We'll get it but I wouldn't expect it right away, as we will probably have to wait a few weeks at a minimum for permanent root and s-off. In fact, everyone should prepare themselves to be patient for that.

My updrade date is on feb. 10th so I pray this phone drops on v day

I am looking forward to the Thunderbolt and loading CM7 onto it ASAP

Coming from a Moto Droid1 I really hope to see CyanogenMod. I will miss everything about it.

Guys if there is one thing that I can almost 100% guarantee is that this phone is a htc. And it WILL, WOUTHOUT A SHADOW OF A DOUBT, get CM. Unless this just happens to be the first htc phone in the history of the world, that has a locked bootloader. But I doubt that. One of the only issues I forsee is with CM is that LTE will not work with it seeing as how they just now got WiMax support for the EVO and its not a new phone by any means.

i really hope to see miui on this thunderbolt!!! that would be excellent. cm is overrated

I preordered at BB yesterday, and I can't wait for this phone! I am running CM7 on my inc and have been since it was available, so I am more than willing to do any beta testing needed to bring CM7 to the TB

The only problem is if your lucky enough to live in a 4g area. Cm will not support 4g

What exactly is the reason CM7 can't do 4g? Also what happens if I am on 3g and go into a 4g zone? Will the phone crash? i would assume that if CM came to the Thunderbolt, it would have to be 4g compatible by definition so it shouldn't be a problem

Aosp is built from source so it does not include the 4g drivers
They are imbedded into the sense framework so it has to be reverse engineered like with the evo
Sent from my Incredible using XDA App

While it's true CM builds from source, we don't know for sure that the LTE drivers will be built into Sense in the same way WiMAX was. Absent other information we may want to assume so, but I think we'll have to wait and see.

This is good information to know. I've been running all the cm7 builds on my DI since they started. I told a friend of mine once there was root, cm7 be on my TB. guess we'll all finds out.

Accourding to a tweet that I got back from Cyanogen, Qualcom has released the userspace code for LTE support, so if HTC doesn't F it up there shouldn't be a problem.

GingerSense? And porting in general?

Im good with porting roms, so im not exactly asking anyone to do anything, just asking for some advice/help.
IF i were to port a Rom for the inspire or desire, with gingersense, miui, whatever, would the 4g work? Thats all i want to know. I can replace the icons that make it say 4g rather than 3g no problem but i need to know if porting would be easy while keeping the 4g radio working.
Any help would be appreciated
I bet it would be easy. The 4g capability is just another driver if I'm not mistaken. But we really won't know till someone tries it. Id love to see some ports though its nice to see you here trying to get involved. Thank you and I'm here if you need anything. Oh and id go on Twitter and ask @teamandirc about thunderbolt they know a lot more then most.

The only problem with GingerSense is that GB + the newer Sense will be available sometime in the next two months (or less), so we'll be seeing an official release with new features that a mere Sense 2.0 + AOSP GB combo cooked by an independent developer will lack.
I don't think we will see an update till June. HTC usually is a little slow. No harm is trying

Same here. Early next year, my wife's contract is up with Verizon and she'll be switching to Sprint. She's volunteered to take my Evo 3D and I plan on snagging either a Galaxy Nexus or whatever the new hotness is at the time. I've always wanted one of the Nexus variants so that's probably what I'll end up with.

We’ve been hard at work on CM9 since Google released Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) into the wild last month, and things are slowly starting to come together. Google did a great job with ICS and added some really awesome features which in some cases replace or deprecate functionality that we had in CM7, so we are reevaluating all of our customizations. A number of devices are already up and running with CM9, and the focus is currently on getting as many devices ready as we can. The first devices (besides the Nexus S, which you can already get from Koush’s section on ROM Manager) that we’ll have ready will mostly likely be devices based on OMAP4, MSM8660/7X30, and Exynos. We also have some Tegra2 tablets in the pipeline such as the Galaxy Tab 10.1 and Asus Transformer. Our goal is to provide continued support to all CM7 devices back to the QSD8250 series of devices such as the Nexus One. I don’t want to make any promises at this time, but that is the plan. And sorry Droid1 owners, we’re dropping support for you. Time to upgrade
There are a number of challenges that we are up against. Google has made some pretty major changes to the Android framework that break compatibility with older proprietary camera and graphics drivers in order to achieve some pretty insane performance, but I am confident that the team will be able to overcome these issues like we have in the past.
For those of you who like to build CM from source yourself, you probably know that the spin-up time when starting a CM7 build is absurdly long due to the high number of devices in our repository. Koush and Arcee have put together a solution to this problem that adds new devices on-demand to your local repository, saving on both bandwidth and the long startup time. Some other great enhancements are coming too, like a completely overhauled music app, a new file manager, and a new launcher based on stock 4.0.
If you have a Nexus S, you can check out the code and build for yourself today. More devices are on the way, and I’ll send out these status updates as we make more progress.

Kernel Source Useless?

I'm genuinely curious if this big kernel source drop is going to be beneficial to us or not. I've heard two sides to the story:
1. "HTC b trollin' man, they drop source and release a new kernel..."
2. Devs can use the old kernel and fix the issues that HTC fixed, along with the other issues AOSP ROMs were having like sound and MMS.
I have no idea what's going on, and I'm curious whether I should expect things to blow up here soon, or if this kernel source has been essentially useless. I'm generally unaware of how long it takes devs to pick apart the kernel code and utilize it. Any input from those with knowledge on this topic would be greatly appreciated.

Both are correct. It doesn't really help sense based Roms because sense kernels are going to be newer than source.
However, aosp roms can now be fully functional. Aosp is what many people on here care about and are waiting for.

It still might, but I think I'm still somewhat jaded by the og evo and the support it had. The 3D never really had much, and it's looking like the lte is gonna be around the same.

It's only been a little over a month since the phone first came out. Give more people time to transition and we should start to see more activity. It isn't that bad so far, but most development is based around Sense because no one wants to wrestle with AOSP. Once they get AOSP stuff finished though, we'll be golden.

Yeah, I'm sure that's true. In my head, I figured everyone would be working to get to that point as quick as possible once kernel source was released. Like a giant team project, haha. Instead, it appears that only a select few are tackling it. Even custom kernels seem to be a rare mention. Oh well, I'll continue to enjoy the Sense ROMs as much as I can until someone cracks the AOSP code.

We just need the support of the big guys. For some reason it feels like most of the big time devs haven't moved on to this phone yet, or went with Samsung instead. I know that Preludedrew is working on JB for our phone, I talked to him about it yesterday on Gtalk. Deck mentioned in IRC that he was working on it as well, I believe.
The kernel developers are hiding so far, probably because we don't have the big guys working for us yet. I'd love to see a Tiamat kernel, even if I'm personally not a fan of custom kernels.
Kernel.org is also down, so that's slowing things up for everyone.

So far my experience with HTC phones have been a very disappointing one. Coming from the OG Epic, all I've kept hearing was how awesome the development for the OG EVO was. So of course when the EVO 3d came out it was my phone of choice over the Epic Touch. That was disappointment number one. Then when the LTE came out, I've noticed all the OG EVO developers and owners was all excited about this phone, so i decided to give HTC another chance. So for I've been more disappointed then at any point. The lack of ROMS, the pitifully performance of sense 4 and HTC's new stance on locking bootloader and sneaky updates with new Hboots was the last straw. What phone will I get next? Im not sure, but it won't be a HTC.

The problem with getting Jelly Bean on our phone is that newer hardware is a lot more complicated.

I think the issue is the LTE though, the eris was only a 3G device and i think it was said that the way HTC hacked on LTE to the Rez makes it a lot more difficult.
I'm sure eventually it'll get figured out. I also thought someone said erishasnobattery was getting a rezound? or has one?

Porting vs building from source have advantages and disadvantages. If I understand correctly when your porting, everything is pretty much done and modifications to code need to be implemented to work correctly with our phone. Building from source takes longer cause you have to add your own source code to get it to work properly. I know it's not that cut and dry, but I believe that's pretty much the gist of it.

I think the issue is the LTE though, the eris was only a 3G device and i think it was said that the way HTC hacked on LTE to the Rez makes it a lot more difficult.
I'm sure eventually it'll get figured out. I also thought someone said erishasnobattery was getting a rezound? or has one?

Yes Chad said LTE was kinda hacked together on the Tbolt and the Rezound. He also said that HTC hacked it more with ICS.

Dude, I just checked out the droid eris forums to get an slimmed down Rom to load, and tazz has an alpha release for JB for it. If it can be done on that phone, I'm confident that we'll see it on the Rezound.

I think it's a package deal.
Either way, still very difficult.

Q) since the amaze 4g got jellybean...

Does this help us at all? The specs are almost identical except the screen resolution.
Even a sense jellybean port?
Edit: I made a mistake, but cm10 is officially supporting the amaze now. Still any help?
That's one that Chad or Mauling might have to answer.

The only thing that makes cm10 official support is the whole process of applying to CM. You have to do apply to CM and become a maintainer of the rom. We have that already it's just not considered 'official'
I think I may have misread something I saw on Google +. Sorry for the misinfo
With the Sprint EVO 4G LTE getting JB will this assist with the Rezound getting JB?

I don't think so, different processor.
Chad was only interested in the one s c2 getting jb, since it shares more hardware similarities with our phone. I can already taste the jelly beans now...
