ok this is a tutorial for those people stuck on a login screen.
first-off im not a develloper (far from it)
all info here is made by others and i do not take credit for it!
credits are @ the bottom.
since this question keeps popping up all over the forum and i had a bricked se myself i used a whole bunch of "tutorials" wich all lead to nothing,
so the i started fiddling around since it was broken anyway.
let me first explain i would like to thank the community here for offering all these great tools wich allow us to modify and restore our se.
ok so when i started my phone was completly bricked.
@ 1 point i managed to install xrecovery and accidentally installed a x10 version of a update.zip file...
i managed to flash that update.zip of a x10 version to my x10 mini pro wich completly destroyed my system.
i had no chance to boot in xrecovery because i am a complete noop in installing any kind of script to a android phone.
(if i were pro i would not have bricked it to start of with )
i accidentally wiped xrecovery in one of my previous attempts to "fix" my se with the flashtool ...yes i forgot to run the good update.zip out of the firmwares folder and choose the wipeuserdata option wich removed my xrecovery that i had installed....
so everything that could go wrong went wrong...
since it didnt really matter what i did with my freshly created brick i started digging around on the forums and found this post:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=920746
wich is a great way to flash roms to a previous version.
so i downloaded the tool 0.26 was the version wich i used.
after i got the tool installed i downloaded a new "old" rom.
i had too fool the se companion tool that i was using a old version.
these roms are found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=826455
pick anyone because it does not matter at all (since im dutch i used the dutch version)
even though my system files were messed up to a point of no return the rom installed just fine but did not boot... but now i had atleast a older rom installed.
so i started the se companion and crossed my fingers...
and it updated! because the old rom was predated to their latest firmware they pushed out the update wich fixed the system files and gave me the latest firmware.
but now ofcourse i was on a stock rom not rooted or anything.
since i am such a noob at this i tried a new all in one script made by mikevhl
found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=10596265#post10596265
it automaticly rooted my phone, installed busybox and xrecovery
after that i just ran the keyboard layout fix found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=822050
but now i needed apps2sd because that was the only reason i ever started this madness called upgrading....
but instead i found this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=919326
it is not apps2sd!! but links2sd
Instead of moving all applications to SD card with app2sd, I want to move only selected applications.
Because I don't want to move my launcher, soft keyboard and dialer application to SD and make them unavaliable on boot if my SD card has problem or not inserted.
and because this is a apk even a geek like me can install that with astro..
please note that Link2SD does not move data and dalvik-cache, it only moves the apk file. This is what Android 2.2+ does. APKs are actually on the card; the dex files, private data directories, and native shared libraries remain in internal storage.
for actual apps2sd i would reffer you to use any other script/installation w/e. after all my failures i could not be asked anymore and found that this sollution was more than enough for me
the only thing you need to do is partition your sd card wich is verry easy and there is a perfect tutorial allready found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/index.php?title=SD_card_partitioning
so now i changed my bricked phone wich i considered dead to a working latest firmware rooted xrecovery links2sd working phone in less than a hour..
i would like to thank:
Androxyde and bin4ry for flashtool!
whooper90 for his keyboard-layout tutorial!
Mikevhl for his perfect script!
bakpinar for his links2sd program!
and ofcourse everyone contributing to their projects.
amen
a good post.thank you
nice post but i want you to point at an easier way
when you soft bricked your devices and i think i am one that have done that the most in this forum lol
have restores my soft bricked pro for more like 350 times now...
pull battery out open SEUS go further till you see you need to connect your phone
plug usb cable in it hold back button and put battery back in
and you rom will be flashed
this will always work coz we have s1 bootloader and thanks for that SE!
unless you go **** around with the boatloader ofc xD
i recently moved on to yet another mobile phone which i hope to be using for a couple of months since the se was not entirely to my liking but yes your method works fine ofcourse unless your bootloader is messed up
anyways i just expressed my way of fixing my problem on the situation i got myself into..which is probably verry simmilar to most nubs messing around on a android the first time and end up with a soft bricked phone... and to help them understand their bricked phone i wrote my little tut just for the nubs like myself.
what if i stuck at the SE logo?
my problem already solved now..thanx every1..xda roxx
hello gentlemen
i bought my viewpad 7 last week. after digging this forum i tried to root my tablet with super one click but i was unable coz it stuck in screen and happen nothing somehow i tried gingerbreak and it worked. as i am totally newbie in android os and i have no idea on programming. but the most important thing is clockwork recovery i saw couple of youtube videos and tried working but ended up with error . i dont know how to setup adb on my pc so i tried terminal emulator but no keyboard.. tried qtadb but show me '' permission denied'' now i am pulling my hair off. i have got rom manager installed on my tablet but whenever i ty to install update.zip it say signature error or somthing (i have got custom rom in my sd and renamed to update zip also i have clockwork recovery img and flash recovery) the only thing i need is a working terminal emulator as i have no idea on comand from pc.
so is there anybody who can give me a easy tutorial or make a video to demonstrate how can i get clockwork recovery installed also custom rom i would be really really greatful
hope someone saves me...
Hello & welcome, there's no need to panic but definitely - very important to be patient, set aside at least half a day or more, and, read - read - read. Take notes as you go along & do NOT rush.
If you have not gone thru this sticky, please do so - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1236990
Sticky #1 is mandatory reading to take full advantage of the Vpad7 so that you can understand the basics, describe your Vpad's hardware & build information, etc. and how to press various buttons, go back, reset & get into Recovery and Bootloader. Without knowing it, you are prone to run into problems.
First, you need to check & make sure that your CWM (which verison) is properly installed & working (and, if so) - check under the Advanced submenu to verify "Signature Verification" status.
Do you have an "older" non-ITE or "newer" ITE multi-touch screen device, which determine which custom ROM can be used? Be specific, please ...
Generally speaking, there is no need to rename a downloaded ROM's zip file to update.zip for flashing ... so I suggest that you do more reading first.
Do you have USB debugging turned on? Applications - unkown sources turned ON to allow installation of non-Market apps? A working knowledge is essential to avoid (soft) bricking your device by being able to understand the process for Flashing - start here http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/Flashing_Guide_-_Android
There's nothing simple & easy about all these, sorry - time & patience is a requirement to get everything working together. Look under the "Development" section for how to install ROM & the issues involved - there are just a handful of ROMs and you don't need to spend a hundred hours going thru all of them, a few hours of reading will do - a 10 minute Youtube video isn't going to do it. The best person to "save" you is you - YMMV. Regards.
thanks a million i finally made it. i used rom manager to install un official clockwork recovery and did install custom rom however i need one more final solution i was trying to get app2sd but my rom maker said it is built in inside the rom just need to creat ext3 but i guess i cant do that without comand so again is there any manual method to do that i saw an option on rom manager but it offers only 512mb partition but i want more may be 8 gb or 4gb i have 16gb sd card.. so can u help me pls...
and i yes i had usb debug on. unknown source on

1. Rom manager - I do not use them on my Android devices but if you are comfortable with it and help simplify your tasks & learning curve, good for you. Remember to backup, backup & backup your work & save it to more than one location - those "oops" happened to all of us, sometimes (and, at the worst time - Murphy's Law 101)
2. You only need a few files in its own sub directory or folder to properly run adb and busybox, and, to run the (good old DOS) command prompt from your PC - just need to type the commands carefully. Alternatively, Terminal Emulator (with or without the shell or user interface) can be downloaded from Android Market to the Vpad7 to install & run (it's not pre-loaded) with SU enabled ... (more reading for you on how-to's)
3. Not sure if you are referring to App2SD in Market (quite a few out there) or DT's A2SD and A2SDGUI in some of the custom ROM. Vpad7's custom ROM recommend 1 MB SD ext3/partition in general (ext4 is more advanced and challenging) - there is no need, advantage or benefit in a 2GB or 4GB ext3 with a 16GB mSD card (as you are allocating/reserving unused space that you cannot dynamically changed or reassign later on as you begin to run low on "general" storage space on the card - PLUS, you will have to reformat the card & wipe/lose everything on it, until it's restored from saved backup)
FYI - I keep the last 3 to 5 CWM Backup images/files on the mSD card and it's close to 3GB in size already, not counting pix, mp3's and saved videos.
4. Older version of CWM Recovery worked best for me in repeated ROM flashing & setup to partition/format the mSD, verison 5.0.2.6 can work but the newest one posted 5.0.2.7 did NOT work for me - YMMV, of course. Refer to the one in Cleanviewpad7 V1.0 and its instructions or EU Vapd 7 V1.7b - as I'm guessing from your description that your device is a newer ITE multi-screen hardware build. KWBR V3.2 ROM works with ITE and has the newer kernel and A2SD is easy to use per installation guide - it's lean & stripped of non-essential apps.
Have patience, backup & have run !
thanx again for ur reply but i dont know why i do not get keyboard on my terminal emulator. i tried to put comand through terminal emulator but due to keyboard issue i cant i also tried dos but i have no knowledge on that. can u make a video for me or a tutorial how can i get a2sd work on my vpad 7

First, as I asked before, we do NOT know which ROM you are trying to use?
But, I'm going to guess - since I've flashed all of the working ITE ones here, and you are using KWBR v3.x - and, if so, please confirm or verify, yes or no.
If so, I had issues with its keyboard not showing up in terminal emulator, and there are different reasons for it - namely, including the OP developer's choice of installed KB. However, as a workaround - by running adB/busybox from Windows Vista's command prompt, I can execute instructions to re/mount, reboot, etc.
By installing a different KB & switching to it, it worked under terminal and I can run command prompts directly. There is a learning curve involved here - not something to rush, rather steps by steps - there are "stickies" in the threads and I do not want to further clutter up excellent guides already written up, 6 to 9 months plus ago - which I took time to read, follow & work with. I encourge you to do so as well.
My advice, the easiest to do, is to install & start with a different ROM - Cleanviewpad ROM is basic, simple & easy to install, virtually "bug" free and I suggest that you start with that. KB worked directly as a toggle, popping up from terminal emulator, and you can run commands from it.
Once you are comfortable & has everything working, you can optimize your A2SD and move apps from internal storage to mSD card, etc. and progress to the next level - EU Vpad 7 V1.7b ITE ROM is nice but from experience and reading the thread's posts, some "beginners" lacking knowledge & skills have trouble with it. By running a # of patches, I get it updated to the latest and it's running optimized to my personal liking - it's not entirely difficult to learn but not for someone completely new to Android OS.
Here's a link that you could've google right here in XDA - guide to ADB - bookmarked the link for you, please search for other guides, thanks

hi there thank you so much for helping me again and yes i am using kwbr rom because i have tried cleanviewpad 7 but stuck at welcome screen doesnt work anything then tried lakehouse froyo enhanced but link disabled so stuck with this rom.. i really wish i cloud post on dev section coz im kinda stuck with this post..
but hey if u dont mind and if u have froyo enhanced rom can u upload that for me or give me a working link...
sorry for bothering u but would appreciate
Still waiting for a ROM for Viewpad 7e. Anyone know of one in development? Even the stock ROM bundled with CWM would be good so that we would have the ability to do a Nandroid backup.
Sent from my SPH D700 using XDA App
Cyanogen Mod 9.4, Shadow kernel, EI22. I like my Ice Cream Sandwich!

Are you making good progress after rooting with custom ROM, learning a bit more about using adB and terminal emulator? I searched my storage bins for what I've kept for the Vpad7 - and I have NO luck yet finding the Froyo enhanced ROM. I did uploaded the EU V1.7b ITE custom ROM to Dropbox, along with the a2sd*.zip file (just in case, you are comfortable & ready to try - after backing things up) The A2SDGUI app is available in Market, just search & download & install up once the EU V1.7 ITE ROM is up.
A2SD does NOT need to be working for the ROM to do its basic functions, just that it will soon run low on internal storage/memory and that's where A2SD come in. If you find it useful, do a CWM backup first , then use the earlier version of CWM to reformat the mSD card again (thus, wiping it clean) and setup a 1MB ext3 partition per detailed instructions. Reboot & reconnect USB, and move/restored all of your saved files/folders/settings, etc. back to the mSD drive.
Next, flash the A2SD program by DT again just to be sure from Recovery - and then Restart into Recovery. Wipe cache & dalvik and boot up again - cross your fingers and A2SD should be up & running - check it with A2SDGUI and/or Titanium Backup will display various memory/partition/storage space & usage (used/free & total)

Again, I am and will be be responsible for anything if something goes wrong by using & flashing these zip files, they are unchanged or unaltered as I originally downloaded them. I'm simply posting them with the mess created by the multi-upload servers being offline, etc. as many folks are completely at a loss for what to do next. Full credits go to the OP/xda-developers for creating their masterpieces. If you are not comfortable or unsure, please do not proceed or assume the risk - the stock ROM, especially unrooted, isn't bloated by any means at all. There is NO over-clocking at this point for any ITE kernel for the Vpad7, period - none that I know of. Folks, do NOT confuse or try this with Vpad7e (which is a different device, sorry - cannot help at all)
Regards & do post with your results and share, and, if I can help further with the specifics, will be glad to do so.
about the euvpad rom

Personally, I prefer and continue to use EU V1.7b for ITE, it has support for European languages as well as Asian languages. KWBR only support Euro language and the ROM is more "stripped" down with fewer apps, but it does work nicely "out of the box" with A2SD - downside being that internal memory/storage still seem to run low (once I re-install 50+ apps on my device)
For EU V1.7 - it's using an older version of Android Market, but can be easily updated if one wanted to, and, has a few more "basic" apps pre-installed including Documents To Go - and, by adding "Car Home" - I have a working 7" GPS device in the car when needed (sound volume is low, however due to those tiny stereo speakers) - I have been running it for 5+ months now, very smooth & few, if any, FC or freezes, and, Angry Birds running nicely on it, same with YouTube videos over WiFi connection (my 3G is on Edge network, so speed is SLOW and thus very choppy due to broadband speed, not CPU-related)
If you are running KWBR nicely now, do a Backup from CWM first, wipe cache/dalvik & system next - then flash the EU Rom and setup - to see whether you like it. And, if you do - follow the post's steps that I wrote up a while back and get A2SD running with the earlier verison of CWM for ext3 partition, restore/copy back all the files to the mSD card - and reboot/check for A2SD functionality, hopefully - it works without further tweaks - and I think you will like it.
If not, it's easy enough to get back into Recovery, wipe clean it first (very important to clear all traces) and RESTORE the KWBR image from the mSD, and reboot - and you can continue using it. Set aside 2 or 3 hours to do this slowly & right, and you will find the process educational & informative - and, as I always remind newbies - the rules are simple - Backup, Backup and Backup !!
Cheers & go have fun !
I'm still waiting for my SI number to come up, and I'm starting to get a little impatient. I'm considering going ahead and using flashtool, but if I go to that much trouble, why not just go ahead and root?
Here is the reason for my question: I rooted my x10mp to upgrade to 2.2 since there weren't going to be any more official updates. That gave me some capabilities (like apps2sd) that weren't available on 2.1.
So, what can I gain by rooting my 2011 xmp?

are your phone x10 mini pro or xperia mini pro?
xmp is the one that getting ics not x10mp :silly:
btw to answer your root question. nothing really.
i only root just to use v6supercharger, market enabler to install some apps that cant be installed "this item cannot be installed in your country" (because i live outside US), titanium backup, and link2sd for moving apps/data/cache to sd. thats about it.
My old phone is the x10 minipro. My current phone is the 2011 minipro. Edited my first post for clarity, thanks.
dave
probably not
of course, this depends what you want to do with your phone... imho, if you have not decided to root your device for other reasons then it is not worth to root it for getting ICS: If you use stock ROM + a small amount of other apps and feel happy about it you probably don"t need root. ICS would give you a little icing on that gingerbread
IMO, definitely YES!
Definitely, it's worth!
Just root, no other mods, to just install some useful apps and achieve control over which you bought: your connections (droidwall...), your CPU and battery (cputuner...), backup (titanium...), adblocking (adaway...), autostart (autorun manager...), or just VIEW how is your system made (root explorer...).
I played with all of that stuff on my x10mp, but I don't really play with this phone as much. I forgot about adblock, though. That's a good enough reason to root for me. Thanks!
dave
Well
Well
You will be able to do a lot of things
u can remove unwanted system apps (i use AntTek app manager)
u can modify system files
u can use apps that needs root (like root browser ,market enablers ,etc)
if you find yourself in need to do any of the above
then root
otherwise don't
it doesn't make a lot of difference
specially if you are on ICS
Got my XMP rooted and flashed to ICS. Took me a couple of hours to do it, but part of that time was spent figuring out my antivirus software on the computer. Ran a repair with PCC and lost root, so I had to do it over again, which took me about 45 minutes. Thought I'd try to run a repair on SUS, but I was afraid I'd wipe out root again, so I skipped that step.
Got some root-only apps, reinstalled most of my old apps, did some housecleaning. Everything looks good and it seems to run just fine. Now I just need to do the same for my girlfriend's XMP.
Just a couple of things: I lost my calendar info with the upgrade, though I tried to back up everything. Also, I'm wondering about skipping the repair with SUS or PCC.

Which version? I used v2.5 on already rooted Xperia Tablet S 4.0.3 release3 to jump all the way to release6b and lost all vendor apps in process.
I then test tried my titanium backups to restore the Walkman App and when I try to run the app it force closed walkman every time tried to run.
Then I went and did a factory restore and all vendor apps returned but lost anything and everything personal I ever did on the tablet, which I expected.....but root survived the reset so that was good.
And Walkman App is still broken and force closes every time I try to run it.....
So do you know what to do? Thanks for help......no replys on the dev forum.
OK Now FIXED!!!!
I installed from the vendor0 folder location and it works.
I think if anyone has missing apps after using Flasher tool, go to the vendor0 folder and install them from that location. If that doesn't work do a factory reset and dont worry because you dont lose root.
I think in my case I hosed things up by trying to restore using titanium backup....
Anyway, problem solved....thanks for all your help.
Hallo,
as a Lenovo A660 owner, I have downloaded and backed up new ROM via CMW + I have made some modification.
Warning: DO NOT DO ANYTHING, UNLESS YOU UNDERSTAND WHAT YOU ARE DOING
You can easily BRICK your phone, please understand that I keep no warranty on my work.
Note: I am not programer, or highly sophisticated geek. I am just playing with the stuff I have.
NOTE (JULY 2013) - I dont have A660 for more than 4 month. The guide is fully working, but I am unable to help you with a hints as I am unable to test them, please as other users instead me, sorry.
So what can be found here:
1) CMW backup of original Lenovo A660 ROM S025_121122 including all the Chinese rubbish
2) CMW backup of a moded ROM I made. I wanted to slim down it a bit so I:
- removed all the Chinese programs
- added a HOLO launcher instead a Lenovo one
- added support for Google stuff like gmail, playstore
- replaced Lenovo Calendar with a Google one
- removed some waste apps like video player, weather, Lenovo store, Lenovo security, some demo videos
- changed a boot animation
- added MoreLocale to extend a language support.
Overall, the ROM size was shrinked for about 200 Mb
3) flash_tool.zip with SP Flash Tool, flash_tool.zip, and Win7 driver
The FLASH process is a bit tricky, I am working to create a easier process, but I am still newbie.
Please note: If you have some Custom Recovery installed, this will overwrite it. The CMW I work with is temporary and working just to next reboot.
Backup your current ROM before you do anything!
Step by step:
1) download flash_tool.zip including SpFlashTool + Recovery + Driver
2) download zip with ROM you want and unpack it to root of your SD. Full path has to be kept, so correct location is /clockworkmod/backup/20..........
3) turn off your phone
4) run SPFlash Tool, load "Scatter-loading file" MT6577_scatter_emmc_LA50.0.019.01 from directory Recovery_CMW (located in flash_tool.zip)
5) make sure that only "Recovery" part is checked and hit download, confirm executing even through warning "download warning"
6) connect a phone wia cable (phone has to be off). First time you do this, you have to install a driver (also in located in flash_tool.ziip. You can do this either on notification manager, or in hw device manager in control panels.
7) if everything is OK a flashtool will upload CMW and process ends by window with green circle.
8) turn off the phone. turn it on while holding a volume up to start to CMW
9) while in CMW, do the wipe of the memory and cache.
10) choose "restore" in CMW and choose a directory on your card. The process might end with error log, but dont worry.
11) Reboot the phone and hope it will boot up.
After a bootup, the phone is in Chinese and startup guide will start. Skip the first step (low left button) and on next screen switch language to English. Then I reccomend to skip all the other steps and reboot a phone (until you do so, phone remains partialy in chinese). After a reboot, you can change your locale by MoreLocale. Anyway a change of the language will be only partial.
Please dont blame if anything is not working. Either there is some mistake in my guide, or you have done something wrong.
My next try will be a release with fully working rooted CMW. But as I wrote, I am not pro.
Hope this helps.
Anyone who is willing to improve my work is heartily welcomed.
CMW Recovery is from Cybermaus, credit goes to him.

2 small weak points :
CMW Recovery is erased and Rom is not rooted.
By the way, no big deal.
One more thing : with french silly accentuated file names ( for songs ), it displays some chinese letter. Any tip on that ?
Many thanks !
thanks to pudil
my lenovo a660 can get a google play and aplication google it works
now this ROM is root with bin4ry v17
and adb.exe i use from superoneclick lastest version
Chinese applications have I delete all, like a lesave, lenovo cloud, sogou, lenovo store
thanks a lot pudil
sorry my english is bad
guys - thank you for testing.
1) Permanent root and CMW will be a next step. As I wrote I am a newbie and I will do my best in upcoming days.
2) Chinese letters in Music play is a pain, but I have so far no idea where to change it. As my native Czech Language is having some special characters, I can see this rubbish too, but only in MP3 player. I have spend a lot of time with this, but I have not even a track where to start. I will see if I can do anything, but I dont take it as serial issue.
Please, if you can, do a bit promotion for this MOD, the more testers, the better intputs for my effort.

Hi, I just received my A660. Unfortunately, the display has a dead pixel, so I sent it back for repair. Anyway, it came with Etotalk ROM, with original Lenovo Calendar, so after repair, I will be ready for testing.
I am from Prague, so probably will be easier to share our experiences. I am totally newbie in Android world, but hope I will able to help you with testing.
Bluetooth pairing issue
Thanks a lot for your effort!
One more issue that I came accross - I'm unable to pair my bluetooth devices, specifically Sony Ericcsson handsfree is not even visible during initialization procedure. Can anybody confirm?

xkobi, I have tested bluetooth with two devices - Creative D200 speakers and handsfree in Citroen C4 Picasso and both working flawlessly. So unfortunatelly I have no idea where problem might be.
guys, sorry for not bringing you an updated version with a permanent CMW, but I have some rush time in my work. As I wrote I am not hardcore geek so the work has low priority, hope you understand.
brilliant
Clear and simple. I know almost nothing and managed to
, install your ROM which worns very well. Thanks
Thanks! Waiting on phone but I'm onto this.
Bad news guys, my A660 was stolen on friday. I am not yet sure wheter I get back to in, or whether I move to P770. Long baterry life seems to be a nice feature.

volodiaja, no problem, but anyway I have no more dev files than those in first post, please continue the work at your will.
Good news, due to the good job of the police, my A660 is back. Anyway I will most probably keep a newly purchased P770, as the battery live is simply awesome.
Great news

Totally surprised. Nice!!!
Yes, I agree that the battery is the weakest part of A660, but it is general problem for smartphones. I solved it with external battery pack for 20 Eur (6600 mAh, from Amazon.de).
