Hi guys,
I'm having an issue with my new touch pro 2 from verizon.
I purchased the act100 TV out cable:
http://store.wmexperts.com/htc-tv-out-cable-act100/11A75A5166A.htm
I plug it in as instrucated, the touch pro 2 asks me what type of signal i want (NTSC/PAL) then brings me to a screen where i can pick Presentations etc.
However the TV displays no images, i get sound but never a picture.
I have tried this on 2 different TV's and tried both NTSC and PAL and all i ever get is a blank screen with audio.
Am i missing something or is the device faulty?
thanks
Raptor

Hi Raptor,
I have exactly this problem, and I am quite distressed, because it worked only a few days ago. Did you ever get this issue resolved? I know you listed the same issue on another forum, but I couldn't tell how you did it from the post. How did it work?
Cheers,
Joel
Sad to say i never made this work sorry.
Me too, and google around doesn't help anyway,
If it's has resolved, pls post it in here or pm me.
Thanks
Ok, some year ago i tried to make the sound work through the speakers in my car.
I opened up a soundcable and modifyed it to fool the phone that it was in video out mode.
So here's how the cables should be connected. I can post my pics of how it looks and maby someone's able to figure something out from it
Actually, it would be really easy to fool the phone that it's in Video out mode, just bend the gnd wire to the tv-detector wire, and solder them together (inside the cable that goes into your phone).
The blue and the orange pin needs to be connected to each other inside the cable housing.
Edit: To clear things out this actually works on my phone and whenever i connect the cable it swaps over to video-out mode. No problems at all.
Edit2: Nevermid, after reading through your post i noticed that you've already got the phone thinking it's in video out mode, so that's probably not the problem.
Hey everyone, I've been having trouble connecting my Samsung Vibrant to my standard definition television, the cable I bought off Amazon was the Amzer 3.5 mm to rca video out cable, and no matter what I do, it doesn't seem to work. I've posted a quick video on youtube explaining my problem, and thanks for any help in advance:
-bobofosho123
I've only use the vid out once, when I first got the phone. I had to push the cable in very hard, there was the first initial click but to get video working I had to push again to get a second click. Also I don't recall the video out working on regular desktop/android screens, only videos from the Youtube app or the gallary app both images or vids. Note, Avatar will not play.
I very much doubt the cable is at fault. Do you have another TV you can test it on? Also you only have two RCA inputs on the front of the TV, is the audio mono? So you just have one vid in and one audio in? If that's the case then the yellow cable is your video in and either your white or red can be used for audio.
hope this helps.
either you dont have the cables plugged in all the way
or the cables broken
i have the same cable and it works flawlessly
So I just got the gtablet and flashed to vegan 5.1.1
Was checking out some apps and noticed a few tv apps that let me watch recent shows in HD.
Got me thinking, if I buy the dock and hook the hdmi to my tv I could use the tv app and watch tv shows that way as I dont have cable. ( I use hulu and torrents)
Can anyone tell me if the hdmi will also send the audio through to the tv or if only the video is carried?
Also if anyone has ran a tv app through a dock to a tv let me know how it worked for you.
Thanks
HDMI carries both Audio and Video. If you've plugged in a PS3, notice how you only use one cord, instead of 3 like the PS2
The Dock pipes both audio and video out through the HDMI. I was watching some 624x352 mkvs on a 60" plasma and they looked okay...so depending on tv size and pickiness level, you'd be fine with torrents. The biggest limiting factor for Hulu would be quality of the flash stream (I'm in Canada so can't help you there - anything we get up here on the broadcaster's websites is pretty low-res and would probably look pretty bad on a TV).
Here's a weird question.
I have an elaborate projector setup (Epson Powerlite Home Cinema 720) and I -do not- want the HDMI to kill the 3.5 headphone jack output when attached. Any way to do this programmatically or through setup somewhere?
@JudoJeff - which player did you use and which ROM are you using?

I actually use the HDMI for ONLY audio to my receiver. I'm running Vegan 5.1.1 with the dock.
I'm using Rockplayer (bought) and vegan 5.1.1. I also got it to work with the older tnt lite rims without doing anything other than rebooting in dock.
Does anyone know if the tv apps have any issues like not letting it be output through the hdmi?
Like netflix, if you try to run it out the DRM wont let it, you just get a not allowed screen or whatever you wanna call it
I think using it for anything outside of playing a game that you downloaded doesn't make a ton of sense esp if you've got a big HDTV.

I dont have cable, I only get broadband though my cable company and I save about 120 a month.
I just download shows through torrents and put them on a thumbdrive and play it through my PS3.
Sounds like alot of work but its not.
I just saw these tv/movie appas on my tablet and thought this may be another alternative to get something to watch
Hmmm.... interesting because I didn't get any audio when I plugged an hdmi cable from the tv to my gtab with the dock (I got the dock in the mail yesterday). When I plugged it in, the video was fabulous but I couldn't get any audio to play through the tv. I'm running Vegan-Tab Ginger Edition (7.0.0).
But then again this is the tv in my bedroom, I might try it on the living room telly. The hdmi cable I was using was one I use on my dvd player. Maybe I'll try a different hdmi cable.
I have two g-tablets (see signature) and two docks. I don't get sound from the HDMI cable from either of them.
The same TV gets sound via the HDMI cable from my MythTV DVR PC.

Many TV's don't properly support the HDMI spec, so some devices will work, some won't. I should have clarified that I plug mine into my Onkyo receiver and it works very well.
Just got the dock and will be testing it out soon.
Ill try plugging into receiver first see how that works
Well hooked up the gtab and dock to my receiver.
Tried some video files I put onto sd card and they all played perfect, good picture and sound.
Then I loaded up the tv and movie app and they worked pretty well. Not HD quality by any stretch of the imagination. But watchable.
Watched the wedding singer in its entirety.
For a guy like me who doesnt have cable this is great.

In my case, it was the tv. If I plug it in my living room tv, I hear the sound out of the tv fine. I should have thought to test that because I have the same issue with tv out on my samsung Vibrant phone. It behaves on some tvs better than others.

Don't mean to hijack, but just thought I would mention that if your PS3 is in your home network then you can just use PS3 Media Server to stream your torrents instead of having to use a flash drive.

I use an old piece of crap laptop to download stuff, incase I get virus or something.
I got my mhl addapter but it is not working correctly. I hook the addapter to the hdmi cable then hook the power using the cable and power supply that came with the phone and finally connect to the phone. I do hear a beep and see the phone charging so i know the power connection is good. Most of the time i dont get anything at all in the monitor, sometimes all i get is a flashing of the screen as if a signal is coming and going and in a handful of instances it had work but it would play video very chopy at both the hdtv and the phone screen, like a frame every 3 seconds. I try my larger hdtv and exibit the same behavior execpt that i never got it to work. I realize the addapter migth be defective but in the other hand i might be doing something wrong. The videos i tried both works fine in the phone by itself. One is off youtube and one is a movie saved in the sd card.
Thanks!

I have trouble getting mine to connect to my monitor. It takes me many tries but when I finally get it to work I don't have choppy video like you are talking about...everything runs smooth.
You have debugging off, correct? Other than that it may be your adapter as mine has yet to give me a problem on any TV
The debugging set to on was causijg the lag in the video. Thanks. After i got that out of the way i played with it more and realized the reason i dont get video has to do with the usb cable. I can play with it and if i put pressure in an upward direction it works. So i know i do have a defective addapter. I will try other usb cables but this is a good working cable and brand new. Another issue worth to mention is how horrible the video quality is. It looks like real redish, no sharp at all. It reminds me the old time when we only had over the air tv signal and you were getting a signal from a distant station. Is this normal? I wasnt expecting 1080 full hd signal but if this is the way it is supposed to work then maybe i dont need this addapter after all. Anyone care to coment on their video quality?
I tried at work on my pc monitor with a hdmi to dvi adapter. I had no problem getting the adapter to work continuously but video got choppy again even without debuging on... I will do some more testing later...
hate to bump this but if anyone using mhl can chime in and let me know how good/bad is their video quality on a 32 inch (or higher) hd tv I will appreciate it much. If what I saw in mine is the way it is supposed to look then I might as well save my money and watch whatever I am watching in the phone itself....
Thanks!
I'm having the same issues, too. Would like to know if anybody knows how to resolve this.

I hook mine up to my 55in LCD every once in a while and the videos play at almost the exact quality as what's on the note's screen. The only difference I've noticed is the picture on my TV isn't as bright as on the note when playing videos.
Mine is good from time to time on a 42" screen, but the sound cuts out sometimes, and occasionally static goes across the screen.

So I should see good quality... Tonight I tried my work monitor. I hooked a hdmi to dvi adapter to the monitor, hook the hdmi cable to it, then hook the cable to the mhl adapter, hook the power, then hook to the phone... It worked great, the audio was coming out of the phone which I was expecting to have to bluetooth to my pc to use it for audio as you loose your audio feed when going hdmi to dvi. Videos were looking great, no lag in audio, no skipping or anything. I played youtube videos off dolphin, stock browser and the youtube application with no problem. Played different videos just to make sure it was not the content. Then played some of the movies on my sd card. All great. The only issues I would have is at times I lost all video for several seconds (total back screen) and sometimes when I loose video I would get snow. I rearranged my monitor set up since I use dual monitors at work and wanted to have use the dvi connection on the secondary monitor instead of the first. Then I tried one more time to make sure it was all the same before heading and trying at home... It started failing the same way as at my home. Video will play a frame every 2 or 3 seconds, no audio and sometimes not video at all...
I am going to change this adapter, any of you that is having success care to share who did you bought yours from?
Thanks!
OK, no vodeo for me, checking why not.
Applications, settings, location and security, scrool down to find "Disable USB debugging Mode", make sure it is selected.

Figured it out prolly while u were typing. LOL
Got video and good sound, works with AnyNET+
Im happy for you. Where did you got yours from? I am expecting anoter adapter tomorrow from a different company and it is also supposed to work with anynet+. The seller that sold me this one just returned my money and told me I did not have to return it so I still have it. Pending if the other adapter does the same or not...
Got the new one today, it does work on both of the hdtvs at home with no problems. Anynet does not seems to work on the 20 some inches tv but It does work for my camcorder. At work it didnt work right until I turn off/on the phone, then it stopped working when I tried again after the phone went idle and I switched the monitor to the pc while I was working a trouble. Now it wont work at work even after a reboot. I get that one frame per every2 seconds problem. I am going from a hdmi cable to a dvi connector but it did worked fine before..
Althought the thread title is quite straight, I would like to give up some info (can be used as "valuable experience" for someone else...) regarding MHL interface, wich has really dissapointed me.
I have installed AOKP Jelly Bean ROM (wich I think is the BEST ROM ever, due to its speed, and customizability), and bought an original MHL cable from Samsung, obviously SGh-i777 friendly.
When I plugged the phone to the TV AND to the wall charger, I sat down very enthusiastic in front of my LED screen to see what happens...
But after 4 o 5 hours of staring at the "No signal" sign, I started to think that something was not right.
After a quick check on XDA, I learnt that AOKP nor CM9 are MHL active, so I nearly panicked.... I was time for a ROM change.
Anyway, I contacted one of the AOKP developers asking if was any update on that particular issue, and told me that He wasn't working actively on AOKP for SII anymore, only doing some updates (my cell phone got heart broken...) because the best ROM ever had an Achilles heel.
Now Im using a very nice ROM called Aberration, wich is Touchwiz based (and MHL compatible), with a smooth operation and almost no crashes (only thing I miss is the extreme customizability, but whatever...).
And now, regarding the title, when I plug on the MHL, the TV shows the phone screen (the phone DOES NOT turns to landscape mode) in portrait, wich is look pretty good. But when you try to: play games, stream TV from internet OR watch downloades movies, the quality is veeeeery poor, compared to the laptop HDMI output port (strangely, setting the output in the PC to 720p looks better than 1080p...)
The TV doesnt show how much resolution is getting in the HDMI port, so Im stuck there. Below, the questions:
1) Does YOUR MHL interfaces show a pixelated image on the TV? (Specially on movies...). Mine does, large sized pixels.
2) Can be possible that the phone looks better than the TV?? Im using a 1080p HDMI cable...
3) Is there any way to change MHL output resolution (in the phone) with an app or a custom ROm?
4) It is possible that someone tell me that his/her MHL looks 10 times better than mine and how can I do it??
Thanks A LOT, and I hope you dont have much trouble helping a noob with "Tarzanic" English (from Argentina...)
Kind Regards
I have watched a couple of movies on mine. The first movie was very pixilated. The second movie I watched was fine. I believe the pixilation to have been the quality of the movie file. The only other problem I have is that when I use Netflix it doesn't display on my TV in a 16x9 format. Rather I get two black bars on on the left one on the right of my wide screen while my phone displays in a wide screen.
I hate to post this as I might get flamed for not flashing my phone with a custom rom but I am running a stock SII on 4.0.3.
Thoughts

Rather than flamed, I would say thank you for being the only answer until now...
Besides, the fact that you are not running a custom ROM is a great reference for me (because if your quality is better than mine, so MHL works better on stock ROM...)
So, putting movies aside for a moment, your overall image quality (for example, gallery) looks in the TV as good as in the phone? Or you can see some differences?
Thk U and regards
It looks much the same as the phone. The phone probably looks a little bit better as the screen is smaller. I would say to try different source files. ie mkv vs xvid, or standard mp4 files to see if the pixilation is different for different formats as apposed to a rom problem before I went flashing different roms.
To answer your question though the screen on my TV doesn't pixilate when doing anything except when running a low quality file. Screen transisition when flipping from one screen to another is a little bit delayed, but looks just as good on the TV as on the phone. Pictures display well.
Thanks!!

Okey, thanks for the advice. I was testing on streaming content from the web, now I will see how it works on stored files.
Last thought, did you try it with games? I tested a couple of HD games and still looking the same: little pixelation on TV, none on screen (but now I agree with your opinion of smaller screen --> better qualiy).
Kind regards
Never tried it with any games. Pixilation in streaming content could be a network bottleneck. Definitely try locally stored files on the phone and see what you get.
I have an inexpensive MHL adapter I purchased from ebay for my Samsung Galaxy S2 SkyRocket. I found when I stream a movie from the nextflix app to the TV it's very pixelated but streaming the same movie from a laptop with HDMI out gives a much better picture.
Is this an issue with the MHL being inexpensive?

I don't believe it is your adapter I believe it is the app it's self. When using the Netflix app I get bad quality over my mhl, but if I stream a good quality mkv file the quality displayed on the tv is fine.
The mhl adapter is a digital adapter. 1s and 0s are 1s and 0s this is the same reason not to buy the 100 dollar hdmi cable the sales person at your local electronics store is trying to sell you go for the 3 dollar cable you found on ebay.
At least the guy did some searching and posted in an existing thread and didn't create another thread covering the same topic.
Let's keep in mind he has a skyrocket. Which in the end is a different phone. so when the next sky rocket owner asks a question related to this on Google he'll be led here. Which is NOT the skyrocket forum. And then while he's here he'll flash a ROM, brick his device, and make a new thread. Its a viscous cycle Lol.

I'm sure the Netflix app has an invisible setting to stream a certain quality depending on screen size. Or maybe all mobile devices have a certain resolution/bit rate, which is probably low enough to look like crap on a larger TV screen.
