I hope this thread does not get me booted off however ... What is the point of this ROM? It has been months and months and many other excellent ROMs are on the board and have been updated continuously with the latest goodies. Da_G and NRG deliver excellent ROMs all the time and yet the REP has yet to release one iteration. I vaguely recall before the thread was locked and purged, that this ROM will still be released at 6.1 although with the current timeline, maybe it will ultimately be released with 7.0. Just a question from a curious reader.
What is the purpose of this ROM? Well maybe just the diversity. So that you dont have to choose between Da_G and NRG only. If you like one of these, then use them. Others who have stayed with the Elite team from RC1 will surely flash RC5 just to see whats new and enjoy the style in which the ROM is created.
I dont quite understand why that particular rom gets stickied anyway but who am I to question the staff's judgement =x

it is pretty annoying, and rather elitist. Why do they think their rom deserves top priority attention? Don't get me wrong, elite RC3 was my first venture into flashing. But from what i've seen, the roms are well out of date compared to any of the others which see frequent updates.
Discussed, re-discussed and re-re-re-re.
Elite's team provided us with the HSPL, it was part of the Touch Pro Elite Project. Without HSPL, no ROM flashing, nothing.
Also they're work got slowed down by some personal issues for two of the members.
I personally stopped using Elite's ROM at around RC3. I also don't see whats the big deal abut it being stickied.
Thread will get closed soon, hopes this answer some questions.
Elite RC1 was my first ROM, currently chrome is my favorite, But I always prefer to have multiple options, stickied or not, keep up the good work!
I do think it's odd that there are now four and presumably five 'Release Candidates', as if what I've already installed hasn't been released. I'm not sure what happens when the team pick one to 'release'? Similarly, it's odd that a thread was setup to release a release candidate 10 days ago, but nothing has materialised and the thread is locked. Why not setup up the thread when the ROM is ready to be downloaded??
To be honest i dont understand what is the problem you see guys. Its just a forum topic. Stored somewhere on a disk drive, taking few Kilobytes of storage. Once again, if you dont want to flash any of the RCs, dont do it. Yes, its stickied, maybe other ROMs should be stickied as well, that wont probably change as soon. So just ignore the threads, if you dont wait for RC5 or dislike the Project as whole.
Again???
How often will this discussion surface?
Does someone have the idea that this is a democratic propoganda site and that the multitude of users determine whats on the menu?
No,.. it's the guys that have the possibility to make a thread sticky who determine this.
They run the show , like it or not.
Of course, in the effect they ignore all the good work done by others!
I take it as it comes. Elite project is not bringing me what I like. I like and use other ROM's instead. No need to nag about it.
Let's stick to the fact that everyone who is contributing to this site,... is in fact contributing! And thats what it's all about!

I do not agree with that statement one bit. First of all, you have to earn the moderator status. This status is given to people, who help and contribute the most to the community. Secondly, hardspl for Touch Pro was developed by a member of the Elite team. It is only thanks to this SW that we can flash our devices with any ROM we wish (it doesn't have to be Elite ROM). So there is definatelly a democracy here and the people behind Elite ROM have a great deal to do with it. If what you state were true and the the guys running this forum would really want to "ignore all the good work done by others", they would have had to act exactly the opposite way.
Who cares? If you're not a cook, it shouldn't bother you. Since this is THE place to get a good ROM, it shouldn't matter. Scroll past it and forget it... It should be mentioned that if you go through any of the RC# threads, it's discussed there. Search and find the answer, but I believe it's been mentioned here already...
Thread not related to ROM development and is starting to turn into a flame war.
P.S. If you have a problem with the actions of moderators either take it up with them in Private Message, or speak to the site administrator. Please don't air your dirty laundry in public.
Let's keep the focus on what's important - hacking phones to get the best out of them, and most inportantly, having fun .

Hi,
Doesn't anyone cook for newer builds? (err, higher builds?)
I'm looking for a nice, clean, simple RAM friendly ROM for my HTC GENE (OLD).
I really like WM6.5.x versions, with the bottom taskbar, etc. However the once available (few) are kinda heavy with too many applications cooked in!
The basics: hibernate, showcase, audio booster+manager, etc are enough. I don't know how many people really need odd apps such as remote desktop, or a pdf reader (there are lighter readers available for free which can be installed). Since these ROMs are cooked for the PUBLIC, the whole of it should be comfortable!
Because as you all know, the GENE doesn't come with much built in ram. The user to begin with is limited to only some 60ish MB ram. So for any purpose at all, the more loaded the ROM is with fancy applications and excessive amounts of customization tools
I'm trying to learn how to cook myself, but i'm at the ultimate lowest level of knowledge !!!! So i'm just doing my reading for now. But seeing some of the works by the real masters here, i kinda feel like getting into it as well.
So if any of you master chefs have a little time on your hand, it'd be highly appreciated if you guys could come up with a ROM for the wm6.5.x versions, maybe builds 28xxx that is very light, yet has ONLY the essentials!

those builds contain things like UC web browser, bing, MS tag reader, etc etc. (which even though i'm a noob, i know aren't standard)...
i get around 15-16mb free ram on normal usage. ALL I WAS ASKING was that are there any out there that are very minimally packed with only the faves (audiomanager, showcase, etc...) for the higher builds...
if its too difficult to answer without having to express anger then just close the thread.... i'll just keep looking around, apparantly i haven't searched EVERY single thread in this forum
sorry for the waste of time
that was not anger my dear friend!
but as u can see u cud hav asked the same question in Question and answers thread by the way which is sticky so never goes out of first page
if u hav problem with certain rom ask respective chef
Nyways just keep in mind 1 thing that if every1 starts creating new thread for there questions Gene upgrading thread will look ugly!
hope u understand PEACE OUT

dont u find ankit360 rom.....they r lightest one.but i dont know whether he lroviding new build or not.just ask him....dude.....best of luck
Well Sid, the thing is, getting 16-18 MB of RAM on WM 6.5 is absolutely fine with Gene and this is the most you will get whether there are apps on a rom or not. RAM is only taken when a software on the rom installs a background service or runs an application at startup by making a shortcut of it to the \Windows\Startup folder. Just having a software on ROM has nothing to do with RAM, it reduces phone memory only. And there is a limit of how much the phone memory can be. Our phone has a hybrid ROM chip, part of which is NAND and part is NOR (types of flash memory). I dont know which one is which, one one of these is read only and that is where the flashing circuitry starts flashing rom data. If it grows outside the read only region then phone memory is takem for it and marked as read only. So you see, while ROM can grow into phone memory, the reverse is not true. So there is always a limit on how much "lite" the rom can be made.
SO i think if you think you are getting low ram, then use dotfred's to task manager to disable any service that you think is not needed and use a file manager like GSFinder+ to delete unnecessary shortcuts in \Windows\Startup folder. Please do the services part with care as that can many times cause the phone to not boot, if the service is a critical one. A full PIM backup and a full phone mem backup using SKTools or any other backup utility is a good idea before doing these things.
Cheers!
Thanks KAT and Saurabh
I checked his threads, from just a glance, i don't think there are any newer builds by ankit ( ?? )
Ok, basically its not like 16-18 mb is a problem. Question that clouds me is what optimizes the speed of the rom: running less apps at once, cooking with less apps (to incrs space) to begin with, ofcourse what build is being used, etc.
Thanks for the details KAT, a bunch of things i didnt know there
I've been using indresh's UC compatible ROM for a few days now....
Apart from the frequent "automatic reboots" (which i think occur due to PAGEPOOL mismatch???) it seems to work fine. NOW, this rom is giving me 25mb (45%) at normal IDLE usage and 12mb (76%) with youtube, audio manager, adv config, pictures n videos and IE mobile home (internet) RUNNING!!!
But then again, 28002 is said to be good for multitasking .....
BTW, is it true the reboots are because of pagepool?
Cheers!
-appreciate the help guys!

Everybody know brother that automatic reboot rom can't be stable one.......but i have said except that auto.reboot it is good.....
other than automatic reboots its stable indeed.
and i've mentioned this b4, but i get 24mb approximately (give or take..) sometime after starting, on boot i get 26..ish? mb.
auto start, is a problem.... but its not as bad. i've noticed it takes place AFTER you made the device "work" a little bit. it has autorestarted only ONCE during a call (been using this rom for a week or two now).
Im looking for a new ROM for my Hero without sense.
It has to be fast, and everything has to work.

Second, its called a Vanilla Rom, when it is just android

EzHero
AndroBin
aHero
And CyanogenMod for Hero
That might not be all of them

Check this post out, seems to detail many of the popular ROM's and their speediest features. (Broken down to Sense/Non Sense ROM's)
Superhero is also worth a look if you just want speed and compatibility, although it isn't pure vanilla aosp

Try helping yourself next time, this has been asked countless times before and usually gets a very similar answer (search), it is down to personal preference. Try them, try as many as you can. And it still worries my how many people fail to see that if you're going to ask a question the development section isn't the palce when there is a dedicated space for questions and answers...
villainrom 12 + launcher pro(set as default) + oc = power/stable/speed/daily.
is fully working... only got problem after what sh*t i done to it my call during BT to audio not working. no time to re-flash now due to daily usage...
is current the best rom right now i have tried(almost all rom in xda).
Go for VanillaEclair 4.0
Clean, fast, stable,... what else?
Link above in my signature.
And welcome in the vanilla on Hero world.
Moved as not Development.
I love XDA and I respect the mods, but I think the ban on "which is the best ROM" threads is horsesh**t.
Members should be allowed to ask silly questions, especially in general. And I, for one, don't think there is a problem with most "which rom is best" threads. I say "most" because I do agree that some contributors to those threads don't cite specific reasons as to why one rom is better than another. They just post stuff like "GINGERBLURB IS KING." I hate that, but for every one of those posts, there are two or three from people who cite specific reasons why they prefer a rom.
Yes, it'd be nice to try out every rom for myself, but I can't. Just like I can't taste every food out there. For the most part, I have to depend on word of mouth and reviews. That's reality.
But SCREW all of these reasons. The WORST part of this ban is something that has been happening little by little in rom development threads. More and more, members are becoming ruder and ruder to developers in the threads, asking "WHAT'S SO SPECIAL ABOUT YOUR ROM" and "WHAT DID YOU SPECIFICALLY CONTRIBUTE ASIDE FROM THESE TWEAKS". And developers are being hassled with replying to those posts, instead of developing. Yes, this has always happened, but it's gotten worse. And my guess is that it has to do with users not being able to ask the simple question of "Which rom is best" or "Why is this rom any good?"
These are questions that only other users can answer.
Unless the silly ban is lifted or there is the creation of a new forum titled "Extra Stupid General Discussion," this problem is going to worsen.
look this topic has arised again.... i am not offefnding... let me give a simple explanation... roms are not foods.... and at the moment there are nt so much varitety of rom(compared to foods) that you can not ttry them all .... you eat food daily... try out roms every weeks or so... you have your backed up data :cyclops:
now for the reason of the ban..
people develop.. people mod and release roms... we spent day and nights to give out somethin new... and somethin nice... the best we can do.... after all our hardwork... when some1 says that this/that rom sucks or is not good enough..... hw will the maker of the rom feel?
have you ever thought about that....?
and while releasing roms ... the makers.. give the detail what all is in the rom..... along with screen shots... that info is more then enough to understand what is in the rom.. !!!
i am not offending any1 or neither you... this is the reason behind it.... i was before also said not to explain all this.... but still iwould like to make this alot clear... so ppl understand...
i hope ppl dnt criticize anymore about any rom... :good: :fingers-crossed:

Since we cant stop each and every person all the time.. lets make one sticky thread including a poll in General Section. Atleast every new member can see and understand which rom is good for him and which is the most recommended Rom in the forum.
This way.. noobs wont make new threads asking about the best Roms.
This should be implemented in every forum.. even senior members are sometimes new to some Forum.. and wants to know which rom is the most popular there.
you still dont get it do you.. ? ... pls think about what has been said.... rather posting negative comments about some1's certain rom... :fingers-crossed:
I appreciate the developers time and effort however if I want a ROM that has TV out enabled and your ROM doesn't have that then I dont want to use your ROM. Its not a bad ROM your not a bad developer. It just doesn't fit my needs at the time.
Its not OK to write things like such and such ROM sucks. But saying one is the best shouldn't be discouraging. Esp if reasons are given. Ie lags theme chooser partition layout ram settings whatever it might be.
If you can back up your statement with facts I dont see how anyone can be offended
Sent from my thingy for stuff
Every ROM is different from a person to another... for example, I am more the type of oxygen user... I prefer simplicity... however, I use gingerDX (which no user will suggest because it isn't so popular, but really good and much more stable than "stable" official CM7)
So why ruin some work of a small developer by only using what everyone else uses? (This is an analogy with video games next)
If you ask someone what game you should play, they will say "diablo 3, of course"(which will make you pay the game + tons of other money because it is pay to win) but no one will tell you "path of exile" which is a small NZL company who did an awesome game...
Another analogy would be me playing WoW... I love archer, but in WoW I have a warlock... and since wow has no "archer/ranger/bowman style/blahblah with a bow" class, I wanted a warlock, cuz I love how warlock sounds and since then I only play summoner classes in all games (the kind with a minion following you)

I think that we should have dedicated threads where there is a discussion about ROMs and the pros/cons and stability for each one. Users should be able to have a dedicated place where it's nothing but discussion about why they like certain ROMs and why they don't.
I own an Optimus V and I am on a port of GTR, which I love. I didn't like BACKside, not because it was a bad ROM, but because I always had bad luck with md5 verification for it, and such.
I don't want developers to feel bad, but I do want users to be informed of the characteristics of each ROM in one, easy place.

Agree with the 2nd post too much of spamming and less chance for devs to improve themselves coz only popular ROMs will top the charts and everybody will use it.
So this way is better.Every ROM get a chance.
Plus I think u should spend sometime reading the ROM threads to get an idea about it.There are enough information about it in them.

The truth is that there is no such best ROM, because what others prefer might not be your choice, the idea for the sticky post is good, we can put our observations there and conclude the best ROM(s) in various categories like gaming, daily use, eye candy, bugfee (Stock ROMs) :silly: this will reduce newbies making useless threads in general section..
There is no best rom. We should try out the roms first and see what suits us. It also apply to food. And i always say no pain no gain.

Its wrong to insult someone's work. But to continue your own analogy. The teacher has a set criteria for grading your project that was provided to you. No one provides what is needed for a rom , you make it you decide what you want to put into it. If it doesn't meet the criteria that I need im not going to use your ROM and I dont think its wrong for me to write about my experience with it.

So please suggest a stable , faster and better battery ROM.

Even i want a ROM which consumes less battery, currently on Omega ROM 4.1.2, has average battery drain but lags a lot when i play Despicable me Minion Rush game, I know the game has pretty high end graphics but my friend can play this game without any lags in his Galaxy SII, if a galaxy SII can play this game without any lags why cant SIII, Please someone suggest me a ROM which has good graphics performance with less to moderate battery consumption. P.s I never turned on Power saving mode while playing the game so my phone is functioning with 4 cores al the time.
I am thinking of opting to Liquid smooth ROM ...which is very less in size around 120MB ..whats your suggestion guys.
With all due respect , Asking fellow users which rom they use and which they feel or suggest to others is unreasonable ?
Not many have the time to check multiple ROMs and come to a conclusion.
It takes atleast a week to settle with a new rom . Apart from this configuring each app , etc will take loads of time.
I tried three roms , all different ones , but cant able to find a good rom whcih has good battery , or faster ROM.
If you think , you can suggest , please do .
If mods feel this is against rule , please help me and fellow members who need some kind of pathway to get good ROM. Tried and tested ones.

I'm afraid so. So many people ask the same question, the rule is to stop the forum being drowned in these thread. There is no real answer anyway, other than go back to stock and disable all the bloat.
All that will happen now is that this thread will get locked by a mod.

look at the popularity of the rom's threads in the dev section and you will have a direction on which rom is most popular / most used.
battery, speed etc. depends on your usage, hence there is NO way we can tell you what is best for YOU.
Omega was popular , but i tried 4.2.2 version of its ROM and faced few issues.
I am ready to try new ROM , but there are multiple ROM`s now , so among them , i dont know which one to pick.
Of course its hard to say which is better , atleast some user feedback would be good.

read the respective rom's threads (start with the most popular once, here you can look for instance at how often updated, how many posts in total etc.), tons of user feedback and after that you can decide by yourself.
ok will try...
Yeah it kinda sucks that best rom threads are against the rules but since most roms are published in xda noone want to create controversy directly IN xda.
Anyways i will answer cause i dont really care and cause that's what people that have the same phone do: give each other suggestions about software.
So.
first off i will state it's best you do NOT use aosp roms, they tend to drain your battery much quicker than samsung ("sammy") based ones. and samsung based ones are more stable.
secondly i suggest you do not flash any 4.2.2 roms yet, and definitely not any 4.3 roms.
Thirdly i will suggest probably one of the most popular roms for s3 (also the one i think is the best. And the one which sure has a higher costumizability rate than any other) because i like it, because it consumes significatively less battery thank my stock rom, because it's cool with all it's customizations: foxhound.
Like i said best rom threads ARE against the rules but im just gonna give my opinion here, so i have to remind you to keep in mind i have only tried a limited amount of roms (7? maybe 10 i dunno...) and my opinions can be very limited do not swear by them.
Not that we got copyright acts out of the way i will tell you i think omega is a good rom but not great. I mean it does everything many other roms do and with not so great performance or battery drainage, but not bad either...lets say its average and very stable and leave it at that.
Also check kernels and cpu governors to tweak performance/battery options.
use apps like greenify to control apps that run in background and apps like 3g watchdog to check apps that download in background and apps like the es system utility thing (it like an addon app to the file browser) that has integrated app startup manager, thats useful too.
But having a fast and stable rom isn't just about choosing the rom or kernel, it's about spending time (a week should be enough) to check it all, get into its nooks and crannies and tweak it everywhere!
Its about checking your battery life, which apps consume battery?
And bam, you find out 10% is consumed by that led color controller app that you dont even use. So delete, disable, kill.
You gotta make the right choices, use the right apps to tweak your system, and uninstall all the useless ones.
Get INTO those settings!
Get INTO dev options and set screen drawing to gpu instead of cpu!
Set animations to 0.5secs instead of 1!
Get INTO that s**t!
This is how you take care of a problem...android is not for iphone users
Use the power your phone really has, the beating heart of unix!
use it!

As stated above we really don't want best rom threads.
