Not sure if anyone else had this behaviour.
Rooted my Archos 101it last week using the Urukdroid 0.3 files. Since then, the screen comes on every couple of hours. The lockscreen is displayed for a couple of minutes, no other activity takes place, then goes to sleep again. The only other thing I've noticed is that when the screen comes on, the alarm icon is present in the notification bar. I don't have any alarms set, and haven't installed any alarm apps.
Just wondered if this is normal "post-rooting" behaviour, or if anyone knows why this is happening?
I have the same behavior.
I also don't know what is happening. I Suspect some internet activity, some sync ....
Are you using any of the custom kernels, or stock Android? Are you also getting the alarm clock symbol in the notification bar?
Haven't tried leaving it with wifi off, will try that tonight and see if it still happens.
I have saurons kernel.
I read in another forum that the Kernel of the 2011-01-12 is working without this.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=897877
I experienced the same without any custom kernel/ROM.
I'm pretty confident this issue arose in the 2.71 update and is caused by the Google frameworks apps. If i don't use the Market, Maps or Gmail, this does not happen.
I have made it a habit to close all running programs before shutting off, that seems to take care of it.

I am creating this new thread because I haven't seen anything similar for the SGS II.
I can't pinpoint the exact moment when this started (before I rooted the phone), but my screen started turning on and off on its own.
Note that it is only the screen turning on/off, not the phone.
Has anybody experienced the same problem?
Any suspicion on the applications you have installed that may lead to this issue, third-party IM running in the background maybe; Skype, eBuddy, etc.
lol root whould have nothing to do with random reboots. What tweaks youve done since rooting might be the issue or maybe a rouge app.
The "rooting" part was just in case anybody asked
Yes, I installed Skype, but the anomaly started quite a bit after. No tweaks, couple of programs that shouldn't affect anything. The thing is that it does pretty often for two hours and then stops
I will report later when I will have more time to observe the pattern.
Have you opened vlingo voice control app? My phone started flipping out after running that app once. It messed with my screen and gps.

Click to collapse
Well I don't have Vlingo, but the default program that comes with the phone (Voice talk, Voice command).....yes! That could be it. It did start around the time I was messing around with it (I still haven't tried the GPS).
Do you still have the problem or did you solve it?
I opened it to trying to find name of app, and all of a sudden my gps turned on and screen lite up.
All of a sudden today, when unlocking my phone, I've seen this message pop up on the home screen for like 2 seconds. I figured it was just a random fluke and powered down but then when I went to click on refreshing my weather widget which is always set to the same zip code, it happened again. This widget is set to manual refresh, I have to click it to get an updated forecast. Then it happened again a few minutes later after simply unlocking the screen like it was doing earlier.
I've had Network Location services for wifi and gps turned off for a good 3 weeks or so. I only activate those on an as-needed basis. I don't use any apps that acquire my location (weather, facebook, etc.) I have the bear minimum apps running in 'Running Services' and I'm running the configuration in my sig (UnNamed, Entropy's DD, ICScrewd Theme). Any ideas what's going on?
does it happen every time you refresh the weather widget?
if it does I would try a different widget, just to see whether it goes away.
I just had GMail do this to me this morning (when I tried to refresh - I have that set to manual). I turned on location services (wifi and GPS) and let it get my location, then turned them back off. That seemed to take care of it. Might be a cookie based kind of thing - I loaded a new ROM yesterday and hadn't let it get a lock yet.
I just remembered that I updated Google Maps yesterday via the Market. I think that's the culprit. I can't see any setting though which I can change to disable automatic updating. I've gotten this message now like 3 times this morning.
Ive temporarily turned on Location Services for wifi/GPS but I prefer them off as I get much better battery life with them disabled.

This seems to be happening to me more and more. Cannot pinpoint the culprit.
is this still an issue for anyone? It certainly is for me
Anyone else having this happen? If I reboot, as soon as my phone comes up the GPS is going and continues to go for like 7-10 minutes before finally going away.
No clue what's causing it but it's rather annoying.
I would guess it is normal for Google and other services on your phone to collect data on your location for things like weather and traffic and stuff like that right after a boot but 7-10 minutes is a rather long time. Is the gps signal locked during that time or flashing like it is trying to obtain a signal?
If you run your task manager you should be able to see what apps are running and that may give an indication of which is trying to get your location for so long.
Update: Just started happening again and this time the phone wasn't rebooted. I'm almost convinced it's an app. And no it doesn't fully lock on, but it tries to the entire time. I'll play around with it some more, but I have a feeling it's one of the many apps I installed today.
It's Beautiful Widgets causing the problem. Also sometimes the time isn't updated properly. Not sure if BW is having an issue with this phone, or ICS, or maybe just MY specific configuration.
Any other good Clock/weather widgets out there?
Hello all!
Since yesterday, when I updated the firmware of my phone, the GPS icon has been shown constantly in the notification bar. It did not use to happen before. I am afraid it might be draining more battery than needed but I don't want to turn off GPS completely as I wanted it to be "ready to use" whenever I need to use, for example, Google Maps.
Is there something I can do? How can I control which app's might be using GPS connection in every moment?
Thank you!
+1
Every once in a while I see the GPS icon light up for a couple of seconds without apparent reason. I have no auto geo locating widget or so running, which might be an obvious guess.
Edit: just noticed I had weather information enabled on the lock screen so that may be the cause.
Hi there,
i have a SIII and i'm having a strage situation with it.. although the screen is off (no wi-fi, no data, just idle) sometimes the screen turns on, without even touching it, and off again (after the seconds that it usually takes to turn the screen off when no one touches it). This can happen 10/15 times in a row with no specific interval between them (but usually just a few seconds). And then just stops for hours..
i have NFC turned off as i though maybe i had something that would send a signal..
when it turns on, if i check the phone, there aren't any notifications at all..
anyone has seen this situation in this phone??
thanks in advance
I had it ones. I figured it happened when live wallpaper was enabled. Wallpaper was from the market, not from original firmware. It never happened with stock wallpapers though.
So if you have live wallpaper, try disabling it and see if problem persists.
I call this an android virus. This mostly happens when you install an app (most probably a free app) and it just keeps on running in the background. It keeps on turning the screen, so monitor when the problem started and remove any recent installed app one by one.
I also had this situation. When i installed a custom rom, the problem just vanished.
thanks, i will try and give some feedback
having the same problem and still have no idea what is causing it.......
I'm completely stock aswel.this is very annoying when it happens
