Use google voice or gmail.

Google Voice is perfect. You can also do it from your email address. All the phone numbers have gateway email addresses that you can send a text through. [email protected]

+1 Google Voice. Otherwise with normal text service you can do it through Verizon's web site, but Google Voice is easiest.
wound up using google voice and it helped a lot thanks for the feed back

The only way I know to do this is to install a 3rd party app like Kik Messenger or WhatsApp Messenger. Only problem is that whoever you wish to send it to also has to have the app. Good news is both those apps are available for iPhone and Blackberry users.
Using Textplus. Free app to send messages to any #. The app will give you a temporary phone # to use. Yes use over Wifi or data
I can now text from my Touchpad, and the messages sync to anything else running Textie. I can respond to texts from my phone or Touchpad using Textie. Best thing is its completely free. Only requires your name and email(both used in outgoing messages.)

I'm loving tablet talk. Syncs using Bluetooth. Or it can use wifi. I love it.
I hate apps with their own UI. I want a app that will background sync my messages and pull them into the stock messaging app.

SyncSMS also, uses dropbox to sync your messages between phone and tablets.

Nothing like Google Voice. Sucks that you don't get a threaded view like other SMS apps. It sorts the messages by days. But wouldn't trade it for any other app. Nay sayers should give it a shot.

Is it possible to have texts sent to my phone's carrier number forwarded to my Google voice inbox like my voicemails. That way I have access to them on my tab.
I don't know anything about google voice, but I use an app called "Tablet Talk" it syncs txt messages via bluetooth and works great

someone please answer this with a free solution, or a GV related answer
Hey guys. So I have a WiFi only device and am without a phone for a while so I use this to text and call people. The only problem is that the only app that lets me text with wifi is Google voice, and I HATE the horrible UI and orginization. I have the stock SMS app and found the app GV integration. It worked until my device got CM10.1. Now I receive the text fine in my SMS app but it gives no notification so I don't know if I even got a text. I found this is a problem with 4.2.2 but it seems the dev has abandoned the app. I hate the textfree and textnow and Google voice+text app and I want to keep using my Google voice number, but I can't find an app that allows me to do that. Is there an app I can use or could someone take the GV integration app and work on it to fix notifications?

I dloaded google voice after cancelling sprint. Is it possible to get the sprint# off here and enter my google voice #? Dunno if possible but trying to use voice to make n receive calls and maybe text over my wifi.
Log on to you Google account from your web browser select Google voice. In voice on the browser there is a gear that represents settings and there you can disable you sprint integration
