Im currently running Nero 3 and LOVE it, thank you so much TW for making the vibrant such a great phone with your ROMS.
Now my question, which version of Nero is the BEST in everyone's opinion. I want to flash V5, but am curious what everyones thoughts are on the versions available, again I LOVE v3, but if V5 is better why not yea?
Thanks for the advice in advance.

im on v4.1 but im going out of town otherwise id be hitting v5.
im using the ka5 modem on 4.1 though and i like it so far.
You can try v5 but many are going back to 4.1 because the KA5 is not very stable. Many people are having issues with it, including myself.
Since I'm not as technically gifted as most people in this forum, I will speak for the layman who can root, update theme's and use ODIN to some degree. I have used NeroV3 for a few weeks now, and since I updated to the BlackFroyo theme, I have fell in love with the phone again. It is fast, stable with great battery life (over 26 hours with 50% remaining with light use), I haven't dared screw around with changing to a different modem, but I will continue to use V3 until I can see a practical reason to change.
Which Version?
I have made the progression from Nero_Beta_3 all the way thru Nero 5. I am on it right now, and I think that the KA5 is a bit different. The modem I think will work better for some than others, depending where you are. With the KA5 I am getting a bit better signal in my house that before, House is kind of in a dead zone and I usually only get 1 bar, however I am now getting 3 consistantly bouncing on 4.
So basically it is up to you, if you don't mind trying V5 and then flashing back to V4.1 if it doesn't work for you then that I what I suggest.
Nero 6.5, I hear it has the Gingerbread Man inside.
Im running nero 5 right now, did a lot of testing last night, everything seems to work at the moment, just fine! Gps took a little time to get some locks, but after its first lock, it seems to work better. Signal is about the same for me, but i live in an area with good reception. Nothing strange so far using the KA5. Gf is running Nero 4.1 with JL5 atm. Both phones seem pretty close. So if you want to upgrade to nero 5 i think its a personal choice.

I never understand people like you who ask this. Flashing a new rom, especially one that is simply an upgrade to your existing one, takes like 5 minutes, and usually, using common sense would dictate that v3----> v5 is an upgrade in some sort, likely for the better.
But yes, v5 is good.

Correct, but the bible hasn't been updated in a month.
Nor has the wiki which can be found HERE.
To be honest, I've only found minimal difference in the performance of the most recent 2.2 ROMs. They're all fairly good.
Before you jump in to deep, please do some research. You will save yourself alot of headaches. The stickies are a great place to start.
Powered by Axura with a dash of Voodoo
ROMS
This is some kind of basic orientation:
First, nobody can really tell you which rom will work better for you.
Vibrant problem is that, there are many variations on the hardware, some have a bigger nand, some can be overclocked some cannot. Some get problems with vodoo.
You just have to be ready to experiment, and most importantly not to panic if something goes wrong.
First step. Get familiar with ODIN, learn how to use it and most important, learn how to get your phone in Download Mode.
Step two. Be sure you have the original shipping rom (pit and tar files) at least to odin back to shipping stock. This can save your life if OC is not supported by your phone, if you forget to disable vodoo or lagfix before flashing another rom, and so on)
Step three. If you install any kind of lagfix, including Voodo, be sure to disable it, before flashing anything else. (If you forget you vcan always fix it, going back to stock and repartition it, i can't recall anybody actually bricking a Vibrant just for doing that)
Decide if you want stock or a modified rom. Read, read a lot, to see adventages and disadventages of each.
Decide if you want 2.1 or you are ready to go for froyo
And remember, I can't recall anybody bricking the phone, but be careful you can always be the first, and is only your responsability not anybody else, if you brick your phone.
ohh hand don't forget to HAVE FUN!!!!
My suggestions...

Take a look at my recent video reviews of some of the latest popular ROMs. There are instructions in the description box of the videos to get you started =]
I embedded one of my videos below. This one showcases Axura 2.2.5.7. A great looking ROM that is fast, stable, and again, very good looking. If you check out my channel I have other videos of other ROMs. A video of Nero v3 by Team Whiskey will be up in an hour.

I strongly recommend AXURA. I'm currently on 2.2.5.7. Very stable and fast, unlike Nero v3 in my experience. I'm actually surprised at how stable it is!
I was using CyanogenMod 6.1 before Axura, which is a complete AOSP Android build (without any Samsung crap) with many improvements. I've been using CyanogenMod since I had my G1 before the Vibrant, and I really wanted to use it on my new phone, but unfortunately it's still buggy. Even with sombionix's SD mount fix, the external SD cannot be mounted. Video playback doesn't seem to be GPU accelerated like it normally is. Mounting USB usually tends to consume lots of memory on the phone (maybe a memory leak?) while I work with large files, and it just stops the connection.
I didn't want to use a Samsung-based ROM, but Axura is the best right now IMO.
Axura ROM thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=891657
I would stay away from anything tagged team whiskey. Axura, imo, is the most stable of the vibrant mods. Try them all and decide for yourself but get comfortable with Odin and imaging back to stock. Especially if you test out TW mods.

I've used axura and nero, but I am currently using pepperkake, and it is by far the best of both worlds. Fast, stable, and the battery life is awesome! I highly recommend it, everything just works! (v2)

Why? I got NeroV3 and love it. Got the leaked Froyo from Team Whiskey in NeroV1Beta3 and then upgraded to Nerov3 using JUST my phone. You have to give them a few points for making it so dam easy. As far as stable, been running it through the ringers for days now with no problems whatsoever. You enable the Voodoo on NeroV3 and it will scream. I got the Touchwiz version, you should give it a shot OPer

Nero V3 w/ Launcher Pro is more of the way to go lol.. Voodoo enabled of course. Super fast, I'd put Axura in there but, Axura is slightly more buggy and has this problem with the white or gray font color in the notification bar with music players, where the font blends in with the gray theme.. Nero is sleek and clean and bugless IMO.

Axura 2.2.5.7 smoothest and fastest i've tested with voodoo enabled ..... Pepperkake is also pretty smooth and fast. These are the two i like most for their speed and stability.
Hi everyone,
Sorry if this post comes across as lazy. I used to like forums, but they strike me as so inefficient these days. I can't stand the thought of trolling through hundred-page threads and weighing contradictory information anymore.
So, here's a few simple questions I hope someone will answer to convince me to flash Nero:
The Nero V3 thread says it uses the JL5 modem. Why is this better than JL6? (that's the newest, right?)
I was under the impression that modems needed to be flashed with Odin, yet the Nero thread states that JL5 is included. It will install this on its own?
Actually, that's it. The reason I want an update is mostly due to modem glitches. I'm using my Vibrant in Canada on the new WIND network, and there are some issues with roaming and loosing connection. That's why I was concerned about only using JL5.
Thank you!
JL5 is the newest, i think you are confusing that with JI6. JL5 is 2.2, JI6 is 2.1, both are the newest respective os versions.
the modem doesn't have to be flashed with odin. nero contains the kernel and everything you need except clockwork and root.
Fantastic! Thanks a lot. I was indeed confusing JI6 with JL5!
Do it.
Never mind, don't do it. V4 is coming out soon.

It's either going to be v4 or an updated v3, read the ROM thread.
Due tonight/tomorrow.
I believe theyre working on a GB port.
Heh...here I was checking their forums and they post that on here instead. Go figure.
i know isn't that funny, but there is not sense in waiting, nero 3 is wonderful and it is SOO fast to get on your phone i wouldn't hesitate to go ahead. See my Nero v3 post for all the good it can do
nero is fast, stable, good looking, the only thing thats killing it on my phone is the battery, someone suggested a battery re-condition, what else should i do?
I'm sure you already know this but i have to remind myself from time to time. AMOLED screens are bright, colorful, and high fidelity. 90 to 95 percent of your batteries usage every day is that. NERO 3 did a fantastic job of making running everything else on absolute minimum power, but when it comes down to it. If battery is an issue, bump screen brightness down to 80 or 60 percent for big battery life increases
This rom is awesome! My roaming issues are fixed!!!
i flashed nero and had a threesome that night, WITH TWO GIRLS! THANKS TEAM WHISKEY!
Can anyone give me a great reason to flash a 2.2.1 ROM? I know 2.3 should be awesome and I'm more than willing to wait. I've been on Nero V3 for a couple of months and have never had better battery life (I'm on day 3 with 31% remaining and moderate calling in between) or stability. I'm only interested in switching if there's a great reason to. Right now the only reason I can think of, is beacuse there really is no more themeing going on for Nero and I couldn't say that flashing Bionix themes would work either. Random question to help me get through my morning here at work......thanks in advance for all of your input and expertise.

If your happy with what you have. If you have read what the other roms have to offer in them and it doesn't interest you. Then your right it's a Random Pointless Question. Here is a random thought for you. Can you back up the rom your on? Could you then flash several different roms to see what they are about for yourself? That way if none interest you then you can go back to the one your on.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I've used both and don't see any major difference. Flash whichever ROM you like best.
2.2.1 I9000 ROMS over Nero:
Positives:
-Able to use any I9000 Theme (there are over 30 available, all really good)
-Faster opening of apps and generally less lag
-Better GPS than Nero
-Dead Horse, DOW, Dragon kernels work with it (though they also work on Nero)
Negatives:
Wi-Fi calling will not work.
Hadn't thought much of backing up what I had and then trying something else. I also didn't think much about kernals, just UI changes were all I was thinking of at first. I appreciate your input guys, and I will keep looking at what becomes available. Thanks!
Flash away and find out what you like...roms are like sneakers--one for every occasion and each person.

Try better roms, their better because they have new things nero doesn't have. 2.2.1 is... well it feels the same because i use voodoo, but yeah. It is techinically faster.
3 days and 31%?
OH HELL NAW!
Thats like super light use lol.
2.2.1 has higher quadrants and just feels snappier too. I had darky running on my vibrant with dead horse and jfs lagfix. The phone was ridiculously fast.
Why wait, you are missing out on all the flashing fun... and headache too.
what do you guys think is better than TW that i should try, miui?
Miui was pretty cool. Visually appealing but for me some apps didnt work and battery life sucked. I am using phiremod 2.0. It's a cm7 that in my opinion apart from bionix is the best rom I've tried I get great battery life and its really fast and reliable. I've been on it for about 3 months

If you want a good quality 2.2, check out Toxic8 or Deranged9. Both excellent ROMs with great support and outstanding battery life.
If you want the latest then ICS Passion is where it is at but make sure you are comfortable flashing ROMs, Odin and bootloaders. Oh and read, read, read.
I've been using ics passion 10.6 its great! no rom gives good battery life for me but this isn't any worse than stock 2.2 battery life
I am new to this stuff, but I flashed Zendroid a few days ago and love it. Super solid, no glitches at all yet. I have 25% battery right now after a full day's use and that never happened on stock. I love it, super clean, super smooth. I can't speak to "better" than bionix as I haven't tried that ROM yet. Just know that Zendroid is awesome.
I was on bionix 1.3.1 and was hesitant to try ics passion but the rom is smoother than I ever imagined.
Ok so I was looking at ics, and there's a ton where can get the best rom and kernels or is there a good site I can read about it?

Just look for the "ICS Passion v11" thread in the Development sub-forum. I recommend the stock kernel, only because it lags for me if I use Eugene's. Results may vary though, so you should try both and see which works best for you.

I think it really depends on the features that you're looking for. Personally, I don't really see the necessity to jump ship to a GB or ICS rom for the Vibrant just yet (if ever). Someone posted a pretty legit list on Fishman's mod noting the differences between Android versions that you should check out to see if updating is worth it for you.
+1 for bionix from me..
ICS Passion v11 is pretty sleek, but since there's no 1080p video recording I may have to revert back to Bionix.
The Vibrant is a better video recorder than my Flip- I'm not sure why they would cripple the video.
360 productions make some great miui roms. I prefer lithium. you could give those a try
I've been using bionix nextgen v2 for a long long time, and it's fantastic but I'd really like to make the jump to a GB rom.
Mainly because I can't stand the fact that my CM7 Nook Color can run apps that my Galaxy S class phone can't.
Only GB ROM I've tried so far was the first stable CM7 version, but no matter what I tried I couldn't get my GPS to work _at all_. Since I actually make use of my GPS on a fairly regular basis I went back to bionix nextgen.
Can anyone recommend GB or ICS roms that have good GPS performance (meaning they don't have that "turn off GPS once and you have to reboot to get it back" issue)? Been browsing through the roms listed in the dev forum, but I'd also like some extremely fresh personal feedback from other users here.
Thanks in advance all.

Would also like to know whether such ROM (GB with working GPS) exists...
Since my original post above I've switched to ICS Euphoria. It does have the GPS off = reboot to use it problem, but honestly leaving the GPS switched on all the time does not seem to have a serious impact on my battery life vs what I was getting before. In the end I'm fine making that tradeoff in order to be on modern firmware. ICS is _awesome_ and I don't see myself going back.
Hi, I've got a Vibrant on T-Mobile and recently got myself an SGS2 and am giving the Vibrant to my pops.
It's currently running neobuddy89's ICS Passion v13 w/ patch. (Thanks to him and everyone else who worked on it btw! awesome rom!)
Anyways, I was wanted to get some input on what a good rom would be for someone who has never had a smart phone before. I'm looking for something thats super stable and has awesome battery life while still being user friendly.
Any and all opinions are welcome.
Bionix 1.3.1 is super stable and has great battery life, but its a 2.2 rom
hmm i think i've tried that version of bionix before. if it's the one im thinking of, i liked it a lot. thanks for the input.
From experience it is easier to be running a rom you have used, or are using I keep my mom's vibrant on the same rom I am on just so I can help her if an issue arises, but if you are moving to a different phone pick on that is super stable
You make a very good point with that; It would likely be troublesome to potentially have to learn the ins and outs of two new roms.. have you tried any of the CM roms?
I used cm7 for quite a while, but gps sucks and I have run into random issues but I guess that happens on all roms. I suggest staying where you are and every once and a while updating the rom once an update comes out
yeah its battery life im really after and ics passion's isnt bad but its not the best i do remember that with bionix v, i went up to 2 days without charging with moderate use sometimes. lol
It depends if he reads off his phone at night honestly. If you use bionix or any 2.2 rom your eyes get blasted every screen touch by the capacitive buttons, not so on 2.2.1 roms. If he does read at night I recommend bi-winning with the sgs2 theme. Very polished and mature in my opinion. With Bali undervolt his battery life will be stellar.

CM is officially supported on the Vibrant again. Changes and link to latest nightly here:
http://cm-nightlies.appspot.com/?device=vibrantmtd
I'm running build 229. Haven't tried GPS yet, but everything else seems to work.
Well, first, you could always flash back to stock. I'm pretty sure that's the most stable ROM, ha. Otherwise, I liked Bionix and CM. Both were very smooth and everything worked, as far as I can remember. You could also try Lithium Volt, but I haven't gotten to do much testing stability wise.
i would say bionix as they mentioned before on this thread. simply becuase it's been put up to the test by many and is known to be stable and has great batt life.
all the new roms are still being tested and still have bugs and well since it's for your dad i would assume he just needs something stable not anything flashy and wild.
+1 bionix with bail UV
