutorials and cannot seem to make it work.
i tried the m2 method and nothing either ..... my bootloader says it cannot be unlocked but ive been reading and apparently there is a way to get around it .... ive successfully flashed different ROMS to try and gain root access too but with no luck
so i guess im asking if anyone has had luck with unclocking there "locked" bootloader on an m4 or if it is even possible at all?
any help is greatly appreciated
