You can do it on the phone with RootExplorer, or transfer it to your phone and do it with Winrar or 7zip.
Thx again it worked!

Thanks, worked using Root Explorer. Now I can use these default icons for Launcher Pro.

I'm not sure what you mean by transfering it to the phone. My GoLauncher is installed on the phone. I suppose you mean making it viewable when I go into USB mode on the phone? (I have a Nexus S, no SD card)
Is there a free alternative to RootExplorer?

you can download the bionix rom if you don't have it , unzip and pull the .apk from the system/app directory.
Tried that. Didn't work. I used astro and tried to install the swype apk from 1.8. I get installation unsuccessful.

Instead of installing it, try moving it to the system/app directory with something like Root Explorer

I'm trying to do this too, which part of the Bionix apk do I actually pull out and put into system/app? I'm using Axura right now but I love the Bionix Swype theme
I'm pretty new to this whole Android thing
edit: do I just replace the Swype apk I already have?

oh i didnt realize you dont want metamorph on your phone.....its tough to believe that some people can live without it hahaha
anyways, easiest way to install your swype is place the .apk in C:/AndroidSDK/tools on your PC, then access your device through adb (command prompt) and simply type this command:
adb push Swype.apk /system/app (then press enter)
then bang! your new Swype.apk was installed over the one you currently have

great thanks, I will try that, does push just basically overwrite? Can't I just manually do this in root explorer? Or does adb push actually do something in addition?

To the OP, if you are trying to get a specific theme only for Swype, then just use my metamorphs. The Bionix rom uses a Non voice input version of Swype if i remember correctly, and the theme is one of the old ones I found and had in my non v.i. thread. Currently, my metamorphs are for voice input only, but i promise, it's the simplest way to create, distribute, and apply these themes. Sure, it's easier to just replace an .apk with an update.zip, which would allow me to edit the libSwypeCore.so file to change the trail line color as well, but it is also a monumental undertaking in themeing software with REAL fragmentation issues. You thought Android was bad? BAH! I don't even know a rough estimate of the number of versions of Swype being utilized now... If I were to theme the .apk itself, then I would have to do a separate one for Vibrant, Epic, Fascinate, Captivate, GT-I9000, Evo, DX, DInc, etc, etc, until I FINALLY get ONE theme for ALL the versions of Swype. Metamorph eliminates the need for that. You can just install Metamorph, apply the theme, and then uninstall metamorph. You won't lose your theme

when you say theme is it only a swype theme that I'm applying? I don't want to change the theme of the whole rom just to change the swype skin
Just download this swype from the link below and use root explore and move it to /system/app reboot and your done! Its with voice.

I want to switch dialer apk from one rom to another should just use take files and place them in rom from my computer using win zip then re flash the rom? is there an easier way... sometimes it doesn't take...
Take the dialers...
The original one located in system/app
Rename it from dialer.apk to dialer.apk.bak
Then put the other dialer in, system/app
Reboot see if it works fine.
If it doesn't you'll get fcs.
If it works then it works.
If it doesn't...
Go back to system/app
Delete the dialer.apk you got from another rom.
And the original you had remove.bak from it and reboot..
I suggest you only switch apk from vibrant roms, using others like... Htc dialer probably won't work and sometimes you may have to re flash rom.
P.s.
Use root explorer to do the renaming moving etc. it's a paid app, worth it!
If you want a free, use astro file manager

I have the one with the call recording feature but it is useless. Does your phone really record phone calls ?
The only thing mine does is create empty audio files. so I had to replace them (phone & DialerAct.) with the ones from an earlier Bionix ROM.

Ok, found a way. Use Astro to browse the files in the "Litening Wallpaper" .apk file. You can than copy the wallpaper file you want onto your SD card. It should appear in your gallery, like every other picture.

where are all the app icons for things that i install and if they are in the apk how do i extract them and then re inject them after im done?
Copy the apk to your computer and use 7zip to open the apk and you can edit the icon with out even unzipping or rezipping! Not sure where the icon is in the apk, if I was at a computer I'd look.

Here are some apks that change the icons on your home screen and your app drawer.
Thanks to Pfaffinator for the icons.
1 go to system/ app and copy your entire app file then place it on an sd card for backup if you want to revert back to your original icons.
2 copy these new apks to system/ app. Your phone will ask if you want to replace your old apk with the new one...tap yes then profit.
3 I do not know how to make a zip file yet as I am still learning.
4 I will add more as I theme more icons.
5 DISLAIMER : I am not responsible for your phone if something goes wrong.

If you flash super Jelly, use the super Jelly updater to download a blank zip. You then use an archive manager like 7zip or winrar to place the apk's in the system/app folder. I think it has to be signed for JB, not sure how to do that tho.
Thanks for sharing tho. If these are someone else's work can you give them credit? If this is your work, nice job!
Edit: saw you said you were theming the icons. Sorry if I offended by suggesting this was another person's work

Pull the apks modified. Either adb pull system > w/e.apk. or do it via phone via a root powered file explore. Place the apks on your sdcard. Mount the device place on your computer. That download a theme or a mod zip. And archive into that make your changes etc flash to test then release as a theme. Message me about if you already haven't ill get to you as soon as I can.

Did it force close once or does it work correctly now? If it doesn't work correctly and you made a backup on your SD card of your original APks you can just pull the NFC apk only and put it back in system app.

Edit: nevermind after I rebooted it changed..you should put that you need to reboot in the instructions so less educated people like me know that..thanks for these they are sweet and go with my chrome theme!
